We wanted to stay in a central location within Lisbon so that it would be easy for us to reach public transportation and to explore this amazing area on foot to our hearts content. We wanted to stay in a central location within Lisbon so that it would be easy for us to reach public transportation and to explore this amazing area on foot to our hearts content. This hotel was a perfect choice! When we first pulled up outside, I had my doubts. However, once we were inside the hotel, we encountered a clean and attractive lobby. The desk staff were very friendly. We received a clean room with a large window that overlooked the street. Yes, this is an older property, but it exudes historic charm!
** CONS **
NOISE - Because our room looked out onto the street, it was a bit loud at times but it never became so loud that we could not sleep. We did not mind a bit of noise since the window allowed us to look out over the activity outside and to enjoy the sights.
BATHROOM â??There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Also, the shower curtain was not weighted on the bottom, so it billowed about and tried to wrap itself around you as you took your shower. The result of these two facts is that the bathroom got extremely wet during showers. The blow dryer was quite weak. Our personal blow dryer was too strong for the electrical system in the hotel, so we had to use theirs. Between the dampness in the room and the weak dryer, it took quite a while to dry hair!
STRONG SMELL - While there was a window in the bathroom, we could not leave it open because there was a restaurant right next door that emitted an extremely strong curry and cooking smell at all hours of the day through that particular side of the hotel. If we left the window open the odor became sickening, and it permeated everything in our room including our clothes and bedding. We just left it closed and battled the dampness instead.
** PROS **
FRONT DESK STAFF â?? These folks were extremely helpful! We could ask any question, at any time of the day, and get a quick and courteous answer. They all went out of their way to ensure that we had a great experience during our vacation. We asked for advice on â??out of the wayâ?? restaurants that cater to locals rather than tourists, information on better ways to utilize public transportation, and suggestions for comprehensive tours, and they did not disappoint us. I have since spoken to friends who have been to Lisbon, and they are amazed at how much we were able to do, see, and experience in the short time we were there. This was only possible because of the great guidance we received from the hotel staff. Thank you so much!
BREAKFAST BUFFET â?? We were very pleased with the breakfast buffet each morning. The gentlemen working in that area were quite friendly and accommodating of any request. The food and beverages were tasty, and there was a large variety of items from which to choose.
LOCATION â?? This hotel is next to so many amazing things to see and do, and if you wish to travel further there are queues to catch a Tuk Tuk Tour (3-wheeled cycle) ride, taxi, bus, tram, the metro, â??Hop On Hop Off Bus,â?? etc. Our favorite walking destinations were Castelo de São Jorge, and people watching in Rossio Square.
NEARBY â?? There are numerous restaurants and stores right next to this hotel. We liked the small store right next door, because we were able to purchase water, wine, snacks, etc., for our room and did not have to haul them very far.
** OVERALL **
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. What really makes this hotel special is the high quality of the staff running the place. We did not encounter a single person working at Hotel Lisboa Tejo who was not helpful and friendly! We would recommend this property to others who wish to explore Lisbon and beyond, with advice from a friendly, centrally located â??home base.â??
