We arrived at the Janelas Verdes at 10.00am expecting to be turned away until later that day. That was not the case! We were welcomed and offered complimentary breakfast whilst our room was being prepared. Throughout our 3 night stay the staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The room was clean and airy although the bed was a bit narrow and hard. The hotel had a wonderful feeling of being in somebody's private house with interesting artwork and comfortable sofas plus a ... Read more

I wish we had stayed longer. As Janelas Verdes staff went above and beyond! Just a lovely stay! Our daughter was spoiled, as we were. We loved the finishing touches of the hotel. Our bed was turned down, a bottle of port in the room, great toiletries, extremely clean and the breakfast was delicious! My daughter made a drawing for one of the ladies up front, and she made our daughter a thoughtful drawing in return. Top notch stay in a beautiful city.

We stayed there for 5 nights. We got a great 55+ senior rate and when we arrived we found they upgraded us to a suite with a fantastic water view and a sitting room. The ground floor is all open space with the breakfast area where they serve coffee and snacks all day, nice sitting areas and a walled garden. They have a library/terrace up on the 3rd floor with self-serve drinks and snacks (reasonable fees for the drinks). Great view and very nice sitting area. Breakfast was nice with a variety of... Cannot say enough positive things about this charming boutique hotel - lovely welcome at reception and all the help and advice we needed for getting around Lisbon. Very clean and tastefully furnished - fabulous breakfasts too. Not quite central but well served by transport links so easy to tour Lisbon and visit coastal towns of Cascais and Estoril. Good restaurants nearby too. Staff speak excellent English which was fortunate since Portugese is not an easy language to learn in the few days we ha... Read more

This is great hotel - gracious and helpful staff. On the first day got a wonderful map with lots of local detail filled in by the charming receptionist. You are not in the thick of things, great local restaurants for dinner at night and on a great bus route. It's very welcoming....iced water ready and waiting whenever you return, and a true delight is making a cup of tea or drink to enjoy in the Library after a weary day wondering.

The complimentary hot drinks and pastries where a nice touch. The honesty bar is a good idea in practice but the drinks are expensive as you... Read more

We have recently returned from a two-night weekend stay at the As Janelas Verdes Hotel. One of the nicest, small hotels we have stayed in. We received a warm welcome on our Friday night arrival and invited to treat the hotel as we would our home. As a small boutique hotel it is more like a town house with honesty bar on the ground floor and another in the third floor library - with balcony overlooking the river. Coffee is on tap, free of charge, as are biscuits and pastries. We had a clean, spac... Read more

Quietly modern behind a restored gem. The amenities made you fell special - loved the robe and slippers. The staff were so helpful since this was my first trip to Lisbon. The library is as wonderful as in their pictures. My room faced the street but there was no outside noise. Wish I could have brought the bed home with me. Hope to return.

From the front door it doesn't seem like much, and even the check in desk is understated but that's where it ends. The rest of the ground floor has 2 lovely sitting rooms. Someone helped us with our luggage to the top floor (yes, there is a small elevator). Our room was spacious, comfortable, and lovely with a decanter of port waiting. Also on the top floor is another sitting room-library with fireplace and a beautiful terrace overlooking the harbor - a beautiful place to begin or end an evening... Read more

Brilliant hotel - location little way from old city, but easy access, buses stopping outside hotel on regular basis. Best way to travel around the whole area, buy a travel ticket for the duration of your stay - this allows travel on buses, trams, boats. Saves time and footwear (cobbles can be a problem - take "sensible" shoes) The hotel seemed to have thought of everything for the comfort of their guests. Including the little touches some of the bigger chains ignore. All staff very pleasant a... Read more

We had a wonderful time at this special hotel. The staff were all very helpful and efficient, and seemed to genuinely care. The place was immaculate and there was a huge attention to detail - very luxuriously appointed. Breakfast was fantastic, and the library on the 3rd floor was also wonderful. Great location, too - not right in the middle of town, but that was fine because there were some bus lines right outside the door of the hotel that took us anywhere we needed to go in just a few stops. ... We arrived here after visiting Lisbon 31 years ago for our honeymoon. We were not disappointed. The hotel has a colonial charm about it. Sit on the 3rd floor library sipping a cognac after a tiring daily exploring the wonderful city. The hotel rooms were lovely we stayed Sat until Tuesday and returned for our last night in Lisbon. I would recommend this hotel, staff our friendly, professional and a special hello to the housekeeper.

A fabulous find and we will return to this hotel when next in Lisbon and have no hesitation in recommending to all our friends. Great staff, lovely, spacious bedroom and a fantastic breakfast. Bus stop just a few yards away from the front door that will take you to the centre of Lisbon (15 minutes or so). This was perfect for us, as we wanted to be away from all the hustle and bustle of a city centre and have a quiet haven to relax in. Why stay in a chain hotel when you can have the extra little... We spent ten days exploring in and around Lisbon and the As Janelas Verdes was our home base. The location in the Santos equals quiet evenings without the bass thump of techno from a nearby club. It's only a ten minute walk to the Mercado de la Ribera and the 713/714/728 buses stop right outside the hotel. No metro stops nearby, though. The staff is friendly and attentive. Any request we had (laundry, making dinner reservations, arranging a day tour) was handled with efficiency and courtesy. W... Read more

If you want to stay in a Hotel that is not run by corporate multi-national companies, this is the one. Quite simply a very homely hotel with wonderful staff. It's in an excellent location and there are some very nice restaurants nearby and and a fantastic art gallery 100 yards up the street.

We spent four nights with friends at this delightful hotel, rooms were furnished to a high standard as were the bathrooms with lovely Molton Brown smellies to soak away your aching bones after spending a full day exploring this old and historical city. The library was a very special place too to while a few hours over a glass or two of complimentary port and the little kitchenette along side the library to make your own tea/ coffee was ideal. We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in a standard room with breakfast and were really pleased with everything. It has beautiful decor and is very cosy. The staff are great and we had a very helpful introduction to Lisbon when we arrived. Breakfast was included and was really nice - small choice of hot food but the cold buffet was great and we treated ourselves to a glass of bubbly evening morning. The location is great - just 20min walk to main city centre.

This hotel is fantastic, located very close to the Museum of Art. I stayed here with my sister for three nights specifically to explore Lisbon. It was perfect, exceptionally clean and tidy, the room was very nicely located at the back of the hotel facing the river. The library and honesty bar, where guests can help themselves to a nightcap whilst having a peaceful hour before bed after a day of sight seeing, provides a wonderful opportunity to sit in lovely surroundings whilst planning the next ... Our time here was faultess ?? we slept well and got to see plenty of the city as well as the smaller places along the river and on the coast. This hotel is so well located with bus stops right outside plus train and tram, at the end of the street at Santos. Having teas / coffees / waters with biscuits and fruit available all the time is a real bonus and the welcome drink a pleasant surprise. Ticks all the usual boxes for space, facilities, quality, cleanliness but it was the ground floor living room and the third floor roof terrace, library and honesty bar that makes it special. I travelled with a friend who is known for being in bed by 10pm. We didn't arrive until after 11 and were still up at 1am. We unpacked and made our way to the library on the third floor. It was a lovely cosy room with a fully stocked bar and fridge from which you can serve yourself. We sat down on the roof t... Read more

Staff was very attentive from the moment we arrived. The hotel is exactly what you might expect from a hotel that is part of a "Heritage Hotel Group". Beautifully appointed common rooms, quiet and roomy bedrooms, and everything is absolutely clean. Breakfast should make anyone happy, and the honor bars are available 24hrs a day. Location is the next plus. It is close enough to great sites or good transportation and far enough from the heart of the congestion to truly feel relaxing. Word... Read more

This is a quite expensive hotel but you get value for what you pay. The city centre is easily accessible - by car or bus - but sufficiently distant to allow some peace and quiet. The rooms are lovely, well furnished and comfortable. The sitting rooms on the ground and third floors are delightful, and permanently full of drinks and snacks. On the third floor you can enjoy easy leather armchairs, a library, old pictures and a balcony terrace looking across the river. Staff could not be nicer, and ... Read more
