I stayed one week at the Orquidea because it was the most inexpensive option my charter company had to offer. Besides the price, the good thing about this 3 star hotel is the location. It is actually situated rather close to the Old Quarter, the bus station, the market, the cable car, the water front, etc. The room was ok in size, with air condition, great mattress and very clean bathroom. There is a small tv with many English spoken (crime) channels. Breakfast was adequate: English breakfast... Read more

The hotel was in the middle of putting new floors down instead of carpets which was a improvement. There was ants but not after the new floor.most of the staff were very helpful except one she needs a course of costumer relations on how to treat her guests.she give the impression that we were irratiants. The food was always cold at breakfast lunch and dinner was the same so if you paid for full board you just got the same both meals it is a shame because otherwise my stay was very good

I stayed here for 1 week in November and was not happy with it. The room needed a deep clean, carpet and walls were dirty. It was very small and had a broken chair which they replaced. The cooked breakfast was barely warm, even when I was first in the restaurant! The evening meal was a la carte with little choice and overpriced and not surprisingly very few diners!

If the carpets and the televisions in the rooms would be more recent probably i would rate a little better this hotel. About the room, the temperature was ok with a good AC, the mattress and pillow were KO, 1990´s TV with a lot of grain in the picture. The bathroom had a shower and not a bathtub. The breakfast is´nt that great but is more than satisfying. Great view form the restaurant in the 6th floor. Only a 10 minute walk to Funchal city center. Old and outdated, the carpets in the room a... Read more

We booked this hotel for a week this November and after looking it up, it looked very promissing, 3 stars and all. Unfortunately, this hotel has the most old-fashioned interior ever, the TV could have exploded any minute and after a couple of days, we found out we had ants in our room. One day, I left bag of candy, unopened, in the room; that same night it was full of these little creatures! We reported this to the reception, whose response was an insect spray and the question if we could spra... Read more

Noisy, smelly not renovated for years room, with view to the other building, old furniture, no fridge, no internet, very poor breakfast. There is a terrace on the roof but it is also noisy (air conditioner on the roof). The only good point is a location if you want to go to the city centre.

Clean,no frills hotel in a good location for all the sights. Room made daily and adequate continental breakfast. Short walk down to the seafront but quite a steep climb back up for those not very good on their feet. Suited us for somewhere to use as a base as we were out most days exploring.

The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring funchal. Parking is around the corner of the hotel and picks right outside the enterance. Reception were very serviceable, especially when i required directions for particular places. They knew where the nearest stores, supermarkets and buses were. Reception also speaks four languages including English. The lobby, study room and business centre has free wifi. This wifi may other reach the top floors but daily wifi can be purchased. Our room was sp... Read more

Hotel in the city center, cheap, has the basics you need to have a good night sleep, great view on the top floors, staff very kind and always ready to get what you need. A bit old, unfashionable carpet, flimsy breakfast.

Booked through Monarch a break that provided this hotel. Looked at reviews on Trip Advisor that were positive. Room was tired and smelly, balcony had a view of an office block. Could not get a cup of coffee after 9pm. Reception staff were useless. Shows that you cannot take notice of reviews on the internet.
