Stayed here for 21 nights early this year. Booked through a tour operator. On initial findings my room was noisy and I soon got a change to a quieter one. This had a well set out bathroom with quality fittings, lots of hot water and bright, low energy lighting. There were flannels, towels , shower gel and dermatologically-tested hand soap. The bedroom was painted in restful colours with a good size wardrobe, two bedside lamps and a standard lamp. There was a desk with a set of drawers which were so ... I stayed at the Hotel Orquidea for a week long holiday and was very pleased with my stay. I stayed on a B&B basis and I found the breakfasts to be very good. Rooms were basic but clean and it fulfilled all requirements. It would have been nice to have had a swimming pool and an open bar in the evenings as the view from the roof top bar was fantastic.... The hotel did miss a trick here, and it was unfortunate that they didn't have the staff available to open it. However, I would recommend this ho... Read more

Really enjoyed my stay here and sad to leave. Staff very helpful and competent. Aircon essential . Bedrooms very well furnished and en suite excellent.Food is simple but very tasty and always an unlimited buffet. Great view from the dining room over all Funchal . Overall I can thoroughly reccommend this hotel for quality ,value and location.

Like many other we stayed here for a week, and I would highly suggest if your after a good location this is it, and for front of hotel views we stayed in room 106. From the time we arrived, and meet all the staff during the week we stayed, we honestly could not fault this hotel, its a perfect 3* hotel. Being approx. 8-10 mins from the seafront area, and only 5 mins away from the main sq, what more do you want. The breakfast in the morning was the best we have had in any 3* everything from the... We were here over Easter 2016 so the weather was more unpredictable than usual in Madeira. Hotel was spotless until an inconsiderate walker didn't check their boots. Staff were always happy to help and friendly. The room was a good size and more than adequately equipped. It's lovely having the dining room on the top floor as the views from the centre of Funchal are fabulous. Also a nice touch to have a roof top terrace to use. We were on a b&b basis and were more than happy with the quality and ... Read more

I liked this hotel. The entrance lobby was very nice and room was spacious enough and clean. Breakfast was okay, too, and they even had gluten-free bread when I asked for it. The receptionists were all very nice and helped me find my way around the island. The only minus I can think of was that wifi was only available in the lobby downstairs (my room was in the 5th floor and the wifi didn't reach me). But in the lobby wifi worked without any problems.

We have just recently returned from a week's holiday in Madeira, where we stayed at the Hotel Orquidea. We were due to check in on 8 Aug but our flight was diverted to Porto Santo due to bad weather affecting Funchal airport. We eventually arrived at the hotel on the night of 9 Aug when Funchal was under thick smoke - mainly from the fire burning on the hills. To our huge surprise on arrival, is the fact that the hotel was not aware of some buildings that were burning just some 300 metres aw... Read more

Booked through Monarch a break that provided this hotel. Looked at reviews on Trip Advisor that were positive. Room was tired and smelly, balcony had a view of an office block. Could not get a cup of coffee after 9pm. Reception staff were useless. Shows that you cannot take notice of reviews on the internet.

Hotel in the city center, cheap, has the basics you need to have a good night sleep, great view on the top floors, staff very kind and always ready to get what you need. A bit old, unfashionable carpet, flimsy breakfast.

The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring funchal. Parking is around the corner of the hotel and picks right outside the enterance. Reception were very serviceable, especially when i required directions for particular places. They knew where the nearest stores, supermarkets and buses were. Reception also speaks four languages including English. The lobby, study room and business centre has free wifi. This wifi may other reach the top floors but daily wifi can be purchased. Our room was sp... Read more

Clean,no frills hotel in a good location for all the sights. Room made daily and adequate continental breakfast. Short walk down to the seafront but quite a steep climb back up for those not very good on their feet. Suited us for somewhere to use as a base as we were out most days exploring.
