Any hotel that welcomes you with a glass of fizz has something going for it, and the Carmo lives up to its promise. Lesley and I stayed at the Carmo for 16 nights (7 in 2015) and were given, as requested, a quiet room which just happened to have a superb view of the mountains. The room was allways made up perfectly each day and we even got given some sweeties on St Valentines day! We had decided to go for breakfast as part of the booking deal and were happy that we had. A very good buffet la... Read more

I've had a lot of not so great hotels in Europe. Hotel do Carmo was great. Simple, clean, great location with a great staff. Especially nice if you rent a car as you have a lot next door where you can park your car- not a simple thing in many European cities. Loved it.

We chose this 3 star hotel primarily because of its central location. It was our first time in Madeira, and we only had a short time there. The Hotel Do Carmo is an unassuming building in a side street in Funchal, but it is clean, comfortable and ideal as a base to explore from. We were greeted with a glass of bubbly and made to feel welcome by the English-speaking staff. Our room had pushed together single beds, which were extremely comfortable and plenty big enough for two larger than av... Read more

Great hotel for a basic stay, in a quiet place in town . Clean comfortable rooms and a great nights sleep. Has a roof top pool and a higher balcony for great views over Funchal. A short walk from the seafront and cable car station. Can recommend.

We didn't like the place we had booked so walked into Hotel do Carmo to see if they had room for us. Nadia at the desk was incredibly helpful and welcoming and everything was arranged with great efficiency. The hotel is a delight ... if you like the 1960s theme, which we did! The music, the photos, even the chairs and the little electric heater we borrowed (it was March) were all in keeping with that great decade. The room was clean, the breakfasts were hearty and the rooftop swimming pool was l... Read more

A very quiet, cozy and friendly hotel two steps from the center of Funchal. It's on a side street which can be crammed with cars really fast, so be on the lookout if you rent yours. There's nothing that can be said against it, given its three star rate. It shows that it's an older building which could use some renovation but don't let that stop you. I had a very quiet night, even if the windows don't completely seal the noise.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel which says a lot. Staff are so helpful and friendly nothing is too much trouble. Room was basic but light and airy bed was comfortable and fan was a godsend. We do not like air conditioning so this suited us. Location is very good as only a short walk to all amenities (shops, restaurants and bars). Only down side to Funchal is that there are quite a few homeless and beggars about.

This was the sixth time of staying at this centrally located hotel which is convenient for supermarkets, shopping, restaurants, buses, excursions and the port. However, what makes this hotel special for us is the staff. Over our visits they have become our friends who greet us with genuine hospitality and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is clean and comfortable with a rooftop pool. There are some lovely views towards Monte from the rear rooms. If you are looking for a great value holiday,... Read more

The staff are very friendly and helpful in suggesting activities such as day trips around Madeira. The breakfast is very diversified ,healthy and well presented. The hotel is very well situated with a ten minute walk to the Mercado dos Lavradores, and other places of interest. Did not use the pool facilities but enjoyed the lounge with the small bar for relaxing activities and socializing should you wish. Will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to future vacationers.
