We booked this hotel as a last minute short break, for which it was ideal. It is fairly small, including the sun terrace, however we always managed to get a couple of sun loungers and a sun umbrella. The sun terrace/pool area was sheltered and a real sun trap, with some of the comfiest loungers I've ever had. The pool area has a small bar and overlooks the beach. There is a gate for easy access to the beach and we found it much cheaper to wander along the beach to one of the many beach bars when... Read more

It is 2 years since we last visited the Holiday Inn and I am pleased to say that my bad comments from that visit no longer apply. The rooms have been renovated, our 4th floor executive room was very spacious and comfortable. The threadbare towels are now lovely fluffy ones, the old tatty sun beds have all been replaced and now have new comfy mattresses on them. The lovely new sun deck (opened during our stay) means there is no rushing to reserve beds early in a morning as there are now enough f... Read more

This hotel is in what appeared to be a quiet resort which may be busier later in the season. Unfortunately a lot of rooms appear not to have balconies and the ones on the lower floors at the back have no view except other parts of the building. Half board accommodation offered a good choice of food. Air con and Safe use were free and the room appeared to have been recently re-furbished and contained a small fridge.

We arrived after 10pm, Claudia checked us in very quickly and was very helpful in organising Internet for our stay, our sea view room had excellent views over the beach. The weather for the 5 days we were there (1st week in May) was mid 20's so spent every day on the beach enjoying the excellent weather. Breakfast was good with an excellent selection to choose from. We ate out every night as there is an excellent selection of local restaurants to choose from A' Tasca being the best. If you want... Read more

This hotel has a great location on the beach. It has a very nice pool area with plenty of comfortable sun loungers in various locations. There is a poolside bar from which you can also order food. There is direct access to the beach, the door access operated with your room card. The rooms are very comfortable and have undergone a programme of refurbishment over the last couple of years. A balcony with sea view is essential, and although the balcony is not particularly large it is adequate. The ... Read more

Big balconies and stunning views of the sea. Breakfast was good and the bacon and bread we're especially good, they always got a table for us ( we were 5) and there was plenty of choice. Comfortable surroundings and an exellent bar with a daily happy hour. Just what you need before a stroll along she promenade to one of the fine local restraints, selling fresh fish and succulent steaks. We stayed at the Holiday Inn for the last week in June. This is our third stay at this hotel, the first was back when it was The Garbe, and the second 2 years ago. The main reasons for returning was the location and both our previous stays were perfect in every way. On this occasion we found our room not to be of the clean standards as we had previously experienced and still had rubbish left on the floor under the desk from the previous guests (this stayed in the same place the whole week). We were very disappointed by this hotel. After reading previous reviews we did expect a better level of service. It is in an excellent location but I feel staff and management are complacent and don't seem to value your custom. Most staff looked miserable and rarely greeted you. The pool has plenty of loungers even in the busy holiday period. Also direct access to the beach. Perfect holiday inn. Would visit again.

I was most impressed by the location of this hotel, although I did not stay in it, I went in when I was in distress over the cactus needles and they were very helpful, provided me with a pincer to remove them and in general I was impressed with the friendliness of staff there.

We have just returned from the beautiful Algarve staying at this lovely hotel during our walking holiday. We really enjoyed everything. Our room, not huge but clean and comfortable overlooked the spectacular view of the sea. The staff were friendly and helpful especially Vicky and his staff in the Raj where we dined with our walking group. The restaurant's kitchen was actually closed for 2 weeks so we were unable to enjoy the full indian cuisine menu but if the chicken curry option on the evenin... Read more

A really welcoming hotel, as soon as you step through the front doors you can tell that you are going to have a great visit and a great holiday. We went for a sea view, room 406, quite a reasonable size, not cramped at all for a holiday hotel room, nice sized balcony where you can appreciate the fantastic views up and down the coast. We visited the holiday inn on a 1/2 board basis and found that all the meals were good, lots of different food options and choice. outside the pool and sunbathing ... Read more

I'm a solo traveller and was placed into a side double room. The room was so narrow I couldn't remove the chair under the vanity area as the beds were in the way. The double wardrobe turned out to be a wall one side and a chest of 3 drawers on the other, so nowhere to hang dresses. The bathroom was worse! Tiny, could only go in sideways and the tiny shower had a curtain! The hotel is in a great place... at the end of the prom and by the sea. However be aware dogs are allowed on the beach (ev... As IHG Platinum Ambassador members we have enjoyed first class service in many IHG hotels in many parts of the world. Unfortunately, this hotel does not appear to engage with the group programme. We did eventually receive the guaranteed upgrade which our club membership offers but only after demanding to speak with the manager. None of the other privileges promised by Priority Club were forthcoming. Management have contacted us since our stay and apologized for the lack of recognition of the cl... Read more

I first stayed at this hotel in 2001 when it was known as 'Hotel Garbe'. I loved it back then and it is even better now. The hotel is spotlessly clean. As this was an escorted holiday I dined with the rest of the group in the Raj Restaurant. My room was small but clean and comfortable. The reception staff were very helpful, as were the waiting staff, one of whom I recognised from my previous stay. The food was excellent and catered for my vegetarian taste. There is also a bar with good entertain... Read more

Just spent 6 nights at this hotel, it's in a perfect location with fantastic views across the beach. I would definitely recommend a sea view room. It's not a negative but it's worth mentioning that the hotel is very popular with older guests and a popular saga destination! We felt very young here and we are 50. It wouldn't stop a return visit though The town is small but has a lovely promenade and a good choice of cafes and restaurants.

The location of this hotel is good as its right on the beach. I was all inclusive and at best the food was average. The Indian restaurant was a good alternative as the food from lunch to dinner can be repedative. As a single traveler I found the rooms to be small and the view was of a wall. I moved to a downstairs room that had a spectacular view of the beach. The hotel staff are very helpful and the rooms are cleaned to a good standard. We stayed at the hotel from 9th Oct until 15th Oct 2016 on a bed and breakfast rate and loved every minute. We were in room 358 which has a beautiful sea view. There was a wide choice of items at breakfast. The hotel staff were very personable and answered any questions we had. Plenty of restaurants in the resort to suit all tastes. The Raj Indian restaurant located in the hotel was very good with a wide selection of dishes. We are both looking forward to a return visit to the hotel.

Came here for a 5day October break, never been to Algarve before and wasn't sure what to expect. After a good 2 1/2 hour flight from Birmingham and a 30 min taxi ride we arrived at the Holiday Inn Algarve. Location is honestly about as good as you can get, as close to the beach as can be and the beach itself is superb, massive long and wide and super clean, sea was a nice temperature for a swim, pretty good for time of year. Just returned from a week at this hotel and my wife and I had a very pleasant break. We stayed half board as we prefer not to be rushing back for lunches. Breakfasts and dinner were all very good and with adequate choices available. If a quiet vacation is required, then this is a good place to start, but probably not in the peak summer season. We stayed in the last week of October and very good it was too. I suspect that April to September is likely to be pretty manic which would not suit us.Sa... Read more

When you talk about Armação de Pêra, most people will mention, ??The Holiday Inn Algarve?? (or the Hotel Garbe as it was formerly known). It has a prime position at the western end of the up and coming fishing town and is situated right on the beach ?? which, incidentally, is one of the finest beaches in the region.
