We stopped at Rio Sagrado for two nights while touring the Sacred Valley on our way to Machu Picchu. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer. We were in room 4, the wi-fi worked great. Our only complaint is that the food servers appear to be new so they stand back in an alcove where they cannot see the diners. That results in very slow service at times. We were not in any particular hurry but we actually sat long enough to be uncomfortable in the chairs. We finally got up and asked the... Read more

Here's the deal. Going to Cuzco before you go to Machu Picchu is a problem! Cuzco is at 11,500 feet. But Machu Picchu is only at about 8,500. So if you go to Cuzco first, you are going to very high altitude, where you can get real altitude sickness, BEFORE you even get to Machu Picchu. The Sacred Valley is only about an hour from Cuzco airport, and is at 8,300 feet. So, land in Cuzco, go to the FABULOUS Belmond Rio Sagrado, spend a day or two getting used to the altitude while doing some lig... Read more

First off the Rio Sagrado is not cheap, however if you can afford it it is worth it. It is in a very quiet location a bit outside Urubamba centrally located in the Sacred Valley. It is right on the Urubamba River and you hear the soothing sound of the river all evening long. We chose Rio Sagrado because of its central location in The Sacred Valley. We did day trips from the hotel to sites in the Sacred Valley, some 1/2 day and some full day with a driver provided by the hotel. We spent 6 days ex... Read more

This hotel is perched above the river facing the mountains. The rooms all have breath-taking views from beds facing large patio doors and a private balcony. The bathrooms were simply amazing, with glass showers facing the mountains. Dinner was a delight for the senses with food so creatively presented it was almost a shame to begin to eat! Service was exceptional at both the hotel and the restaurant. There were a couple of baby alpacas wandering the grounds, adding to the bucolic setting.

Wonderful hotel. Perfect to rest and enjoy the nature. Beautiful surrounding, incredible garden with lots of different kinds of flowers. The restaurant is really good. The team is very helpful, kind and polite. The barman Jesus from El Huerto prepares a "must have" Pisco Sauer. And we had the pleasure to meet Cristian. We did a incredible trekking with him. He was very friendly. If you like outdoor sport this is the place.

The property is nestled among the mountains in a valley by the Urubamba River, and the views are spectacular. The grounds are quite extensive, so you can walk around after breakfast and see alpacas in a natural environment. There are a relatively small number of rooms, so you will see the same people at the pool, the spa and in the restaurant. (That can be good or bad, but we enjoyed speaking with the other guests). The rooms were very nice and comfortable and the bathrooms were truly luxuri... Read more

The Belmond Rio Sagrado was our 3rd hotel in Peru on a 2 week trip around the major sights of southern Peru and was a little piece of heaven. The approach along a dusty road into Urubamba town, bumping over the single railway track was uninspiring but once we got beyond the perimeter wall it was clear that we were in for a treat. The grounds are on a hillside leading down to the river and the rooms are like semi-detached maisonettes in groups of 4, each with a patio or balcony from which to enjo... Read more

This hotel was selected by our travel agent in the USA as part of a travel package, so I don't know rack rates for this Belmond hotel. It is a luxury, high-end hotel. Sadly, my wife and I didn't get to really enjoy this wonderful hotel in the Sacred Valley. We arrived when it was getting dark and left after breakfast. We decide we should have lingered another day here to relax and enjoy. There were lots of pretty flowers in bloom on the property, and several llamas. We rode in a golf cart down... Read more

This hotel is so fabulous. The three of us said was our favorite after 2 weeks in Peru and Brazil. Our room was comfortable and roomy for 3. Large bathroom. Private patio and lawn. So beautiful walking around the grounds. Beautiful pool. Walk to the river and sit on the lawn chairs. 3 Alpaca roam in the morning. Lovely restaurant and bar. Cesar gave us lessons on the Pisco Sour's. Staff willing to give golf cart rides to restaurant, past the pretty hanging geraniums. Loved it!

We enjoyed a two night stay here before going on to Machu Picchu. Excellent idea. It gave us time to relax & deal with the altitude. Staff were all helpful. Our room/villa (21) was very comfortable. Lunch on the terrace -listening to the river & watching the baby alpacas - was so peaceful & enjoyable. We also liked relaxing by the pool. Relaxation at it's absolute finest. We stayed at Rio Sagrado after traveling from Lima that morning for 3 days and 2 nights. The drive to the property was incredible. Once we arrive, the staff provided us with muna tea to help with the altitude adjustment (which was absolutely delicious), went over all of the details of our stay, asked us if we wanted reservations to the restaurant on-site (which we did) and happily sent us off to our stunning junior suite. We recently stayed at this hotel on a visit to Machu Picchu - a great location to acclimatize to altitude as it is considerably lower than Cusco. Very pleasant setting along the Rio Segrado with nicely landscaped grounds, excellent service, comfortable villa-style rooms and good food. We ate breakfast and afternoon snacks at the hotel's restaurant both of which were very good with attentive service. This property lives up to Belmond's standards in a very pleasant setting on the river.

This Belmond property is phenomenal. It is my favorite Belmond thus far. The location is great but very rural. Amenities and spa are top notch. Our room was superb with an incredible spa bathroom. The shower was designed to feel both in and outdoor. We had several good meals. The pool was small but nicely done.
