We arrived late in the evening after a 12 hour journey, the staff in front of the hotel just looked at us and did not offer to help us with our luggage or open the door. We checked in and got to our room, it had some stains on the carpet, the TV was hanging in an angle on the wall, there were no bathrobes and no floor towel for the bathroom but these were all minor things and as it was after midnight we just wanted to take a shower and go to bed. That's when we noticed that the bathroom had not ... Read more

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta on a friend's recommendation for the value. It is a great value and the rooms are nice and spacious. The valet parking is very easy and convenient. The staff is very helpful, although their restaurant recommendation close by was a travesty. The location leaves something to be desired if you want to walk to restaurants or bars close by. The pool and roof top pool bar are very average. For the money, it's good for an overnight in Panama City but there are also ... Read more

The casino is pretty standard for Panama City, a little on the smaller side, with machines and a few tables. The security was good, and the workers looked fairly happy. The atmosphere was nice, though not that crowded

We were with my family very comfortable, the breakfast are delicious especially on Sundays. The service is very good, sometimes a little slow but the waiters always they have smile on your face.Air conditioning in the restaurant at night is very cold but if you eat "Sancocho de pollo" you can forget this!

I read some of the reviews, one in particular by a couple complaining. I have stayed at this hotel several times, and never had any complains. If fact, when you check in, you are greeted with a complimentary fruit drink. I just hope that the casino opens soon. I will be back.

My boyfriend and I spent two nights in the Royal Sonesta Hotel & Casino. We were disappointed that the casino was under construction. The hotel rooms were large and clean; however, getting to the room was a chore. At least one of the hotel elevators was not working every day.

Where do you start. Rooms spacious, beds very comfortable. Bathrooms huge and wonderful. Great gym, sauna & Jacuzzi. Breakfast was perfect and Gabriel is the very best ! Front desk incredible people. It's really home away from home. Great value for the price.

Good location, great rooms with very comfortable beds, great view, great breakfast, nice staff. Pool on the roof! Only bad thing is that some areas of the hotel are not really nice (pool area, casino) they could do more but they just leave it as it is.. That's unfortunate because all the rest is great!

Fell far short of expectations. Rooms are nice but maid service was inconsistent, with towels and amenities fluxtuating in quantity from day to day. Air Conditioning in rooms failed and was out for over two days!!! Tropic heat was suffocating as windows did not open and temperture in rooms soared over 80 degrees F at night! Hotel staff offered little in way of sympathy or redress and was dishonest with updates. Roof pool is unimpressive, lacks sufficient towels and has Spartan ambiance. Sa... Read more

Room was comfortable. Nice view, big comfy bed. Slept very well here. However, service from staff was horrendous. front desk and restaurant staff were very rude and not helpful. Breakfast was terrible. The first day there was an omelette bar and the next three mornings not. We are staying in Panama City for another 3 nights and have decided to change hotels.

Nice hotel with big rooms and great views from the upper floors and restaurant on the top floor. When I was there the casino was not in operation. The pool on the roof is very small, but the gym is decent with everything you would expect. Breakfast is good and the extended opening times are useful if you want to make an early start or have a long lie in. The hotel is very near to the Metro and there are plenty of restaurants in the area. There is also a large supermarket nearby. The hotel also h... Read more

This hotel is beautiful. But that is the best thing about it. We walked into the lobby and were amazed by the splendor including 9 Chihuly chandeliers. The desk staff was friendly. Unfortunately, that's when things got difficult. Very few of the elevators worked and the hotel was packed. As a result, we ended up eating in the room instead of going out for dinner because we couldn't tolerate the wait for the elevator. The quality of the food at the breakfast buffet was fine. But the staff... Read more

We checked in to a very large, very dark, dirty, warm room. The carpeting was stained all over, it felt as though the AC was broken, there was insufficient lighting and the bathroom appeared to still be undergoing renovation. I went back to the front desk and asked if this was a "normal" room. They said they would have someone check and if we weren't satisfied they would show us a different room. The maintenance guys came up and said they'd put in another lamp (that wasn't going to resolve the i... Read more

Check in was pleasant; however our suite wasn't available due to maintenance issues upon arrival. Nice hotel that doesn't pay attention to detail. Rooms are spacious, but you have to call for towels and tissue. Spa is nice, but the Jacuzzi was dirty. Restaurant and bar are nice, but it may take twenty minutes to get to either one because only one elevator bank is working. Garbage receptacles in lobby areas not cleared periodically. Check the mini bar and make sure what they say is there re... Read more

We stayed in a business suite 2009, which was roomy and spacious. Hotel amenities include a Jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room, however, the Jacuzzi was dirty, the steam room wasn't working, and the showers outside the sauna-shower heads sprayed water everywhere. The little thing create the difference between a mediocre and great experience. Elevators are slow; garbage isn't removed frequently; have to monitor the mini bar to ensure no unwanted charges; had to call the front desk for toilet tissu... Read more

I had an overnight stay and if it wasnt for the awesome service from the staff I would have left. The hotel.is in ruins. The lobby smells like mold. The casino is shut down due to flooding and it smells awful. The rooms are falling apart. This is not The Royal Sonesta I know in other places.

We chose the hotel, because we wanted to try something new and in middle of the city. We booked 3 rooms for the weekend. The hotel is really nice, clean, and quiet. At the checked in the agent was polite and smiling, was a really fast check in, we requested room close to each other but were not rooms available in the same floor but was ok for us, no issues. The room was really clean and big - we had a Sonesta King room. We suggest just 2 things: more ilumination (ex. in the entrance of the room,... Read more

Very nice hotel. Room's were cleaned to a high standard daily and were spacious and light. The breakfast was always good and a wide selection of fruits, continental options and meats. The rooftop pool was a little small but was kept clean and was a nice temperature. My only real criticism of this hotel was that the lift service was inafficient, at times I was waiting for a lift for up to 5 minutes. Staff are friendly enough. I would stay here again if I returned to Panama.

The people at Royal Sonesta are not receiving per diem what they expected, so they cut maintenance. As a result, the bathroom made horrible noises, the air conditioning ditto, and even the soap dishes were askew. Once you passed the first floor of parking, it was dark and full of garbage. The food was mediocre except for the croissants, which they served in a warm dish. I will never repeat this experience.

So I have now stayed at this hotel several times over the last year or two and while the service from their staff remains top-notch, the hotel has really rapidly gone downhill in terms of quality of the hotel itself. I found many times the lobby air condition either wasn't on or wasn't functioning that well. And the week I stayed here, it really wasn't all that hot out, especially for Panama. The elevators have remained a disaster since the opening of this hotel! Unfortunately, this just s... Read more

Central location just off Via España in a safe area of PC that has a lot of restaurants nearby. It is also a block from a Rey supermarket, banks and 2 blocks from the metro, which is great to get about. Staff at reception were helpful and did speak some English, some better than others. Lobby area is very pleasant with coffee and chairs to sit back and relax. There are 2 elevator banks; 1 in the lobby and the other in the casino area (which isn't open currently and very empty looking). Of the ... Read more

The rooms were nice and clean. The bathroom plumbing/drainage was a little substandard but maintenance was able to fix the problems as they occurred. The elevators were unreliable and often many were shut down. This made it difficult as we were on the 18th floor. You had to plan way ahead in order to ensure you could get an elevator and get where you had to be on time. - this elevator point is what prevents me from giving a "Very Good" rating.
