I bought two nights thru ofertasimple.com.We are definetely not coming back again. Rooms have issues with air conditioner, it gets really hot during the day, and its impossible to sleep at night,we called to the reception to ask for help they said they would send someone, nobody came. Then they offered to change our room but reading other visitors reviews we realized all rooms have the same issue. Even common areas like the restaurant and lobby areas have a/c issues ,we noticed it since we did a... Read more

Having booked a Kayaking trip through the excursion desk on our cruise ship docked in Panama, we soon ended up here in the Melia hotel. First impression's are most important I think. Upon arrival the lobby and bar was not only empty with people but also furniture, no electricity in 10 sockets we tried. General areas looked in disrepair and showed lack of funding in the hotel. The hotel was located in a rural area, but you wouldn't dare leave the resort, abandoned look. However the kayaking yo... Read more

This hotel was in the former American enclave in the Canal Zone and is on the shore of Gatun Lake. The hardwood floors were authentic although a bit squeaky, the room ceilings very high, and there were numerous original paintings, statues, and mosaics. The restaurant was very good, with a great variety of food at every meal, all well prepared. The swimming pool was gorgeous and the grounds well kept. We saw numerous birds and an agouti just in front of the entrance and a toucan eating dates in a... Read more

My trip started out at the airport in Panama City, the prearranged shuttle was not there to pick us up. We got that worked out after 2 hours. Got to the resort and were hungry and tired. Room service took over 2 hours to get. Room cleanliness was not great, it looked clean then when you looked deeper you realized that it was not. The property its self is beautiful. We witnessed many animals on property, howler monkeys, a sloth, agutis, and coatimundis. Birds were plentiful also. My bigge... Read more

I loved the setting of the hotel, the location is beautiful especially in a thunderstorm. The staff were extremely friendly and tried their best to provide me with information about the area. However, the hotel is way off the beaten track and there is only one restaurant which serves buffet style lunch and dinner - screwed if you book full board. Colon is dodgy at best, so going anywhere for dinner can be offputting-make sure you have a car. One thing the hotel was lacking was the commitment to o... Read more

This is a beautiful historical resort right off of Gutan Lake. It has excellent service, food, and accommodations. We had a quite room on the top floor with an excellent view. The pools are exceptional. There is a Eco boat tour on the lake where we viewed monkeys, lizards, birds, and a sloth. We also enjoyed kayaking on the lake. We got personal attention from the staff, making sure that all our needs were taken care of including transportation arrangements by a third party. The weather wa... Read more

Stayed at this hotel for two nights. It's location is handcap accessible, clean rooms, very relaxing atmosphere, hotel's restaurant is great good food, their buffet is yummy. Hotel has 2 pools, well maintained, even though it rain a lot. The hotel staff is very helpful and courteous. If visiting the Panama Canal and Colon Free Zone I would stay here again.

Pros: Swimming pool is open 24hrs, was big, clean and very nice. The rooms are nice and clean. The wifi is free and fast. The housekeeping did a really good job cleaning the room everyday. Cons: Front desk guess service did not provided information unless we asked. Their answer were short and did not expend. I was there couple of times asking about something after finding out by myself. They even had bicycles for lending and did not even know that until the last day. I asked for a map and they... We stay got to Panama on July 9 and took a transfer from Retransfer with Miguel. He was amazing and the service was excellent. He went above and beyond with Customer Service. We took the transfer to the Riu Playa Blanca. It was horrible there. They didn't have my room available so they wanted me to pay an extra $85/day for an upgraded room. Basically I was told if I wanted to sleep or have some where to lay our head we had to pay. Then we were suppose to get $900/resort credit. Ha if that is wha... Read more

My husband and I are share owners of the Sol Melia brand properties. This visit to Panama was fantastic except for the food and beverages at our hotel. We were there for 7 days and 6 nights. We decided to upgrade our stay to include all inclusive food and beverages. What a mistake. Day after day, after day, we dined on repurposed food!! Whatever we saw on the buffet for breakfast, would somehow show up at lunch! Then whatever meat was served at lunch would be repurposed for dinner!! Add... Read more

Our reservations were a mess after booking on bookingcom. I used booking.com after a friend traveling in our group suggested it. He thought he had booked 2 nights, all inclusive, 2 people for $149. On Expedia the same price was 2 people, 2 nights, breakfast included only. Always looking for a deal I took his suggestion. The first page on booking.com is a form you fill in. They ask the number of people and how many nights. We made our reservation and $149. Was charged to my credit card. When we... Read more

So we stayed at this hotel based on the recommendation of niece since the location was pretty close to our family members. The hotel itself is very nice and clean and has ample facilities, nice pool, cool little bar, good size room. Our problem was with the service, most of the staff seemed uninterested in assisting (which is the opposite of hospitality management). Patricia, the cleaning lady was wonderful, she was very attentive to our needs and made sure we were always taken care of. The mana... Read more

The tittle says it all. Not even sure how to start. Among the bad service the bell bottom decided it will be a good idea to just use a master key to enter my room while i was still in. Not even knocking on the door first. I left for work in the morning and told the front desk that i will stay and extra night. Came back after a long day of work around 6pm only to find that they lock me out of my room cause the person in the morning forgot to notify and the block my keys. At night, the hotel ba... Read more

This is an old hotel well past its best before date - faded glory - about a fifteen minute drive from Colon. Having said that it is in reasonably good repair - although some repairs have the touch of the amateur. One of the two elevators was not working - no sign of it being repaired. My premium room was large with high ceilings - a comfortable bed and a useless sitting room - small with no lights. The grounds are attractive with three pools, tropical trees, flowers and a large lake. The hotel... Read more

Really enjoying this resort. Ok, it is not the modern, city hotel but that was not what we were looking for when coming to a place in the middle of nowhere, a huge nice park/reserve (?) on a lake, and wth nearly no pueblos around. We give a 5 to service, to staff ! In all departments they have been so helpful, so attentive ! Check in with Karen, being shown around and helped at the restaurant by Tere, the bartenders, the room service, the cleaning staff, maintenance! Believe me all of them have ... Read more

This place has nice rooms but whatever cleaning products are used are extremely strong, making for a rather unpleasant olfactory experience! Other than that it has a nice dining room with good food (although the dining room servers were pretty serious and not very friendly). The front desk staff were more pleasant. The main appeal is the pool/deck area which is really outstanding.

It is well worth it to stay a night in this lovely old property which has a very nice atmosphere. It's nice to wander through the hotel, focusing on the architectural details. We had three buffet meals at the hotel, all of which were very good. The rooms are large and comfortably furnished. A drawback of the hotel is that it is not near to any mini-markets or restaurants. The grounds of the hotel are a magnet for birds.
