After driving thru downtown Colon (by error) we finally reversed direction and followed the signs. This is a converted school/HQ/and hospital building which was the HQ of the US Army Southern Command from 1914 thru 1999 when the US turned over the Canal Zone to the Panama people. Its on a section of Lake Gatun in a beautiful area. Nice pools , etc. However, across the road is the ruins of several buildings of the US Army barracks. The hotel is in the old US Army compound. No coffee pots in... Read more

Chose Melia Panama Canal because of location in order to be closer to nature. The room and room service are very good. The buffet style restaurant is good. The staff are more then willing to be helpful if you need something.

My wife remembers coming to this hotel several years ago when she was in high school. She said it was way better before. The service is not as good as it used to be. The programs and activities the hotel once had are no longer available. The food is not as good as it used to be.

Starting with the check in, the person at the desk was extremely rude. The hotel had supposedly lost our (confirmed) reservation, and we were kept waiting for more than an hour while the "people from reservations" looked it up. Once we got into the rooms, we were dismayed to find no water bottles, the air conditioning was not working and burnt out light bulbs. We eventually had to change rooms because the people from maintenance could not fix the air conditioning, while bearing the nastiness of ... Read more

I visited Meliá Panama Canal from 11/5/16-11/7/16 and again from 11/11/16-11/13/16. Let me start by saying that I have travel to many hotels that offer all inclusive option all over the Caribbean and this experience was by far the worst I have ever experienced. First of all all the all inclusive at this Meliá hotel was garbage, their all inclusive is not 24hr does not include room service, no mini bar, no snacks, no drinks at the pool. All they offer was breakfast which was mediocre, lunch di... Read more

This is a renovated military barracks that was well done. Very large with a couple of large pools. However, the wifi did not work in the room. The staff seemed disinterested and unresponsive. Had to leave after only one night. Disappointing.

I am giving this hotel five stars for the personal service provided by all of the staff, the comfort of the rooms, the architectural elegance, the variety and quality of the food provided in a remote jungle location. Interacting with the staff made us feel comfortably at home. The rooms are ample with high ceilings and comfortable beds. The swimming pools are large with refreshing, fresh water. While aged, the hotel has a stately Spanish Colonial decoration. The restaurant provides an ample v... Read more

I booked a night recently for December 7 2016 and the operator booked the room for November 7 2016 by mistake. I immediately called reservations back (within 30 seconds of receiving the confirmation email) and was told there was nothing they couId do. I did not want a refund I just wanted the hotel to change the date from November 7 to December 7. I had to send an email requesting a date change. Obviously I did not receive a positive response to my request. In addition when I didn't show up on N... Read more

It is well worth it to stay a night in this lovely old property which has a very nice atmosphere. It's nice to wander through the hotel, focusing on the architectural details. We had three buffet meals at the hotel, all of which were very good. The rooms are large and comfortably furnished. A drawback of the hotel is that it is not near to any mini-markets or restaurants. The grounds of the hotel are a magnet for birds.

This place has nice rooms but whatever cleaning products are used are extremely strong, making for a rather unpleasant olfactory experience! Other than that it has a nice dining room with good food (although the dining room servers were pretty serious and not very friendly). The front desk staff were more pleasant. The main appeal is the pool/deck area which is really outstanding.
