Perfect location to access everything in the city. I liked coming back after a long day and the hotel is right there no matter how you traveled. Comfortable, quiet room. Breakfast was very good and the view from the restaurant made it special. Room was very small by American standards, but typical. Very clean, nice decor, but no shelving to unpack. Due to strike, no staff to clean room is why I give this a low service rating. Hopefully strike resolved soon. Front desk staff was very nice. Wo... Read more

We reached after 7pm by train from Myrdal. Hotel is right outside Central Station. It is in a mall! We rang a bell & waited till they opened from inside. Only once we had to wait for some time as nobody was at the reception to open. But we found another door in the lobby open so no problem. Smooth check in. Room is small but very well planned. Bed is small for 2 people. And it was made for 1 person only. But there is a pull out bunk bed. We didn't find any bed linen, so asked reception. They mad... Read more

We stayed here for three nights in early May. The hotel was well located next to the Railway Station. We were able to walk to most of the sights we wanted to see.The room was comfortable, with a bath and the outlook was good. Strike action meant that there was no daily servicing, but that was not a problem for us and fresh towels etc were available when needed. Breakfast was good value. Would stay here again.

We stayed at the Scandic Byporten for three nights at the start of our Norway holiday. It was very good value for accommodation in Norway. Being located adjacent to the Oslo Central railway station it was an excellent base for exploring Oslo and extremely convenient for our arrival by train from the airport and departure by train for our Norway in a Nutshell trip to Bergen. The hotel is located in the square next to the train station. It is part of a shopping centre complex which leads straight into the train station. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant but uses the one across the corridor called egon. This is used for breakfast also, and means leaving the hotel walking across the corridor which is also the entrance to the shopping centre and going upstairs to the first floor, the breakfast is self service and was excellent in choice and taste, the staff in the ... I cannot express with mere words what a great time we had at this hotel. I have been a Scandic rewards member for many years, and if possible I like to stay at Scandic hotels when I travel to Norway for work, or pleasure. A colleague and I went a night early for a conference and we needed a hotel. I luckily had saved enough Scandic points and we decided to book a night at Scandic Byporten! The rooms are too warm. The front desk made us wait at least 40 minutes when we had issues with the room's lighting. Housekeeping missed our room even when we hung the "please clean up" sign on the door knob. I called front desk. She apologized and said she cannot bring up towels right away -- too many people at the desk. I called at 10:30 pm. It is now 11:40 pm. No towels. Don't stay here. Period.

On a short over-night stay, we booked this hotel based on its proximity to the train station. For that purpose, the location is very convenient, as we arrived in Oslo on train after 10:30pm, and has a morning flight the next day. The hotel is conveniently located for those traveling by train. However, the room is small and very basic and attention to details is poor. As an example our room safe did not work - it took ages to get someone to look at it, they could not fix it and said that they would replace it (but it never happened). I was unsure about this hotel when I arrived as it doesn't look much from the outside, but the staff were friendly when I arrived and the rooms are modern and clean but quite small. Despite it's central location next to the train station I slept very well. Bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Breakfast was OK at the egon restaurant next door.....but the experience can be a bit weird depending upon where you sit - for example this was my first experience of (day1) a candle lit breakfast an... Byporten is very easy to to travel to and right in town centre. Trains and busses are closeby. rooms are clean and efficient but not very luxureous. Breakfastroom is crowded from 7.30 untill 8.30. Good value for money

My 3 review is nothing bad. The hotel is very central and all is good. But its a scandic normal 3 star hotel so nothing special or extra... For my own taste the bed is not super comfy but totally ok. I will probably stay again if just a quick visit to Oslo.

Nice room, could be a little bit bigger, unfortunately without minibar or fridge and without wardrobe - therefor only 4 Points in the rating. Excellent breakfast. Fast check in and check out and very friendly staff.

A clean, comfortable hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Central for many tourist attractions, buses, Hop On/Hop Off bus tours, trams, trains, ferries and shopping. All easily reached on foot. Recommended.

Stayed at the Scandic Byporten with Riviera travel for 3 nights. There appears to be different standards of rooms available and obviously the luck of the draw as to what you get - hence the mid rating. It would make sense to allocate similar rooms to a tour party. The room we were allocated was fairly small but clean & nicely decorated but no wardrobe (just a hanging rail), there was a safe, iron & board & hairdryer & a large full length mirror. The shower room was adequate. The reception / bar ... Read more

The hotel itself is very nice in all aspects but ... the breakfast restaurant Egon is close by but I would advice them to user lighter rooms. Sitting in the dark in the morning having breakfast is for me a bad start of the day.

Although this hotel is centrally located in Oslo, the rooms are small and was not impressed by the facilities. Daily cleaning only consists of making the bed, coffee cups and soaps are not cleaned or replaced - so wouldn't call that service. Also breakfast is at EGON restaurant (which is not part of the hotel - it is next door and you go through the shopping centre to get there). So I am not sure how this is a 4 star hotel when you don't have a restaurant or access to room service - I would s... Read more

Everyone involved in operating this hotel should be commended. The lobby is pleasant and the location is excellent as is the breakfast.. It is a most welcoming environment. We have stayed there several times.

very nice hotel located super convenient next to the railway station. We were not sure when booking as "next to station" often means noisy and unsafe - but not in Oslo!!! This hotel is a charming "Design" Hotel. Very nice lobby, nicely decorated rooms with attention to do. Superb (!) breakfast buffet in the Restaurant next door - included in the rate. We have stayed in hotels that would charge 30EUR pP for a less full breakfast. Very friendly and attentive staff. Mini Shop in the lobby. Dir... Read more

Very convenient if arriving by train as only 100 yards or so from the station. Hotel in the old style. Overlooking a busy piazza, ideal for people watching. Double bedrooms rather small for two people, ideal for single occupancy. Food served at the adjacent Egon restaurant, built to look like an old railway carriage and rather cramped. Breakfast was plentiful, I didn't eat there at any other time. Staff very friendly and quickly sorted out any problems.

This was difficult to grade , as it is a basic hotel but it has some really good plus points . Very clean in rooms and public areas . Very helpful staff . Nice public areas , where you can have free ( machine) coffee if you are resident . Surprisingly quiet rooms ! Beds were strange but comfortable enough ( thin mattresses but ok) . Right next to main train station and walking distance from restaurants , bars and shops . A great hotel for a couple of nights city visit .

We stayed there for 2 nights. The hotel is situated in a good place for visiting the city - just next to railway station, 5 mins walk from central bus station and in a walking distance to the most famous attractions The staff was really nice. I also liked a lot the restaurant in which they serve breakfast, also the food selection was good and the food was tasty Minuses: the room was small and it was difficult to manage with 2 people with 2 big laguages. I would rather recommend it for short stay... Read more

Great central location next to all the main transport available in Oslo. right beside Central Station, very close to both buses and trams as well as the main bus station. Rooms are clean and comfortable if a bit on the small side. If you can get your head around the hotel being part of a shopping centre its not too bad. Storage in the rooms is a bit lacking so you will need to live out of a suitcase. Breakfast,,,,,, when the hotel is busy the best way to describe it is chaos. Its in the Hotel ... Read more

The location right by Oslo Central Station was perfect for us. We took one of the NSB trains in/out from the airport (the ticket is valid on all forms of public transport for a couple of hours after the time stamped when validated on the train - thanks to the train conductor for letting us know!). The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and pleasant. We arrived before our room was ready, so we were allowed to put our belongings in the luggage room in the meantime and offered coffee. Once we g... Read more

Stayed one night and had a great nights sleep (there is just something about Scandinavian beds) after arriving on a late flight. The hotel is 1 minute from the central station so is perfectly located. The rooms are cozy and very modern, albeit a little sparingly decorated but given it a city hotel one does not spend much time in it. Overall it serves its purpose as a city hotel. Breakfast was plentiful but can get a bit crowded.

It's location is prime. It is centrally located within Oslo but what is even better is its location to the train station...literally connected to it via a mall. Rooms were very good and breakfast at adjacent restaurant was good. We left early in the morning on the train on Norway in a Nutshell and it worked out perfectly to stay here. Price was reasonable for a downtown location.
