Our MB Club had a weekend Conference in Wellington. Several Regional Club members from accross the country attended. Quality of rooms and the whole set up for this occasion was good. The presentation of the meals was well done by helpful and friendly staff/ management.

Very well located near City Centre. One of the best buffet breakfast for freshness and choice. All switches are simple and uncomplicated. Very good value for money when booked directly with the hotel as a Priority Member, or join immediately if not a member.

Stayed for a couple of nights when we first arrived in New Zealand. Centrally located near the parliament buildings and convenient for the Ferry to the south island. Rooms slightly lacking personality but nothing more than you would expect from such a large scale operation. We were on the 14th floor and it was perfectly quiet to sleep off the jet lag and a good base for the city. The breakfasts were as good as any we have come across with a good selection of fruit, yoghurt and juices alongside s... Read more

Having stayed at all the other 'named' hotels in Wellington over recent times, we'll always come back to Rydges on Featherstone as our first choice. Excellent location, close to the best restaurants, harbor and Westpac Stadium - and a very impressive restaurant and bar.

The rooms are very comfortable, the only complaint is the air conditioning makes the room a bit hot and stuffy through the night, but is preferable to no air con at all. The staff are very courteous and helpful.

This is a well located hotel in Wellington with friendly staff. The concierge was particularly helpful with bookings for a local trip we wanted to do. Because of the position of the hotel I would request for a Harbour View room as there is a rather old NZ Post building on one side that is not particularly beautiful. The view we had was really amazing. The room we had was really spacious especially the bathroom. It had a very comfortable armchair (perfect for that afternoon snooze on a wet and wi... Read more

We live an hour out of Wellington and frequently catch a 6:30 am flight to Sydney (and beyond!). Rydges has become our "go to" hotel because of its proximity to Wellington Railway Station. We can then travel to Wellington the afternoon before by train and make the short walk to Rydges. As members of Rydges' loyalty programme we each get a free drink. On this occasion our booking also came with a bottle of bubbles. We were both extremely impressed that we were allowed to partake of these drinks... Read more

A warm welcome and speedy service at reception, prearranged requests were verified also. We stayed in a superior king room on the 5th floor. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated. There was a balcony which gave us city views. I personally do not like air conditioning and was grateful for the personalised unit that I could turn off, keeping the ranch slider open for fresh air was great. The frosted glass (with rollerblind) for the bathroom wall was a little unusual, but gave the room a... Read more

I like Ridges, I really do. It's a nice tidy generic "corporate" hotel, which I have visited before. I like the rooms and the little lap pool, and it's in a good spot. On this occasion I was staying with my family, and it seemed the hotel had underestimated the number of people visiting this long weekend. Check in was easy and polite, and our room was ready despite our arriving early. Excellent! From there, however, mainly downhill.... Breakfast was a prime example. Far too many people, too few... We stayed for one night only, and had to be out at 4.40am to get a flight back to Australia. The Reception staff were very efficient, and offered to book us a taxi to the airport, advising that they would use the Green cabs, with a flat rate to the airport. Our room was ready although we were early, and was very comfortable. The bed was divine - wish I could have spent a few more hours in it. We ate at the restaurant which was very pleasant, and again, the attention from the staff was excellent.... Read more

We only stayed overnight - shame it wasn't longer as it was perfect and we didn't have long enough to really enjoy the amenities. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was nice size and well appointed and apparently had just been upgraded. The bathroom was excellent and very clean. The towels nice and thirsty and plenty of them. Breakfast was superb with so much on offer. Couldn't have been nicer. See you again next time .....

Really nice hotel, great location, staff very nice. Room was great and very quiet. We stayed recently for our wedding anniversary. We had a suite on the 6th floor overlooking the Beehive. We checked in about 4pm and there was no valet parking spots left, so a tip would be to check in earlier I guess. We managed to find a free park outside on the street directly across from the hotel and I was able to see the car from our room, so it was OK. Tried to order room service as a treat after the game and continuously tried for 25 mins and could not get anyone. Generally a good experience. Hotel is close to parliamentary area, railway station and the harbour, reasonably close to the civic centre, long walk from museum and Hannah's lane. Room is clean and tidy but small, heating works well. A lot of choices for breakfast including eggs made to order. Staffs are nice. Overall a good hotel and good value for money.

Found room so warm and heater/conditioner so noisy at night that it was difficult to sleep. Was able to solve the problems as asked for duvet inner to be removed and I turned off heater but it wasn't just me. I was with 3 colleagues and they all thought the same. So the lesson is, no matter how great the location/rooms/etc, a comfortable sleep environment is primo! And then not having wifi on check out day - from midnight onwards - and having to ask for it seemed unnecessary.

Room: The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The shower pressure and heated mirror really make a big difference when starting the day. I'm not a fan of the glased window between the bathroom and the bedroom, it has marks which brings our the paranoia in my inner clean freak being so close to the toilet. Best mini fridge ever, the freezer was actually like a freezer! Paid extra for a water view room but in hindsight probably the city view would have been the best. Family package room was quite small with the two double beds in it. The photo makes the room look a lot bigger than it really is. VERY COMFORTABLE beds, just the best! The bathroom lighting was terrible though, way too dark. Pool was great use for our family. Valet parking at $30 per day, was expensive and a pain to use.

My husband and I stayed 22 July. Wonderful room. Bed was divine and one you sink in and conk out in. Bathroom was well set out with ample space to put your toilet bag on the vanity. Carpet was lush and just enough furniture in the room to make it cosy but not crowded. Only drawback is no parking. So we had to walk around in the freezing cold looking for a park and then lug our suitcases back to the hotel. There is a parking bay outside but it is not well signed and is normally full of taxis ... Read more

Comfortable rooms, super-comfy beds and pillows.....small kitchenette w/ refrigerator, microwave, coffee/tea pot. The staff was friendly and helpful. Enjoyed 'Portlander' restaurant in the hotel - had the best breakfast selections and nice for dinner as well.

The Rydges in Wellington was a great place to stay (be sure to ask for a room with a view of the harbor). Hats off to the concierge, Phil. He answered all our questions and more. He pointed us to great restaurants, booked a city tour for us, parked and retrieved our car quickly, and even helped us mail a package home. Phil was the ultimate Sherpa!!

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at the Rydges this year. Every visit has been very professional and the staff wonderful but I still do have the same recurring "challenge". Each time I have found the housekeeping staff not fully trained - or maybe they have too many rooms to make up - as they just pull the sheets up without straightening the bottom sheet. This will not cause me stay anywhere else -but it is annoying. Receptionists, porters and restaurant staff are all helpful.

Our first experience of the hotel was a little less than positive due to the valet (younger male). He was quite rude. Everything from then on was great. Comfortable bed and nice sized room. The indoor pool and spa was great to use with the cold weather.

The travel agent was to request a quiet room but they hadn't. When I mentioned this to the front desk they were very good and moved me away from the elevators to a fantastic corner room. Well done!!!!

The staff and management of Rydges performed extraordinarily during the 7.8 magnitude earthquake the hit New Zealand November 13. Calm, cool and collected, their priority was clearly guest comfort and safety. Beverages and bowls of perfectly executed chips, coffee, tea and hot chocolate were offered, as were cozy blankets and assurance. Guests were informed of all developments, from news reports to the the arrival or engineers to ensure safety of the building. Every employee of the hotel was ca... Read more

We stayed at the Ridges Wellington during the massive earthquake (and hundreds of subsequent tremors) and could not have been more impressed. As first time "earthquakers" we were terrified and had no idea what to do, but the staff went above and beyond expectations - everyone was BRILLIANT. We never want to experience an earthquake again, but could not have wished for a more reassuring or professional staff ... Awesome!!

Rydges is a great central location, five minute flat walk to shops, waterfront and restaurants. We ate at the hotel and enjoyed an outstanding meal and service. Great room, not huge but awesome views - very comfortable.

We drove to Wellington from Turangi, which we used as a base for the first week while holidaying in the North Island. We stayed at the Rydges Wellington on the Labour Day Weekend. They gave us a corner room with a lovely view of Queens Wharf. Even though there was a crane partially blocking our view, it was nevertheless still a nice view to have. By coincidence, there was a firework display near TSB Arena in conjunction with Diwali celebration. We had a splendid view of the display. The room c... Read more

My husband and I have stayed at the Rydges in Wellington's Featherston Street 24 times all up over recent years. As ordinary people we are always amazed by the personal service, warm regard from staff, the relaxing lobby setting, full breakfast and whopping steaks at the Portlander Restaurant. The rooms are simple elegance and we have stayed in a range. The beds sooo comfortable. Make sure if you book Rydges that you choose a harbour view and take your bathing suit to enjoy spa, sauna and cool p... Read more

We stayed at the Rydges on our way from the North Island to the South. Located on the waterfront and only a few minutes drive from the ferry terminal. Upon arrival the staff parked our car for us and carried our luggage up 4 floors to our room (lift out of action due to the earthquake). Room was modern, spacious, clean and comfortable. Service in the bar and restaurant was friendly and efficient. Good food in the restaurant. Near to other restaurants, bars and shops. Would definitely recommend.

Communication prior to arrival was great, as was check in. We were upgraded to a corner room without asking. However erica.saunders@gmail.com when we got to the room, the shades had not been drawn and it was so hot it was unbearable. And it smelled like dirty tennis shoes.....seriously. We turned on the AC and went to dinner for 2 hours. It was cooler when we returned but the system ran most of the night just to be tolerable. Overall lovely room but could use some extra detailed cleaning. For a... Read more

We booked Rydges some time ago for a 3 night stay as part of our Grand Tour of New Zealand. We arrived on the train from Auckland so the hotel was quite convenient from the station - a bit too short for a taxi but perhaps a bit too far to walk with heavy luggage. The room was great - a harbour view but marred slightly by the post office building and building works in front. Check the location of your room if the view is important- some of the end rooms have better views. After a day sightsee... Read more

We stayed in many places throughout this beautiful country. Whilst the staff were helpful enough we didn't get the welcoming feeling that we had everywhere else. It is on the expensive side but then the location is fantastic, you are right in the heart of the city. The rooms were very well presented and comfortable. The pool is small and the gym isn't really a gym it has a running machine and a couple of weights. Overall I felt this hotel is really more interested in cooperate clients than ho... Read more

On arrival in our hire car, staff were helpful in helping unload the car and guiding to drop off the car back to Avis Whilst doing so our bags were delivered to our room (which was upgraded to a harbour view). The room was well equipped, plus for some reason we were left a bottle of complimentary fizz! Couldn't fault the one night stopover with a swift checkout to catch the ferry

This is our third stay in this hotel as we always enjoy it. You can enjoy a view from the spa at the outside action. Breakfast is always delicious. Handy location. Love the magnifying mirror and the defogging large mirror. Large room and quiet unless the wind is howling outside. Rocked a little in the 4.7 quake and woke me up but no apparent damage to building. Quick check-in. Only disappointment is there is no coffee plunger in the room - I am sure there used to be. Comfortable bed but pillows... Read more

I stayed here for two nights while on vacation in Wellington. This is an excellent hotel with a friendly staff. My 17th floor was very comfortable. It had a refrigerator, microwave, small stove, and safe. Wifi was complimentary. The hotel has a bar where I had a nightcap both evenings. Bar staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel has a great location right on the center of the city with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops within a short walk. I would not hesitate to stay here again if in ... Read more

This hotel is a good location if you want to head out and explore the city and harbor. PROS: Good location, nice little kitchenette, easily walkable to everything. Easy location to get to the ferry. Beds were comfortable, and the shower was good. CONS: Didn't find the staff completely friendly or very helpful. I parked my car out front, and nobody came out to meet me, and there are no signs to let you know if it is short term parking or if a valet will come out and meet you. Nobody offered t... Read more
