We stayed here one night while on a 2-day tour from Auckland and back. While there wasn't much right around this hotel, they had a free shuttle to downtown, which we took to get dinner. When we were done eating, we called the shuttle driver and he came and picked us up promptly. The hotel is average,no complaints. They have a very nice souvenir shop in the lobby with a good selection and reasonable prices.

Outdated hotel with bad bathroom aspect. Very dark inside of the room. Bed was comfortable and location is good (close to Te Puia and to the exit road to Taupo) but that was it. Staff was gentle. I expected more, based on the brand name. Stayed only one night but don't recall a very experience.

Great hotel and a lovely stay , right fro the moment we walked in the door . Hotel receptionist was extremely competent and friendly . Enjoyed a splash in the pool and the spa , the room was tidy and comfortable , although the view from our room did overlook the park , the rubbish area below was a little off putting . Sad to say the breakfast included in the hotel cost was a tad sad. The fruit in the breakfast bar was obviously recycled from the day before . The pineapple was dry , turning brown... Read more

Holiday Inn is the preferred hotel for my organisation when hosting conferences etc. It is always bustling with tourists and holidaymakers. Despite its business the hotel's hospitality and facilities still make you feel like you are the priority. Great wifi connection, spas and outdoor pool (tepid). Buffet is pretty good too, especially if you love seafood!

I was sceptical about this hotel, wandering that perhaps because it was one of the earliest hotels in Rotorua, that it maybe be too old. Age made way for personality here. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted warmly by all the staff, be they reception, room service, housemaids and bar and dining room. Our room had a fabulous view out onto the hot pools of Whaka, and up to the forest. and I spent much time admiring the beauty. Our bed was very comfortable, and we were abl... Good location, we were upgraded to a suite which was huge, separate dining area. Fridge and kettle very handy. Just a really tired looking room and hotel. Great views out the big windows though, you'll see the hot springs in the morning and it doesn't smell of sulfur. Would happily return.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn for my husbands birthday. It was exciting to be greeted with flashing lights of the fire engines outside, guests were just re-entering the hotel again so perfect timing. Room was very clean with modern decor. Swimming pool is nice and hot, just about warmer than the spa. Plenty of choice for the full buffet breakfast. Overall we will continue coming back here.

So many little things wrong that they add up to us wishing we were staying elsewhere. Bathroom shower is over a bath and is too short for us so we have to squat to wash our hair - not very relaxing. Beds are uncomfortable and poorly made with a weird underlining. TV in room was broken and had to spend 45 mins waiting in room while they played around to fix it. Our balcony and view was over the dump site/scrap yard out back. Overall would not return or recommend if you can avoid. Expensive for wh... Read more

was there for one night and the room was clean, well appointed, and good staff. Holiday Inns in the USA appear very different from this, it was very nice and felt more like an Intercontinental. The heated pools were closed that night due to flooding, but I find the true measure of a business is how they handle problems, and in this case, the holiday inn gave us passes to the Polynesian Spa to make up for the pools at the hotel not operating and that completely made up for the inconvenience. We had a great stay at the Holiday Inn Rotorua. The reception staff were very helpful, especially when it came to getting free Wi-Fi and rewards points for being a IHG member. I found it cool to have thermal pools/activity just over the Hotel fence. Our room was clean with very comfortable beds. Nice restaurant with reasonable prices. Really liked staying here. Although it's a little way out of town, there is a shuttle bus that goes into the I-site every hour & picks up from there quarter past the hour. All staff, whether front desk, restaurant, bar or cleaning staff were just so friendly & helpful. The sulphur smell can be a bit strong at times, but that is part of staying in that section of town. Our room was good, clean & comfortable. We would stay there again.

One night here was definitely enough. A la carte dining was incredibly slow, an hour wait for soup. Buffet breakfast average at best, I had eaten my meal and was perusing the buffet, a staff member intimated I had not let them know I was dining, asking me my room number, interesting as we were sitting right next to her station at the front of the restaurant. Plus side very comfortable bed.

Yes, a touch from downtown. But better for it--near the little village at the entrance for the thermal site just behind the hotel. Whakarewarewa - The Living Maori Village. Heated pool--geothermal style. My quibble is that for us frequent users (Spire for me) the internet is helpful and included, but logs you out sometimes. And logged us out ahead of checkout on our first stay, and would not let us back in. Ah, the wonders of feeling like wifi is as crucial as water, a bed, shelter. Again... Read more

The bed is comfortable, the bathroom is well supplied and kept very clean. The coffee/tea/milk are adequate and refilled daily. Internet was good. Rotorua, of course, is a beautiful little town and although the near view from the room is of the garbage cans at the back of the hotel, the distant views are green and beautiful. The restaurant serv... Read more

I am just on my way out of Rotorua and headed back to Auckland . As we drive out I am reviewing my experience with holiday inn .. The front desk particularly Hayden and Nikita were very helpful ... They made perfect hosts. The location of holiday inn and their hospitality ( referring to the vast breakfast buffet they lay out each morning )is their USP., You wake up to such an amazing view .. This hotel is away from down town ..but they have a shuttle every hour so that should not be a probl... Read more

I spent just one night in this hotel but found it quite nice. There was a huge conference going on while I was there and I'm sure the staff had their hands full, however I never felt neglected. The rooms were quite nice and even though I was staying alone my room had a double and single bed. From my balcony I could see faint steam rising from the thermal pools (or Te Puia) in the distance. The hotel also has a heated pool although I did not use this. Only con was that there was a problem with ... Read more

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in April 2016. The place was clean and had most of the amenity as its advertises. Location of the hotel is excellent to visit all major tourist attraction but little away from city center of Rotorua. There is an onsite restaurant offers buffet dinner but we did not try it due to a long wait, perhaps consider prior booking to avoid wait. Although, I remember seeing good variety in their menu. We had paid more than NZ$230 per night but the room size was very sma... Read more

Standard holiday inn hotel, clean and friendliness are always there. There is no free wifi, it requires signing up of their hotel club. However, wifi connection page did not show any sign up link Generally, it is a pleasant hotel. Only 1 alternate lift is functioning, 2 were down. Maintenance work might be ongoing as I was awoke by drilling sound early morning.

Ashamed how late we are putting this review on after our stay. We found the hotel a really a good base and rooms very comfortable. It is some way out of town and only drove in but imagine it might be a bit of a walk. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. You accept that due to the geothermal activity it will be a bit smelly and one lf the bonuses if its proximity is the amazing geothermally heated swimming and spa pools which I made good use of. The rooms were simply decorated but nice enou... Read more

Spent three nights at this hotel in Rotorua, New Zealand while touring attractions in the area. My wife and I found the room to be clean, functional and the bed comfortable ... nice buffet breakfast on site. The staff was friendly and helpful. Net-net comfortable recommending this hotel to others.

This hotel was great for our needs (me travelling with 2 young kids, in Rotorua for less than 24 hours) The hotel is clean, has a great pool and 2 spas (pool heated so fine for October swimming!) beds are comfortable, and I found it very quiet and had good free wifi which meant I could work once kids asleep. It is a little out of town, would not walk in with the kids, I think they do have shuttles, but we had a car so that was fine. We did not eat at the hotel - so can't comment on that, but t... Loved our stay at the Holiday Inn. The hotel has a real international feel about it, spacious lobby, quality furnishings and fittings, comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. Excellent value for a wonderful experience! Highly recommended.

Exactly what you would expect from a holiday inn. Clean tidy and comfy. What I would say is because of the fantastic location close to the volcanic areas of interest to visit you do get a smell of rotting eggs coming over from the park. On another note the staff we dealt with were very helpful. We would stay here again.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of an organised tour.Initally looked like an other hoilday Inn but the facilites available were excellent. They offered a mini bus shuttle to go into town and picked us up on time. The restauant was probably the best for breakfast during our whole trip. The hotel was close to the local attractions and the pool was a thermap pool. The whole place looked magical with geothermal activity all around the place , the only downside being the sulphur smell. Stayed two relaxing nights. Breakfast buffet was delicious with get selections and personable, friendly staff. Free parking, comfortable rooms and beds. Will stay again if we come back to Rotorua. Thermal pools on a path directly behind the hotel were an interesting discovery.

The positive to this hotel is its convenience in Rotorua and being close to all the tourist attractions. I would recommend to request a room on the higher levels as quality varies from room to room. We did not have a good nights sleep due to the fact that the beds were extremely soft and the bathroom certainly did not have a "5 star" feel or look to it. We had to request a new room the next day which was too a much higher standard (for a fee). It is confusing why this is considered a "luxury"... Read more

The staff were all very friendly but we found our room to be rather small and tired. At times the smell in the room was quite overpowering- but this is Rotorua and only to be expected. Our main disappointment was the breakfast. I have never seen tinned spaghetti offered at a hotel breakfast buffet! I ordered an omelette one morning and after 20 minutes and a reminder it arrived. It was like a frisbee, it was so hard and dry. I can only imagine that it had been forgotten under a hot lamp in the k... Read more

Spent a night here, when on business. Pluses - Pool, spa, place to store bikes. Close to Redwood Forrest. Minuses - uncomfortable beds. Not enough parking. Price of "standard room" definitely overpriced. Also the cost to upgrade to a "better" room $30 was not worth it, as that room had less space, and a worse view. The staff were very helpful.

Stayed here for 3 nights whilst touring the north island. We loved it here, we had a lovely room over looking the thermal village and the hotel pool. Yes, the smell was over powering at times but we got used to it and accepted it for being what Rotorua was all about. Lovely heated pool and spa baths. Room was large enough and the bathroom lovely with little added touches. We had the buffet dinner on one of the nights which was fantastic, so much choice and good quality food. Excellent Wi-Fi. The highlight of this place is most certainly the food, the wait staff and the spa pools. Other exciting things are the excellent range of washing (shampoo) products and things in your room you can use ie:iron. The food is incredibly fresh and tasty. I would most certainly come again. The inn itself could do with a carpet change up where the rooms are and the smell in the hall ways are musty and smelly. Rooms and bathrooms are very clean. Not particularly for children. This is a very nice hotel with an amazing breakfast buffet. The fitness room is nice, and the pool and hot tubs are also good. The hotel is located right next to some of Rotoruas finest geothermal attractions, which means you need to be prepared for the smell. I think this is true for many of Rotoruas hotels. The wifi is free if you are a member, and it's free to become a member.

Very bad view. No slippers. they have pick up drop shuttles from hotel to centre. Service is good but its at end of town you need to walk a lot to go anywhere. Room is spacious for 2, bathroom is small but nicely cleaned. Hygienic.
