Staff were more than willing to help with anything you might need. Ocean restaurant attached was mediocre and pretty pricey. Best part was the wonderful bartender, Josh. Really personable guy, good stories, great recommendations on drinks was the biggest thing. Not to mention he could probably make anything to your liking meticulously.

Other than the shower head, the hotel was very nice. The shower head was very low for me and I'm only 5'4". Our room had wonderful light, lots of mirrors, lots of hangers, and nice towels. I counted 4 outlets free to use. The wifi was good and the rooms were quiet.

We enjoyed a night at the Rutherford which is by far our most favourite place to stay when we come to Nelson. It has that touch of luxury and decadence about it which elevates it above the numerous motels in the town. We were greeted by Ciaran McKenna at the front desk, a charming friendly person. From check in to check out our experience was wonderful. We enjoyed dining in at the Miyazu Restaurant with our family in the evening and had the best sleep. Looking forward to returning.

This is the best hotel in central Nelson with a choice of restaurants in the hotel and very comfortable quiet rooms. The staff are friendly and capable and the breakfast buffet we had was good. The views over the town or hills are interesting. The hotel is about 100m from the town square where the excellent Saturday market is held. It is beside Nelson's cathedral. There is underground secure and off-street parking for a small fee and a gym and pool.

Good location, basic breakfast buffet but terrible showers, full of lime scale which resulted in no pressure and felt like a hosepipe and to charge for car parking is a joke !! For a 4star hotel this is not acceptable nowadays !!!

Stayed in the Rutherford for two nights in two adjoining rooms which were comfortable and well equipped. The hotel in general however was lacking in that it has a meagre swimming pool that looked dirty and unkempt (only 3 sun loungers for a hotel of this size ... Bizarre). From first checking in and throughout our stay we felt like the staff were trying to peddle the hotel dining options ... All of which we didn't fancy in favour of the close-by restaurant options available. The valet parking,... Read more

Customer service poor. Had to go through each morning that we had pre paid breakfast. Made to feel that we were trying to pull a fast one and had to wait for phone calls to manager to confirm. Had to change room as broken toilet with no apology. At one point it was pointed out that we could put hand down top of cistern to flush. Lastly beds need renewing worst we have slept in.

Hotel was clean, very good ambience and in a convenient location, walking distance to town centre and all the eateries. A clean indoor heated pool would have been great. Manager Megan was brilliant. Nothing was too hard for her and the porter Dylan always had a smile and ready to assist. Went with the family so I would recommend this hotel.

Loved this hotel! On arrival, parking was easy and reasonably priced behind the hotel. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and made us feel instantly at home despite the grandeur of the entrance hall. The room itself was like a mini apartment with sofa, kitchen area, tea and coffee (Nespresso machine!) and microwave. DĂ©cor was homely and beds were very comfortable. Slept very well despite earthquake tremors! Air con was brilliant and shower was powerful. Other facilities included two r... Read more

Modern room, although a little damaged in decor. Could hear some noise from people in rooms adjacent during our 2 night stay. Reception staff helpful on arrival. Approx 5 mins walk to local eateries, covering various price ranges.
