We stayed at the hotel last week. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The service from the staff was quick and looked effortless. I tripped outside and hit my head, when I came inside the lady at reception ran over to help with the first aid kit and was very caring. She rang later on the day to find out how I was feeling and if there was anything else she could help with. Will definitely stay there again when in Christchurch.

Lovely, modern hotel. Central location right in the CBD. Very quiet, as alot of the building sites are bare land at the moment. Stayed on the 9th floor, and had brillant views of Christchurch and the surrounding area. Nice breakfast in the morning, and lovely evening meal in the restaurant.

Stayed at Novotel for 3 nights on business. Had problems at check in, and when I mentioned it was booked and paid for by work, staff were quite short and rude. Room was nice and tidy. Find it a little strange having a bathroom basin in my room. Dinner was disappointing, seafood chowder lacks flavour, steak quite tough and chewy. Breakfast buffet was good. Rooms really need to have more information about the hotel, and surrounding area. I was not aware there was an onsite restaurant that offered ... Read more

My partner and I stayed here for a car trip up to Wellington and this was our first stop. I didn't realize how much the city is still in ruins from the earthquakes, most building are still yet to be rebuilt, however Novotel was a great hotel amidst all the re planning. It's modern, clean, and would of had amazing views pre earthquake but our room looked over the cathedral which was devastated by the earthquake which made me feel quite sad. There are hotel buildings across which have been closed ... Read more

We had a couple of nights here. Checked In by a lovely young lady. Given a choice of a gift for some reason, we chose the free valet parking which was a good call as that is 35 a day. If you don't use the valet park option you can park in the carpark adjacent to hotel for about $5 ??a night but be warned if it rains it's a giant swimming pool and you will need gumboots to rescue your car. Breakfast was included in our rate and was perfectly fine. The room is adequate but bathroom situation... Read more

we stayed here one night in april, while ending our south island itenary.the hotel is plush, and rooms well decorated...though the idea of an open basin is a little hard to understand.the location is as central as can get.the tram stop is 2 min away.malls and shopping is close by,as is the cathedral.though it is a shame that christchurch is still in ruins, and no fun to visit.the bar is good, and breakfast excellent.

Very nice, modern hotel in a great location. The room was comfortable, but having the sink outside of the bathroom - essentially in the bedroom - was less than ideal. If you are alone it is no issue, but if you are trying to sleep while someone else is getting ready at the sink, it's a little difficult. The restaurant was lovely and the food very good. Wifi was free if you filled out a quick and free membership application.

It was the last leg of my tour, ending with a very comfortable stay at Novotel. It has free 2-way shuttle service to the casino in town any time, so just gather a group of fewer than 9 people and they will shuttle you off. Coming back will need to tell the reception at the casino about 1 hour ahead so they can call the driver, if not you can just take a cab at around 10nzd for 7-8 pax. At night, there is really nothing much in the town, the nearest macdonalds is at least 2km away. Best bet fo... Read more

We mainly chose this hotel due to location which is very central & handy for the city, it's what you would expect from a large chain hotel-comfortable modern & a little bland. The staff were super friendly & the breakfast was good. The hotel overlooks the crumbling cathedral which is so sad to see & the tram goes right past. No on site parking which is strange as there is still so much vacant land surrounding the hotel, Wilson parking is next door for $10 a day.

This is a very good hotel within the scope of the Novotel brand. Rooms are well sized and immaculately clean, with very comfortable beds. There is an excellent restaurant for breakfast and dinner, administered by very friendly staff. For those that need it there is free internet. Excellent location

I needed a hotel in the centre of the city for a night and thought I would treat myself (I wrongly assumed that because it was pricey that meant luxury). This hotel, although in a great location, felt like it was built in a hurry so that there were accommodation options for tourists in Christchurch. The fit-out in the room was cheap and it had a very weird bathroom configuration. The carpark was not paved and was stoney and muddy, you have to carry your bags not wheel them. The valet parking off... Read more

After the earthquake, the Novotel is one of the tallest buildings standing and usable. In the heart of the city center, you can walk a few minutes in any direction and find great places to eat. The rooms are comfortable. Internet was not very fast, but it was reliable. Everyone was very helpful. Breakfast was included and it was good food, but not a lot of variety

We stayed here as part of a tour and were not disappointed. It is located across the street from the Anglican church that is still in disrepair. Rooms were spacious. Great bathroom. Buffet breakfast and dinner were very good. I cannot speak to the price since it was part of a tour.

I stayed 3 nights at Novotel Christchurch, location was good near cathedral square and ballantynes shopping mall as well. All staffs were great, we felt so comfortable and welcome by all the staffs here. One last thing was about the heating system, it was great and kept the room really warm. We will definately return to this hotel.

Just happened to mention when booking it was our 25th wedding anniversary and were greeted at reception with a very polite concierge who immediately congratulated us and afforded us an early check in and drink vouchers!! Not only that , the hotel manager personally called to our room with breakfast vouchers and more congratulations and a hand written anniversary card by the staff on duty!! Wow, we arrived to be greeted by an amazing bunch of staff. we turned up early but they still gave us our room without any hesittation which is good because we just spend 2 days on a plane. Had lovely time, staff were all wonderful and food was just delicious. We just ran out of coffee but that was ok because we just forced ourselves to go cafe down stairs. Thank you guys, and hope to see you all again, nice stay, high recommendation

The hotel is comfortable in a city struggling for vacancy. We had a great bed, & their breakfast was as good as you will get in s hotel. Better brekky than most Australian hotels in fact. And the real winner, awesome coffee from the barista. Stay here, but definitely include the brekky package. What a surprise Christchurch is post earthquake. People are all friendly, very positive & upbeat about their city's potential. Quite confronting to see such a desolate scene, with many buildings ru... Read more

Decent enough hotel in a brilliant location right near the cathedral ruins. Lots of nearby eateries and just a 5 minute walk to the shopping district. The hotel is clean and the staff are great. The shower and toilet were in a separate room, but the handbasin and mirror etc were in the bedroom, which I didn't enjoy at all.

This hotel is in a good location and the staff are friendly and polite. The rooms are ok, although there is an odd bathroom configuration with the sink in the bedroom. Big disappointment is the expensive and ineffective wifi. $10 for 1000MB, which I think is unreasonable these days when even youth hostels offer free unlimited wifi. The internet is also very slow, making this hotel not the ideal place for business travellers who are relying on the Internet, Skype etc for work. I enjoyed the c... Read more

We stayed here a few days in winter. Used it as a base to do touristy things in Christchurch. The hotel is new and modern and the staff were attentive. It is centrally located so we were able to walk or take the tram around the city. We had a dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were good. I would stay here again.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights in an executive suite. The room was fantastic, great wifi (which was complimentary) and really nice breakfast. Location was good - Really central to everything and an easy walk to most city restaurants an shopping. The only downside was the restaurant - we had a very average dinner here on our first night. It is also quite expensive for the quality. Overall I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

Christchurch Novotel sits right in the middle of this city of mixed emotions. First is the sadness and obvious physical damage from the 2011 earthquake, then there is the exuberance and vitality of the people charged with rebuilding. The hotel overlooks Cathedral Square - ask for a room with a window towards the cathedral, you will not regret it. While not cheap, you get what you pay for in terms of quality of facilities and service. Good restaurants are within easy walking distance, and the sho... Read more

Visiting Christchurch as part of a recent business trip to NZ was somewhat last-minute. We felt that seeing the city first hand after the recent 'quakes and its subsequent rebuild is pivotal in our understanding of how the city re-build is progressing. We opted for the Novotel in the city centre and were greeted with warm and friendly staff showing all the boutique touches in customer service. An excellent bar, restaurant and positioning made for an enlightening and memorable experience.

The likes of novotel are like the hotel worlds version of macdonalds. You know what you are going to get, they are all about the same standard etc. It was a nice clean room restaurant i thought was very expensive so did not bother. The staff where great, sadly cathedral square is a shadow of its former self,

With currently no inner city traffic at present, one simply drives to the door and valet parking will relocate your car to the basement. The room was well appointed and clean and tidy. Our view was a sombre one overlooking the broken Cathedral. All the staff we dealt with were laid back and super friendly. A credit to the hotel.

First off.... I normally stay across the street at The Heritage Hotel ... it is a grand old property that has been completely refurbished after the earthquake. For roughly the same rate as Novotel you get an enormous two bedroom room with high ceilings, a kitchen -- and breakfast. Great if you have kids. Novotel will give you a second room at a discount if you have kids. So how is it that we ended up at the Novotel? Well - we are on our way back from Queenstown and we left the booki... Read more

My husband & I stayed at the Novotel while visiting family. - Quite a small room. Great views & location. - Decor was pretty crappy, definitely not 5 star, more like 2-3 star. Our new apartment in Sydney is more 5 star than this hotel! To shower in the Novotel you need to stand in the bath- which I hate. Gross cheap rubber anti slip mat in the bath, and cheap shower curtain. Old bath, poky small bathroom, with toilet in the same room. No night light in the bathroom so hard to find it in the mid... We had a warm welcome right from the start of our visit ! We really appreciated the Receptionist's cheerful small talk and interest in our South Island travels! we got a very nice room on a high floor which afforded a stunning view out onto the ruined Cathedral below.
