My wife and I were lucky enough to win a meal at this Hotels newly reopened restaurant so decided to celebrate and book a night in a one bedroom suite (which we have looked at but never booked because it looked too stuffy??! ) but how wrong were we.We previously had used the Rydges Hotel at Latimer Square which we have enjoyed but all rooms seemed the same although comfortable. The Heritage rooms are on a different level with a separate upstairs bedroom and bathroom while downstairs a large and ... Read more

This hotel is old world charm. From the front reception desk to the cleaning staff it was great service. Very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to most of what is left in Christchurch. Rooms are huge. Every thing including washing machine dryer and the kitchen sink. Beds are amazing if I could imagine what it is like to sleep on a cloud that would be my description of the Super King size bed. Not suitable if you cannot climb stairs as all bedrooms are on a Mezzanine Floor.Stayed there at th... Read more

On a very hot day, we could not cope with the heat. The Windows wouldn't open. Manager offered a small fan and was completely unsympathetic. Heat triggers my heart condition - I couldn't stay. No refund offered - and no apology. We moved to another hotel anyway.

we were advised not to come to Christchurch, but do not listen to people as it is so worth a visit, we booked this hotel on our last week as we did both islands. Hotel grand old building, staff really nice and could not do enough to help you. we had a two bed roomed apartment, which had everything in it, it was great as I returned to England with all my washing done!!! Loads of room, big kitchen which we did not use but had everything in it, lovely lounge area and two bedrooms upstairs. Now the... Read more

Really beautiful old hotel, housed in old government building. Very nicely finished, suites are spacious and comfortable. Two-floor suites are not user friendly when it comes to dragging your luggage up the narrow, twisting stairs - probably a function of the interior architecture of the building and historic preservation requirements and not an intentional design flaw. Staff are very friendly and helpful, even walking me to my car in the valet lot because I had forgotten something inside. V... Read more

Absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. It is a beautiful old building and it‚??s great to see it still in such great shape after the earthquakes. Loved the mezzanine bedroom in our apartment. The bed and pillows were so comfortable it was like sleeping on a cloud. Didn‚??t do much cooking but the kitchen was well-equipped had we wanted to. Gym very well set up with 10 or so cardio machines, weight machines and a good selection of weights, good sized lap pool and spa. Didn‚??t try the res... Read more

Very pleasant and helpful staff at this excellent hotel in a very central location. It survived the quake because of extensive strengthening prior to the quake - while buildings all around were destroyed. It's very safe and solid. The suites were huge and my bed was luxurious. There's a great bar near reception that is a must.

The hotel is part of a history. People's lifes were touched by it as it was a post office. Furthermore, as it is behind the cathedral, the two buildings must be important parts of the society during that time. As a historical/heritage building it survived many earthquakes in the past, even the big one in 2011. However, you will find that it has gone through upgrading and modernization so that you will be comfortable staying in it. The rooms we chose were really big, with 2 separate rooms and 2... Read more

Was a little tricky to find at first as their front door was blocked by works. Very convenient location. Walk to cathedral square where theatre is and there are shops and cafes too. Staff are very helpful too. Valet Parking at the hotel is great. Just $15 for a day.

This is a lovely old historic building in the centre of Christchurch. We got a 2 bedroom suite for the 4 of us (mum, dad 14 & 12 yr boys). Boys bedroom had 2 single beds and the master, with ensuite, had the most comfy king size bed! We arrived late, nearly midnight. The front desk staff was extremely cheerful and made us feel welcome.

We stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of a trip around New Zealand. The hotel is a tasteful conversion of a heritage building, right in the heart of Christchurch. A couple of days before our arrival, there had been a fire at the front of the building, and the signage from the secondary access in the side street could have been better. The staff were delightful in all of our dealings with them. The room had a kitchen/dining/lounge room downstairs with the bed and bathroom (including ... Read more

The rooms are super spacious and the breakfast is very nice, My only complaint is that guests have to pay for car parking - when the hotel is surrounded by a lot of flattened building sites. We stayed here pre-quake. Still a nice hotel.

This is an amazing old building with wide corridors and huge ceilings. This is not an historic building gutted to a shell and renovated, but more an original structure re-purposed. Our 2 bed apartment was huge and very comfortable. There is a nice pool and gym in the basement. Valet parking is simple or there is an outdoor public carpark nearby. Service was helpful and friendly. A great place to stay in downtown Christchurch. The real question is why would you stay in downtown Christchurch o... Read more

We had a very nice room/apartment with two levels and a kitchenette. The gym was small but adequate. We used the parking valet which was not expensive ($15/day NZD). Other than it being a little difficult to get to (due in part by our unfamiliarity with the city), this is a very good place to stay.

This classic hotel in the middle of Christchurch has huge dimensions. Wide hallways, high ceilings and large rooms do just a little extra than you would expect to pay for a business style hotel. Our suite had an open loft bedroom and a kitchen. Excellent location. $15 velvet parking.

Great looking hotel albeit still waiting to be fully restored on outside, while there front door access was restored for use. Interesting restaurant and more interesting bar both of which I believe are independent of the hotel. Restaurant meal not largest and a little pricey as was the bar with it's "Hipster" staff but very friendly and service was great, only hickup was a false fire alarm at 5.30am ish all out and downstairs and in a freezing lobby/entrance, no offer of compensation not even a ... We stayed here in 2013, a couple of years after the earthquakes, when it was one of the only hotels left in central Christchurch. They were picking themselves up then - now they are almost fully back on track. The rooms are large and spacious, with full kitchens if you wish to stay in. The restaurant and bar are very welcoming if you don't want to journey to far in what is still an area of the city under construction. It is a bit pricey but we love it and will return again.

We paid the same amount for this 'one bedroom suite' as we had done for a small double room in a hotel in Auckland, so it was well worth the money. Thank you Heritage Christchurch for a great stay. The well appointed room was spacious with lounge, dining area and a well equipped kitchen. The mezzanine had bedroom, bathroom and wardrobe area and the bed was particularly comfortable, the complete space was warm and quiet. Staff were efficient and friendly. it is an amazing example of a make over for a once due for demolition heritage building. the architect has taken full advantage of the high stud and build amazing mezzanine floors into the room. obviously as they are individually owned and serviced by the hotel some things could work better, heating etc, but these are quite possibly with the right trades persons easily rectified. on the whole, great location, great service will stay again

Check in was a simple process, allocated a room on the 2nd floor, the rooms are well‚?¶BIG! The room was spread over 2 floors consisting of a kitchen and table, living space, king size bed, storage area, bathroom and a washer and dryer. We were shocked by just our huge our room was... and on two floors! Loved the high ceilings and original features of both our room and the hotel itself. We liked the bar too - cosy and busy. The location of the hotel is very central. You can't really say it's a 'good' location as Christchurch is still very much in recovery mode from the earthquakes so much of the area local to the hotel is still a building site or empty land. However, it's a short walk to New Regent Street, the tram stop and t... Read more

Christchurch is a city that has been decimated by the earthquake five years ago but if you have reason to visit this is the hotel to stay at. We had a 2 bedroomed suite. The bedrooms are upstairs and 2 bathrooms and full kitchen and lounge. Very quiet. Comfortable beds. Discreet and friendly staff. We didn't try the bar downstairs but it looked like a place the locals go to and it was inviting.

This place was unbelievably awful. They falsely advertising having parking, the room was filthy--with dirty sheets. The shower was broken. The room was incredibly noisy--the people above us sounded like elephants, although I doubt they were doing anything unreasonable. The night desk clerk was unhelpful. The last straw was a false fire alarm at 5 am, which the staff said happens all the time, the system malfunctions. To be fair, the night manager did eventually move our room, comp our room...
