Volendam is a small village outside of Amsterdam. The main street fells a bit touristy and you get a sense of small village, yet if you head towards the outskirts, away from the water, it is a much bigger village with various restaurants and bars. Hotel Spaander has a great location right on the water, decorated extremely authentically and is in safe location. The rooms were simple and clean, fine for the money and lucked out with a balcony. Good rates during off season.

We stayed at the spannder after a busy week at Assen BSB so it was great to spend some time in the village after 10 days in a camper-van , on arrival we were greeted to a warm welcome by the receptionist and asked if we would like an upgrade , we immediately took the offer and it was worth every penny , a lovely spacious and airy room with a balcony and lake view . we also had some great food in the restaurant. the parking was free , and the traffic control was no problem to use , this only appl... My husband and I stayed here for the first few nights of our honeymoon. I'd mentioned this when booking, so we were delighted to be given a room with a balcony - they had even thoughtfully scattered petals on the bed! The hotel is definitely old-fashioned, but that is part of its charm. It's slightly sprawling and rickety, but fits in with its surroundings in the quintessentially Dutch town of Volendam. Lakeside views are outstanding and the room is of a good size with a very comfortable bed and... Read more

It had been some 30 years since we stayed at this hotel. Good news is that, although it has been extensively remodeled, it still has the same cosy atmosphere. The rooms are much better than 30 years ago. Our large, comfortable room faced away from the Ijsselmeer (former Zuiderzee) but the view over the red-tiled roofs was very picturesque. The breakfast (15.00 Euro per person) in the bright dining room was excellent and extensive. The ship models in the windows add an artistic touch. The dining... Read more

Beautiful old decor in the heart of town, looks over the water and it offers a beautiful view. Lovely and quaint, even just having a drink and snack on the porch on a beautiful day, it was great! So nice to walk to all the shops nearby.

This hotel is located in the hart of the Volendam touristic area. It still has that typically old Dutch feeling. When the temperature is nice the offer a beautiful terrace to sit and oversee the IJsselmeer. Nice play to stay

The location was right in the heart of things and nice walks close by Take a walk to the windmill. Here's a great picture op, typical Netherlands - windmill, canals and bicyclist. Only thing missing is tulips! Bad enough our window looked down on the roof below but it was strewen with cigarette butts and trash. Hotel could clear this. Looking straight out we looked directly into the windows of another building - only about 30 feet away at most. This blocked almost all of the sky, but if we l... Read more

Used this hotel for a leadership development centre and felt right at home here. Very personal staff and great common areas and location. The rooms are very dated and basic, but kept clean and well functioning. The history of artists staying here and the pictures on display is awe inspiring. Worth swinging by even if you are not staying here.

Don't expect to be accommodated for any changes. If you need a taxi, call the taxi yourself because the staff don't want to help you with booking them. They were quite rude towards us when all we did was ask politely. They expect that you know everything already. The first woman we saw initially was sweet, but everyone after that were cold and make sure you read the fine print saying you can only have two people in one room otherwise you'll need to book a room for the extra person. The breakfast... Read more
