The second time I visited Amsterdam I decided with my girlfriend to try the Tropen hotel. The location was descent, and there was a train to the city's center every few minutes. The staff was welcoming and very hospitable. I recommend visiting if you're on a easy going and calm vacation and don't want to pay high prices for sleeping in the center.

The hotel had everything I wanted, and was fairly comfortable. The room itself was comfortable and clean, but I was surprised that for the three nights I was there, a really bad mess was left unattended in the hall outside the elevator. To be fair, I didn't mention it, but you'd think someone in housekeeping would have noticed. Anyway, that aside, I had no problems and enjoyed the stay. I had breakfast include with my room price and that was a mistake; it was awful. The staff on the front de... Read more

Friendly and fast reception. Clean and good rooms with beautiful views over Amsterdam. No Minibar! Nice Restaurants and bars in the near. 20 minutes walk to Central Station. Breakfast ok, but with 15.00â?¬ to expensive!

The room was clean and provided all needed for a short stay. A kettle in the room was great as it allowed us to have additional drinks at leisure. Basic toiletries were included. A down side was that it was only bed and breakfast with no facilities for dinner, so we did have to go out to eat. The location is right next to the Tropen Museum, on one side, and the park on the other. Easily accessible from central station on a number 9 tram. We would not hesitate to use it again.

This is a very nice hotel in a good location, with tram stops right outside to the centre and Amsterdam Central Station. The rooms are very nice and modern. There is plenty of choice for breakfast and excellent coffee. Would definitely recommend. Muiderpoort Station is very close by and convenient for travelling direct to or from the Airport. Getting a travel card for all the public transport combined for 1 or more days is definitely recommended and economical.

Just returned from a 4 night stay here with my wife. We stayed in room 507 which overlooks Oosterpark. The room was of ample size, with a very comfortable bed and a great en-suite with walk in shower and a hairdryer. The whole room was clean when we arrived and was cleaned daily thereafter. Toiletries, which were superb, and drinks were replenished daily. There's a large window which could be opened wide when you're in the room and a smaller one which could be left open when you were out. T... Read more

This hotel has been converted from either an apartment or student hospice building. The room was ok size but prolonged and narrow so not most convenient. For two people it would be ok but for us three it wasn't enough space with an extra bed in the way. The beds were doubles at best. Mattress and pillows were ok but not great. There was a Nespresso expression machine which was nice. Also a safe and kettle. No fridge. The bathroom and toilet rooms which were separate were the main letdown. Bot... Read more

We spent five nights at the Tropen Hotel. It is directly located next to the Tropen Museum and has a tram stop right in front. Therefore, it is perfect for a city trip. The hotel looks a bit old from the outside but the room we had in the 10th floor was renovated. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast buffet was good. It is right next to the Osterpark which is beautiful for a walk or run. If we visit Amsterdam again, we will surely stay there.

To be fair, we were searching for a budget hotel and in that category, this was very good. It is well located in the centre of town and is clean. The room and bathroom were miniscule but the bed was comfortable and we didnâ??t ask for more. There isnâ??t any breakfast serves (or any that we saw) but there is a bakery across the street which satisfied our needs. There is also a small bar if you wish to have a drink before heading in. All in all, I wouldnâ??t head back there soon but it served our... Read more

Stayed here for a couple of nights with a friend. From the outside I was a little worried as it doesn't look very inviting. However, the inside of the hotel is lovely. The rooms were a good size and clean. We had a room on the 10th floor so the view was amazing. Check in and out was easy and the staff were great at helping us with the trams. The location is good. Really close to the zoo and took us about 30 minutes to walk to the main train station. Would recommend and stay again if we came back... Read more

My friends and I stayed at the Hotel for 3 days. First I have to say that the staff was more than friendly, they tried to do everthing to make your stay as cmfortable as possibile. The Hotel from outside isn´t really beautiful but the rooms are clean and in contrast to the rest of the building new. The price was not great, but at that time of the year, there isn´t really a cheap and nice place in Amsterdam. I really would reccomend the Tropen Bar next to the building .

Lovely hotel, nice rooms, really helpful staff. Breakfast was ok, standard continental. Location - about 40 min walk from central Amsterdam but the number 9 tram stops outside and there is a local train station about 5 mins walk, with direct trains to Amsterdam Centraal and the airport. The hotel is in a very pleasent park and next to a museum (we had dinner there one night, very nice) so a lot quieter than the heart of Amsterdam. There are a good few bars and restuarants near by too, taking out... Read more

Tropen Hotel is located near the lovely and green Oosterpark and offers some excellent views of the park. There are many restaurants, cafes, bars and shops nearby and the Amstel and downtown areas of Amsterdam. The staff was very accommodating and if you don't speak Dutch then you should have no problems. The rooms were clean and modern, there is free Wi-Fi and an excellent array of International TV channels and the beds were firm yet comfortable and there is a safe for your convenience. The sho... I have stayed at this Hotel for a week with my wife. From the 9th floor the urban wiew is fantastic. The staff is very kind and available. The logistic position is ok because tram number 9 runs around the hotel (100 meters). Morover, it is positioned in a corner of a handsome and luxuriant urban park near Tropen Museum. The room was confortable as a whole and the bathroom very clean, but in the bedroom there was a bit of dust. The value for money is very convenient. I suggest it definitely.

Stayed for 3 nights and brilliant hotel. Greeted by staff where we could put our luggage in the luggage room as we couldn't check in until 3pm which is fair enough as didn't have to check out until 12pm when coming home. After staying in a few hotels in Amsterdam over several years I can honestly say that this has been the best we have stayed in. The first thing asked of us was if we'd like to offload our luggage and store it safely as our early arrival meant that our room wasn't ready for us, that put a smile on our faces straight away. Friendly reception staff that seemed to do all the jobs around the hotel made our check in simple, breakfast was good and it looked as though the hotel has recently been renov... Read more

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. From the outside, it has a bit of a tower block appearance and not much curb appeal. In fact I would say it looks out of place in its surroundings. However, that said, when we went inside, it has clearly had a facelift and both the reception and our room was of a high standard with good quality fixtures and fittings. Just a few quibbles about the room - first being, there were no drawers so pretty much had to leave our smalls in view of cle... Read more

Not the most visually pleasing hotel when you walk towards the main entrance, but it more than makes up for that with its well trained and incredibly helpful staff and outstanding location. The front entrance is 200 yards from the number 9 tram stop that takes right into the heart of Amsterdam. The park next door is stunning and a wonderful place to spend a quiet couple of hours. We arrived late to the hotel after a delay with our flight. The check in was very quick and smooth and the lad on reception was very helpful in assisting us and letting us know where the local tram stops where etc. We were given room 906 on the 9th floor. This hotel is right next to the Tropenmuseum and a little park where you can chill and have a picnic. We went on a last-minute trip to Amsterdam and were lucky enough to get a free upgrade on our room. The hotel is a little bit out of the way of central Amsterdam, but the trams are quick and reliable so this isn't really an issue - unless you stay out after the trams stop running, never fear, there is a night bus! My friends and I liked this hotel. The staff were very friendly and the rooms clean. My bed was very comfortable. There is a safe in the room. Tropen is a good solution if you want to be far from the hustle and bustle and yet close to major city attractions. The hotel has recently been renovated and offers modern rooms with big windows and a nice view over the park or city (if you stay in upper floors). The breakfast is very good for a 3 star hotel, lots of choice both salty and sweet, excellent crunchy croissants, good coffee, decent orange juice.
