Check in was fine and staff helpful, no offer of assisting with bags to the room though. Check out was painfully slow and the front desk team really didn't seem to think that is was an issue. Probably won't return to the hotel any time soon after this rather slack attitude to service.

If you like Art Deco Hotel and to be in the centre of the city but not in crowded place - this is your hotel. Kind reception, tea facilities, big bed, nice view from the windows. The only small problems - trams which are ringing to the cyclists.

We were pleasantly surprised by the American and will make it our home in Amsterdam at all future trips. The location couldn't be beat -- right on the canal 5 minutes from the museums and the 9 Streets. The concierge David and front desk staff went out of their way to be helpful to us every day. Plus, the restaurant where they have a sumptuous breakfast buffet (19 euros that includes unlimited champagne) is one of the grandest salles in Amsterdam. All for less than 200 euros a night!

Spent three nights here and had nothing to complain about, we felt we got value for money. Receptionists were very helpful. We did our research before arriving so had a plan for what we wanted to do, the staff could answer any questions we had. Travelling to and from the airport was easy and took under 30 minutes using the Tram which stopped across the square, (no.s 1,2 and 5 running every couple of minutes) and the train from central station running every 20 minutes. I don't know what some pe... Read more

Hotel - Great looking building at a good location. Outside it appears pompous, inside is rather simple and rooms could be updated. Location - Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Boats stop directly in front (during my stay there happened to be no cruises available at this stop). 30 minute walk to Central Station. Entry / Exit - You will have to carry your luggage up 7 or 8 stairs to get into the hotel lobby from the street. There are multiple entrances but all have stairs and there is NO ... Read more

This hotel is within 10 mins walk of the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum and literally across the side road from a canal boat trip stop. Therefore great location for tourists. Restaurants within walking distance are fairly touristy but Stoop and Stoop is worth trying, see separate reviews. Rooms are adequate if a little dated and poorly lit but staff are on the ball and breakfasts are very good. Lots of shopping nearby, inc Apple Store, and well connected to tram lines. Also a short walk to the ... Read more

Usually I visit a city or region and see a hotel I would rather of stayed at but not this time. I would without doubt reccomend this hotel to anyone. It's within walking distance of all attractions and restaurants. The staff are very helpful and courteous and were awesome. I highly advise the Canal cruise from outside the hotel. I also reccomend a trip to the Pancake Bakery near the Anne Frank house. The museums are all within 20 mins walk.

We stayed here for 2 nights. We had a de-luxe room with two big beds. The room was modern in style and somewhat dark decorated - in contrast to the exterior style of the hotel which is an old building. The bathroom was rather small. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet very good.

Hotel is lovely although room was very dark and we seemed to pay a heavy premium by booking in advance. Hotel is in nice location and reception were really helpful and friendly. However, restaurant was very poor. We decided to eat there as first night in Amsterdam and felt easier - restaurant looks really nice. However, service was dire - took forever to be served, waitress split our wine over the table and instead of apologising just shoved a serviette over the wine spillage, food order was wro...
