The hotel was in a good location. The hotel's website did state that some deluxe rooms are on a split level. Ours was one of them. What we didn't realise was that the stairs to the bedroom would be very steep very narrow steps only attached to the wall with no banister. Just a wobbly handrail on the wall. It made it difficult to go up to the bedroom and quite scary coming down again. We were only there 2 nights. Any longer and I wouldn't have coped. However, the bathroom was lovely. I thought it... It is nice to stay at a hotel that has a history. Breakfast was nice, not a lot of glutenfree products, could have been more that white bread. Room was nice, at least 6 m from the floor to the ceiling. No heating in the bathroom so to shower was a bit cold. If we had knows that in front of the hotel was a construction site, we would have chosen a different hotel, but i am sure it will be nice when it is finished.

The hotel is completing massive renovations which was not mentioned at time of booking. This would have avoided being shocked! First impressions count! Overall clean, tidy room however outer location. Resturant food was average and a little pricey for what we had. Hardly any options compared to the vast range of Food Amsterdam has to offer. Room Air conditioner / heater is very loud and unable to sleep with it on. On the last evening there was no hot water AT ALL. This ruined my stay! We en... Read more

As long as you dont end up in room 240, this is a fairly decent Hotel. However, it is not a 4 star Hotel in my opinion. Facilties is one thing, but Hotel arena lacks the cleanliness you would expect from a 4 star Hotel. The 2 story mezzaine roms are straight forward dangerous with its insecured steep stairs. The bathroom tub solution is another case that underlines that this Hotel is renovated by amatures. The tiling around the bahttub makes most of the water from showering finds its way to the... The hotel took all of our needs into consideration and upgraded us to a lovely top floor suite with stand alone bath. They gave us a free drink on account of the building works, there was free wifi and the room was clean, tidy and with a very comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and very helpful, suggesting lots of places we could visit in our only afternoon. The food/drink in the hotel was delicious.

It would be unfair to give this hotel a bad rating as renovation work was being done at our time of visit. The hotel didn't make us aware of this however it wasnt a problem at all. No noise to wake us up and the entrance was fairly easy to find around the side. Hotel is not particularly close to the main tramlines but is within a 10 minute walking distance. (Note: Worth getting 2 day passes for the trams to make getting about easier). Staff were very friendly and willing to hold bags until check... Read more

Hotel Arena in Amsterdam was the first international hotel I've ever stayed in and the entire experience was very good. After arriving many hours before check-in, the receptionist was an absolute pleasure to deal with and was happy to check me in at 10am instead of 3pm after understanding I had just flown 25 hours from Australia. I was checked into a two level room. Honestly I didn't bother with the second level as the staircase was incredibly narrow and steep and in my delirious jet lagged st... Read more

The actual hotel is a beautiful building in a fairly good location, however the building site next door was a sign of things to come! We arrived unaware of the building site, and to be fair were given a free drinks voucher and told there would be no works on the weekend. However, Saturday morning arrived and there was very definitely work going on, which was not annoying, just disappointing customer service. Our first room was very nice and clean, however the old broken velux windows gave away... Read more

Firstly, yes the Hotel is having a new building, so why should this affect your review? It shouldn't, do you expect them to close the hotel for 2 years while it gets done? The hotel is pretty easy to find, you exit the metro station and turn left then an immediate right then you'll close the canal and turn left and follow the road down and you'll see a sign. The hotel reception is very nice, posh and nice looking reception and the staff are very helpful. I asked for a quiet room and even though... Read more

The location of the hotel is great, I would say near perfect as it is less than 10 minutes by tram but far enough removed from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. I wouldn't think its walking distance but we didn't try. The staff were friendly and we weren't bothered by the construction at all, which we had been a bit worried about. Booked a 'Deluxe' room with breakfast for a much needed 4 day break away and I can honestly say the bed at the hotel was the best I have ever slept in. The hotel is perfectly placed for both underground and tram links in and around Amsterdam yet far enough out of the city for a feeling of peace and tranquillity. Building construction going on, so it was noisy during the day. But we were out most days, so this did not really matter. Also, reduction in price (I think) reflected the building works. We first were given a room that had a bedroom loft upstairs, and this layout is quite silly. Toilet area and area to put suitcases is downstairs on steep steps. So we changed our room. We found the reception area, with its all black theme a little dim but nothing to complain about. We booked the Hotel Arena because it was reasonably priced, well located and had very good reviews. Despite all this, it was a big surprise to discover it was full of history, mixing old and new in very taste and there was Ooster park just next to it. Breakfast was included and it was excellent. We also had meals at the restaurant and they were delicious , the lobby, the bedrooms, are amazing. All in all, a terrific experience! I highly reccomend it!

There definitely is construction going on, entrance is a little odd, and the lobby was so dark and uninviting. Little disappointed in the ambiance. The room was just ok, definitely no room for clothes but 1 little closet, no dresser drawers. Bathroom was not my style, all smoked glass can see in no matter if your in the shower or going to the bathroom, quite ridiculous if you ask me. Nice dinner on a warm summer night on the terrace. What is excellent is the generous set up with the tables spread out on the terrace. Staff very professional and friendly. I had a disappointing minestrone as a starter but my friend's Vitello Tonnato was great, as were the two main courses (Cod and Confit de Canard). When commenting on the Minestrone a professional response and nice gesture made up for the disappointment. Wines are quite pricy but the house wine was nice and affordable.

I'm sure that at one time, this hotel was good. Based on the photos of the renovation, I'm sure that it will be good again. But when we were there, it was not. First, our room was dirty and dated. It wasn't the fault of the housekeeping staff -- I'm sure they did the best they could; the issue was with things like a dingy sofa that you wouldn't want to sit on, or the floor that needed to be pulled up and replaced, or the shower floor that you don't want to use unless you wear sandals.
