The hotel was in a good location. The hotel's website did state that some deluxe rooms are on a split level. Ours was one of them. What we didn't realise was that the stairs to the bedroom would be very steep very narrow steps only attached to the wall with no banister. Just a wobbly handrail on the wall. It made it difficult to go up to the bedroom and quite scary coming down again. We were only there 2 nights. Any longer and I wouldn't have coped. However, the bathroom was lovely. I thought it... It is nice to stay at a hotel that has a history. Breakfast was nice, not a lot of glutenfree products, could have been more that white bread. Room was nice, at least 6 m from the floor to the ceiling. No heating in the bathroom so to shower was a bit cold. If we had knows that in front of the hotel was a construction site, we would have chosen a different hotel, but i am sure it will be nice when it is finished.

The hotel is completing massive renovations which was not mentioned at time of booking. This would have avoided being shocked! First impressions count! Overall clean, tidy room however outer location. Resturant food was average and a little pricey for what we had. Hardly any options compared to the vast range of Food Amsterdam has to offer. As long as you dont end up in room 240, this is a fairly decent Hotel. However, it is not a 4 star Hotel in my opinion. Facilties is one thing, but Hotel arena lacks the cleanliness you would expect from a 4 star Hotel. The 2 story mezzaine roms are straight forward dangerous with its insecured steep stairs. The bathroom tub solution is another case that underlines that this Hotel is renovated by amatures. The tiling around the bahttub makes most of the water from showering finds its way to the... The hotel took all of our needs into consideration and upgraded us to a lovely top floor suite with stand alone bath. They gave us a free drink on account of the building works, there was free wifi and the room was clean, tidy and with a very comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and very helpful, suggesting lots of places we could visit in our only afternoon. The food/drink in the hotel was delicious.

It would be unfair to give this hotel a bad rating as renovation work was being done at our time of visit. The hotel didn't make us aware of this however it wasnt a problem at all. No noise to wake us up and the entrance was fairly easy to find around the side. Hotel is not particularly close to the main tramlines but is within a 10 minute walking distance. Hotel Arena in Amsterdam was the first international hotel I've ever stayed in and the entire experience was very good. After arriving many hours before check-in, the receptionist was an absolute pleasure to deal with and was happy to check me in at 10am instead of 3pm after understanding I had just flown 25 hours from Australia. I was checked into a two level room. Honestly I didn't bother with the second level as the staircase was incredibly narrow and steep and in my delirious jet lagged st... Read more

The actual hotel is a beautiful building in a fairly good location, however the building site next door was a sign of things to come! We arrived unaware of the building site, and to be fair were given a free drinks voucher and told there would be no works on the weekend. However, Saturday morning arrived and there was very definitely work going on, which was not annoying, just disappointing customer service. Firstly, yes the Hotel is having a new building, so why should this affect your review? It shouldn't, do you expect them to close the hotel for 2 years while it gets done? The hotel is pretty easy to find, you exit the metro station and turn left then an immediate right then you'll close the canal and turn left and follow the road down and you'll see a sign. The hotel reception is very nice, posh and nice looking reception and the staff are very helpful. I asked for a quiet room and even though... Read more

I wouldn't think its walking distance but we didn't try. The staff were friendly and we weren't bothered by the construction at all, which we had been a bit worried about. Building construction going on, so it was noisy during the day. But we were out most days, so this did not really matter. Also, reduction in price (I think) reflected the building works. We first were given a room that had a bedroom loft upstairs, and this layout is quite silly. Toilet area and area to put suitcases is downstairs on steep steps. So we changed our room. Usually pretty good at choosing hotels.....still haven't made my mind up about this one! A bit further out of centre than advertised. Some inconvenience with building work, such as no electricity so couldn't check in, have a drink until evening. Rooms clean and staff friendly. Twin beds a bit hit and miss.....mattress toppers kept slipping off and my daughter ended up stuck in the middle. glass en suite cubes quite quirky......not much privacy if not sharing with close family/ friend.

Situated right next door to Oosterpark and within easy walking distance of various tram lines, this hotel is in a great quiet location for a city break to Amsterdam. If you want to be in amongst all the action then this is not for you. There are only a couple of restaurants nearby, otherwise its best to hop on the tram to visit Rembrandt Square. The hotel is actually quiet nice, however we were not informed in advance that constructions are made within the hotel which was a bit of bummer. However, the hotel has a very nice design, the room accommodates you well (it's large, has a nice shower, air condition and additional heating). It is located in a very nice area where a lot of bars and restaurants are that usually locals go to. Since constructions are made, I think that additional features will come. I enjoyed my stay!

We visited this weekend. On arrival don't let the building work put you off. Inside has a gothic feel and well presented. We were greeted by Sanders who was truly superb in spending time with us to planning our assault on Amsterdam. Setting is a little further out than thought but that said the metro is 5mins away and possibly very close to the best bakery I have ever visited. The coffee and pastries were to die for! As other visitors have mentioned, this place is a work in progress. It's an old hospital which is being renovated externally and internally and therefore the entrance to the hotel lacks the wow factor that it will undoubtedly have on completion. However, this only slightly detracts from the beauty of a genuinely stunning historic building. The staircases in the reception area and the back of the building are begging for photos with long frocks and cigarette holders. The bar and restaurant areas ... Read more

This is a weird hotel. It could be okay but it's current management is not good. The lobby is dark and uninviting, purposefully, with black curtains on all walls. Behind the curtains: bugs crawling the walls, according to some in our group. Good food in the restaurant but very poor service. Hotel Arena is currently undergoing renovations which make the partly renovated side of the hotel beautiful, and the bedrooms were also modern. However, the footsteps of builders kept me awake walking around above my room until gone midnight and then woke me up at 7am. As the hotel is a 4* I couldn't help noticing how the bathroom lacked certain things like mini toiletries. The room was comfortable and had good facilities, the walls were just slightly water stained which appeared as dirty.
