My partner and I stayed at Villa Makassar for four nights. The hotel is small but stunning, a beautifully-decorated oasis of tranquility. The staff were attentive and helpful, and assisted with restaurant bookings and advice on where to explore. It was about a 20 min walk from the hotel to the main square, so we didn't need to rely on any transport to get around. The hotel breakfasts were incredible - fresh breads, delicious yoghurt and cheese, with homemade fig preserves. I used the hotel's ... Read more

It doesn't look much from the outside, but inside it is a total oasis of calm, tranquility and total utter luxury. The rooms are beautiful, shaded and very quiet, whilst the roof top sun terrace is the perfect space for a lazy afternoon with a book and a long tall drink. The pool, whilst chilly, is brilliant for cooling off and the food is just incredible. The service is excellent and attentive without being intrusive, and truly nothing is too much trouble. The only slight criticism I could lev... Read more

This boutique Art Deco style hotel is in the old town, about 20 minute walk to the main square and the souks. It's ideally placed for exploring the old narrow streets. If you get lost (like we did), look out for cafe clock. It is just down the same street from there. We loved the fact that the raids are located on unassuming little streets, which hide expansive little gems like this hotel, behind a large door that opens out directly on to the street. The hotel has around 11 rooms, all decorat... Read more

We checked into 2 rooms, one of which was a junior suite. A beautiful place with private spa & jacuzzi areas. Staff were incredibly helpful. They made us feel very welcome. Yusuf deserves a mention as he was extremely charming even when the breakfast area was busy. Would definitely stay there again.

Really like this place. It is located in an area called the Kasbah. It's a bit more updated, and the décor might be described as Morrocan art deco. We got upgraded to the jacuzzi suite. While it was a very nice sentiment, it didn't work out well for us because it had no shower. I'm 6'3 there are not many "comfortable" tubs out there for people my height. Besides the awkward showers/bath experience, we loved this place. Youssef (Maître D') had all the answers and took great care of us every mor... Read more

We stayed 7 nights in this impeccably clean and beautifully decorated Riad where we felt as though it was our own private residence with ample staff. From arrival to departure we were always treated with exquisitely attentive yet discreet care. I'm an avid swimmer and each day I had the pool to myself, followed by late afternoons or early evenings on the roof top deck with a glass of Moroccan rose and olives. After a full day of activities either sight seeing in the Medina or day trips to the ... Read more

Behind those wooden doors is an oasis of calm and tranquility. Beautiful touches of 'Art Deco' styling which is a welcome change from the contemporary look that my partner and I are used to. The junior suite was clean, spacious and very comfortable. We had a wonderful time relaxing on the roof terrace and in the spa. The staff made our stay extra special with their warmth and attentiveness. On the morning of my partners birthday they presented him with a delicious heart shaped chocolate cake. Bi... Read more

I??d seen Villa Makassar featured in a recent Telegraph article of the ?? Top 10: best riad hotels in Marrakech??, so it was great when i discovered they had (affordable) availability for a trip to celebrate my 40th Birthday! It??s in a great location - in the Kasbah quarter, within the walls of the medina - near the Saadian Tombs and the royal palaces (not that you can see much of that besides the outer walls), which allowed us a more authentic experience of Marrakech, rather than being st... I booked this hotel as a surprise to my husband for our wedding anniversary after reading the reviews. We arrived late in the evening and were upgraded to a large suite which was very nice of them. We were shown to our room and it was boiling and had a sewage smell which we told the porter. The air-conditioning did not work and after over an hour of trying to sleep in the room we had to move to another room- this time one with two single beds - hardly ideal for a couple there to celebrate their ... Villa Makassar is a truly magical place. It wraps it's arms around you from the moment you walk through the huge door - a true contrast to what lies outside! The beauty of this place lies in the warmth and welcome of the staff, the calm atmosphere, attention to detail and almost above all, the discretion of the whole place and the people that work in it. They don't enforce themselves on you - no rigid dining times, no fuss, out of sight but always available if you need anything and only too kee... Read more

I booked this riad after reading the reviews on here. The villa is located in the Kasaba area of Marrakech, it's not too far from the hussle and bustle of Jemil al Efna square. We arrived at 11 in the morning as we had a very early flight from Gatwick, the hotel staff were so lovely and welcoming. We were offered breakfast whilst our room was being prepared, this was such a lovely gesture as we had arrived earlier than the check in time. The Riad is very deceiving from the outside but inside ... Read more
