"My wife and I stayed 9 days recently at the hotel Catalonia and were thoroughly satisfied. Since this was our first all inclusive hotel it would be difficult to compare it to others but I think any other hotel would be hard pressed to beat the service and quality we received. We signed up on the hotel's Facebook page prior to leaving and were rewarded when we upgraded to a privileged room with a 25% discount and 2 free t shirts after we arrived. The staff were very helpful as I was trying to learn basic Spanish by correcting my pronunciations. The resort itself is very picturesque and well kept. The only negative thing we found was the rocky and coral areas you find after travelling about ten feet into the water. It is best to wear water shoes! We ended up tipping staff because we wanted to, not because we had to. I am a very good judge of character and believe the staff were so friendly and helpful not because they had to be, but because they wanted to be! One such example was from an employee who was working at a tequila tasting booth one night. When we asked him for a type of tequila called Damiana, he did not have any but offered to buy two bottles for us from a nearby specialty store. We gave him some money and received the tequila the next day, something you do not normally have done for you! n In summary hotel Catalonia uses and promotes itself via of social media which is good business. The staff and beauty of the resort support all the vacationers that stay there. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to all my friends!"

"OMG! I want to say that our stay was awesome. We stayed Nov. 16th thru the 20th. The food wasn't the best because it was different from American food but not all of it was bad. I really enjoyed the Mexican restaurant that had the sombreros. The entire staff was awesome. The only thing that kind ruffled my feathers is the guests thought they owned the little shaded huts if they left their towel there but didn't leave anything else to indicate someone was coming back. I loved the scenery and everything. You all made my 10 year anniversary so awesome. If I found a good enough deal, I will bring my whole family. Thank you so much. Andrea"

"My daughter and I had a lovely time on our holiday, relaxing, great food great staff. My one big complaint was the false advertising in the all inclusive, including everything, only to find upon arrival, that it wasn't all inclusive unless we paid an extra $150. to upgrade. When we chose not to, we were made to feel like second rate guests. Constantly being told that certain things would be extra because we weren't part of the privileged group. To me if the packages are all inclusive, that's what they should be. Add the extra on top from the beginning, instead of making people feel like second class citizens. This being our first all inclusive vacation, we weren't prepared for this type of treatment. The facilities were wonderful, the spa experience was great. The entertainment directors were a lot of fun, and kept us busy, and entertained the whole time with something for everyone.I would recommend your resort to other people, but with a warning to be sure to upgrade, and not be caught like we were"

"I'm including TWO reviews here: BookIt.com/Best Day and Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort. Hope it is helpful!! Resort: Beautiful place. Pretty large, so there is inherently a lot of walking (could be positive or negative depending on your view and where your room is). The pics are pretty darn near what you get with the real thing. We were there in October, they were at 70% capacity, which is pretty high for that time of year, but we never felt crowded. Pools were awesome (though they close kind of early...between 6 and 7??) Staff was awesome, bars were great, drinks were yummy, entertainment was good. Lots of options for food and FREE entertainment (shows, dance club, sports, sports bar, sailing, boating, biking, etc). We don't have kids but it looked like they had really neat things to keep the kids busy. Though, speaking of kids, there weren't a ton running all over the place, so if you're concerned your going to end up at a resort like Disney, don't be. Unless you are 100% anti-kid, you'll probably be perfectly content. Beach was beautiful, but BRING YOUR WATER SHOES. Not all beaches are created equal and this was is a bit rocky. There's a little 'lagoon' on the side with lots of beautiful fish, coral and other sea creatures so BRING YOUR SNORKEL too...it's like going on an excursion, but it's FREE and right there at the resort. Food was delish. I was fine all week, but my other half is a little more sensitive so BRING PEPTO, nothing major though. All-inclusive does mean all-inclusive. You don't have to pay a cent for anything (though tipping is nice). They have some things you CAN pay for if you want, like lobster dinner on the beach, certain wines, etc. but that is definately not required. Also, if you do have to pay anything on the resort, they don't take US dollars and they charge a fee to exchange so BRING PESOS or a CREDIT CARD. I shouldn't even have to say this, but also, BRING SUNSCREEN. A regular bottle of it will cost you about $50 USD at the resort shop, so buy a big bottle at home and then just divide it into several little 3 oz. bottles. Rooms were decent enough, you're hardly in there anyway. One MAJOR difference between this resort and another we stayed at before: the beds. The beds here are SOOOOOO much better. A lot of other resort beds are pretty much just like cardboard boxes with a sheet, these were MUCH better. As far as location, for us anyway, it was a bit far. Meaning it was more than an hour from the Cancun airport and 30 minutes to an hour from every excusion that we did. That means if you're traveling with other visitors, you're the last to be dropped off and the first to be picked up (very early mornings). To put it into perspective: last time we were here, we paid a taxi $6 USD to get to Playa del Carmen to shop and then WALKED back to resort (in the Playacar community closer to the airport). This resort is in the Puerto Aventuras community, so we paid $23 to and $23 from Playa del Carmen. On vacation, time is precious and we spent a great deal of time in transport (we did 2 excusions as well, about an hour each way both times, back in the direction of the airport). Again, whether this is a negative or not depends on you and what your priorities are. There are still a ton of other neat little things to discover about the resort that I won't get into because that's half the fun, but I think I've covered all of the things that I would have liked to know. I would definately recommend this resort and would go back for sure. nnNow, on to BookIt.com/Best Day. The booking process was fine I guess. The website is a little annoying because they don't give you flight information so you ultimately have to call a representative. The rep was nice enough if a little less than enthusiastic. She got the job done though. We got to the resort around 11 at night, travel weary from about 9 hours of waiting in airports, running to terminal gates and being stuffed in cars with strangers. At that time the clerk at the front desk asked for a credit card for a $200 'gaurantee' per room (we had two rooms). I wasn't about to fork out more money as my almost $4,000 had already been paid in full to BookIt. I asked why and was told that BookIt (who apparently is notorious for this) hadn't yet paid the resort and they required some money from us. I refused. Ultimately, they said they'd make an exception and give me the night, but would require something tomorrow if it wasn't taken care of. I called BookIt and was on hold for 10 minutes...not a huge deal except for the fact that this cost me an additional $10 because of roaming charges. I never heard anything after that so I guess it was taken care of??? BookIt.com works with Best Day travel who does all of the transportation in Mexico and has a rep at the resort. The next day we went to meet our Best Day rep. He gave us the info we would need for our return home. Again, he was nice enough. He didn't review any excusions with us though, so we were left to kind of tell him what we were wanting to do. Again, depending on your point of view this could be a positive or a negative. We decided that we wanted to do two things: jet ski and horse-back riding. The jet skiing was pretty straight forward, 1 hour for $100. As for the horse-back riding we were told multiple times that we would have 2 1/2 hours ON HORSEBACK (I even wrote it down in my notes), which included running on the beach and then swimming in a cenote. The only thing that irked me on the jet ski trip was that when we got there (Maroma Beach), they charged us another $2 per person for 'water equipment fees'? Hidden fees REALLY tick me off and I wasn't happy that the Best Day rep didn't tell us about this. Money is money, it doesn't matter how much or little or if you charge it all at once or in little increments. They know you're not going to turn around after an hour long car ride and say, no I won't pay the $2...grr. The horse back riding was a little more of an issue. 1) there was NO riding on the beach 2) walking was the fastest you could do, we were told that we could run on the beach...so that was a little underwhelming 3) the ride was MAYBE 1 1/2, MAYBE if I'm being generous. Again, shame on you BookIt/Best Day BUT the guys at Bonanza Ranch totally saved the day by being super awesome. Shout out to Charlie and Raul!!! Oh, and by the way, Raul was totally honest before we started the tour and said that he'd been getting a lot of business from people who were lied to about riding on the beach and wanted everyone to know beforehand that wasn't the case. (Reason being, there are very strict regulations on the beach on account of the sea turtles. Horse hooves dig very deep into the sand to gain traction and they can damage the eggs.) He offered to give anyone their voucher back that wanted it so that they could get a full refund. It was only us and one other girl and, go her!, she took her voucher and left. We were very bummed about the beach, but understood, so we went on the ride because we love horses and it didn't matter too much WHERE we rode. The problem wasn't what we did or didn't do, it was that we were outright lied to about what we were getting for what we paid. Again, they are fairly certain that once you're there, you're not going to turn around so they throw in little things here and there (or exclude certain things) enough to make the sale. Classic bait and switch. I gave our Best Day rep an earfull when we got back. Of the $140, we got a $35 refund. Overall, I guess I'd conclude by saying that BookIt.com definately seems to offer very competitive pricing, but just be aware that it isn't without a little compromise. Again, depends on your priorities if it's worth the hassle. "

"Spent 5 terrific days and 4 nights there, just got back on Friday .. Highly recommend the privilege room upgrade well worth the few extra dollars per night, it allows 1st class service at all of the 8 restaurants with premier seating and service. The Resort is cleaner than Disney World and the staff is Super there, attending all your needs. The food in all the restaurants is high quality, When it says all inclusive it really means all inclusive, you can eat drink all day and night, better than a cruise ship. The room service comes each morning and cleans the room with fresh towels etc, the mini fridge is stocked each day with water, soft drinks and beer, all included no paying for anything. After each morning when the room is attended to, they come back in the evening and turn down your bed and are so creative that each day they make a towel formed animal out of towels and leave it on your bed, Example a dog, elephant etc! The beach is super clean, and all day long employees are picking up any trash left behind. There are 5 pools with swim up bar for your beverage needs, each day from early morning they have pool activities for all ages, evenings live music bands throughout the resort. This truly is a 5 star resort. Recommend buying the transportation shuttle from and to the airport, only a 1 hr transport from airport to hotel. Make sure to change dollars for Pesos, we were there for 5 days and only spent $116.00 for 1200 pesos for all the tipping for these days. Remember that each employee there only makes $5 per day pay and if you tip then 20 pesos its $2 American money for each service they provide. All I can say best trip of our lives, highly recommend this resort, and we look forward to going back soon."
