"My stay at Akumal Beach was extremly pleasant. They did not have many activities however the snorkeling was excellent. Sea turtles feeding on the Seaweed live and in person was amazing. make sure that you go with a guide or someone who knows where to go. the reef can be overwhelming and easy to get scared in. this is a great place to go for a few days just to relax and get away from the realities of life. I recommend going on one of the Mayan Snorkeling trips as well. great time and well worth the money we spent for it."

"What a fun relaxing enjoyable time. Both of us enjoyed this trip immensely, the beach and snorkeling and small stores were great. We went to a more casual restaurant on Half Moon Bay and had lobster must have been close to 14 oz. it was so good. The beds were real hard so we got a sponge on our bed and it really helped a lot you must ask for them is all, we took our our pillows just put them in a vacuum bag and sucked out the air. Larry sat on them then we zipped them then used a straw to suck out the rest of the air, that way it took very little room in our suitcases. They did not have washcloths so we brought our own. Just do home work, read all the reviews. Rooms were simple no musty smell in our room which was in building 6. Our ocean view was great. A little short on beach chairs but a lot of people put their towels on them and never saw them return till almost evening. But for the most part we usually got a spot. Drinks were fine, food was great in the buffet and there was always something for every one. The turkey was the best we ever had and the alacarte restaurant was great too! Did have one main course there we didn't like so they gave us the other main course and it was great."

"Best beach and snorkeling on the peninsula!. Food not great and worst hotel beds I have ever had. Felt every spring.... No name brand alcohal beside Bacardi and Smirnoff. No whiskey of Bourbon at all. Don't bother with reservation restaurants. Good location and friendly staff. Walk down to cuevos bar and rent a boat for sport fishing, they cook your fish for you and serve you free after you return."

"We booked this property for the snokeling which was grand but the property itself was not what we look for in an all-inclusive property. The grounds and rooms of a property always should be considered a priority in any vacation property. The hotel has great bones but the owners/investors need to regroup here and spend alittle cash and update. Most of the updates needed are a simple fix from nice bedding, interior doors/linens to attractive patio furniture instead of Dollar General products. As far as the only restaurant - its about quality not necessarily quanity like in bigger properties but presentation by a good chef could give this property a whole new face lift including painting the pool area. Get some more help in the snack bar area and you could have a winner here. the staff were
very helpful in assisting us in a upgrade and snorkeling with the sea turtles outside the hotel was incredible. This property seemed to be popular
with country locals."

"My first trip out of my country. I take one vacation a year. I booked Akumal because of the reviews and pictures i saw. I just got married. Figured be a nice place to take my wife, and it was. But if you want coffee in the morning , you must wait untill the main bar opens at 7am. No coffee pot in the room, no microwave. And they offered only one beer of choice, which i did not like. Plus it was warm. The room we had ants all over, the screen for our balcony was broken. The food was ok , they did there best to change up the menu everyday. Akumal does have an awesome beach and ocean view, and if you are into spending your whole day snorkeling ,then this is the place for you. And most of the staff are friendly
PS. the pictures do not look like what i saw when i went there."

"The beach is 100% beautiful!!!! But, that's it.
The beds are VERY uncomfortable. Felt like a box spring. The room really didnt have a working A/C so sleeping on the bed was very hard then add hot to it! The rooms are not well insulated so don't expect to get any quiet time to sleep. You can hear the other 6 rooms shut their doors and the people on the floor above you let their kids run laps in the room.
After snorkeling for hours it would have been wonderful to get some quality rest but that is no going to happen so bring your ambien!!!
The one single bar that I read was open 24 hours isnt. They were not very happy to be working, meaning there was NO conversations or smiles from the staff. They only have the bare bone liquors so don't expect any coconut rum and they only offer 1 kind of beer and it's warm. Yuck
Food was okay. We lived off the cheese pizza and bread a butter. We went to the restaruant because the server was super nice but the food was not that good.
Over all, I will not stay here again...ever... I learned that you can visit the beach at any time so next time we visit River Maya we will stay at an actual Resort and take a taxi to snorkel at Akumal. There is no charge to go to the beach."

"We stayed at this Resort for 7 nights during June 2012. It was our first trip to Mexico. I chose it because of a customer's review detailing amazing snorkeling and the site's info stating it had over a kilometer of beach and was on 118 acres. Overall, we had a great time and it was all that we had hoped for.
We had to upgrade our room after the first night. I DO NOT recommend staying in the standard rooms (buildings 1-4). They are OLD, musty, and there were some kind of tiny ants all over. We had to stay one night because there wasn't availability in another building. I had requested a room with a king bed. There are very few rooms like that available in the standard buildings. After one night, we moved to building 5. We had to pay $20 per person for each night for the upgrade, but it was definitely worth it. That room was newer, very clean, had a new flatscreen tv, nice shower, etc. Once in building 5, we had no other complaints.
If you are looking for a fancy place, don't go to Akumal. It's small, quiet and simple. That's just what we wanted though, so we were fine with one dining room (buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), a side room that took reservations, and a snack bar. There was a cool bar at the end of the resort that was right on the beach. It has swings and tables. The snack bar has lunch (burgers, hot dogs, pizza, fries, chips) and a full bar as well. The main bar is near the dining room. These are all open air (roof but no walls) and they usually had a pleasant breeze. We were always able to find something to eat. We did not get sick from anything. Bottled water is provided in the rooms and then there are water coolers on each floor in the buildings to refill bottles.
My one daily complaint was that I almost fell down each time I had to walk to the dining room or down the halls of our building. The tile is very slick when wet. I was not wearing fancy heels, but my flip flops and wedges were unsafe. This is because we had a lot of rain while we were there. I would definitely caution women when packing.
Internet-I misread and thought wireless was available in the rooms. It's available, for an additional fee, but only works near the main building/bar area. We chose to skip that and just use their free computers to check email when necessary.
Now, here's why I would return tomorrow if I could...
I never expected the snorkeling to be so spectacular! We bought our own gear and brought it with us instead of renting. There are daily groups that are actually brought into an area for snorkeling. We were able to walk out and see more right at the resort than what we saw when we went on a sailing trip to Tulum and went into the national park's snorkeling area. We usually saw 3-4 sea turtles each time we went in the water. You could actually see them while you laid on the beach. There were chairs in the sun, under palms, and under plenty of palapas (little grass huts for shade). There are also turtle nests all over the beach. They came up each night and laid eggs and the resort's workers monitored them to make sure they weren't disturbed. You could sign up to go watch them come up on the beach as well.
The staff is very friendly and spoke English well. We also booked 2 additional day trips through Best Day during our stay. The resort also has a little office where you can book trips.
We saw a few things as negatives, but overall, we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing stay with great snorkeling."

"Akumal Beach Resort is unpretentious and laid back. A GREAT place for families but also a good place for adults. The beach is among the best anywhere. The snorkeling is fantastic. The food is basic and plentiful, we didn't have a bad meal the entire time we were there. The staff was friendly and efficient. The rooms are basic and clean. The air conditioning worked well. There was plenty of hot water for showers. IT's just a short walk down the beach into Akumal village and the small shopping area. The all inclusive was really a great value. We will go back again and again and again."

"Booked 2 rooms. 1 for my wife and I for our 10 year anniversary and a room for a friend couple of ours. rooms are very simple. Beds are super hard (we requested mattress pads, which we had to request several days before we arrived and were on our beds when we arrived) without them, the beds would have been unusable. The AC didn't work very well in our room. The AC in our friends room kept their room chilly. There are no dressers so your clothes must be left in your suitcase, which sucks. The food was awful. Now I'm an admitted foodie so my expectations are high, we found it better to go spend more money buying food elsewhere then eat at ABR. As much as I tried to catch a buzz, it was not possible as the drinks were so watered down (one evening my buddy and I ordered over 20 drinks then gave up since we just ended up going to the bathroom every 20 minutes).
Not to be a Debbie downer, the staff was terrific. The entertainment staff were amazing. The snorkeling is incredible, we saw everything we hoped to. The beach is among the best I have ever been on. The evening shows were highly entertaining.
If your not into drinking and just enjoy eating food because its necessary to sustain life, and are all about amazing snorkeling, this place is for you.
Long story short, I would have paid more for better food and drinks and softer beds. The owners of this place should not be so cheap. The staff is the only reason I gave this resort 3 stars, otherwise it would be a 1."

"The resort is very dated. I knew this upon booking. for the price I could had stayed at the high end all inclusive. We had been to all inclusive's in the riveria maya 4x and my family was disappointed with our choice because of the lack of all the Bling.
There were not many drink options XX beer on tap only and tequilla and rum that I had seen. The buffet was average nothing to write home about but I can say everyone always found something to eat. Bartenders were great very creative with drink options with the lack of alcohol available. (marg's, sexy turtle and funky monkey were the BEST)
The resort lacked in nightly entertainment in comparison to other resorts. Although we did have fun anything is possible with family and good friends.
i believe the best part of this resort is the location with the reef right outside your door and swimming with the turtles. There is only one part of the beach that is not rocky and that is were they bused ppl in for snorkling. Would i ever go back to this resort..probably not likely."

"Place is nice ..beach is wonderful. Food was just ok nothing special. Room was clean. I think a small crab fell out the vent on to my floor because i heard something drop and never got up to see what it was. But saw the crab 15 mins later. I wanted to work out but the 3 pieces of equip they had were broken down and nasty...Bugs scared the heck outta me on the walls at night. i was there 6 days and something in room 650 was biting my legs when i slept. I dont think anything could do that but bed bugs. So i aired my suitcase/ everything i had on the trip out -outside for 2 days when i got home. Bartenders and staff are very nice. couldnt get wifi ANYWHERE but the lobby and bar "

"We loved the ABR but .... when we got there they gave us building 6 which the AC was not working properly and then we had to wait til the next day to get to the building 5 (which we always stay in) the beds are still hard but who stays in the room to sleep alot. I did not like that you have to pay extra for wi-fi (SHOULD NOT HAVE TO) I didn't like that you onloy have until 12 to make reservations at the mex. rest. (food not that good) and there is VERY little DAY entertainment - BRING BACK ALMA.... The staff is as ALWAYS .... GREAT .....rn We love the entertainment kids and the front staff is always so helpful, It was great to see some of the same staff there very refreshing. We would definately go again just because the beach and the water can not get any better in Mexico Riveria for the price - Thank you for our Dive lessons and we will be back soon -rn Possibly need to be pet friendly and would bring in more peoplee and bring back games during day or early evening. rnTransport was a little hugher than we usually pay, and also was not really happy that we changed our reservations from 3 people to 2 and that the hotel did not offer any discount or give us a upgrade (gave us a bottle of champagne which we found that they gave to everyone, and hey the liquor was free so did we really get a upgrade... I don't think so) (I think they should havee given us a refund on our 3rd person who was not able to attend or offered us free wi-fi or a refrig in our room but .... Nothing .. rnok well you get a 5 not for your hospitality but because off your staff and the friends we met - we will come again but maybe not stay here - Thank you for all you do ... rnMy husband the engineer said that they shouuld get routers to bring in free wi-fi if only in the lobby area would be great, and bring in more people."

"I am back to reality at home and wishing for more days at akumal resort.
I found the food quite adequate and healthy. You had a choice of both fish and two kinds of meat at both lunch and dinner daily. Guests brought their thermos bottles to be filled with bar drinks. People from all over including argentina, Italy, Gerrmany, Canada, USA were there for snorkeling, diving and watchiong the turtles. Humidity was high at times and I did see roaches which is natural for the climate. I asked for bug spray and the housekeeping workers sprayed my room daily and this cleareed the problem. Ther staff is outgstandingly politge and helpful. All of the woirkers work hard and long hours and still have the 'It is my plesure' attitude. They found energy after working all day to perform in the shows and entgertainmentg. the pools were very clean. IKt isd location, location, locationsd, right smack on the Carribgean beach. "Cons: Service - mostly sub par, but some of the receptionists are very nice if you ask them explicitly for things to get done. Sometimes you must ask more than once for things to be done Rooms - building 6 and 7 are new buildings but also are the 'upscale' more expensive rooms. The other buildings' rooms have hard beds, old bathrooms, and funky smells with low privacy due to their proximity to the pool, guests, etc Food - breakfast is decent, get your coffee from the bar, not from the cafeteria lunch and dinner are bland, getting a reservation at the on-site restaurant is harder than getting a reservation at the Spotted Pig since you must make a reservation in person between 9 - 12 only, but the guest list fills up before that. Food is not worth it. Pros: Beach - the sand is brilliant white, the water crystal blue and the resort is very uncrowded. Snorkeling - you can rent gear and swim out 50 yards and watch sea turtles gracefully swim around the coral reefs Akumal - the town of Akumal is small but very nice and traditional. The bar Buena Vida, north of the resort ,is a must see. Lol-Ha restaurant is within walking distance and has live jazz and local music and great food. Bananas Flambe are incredible, a must do. Overall: Loved the surrounding area, didn't love the service or the rooms. Paid for all inclusive, but ended up barely using the food and drinks because both were bland. Drinks are not strong."

"Initially we were not happy because we arrived to our room to find two double beds. We went straight to the office to ask for a King bed room. We were told that we have to request that upon booking and that we could pay an extra $20 per person/night. We did not want to do that. The manager called us and asked if we would like to see another room in a very old section of the resort. We went and looked and LOVED the location!! The room was old but who 'stays' in the room anyway? We were right on the beach!!! Very quiet and very private! We had this whole section to ourselves. That section will NOT be there next year! Too bad for us! The staff is very friendly and very personable.!!! Thank You!"

Jeff Schein from Waterbury Center, Vermont
"We just stayed for 8 nights at A.B.R. We knew going into this trip that ABR wasn't like many of the big, fancy AI's closer to Playa Del Carmen but that's exactly what we wanted. We wanted to be a little bit off the 'radar' but not too much. The resort was great. It wasn't excellent but it wasn't poor either. If I had to grade it I'd give it a B- to a solid B. The location is unequalled. Akumal Bay has some of the best snorkeling anywhere in the Mayan Riviera and it's right out your front door. Don't waste your money on a day trip to Xel Ha, the snorkelling is far better at ABR. The Entertainment staff were awesome. They constantly mingle with the guests throughout your stay and it seems as if they know you only a few days into your stay which really adds to the personal touch that ABR offers. A large part of the beach is still heavy with coral so you should find your 'spot' on the beach the first day. Depending on what your fancy is there's something for all. I personally like to swim and snorkel so I tended to get a spot over in front of the snack bar. There's a wide area to enter the water without hurting yourself on the coral. If you're into simply reading, getting sun and quiet time then a spot down the far end of the beach by buildings 6 & 7 is just the place for you. Akumal village is only a 5 minute walk along the beach where there are a bunch of quaint shops offering all kinds of items that are rich in the ancient Mayan culture. If you want a change of pace from the buffet there's the wonderful Lol-Ha restaurant in Akumal village. The food is exquisite. I personally recommend the Ahi Tuna with wasabi and ginger, Mmmmmmm. The only real negative that I can say about the resort is the dinner menu both at the buffet and the reservation-only restaurant. The name currently eludes me. We had ASSUMED that because you need to make reservations at the Italian/Mexican restaurant that it was because it was so good. We couldn't have been more wrong. Take it from us, skip the reservation-only restaurant. The food is absolutely horrid. We tried it twice just to make sure that we didn't hit it on an off night but evidently every night is an off night at that place. The food at the main dinner buffet is a bit better but not much. With the exception of the last night that we were there we were pretty dissapointed with the selections and quality of the food at dinner. Fortunately there's always a pasta bar and pizza offered at the buffet so we tended to keep to that side of the dining room for the 2nd part of our week. On the other hand, the breakfast buffet was excellent. The hot cakes were awesome and you can run around the corner to the main bar and they'll make you up a cappuccino with a shot of kahlua which is wonderful to have with breakfast each day. The other food highlight, are the cheeseburgers, french fries, homemade tortilla chips and pizza served at the snack bar is great. I overheard someone saying that the lunch buffet in the dining room was also very good but we never got over there the entire week. If you love homemade guacamole then go inside the dining room for it. The guacamole that is made at the snack bar isn't as good. We thought the snack bar guac. had way too much onion in it. Just our opinion. The rooms were good. We had a couple of minor issues with our room but the staff jumped on it right away and all was well shortly thereafter. The beds are very firm which is pretty much the norm down there. We've been down to the Mayan Riviera five times, each time at a different place. We've stayed at fancy AI's and rented houses on the beach and that's always how the beds have been. The one thing that I didn't care for were the pillows. They are hard as rocks and it felt as though I were sleeping on a couch pillow each night. The rooms have nice balconies with gorgeous views of the ocean and the sunrise, ahhhhh the sunrises are to die for !! Once you get out of bed and step out onto your balcony to see an Akumal sunrise nothing else will do. Just sayin. The one complaint I have with the room was it's proximity from the main part of the resort. We couldn't have been much further away. The good news is we welcomed the extra excercise to work off hopefully a few of those delicious french fries at the snack bar. Another negative, was there are no mini fridges in the room. That would have been nice to have but it wasn't a show stopper. We'd go back there again without hesitation. If you decide to go I highly recommend using Cancun Valet service to get you back and forth from the airport. They were excellent and they charged $155 dollars round trip for four people. Kind of tough to beat that. Another tip, if you want to go to Playa Del Carmen for the day, ask someone at the hotel about the shared van service that travels up and down the main interstate there. You simply walk right out from the resort to the main drag and wait. Every 15 minutes a van will go by and pick up people and drop you right off in the middle of Playa Del Carmen for $3 u.s. dollars per person or 30 pesos each. Again, tough to beat that. They run all day up until 10:00 pm back and forth between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. Hope this helps. Jeff in Vermont"

"This was the best resort we have stayed at. We have only stayed at the big resorts before, but this was a much nicer experience. Only fault we have is the bug bites that covered my wife and sister - in- laws legs. It would be the only reason we didn't return. The rooms could use an update, but how much time does anyone spend in their room? Staff was amazing, and very helpful with anything we needed. Good entertainment. It will be our first choice for our next Mexican vacation."

"Absolutley superb.
We stayed at Akumal beach resort for 2012 Christmas and New Year. The beaches is one of the best i have ever been to with some of the best snorkelling direct from a beach I have ever experienced. Better than the great barrier reef and others I have been fortunate to view. The staff at the resort were very attentive and cannot fault them at any point for our entire 8 day stay. thank you."

"My family has visited the Mayan Riviera over a half dozen times and we ALWAYS find our way back to the Akumal Beach Resort. It isn't the newest or fanciest hotel down there, but it a perfect match for what my family wants in a vacation. The pool is nice and large, the food is good and the clientele is truly international. But best of all is the beach. I doubt there is a nicer beach anywhere. Akumal bay is full of sea turtles and reef fish, the bay is protected from the wind or big waves and the SAND really is as powdery and white as you hear. There truly is no place like Akumal Beach. A stay at the Akumal Beach Resort is the best way that we have found to really experience and enjoy it."

"The white sand beach was awesome. i walked and walked the beach. We loved the peacefulness. We were there October 8 - l4-12. i wish the room had been larger; but we didn't spend much time in the room, so it was fine.
I would certainly recommend it to a friend if they want a very relaxing laid back time.
i loved seeing the turtles and the nature aspect. We certainly didn't miss the highrises and hustle and bustle. We will be back."

"Best family fly-in vacation ever. The Hotel rooms were basic but just right, airconditioning worked well. Stayed on 3rd floor Building 7, kids had two doubles we had a king. Beautiful view of beach and water. Food was amazing also, good rotation of menu over 7 days. Nightly etertainment alternting from Theater or Bar area. Mexical Culture review Karioki music at Bar. Shorkeling is pretty amazing, bring your own stuff and head out by 9am and see numerous Green and LaugerHeads, Sting Rays and abundent colourful fish on the patch reef and outer barrier. Transport up and down Mexico 307 is easy and cheap. walk to the gate and get a cab to Tulum or Playa, or try the Collectivo Bus. We went to Coba Grand Cenotei, Explor and Excarat allternating days at Beach and touring. Staff was very friendly and genuine. A 5 minute walk up the beach there is a public beach with small shops and stores for souveners diving centre and grocery store. All in it was a great time."

"This is a very quiet resort, if your looking to relax this is the place.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. the rooms are clean but a little out dated but in good condition. There is not a mini fridge in the rooms like most resorts have but it wasn't a big deal, we purchased a small foam cooler at the store in town to keep in the room and the main bar filled it with ice for us as we needed. also no coffee pot in the room but you can rent one for a $30 fee from the front desk. the food was good we only ate the buffet and at the snack bar, they had a good variety of food to choose from and it was always hot and fresh. there are burgers and hot dogs, chips and pizza at the snack bar all day, it was good as well. the drinks were good and all the bar staff were friendly. the snorkeling was excellent. there are so many things to see here, sea turtles, stingrays and a array of brightly decorated fish. for us, the snorkeling was the highlight of this resort."

"On the positive side: beautiful, well kept grounds, wonderful snorkeling, nice variety of food, friendly staff, reasonably priced.
I was most disappointed in the unreliabilty of the. Staff. Good thing we set our cell alarm because we never got a wake up call to make our flight! I asked for new towels because they never dry- on the third day we got ONE for the two of us. One of our friends got Montezuma's revenge so we requested bottled water for him- never got it. Had to drive to Tulum to get bottled water. Room is definitely bare bones and bed is super hard."

"This is no 5 star hotel but it was the best weekend my husband and I have ever had! The beach was never overly crowded and there was always something to do. The staff here was so helpful and fun and made our stay feel very homey."

"My 3rd time to ABR and each time it gets better. Wonderful staff especially the man at the front desk. He took charge of our group when we evacuated for a hurricane, I'm sure it was the first time he was put in that position and did a great job. This is NOT a five star resort just an extremely laid back place, good food, clean and the best snorkeling I've ever done."

"We were here between Oct. 29 - Nov. 5th, 2011. The forecast was grim, just following a hurricane, however the weather was gorgeous, only occasional rain, never trust the weathermen when it comes to Carribean weather. Best value for the money.
Pros: beautiful, white sand beach; no mosquitoes, except for 30 mins at dusk; best snorkeling/diving, turtles, sea rays, barracudas, squids, beautiful coral fish; most rooms located close to amenities; close to best parks, archaeological sites, shopping malls, tourist areas; friendly staff; not overcrowded, peaceful.
Cons: very limited food options - not a problem for us, anyway; Internet access $10/day, $35/week, lobby only; average entertainment, but enthusiastic team.
Hints: rent a car, we rented from Easyway, you pay nothing over the reservation price; bring snorkeling equipment, underwater camera kit."

"My husband and I traveled to Akumal in October 2011. We had been to 3 resorts in Mexico between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen over the past 5 years. Akumal Beach Resort has the best beach and onsite snorkeling by far! It is private, quiet and very low key. However, the rooms are dated, the beds are horrible--like sleeping on a board. Also, the food options were lacking. Neither my husband or I are food snobs but out of all the resorts we have stayed at the food here was the worst. Limited selection, poor presentation and taste. It looked as if the pasta had been sitting out for hours. They boasted variety but we saw they same thing on the buffet day after day. I can say the drinks were delicious, they did have a full bar at both the main bar and beach bars. The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful in helping plan excursions. If you don't care about food or a comfortable bed/room but do want a nice beach and good snorkeling then come to this resort. The pricing for this hotel was similar to other all-inclusive resorts that have much better ammenities and food. I think Akumal Beach Resort can get away with their pricing because of the excellent beach and snorkeling onsite. Even though we had a good time, I don't think we will be staying again. I would rather pay for a snorkeling excusrion and stay somewhere that has good food and beds."

"i stayed in this resort for 10 days long. They have so ,much great food: mexican, italian, north american etc. The building(s) look very nice (like in hawwaii those little wooden houses with palm treeleafs) This resort is perfect if u wanna stay in a very nice relaxed, quiet place. It`s not a luxury hotel but i liked this one better than so many previosly visited 5 stars resorts in mexico. They have a great stuff and the main thing the beach is beautiful!!!!!
Next year i'll be there again that's 4 sure."

"We are definitely going back to Akumal Beach Resort again!!! If you love to snorkle or dive Akumal is the place to go. Every day I saw something new. Where else can you snorkle right off the beach and see sting rays, sea turtles, etc...We loved it!!! They said it was a little smaller than the bigger resorts but we thought the property was actually as big or bigger than most; it just doesn't accommodate a whole lot of people, but that was one of the best parts. We never stood in line for food or drinks, and they were always picking up and cleaning things. The staff were friendly and wanted you to have a good time. I just can't say enough about the resort it was fabulous! Most of the guests we talked to were repeat guest which says a lot about the place. It was also very peaceful because there are no crowds on the beach either...just wonderful!!! "

"Great Vacation - This resort has great snorkeling(included) and beautiful beaches. We were able to swim with Turtles and Manta Rays and were luck yto see them release baby turtles into the ocean. The food was good, the staff were all very friendly and it was very quiet and relaxing. Definitely not a party resort. One downfall was using Pronoturs - We wanted to take a tour of Chitzen Itza but the tour company was horrible. We would not recommend using Pronotours or trying out the time share tour for free stuff. They didn't pick us up for the tour and then when we called they gave us the run around and never called us back. No refund or offer to take us on a different tour. Also, would not take taxis as they are twice as expensive as the little white vans. If you stand out in front of the resort they will stop and drop you off anywhere for a lot cheaper. It is a shared ride service, we went to Tulum Ruins from the resort for 60 pesos (5.50 USD)for 2 people. Bring bug spray - Lots of Mosquitos! Overall great trip and would definitely go again! And"

"Akumal Beach Resort is located on the best beach on the coast. We've stayed at more expensive places only to find out there's no swimming because the sea grass is so thick or the shoreline is rocky. Some resorts drive you to another resort to swim! At ABR you just walk out your door anytime and swim, snorkel or kayak with turtles, fish and beautiful coral. Akumal town is a nice place just a short walk past the end of the resort. The food is good and is different every meal although not the opulent variety each meal of some more expensive resorts.
The concrete beds in Riviera Maya are everywhere. Ask for a bed topper -- it makes all the difference! The rooms are basic -- Building 5 is a little loud with the nighttime entertainment but it is usually 9 - 10:30 or so and you'll probably enjoy sitting out there anyway. Buildings 6 and 7 are the same layout, maybe newer, closer to the beach (but rocky part) but not as central. Maybe quieter during entertainment and pool games than 5. Overall, the place is laid back and has the best location by far.

"Just returned from a week at the Akumal Beach Resort. From check in to check out we loved the resort. We came to relax and spend the week snorkeling and diving and that is exactly what we did. We never left the resort except to walk down beach to dive and to shop. We loved the beach. It was amazing. We were in building 5 and had a great view from our room. We met lots of guests who return year after year. They were all friendly. The staff was wonderful. They knew your name and what you drank. Our room was always cleaned early in day and was spotless. We always found a new towel animal on the bed. At the end of the week it was like leaving friends. Thank you to the management and staff for a great time. We will be back. "

"The beach is the best. The resort 'activity' people were very nice and always trying to have people play volleyball or learn to dance. It was a family feel resort. The food was okay on some days and other days it tasted like cafeteria food. The beds are hard but the rooms were clean. I just wish they prepared Mexican food with a little more 'ole' in their dishes."
