We stayed at Las Palmas for a week. The resort is beautiful, clean and well kept. The staff is excellent. They provide great service and are very helpful. We speak only a little Spanish, but most of the staff speak very good English. Everyone was willing to help us with questions about the resort and about Puerto Vallarta in general. They always helped us find the best way to get where we were going, call taxi's, etc. The activities staff is excellent. Jose and Pablo lead great daily act...
Jose and Pablo lead great daily activities from water aerobics, zumba, black jack, bingo and more. They were so nice and fun. If you stay here, take time to talk with them. Daniel from the conceriage was most helpful. He gave us tips on local things and helped us book our trips at a discount. Again, if you stay here, it is a must that you take time to speak to Daniel. The pools were large and clean. We enjoyed the food. The made to order items were the best and the fruit was very fresh. I will say that some of the items on the regular hot buffet were not always the best, but with all the options, that was not really a problem. The made to order eggs in the morning were great. Also, make sure to try to Mexican coffee during the tea hour. The nightly shows are absolutely worth going to. I read some reviews that said they are all in Spanish, this was not the case when we were there. Jose and Pablo took extra time to do MC in both Spanish and English. At the beginning of each show, they ask where everyone is from. As long as they know they have USA and/or Canadian families in the audience, they will do in both Spanish and English. The bartenders were great, very fast and efficient and made amazing drinks. The store was convenient and very reasonable prices. The parrots were fun too. Now, the not so great, was the actual room. We were not looking for or expecting anything very fancy. The room was very basic, which was fine. The first room we had, the AC stopped working on day 2. We called, and they sent someone up to look at it. By sending someone up, he put his hand in front of the vent, turned the on/off knob 2x and declared it was not working, which we thought was already obvious by the extreme heat in our room. It is frustrating to be out touring all day and come back to a HOT room. It was late and we had to move to another room. The AC worked in this room, but water leaded all over the floor from the AC. We told the front desk and they sent someone to fix, and by fix, he cleaned up the water. I had to go back down the next morning to address to leaking water again. It was very dangerous, as the floor is tile and have a 20 month old baby walking around on a slippery floor. The front desk said again, they would send someone to fix, and if it couldn't be fixed, they would move us to a new room again. I was a bit frustrated by this, as we are on vacation and having to move to a 3rd room would be very time consuming and not relaxing! And I felt like at this point, we should have been offered help moving our things, or some sort of compensation for the trouble. I understand that neither issue was something the hotel could control, but frustrating for us, none the less. He was able to fix so that is was managable for us to keep the water up with towels. My other issue with the room was towels. We had 4 people in our room and we kept having to ask for 2 additional towels each day. The first day we arrived, we had 2 towels. We called the front desk and explained that we had four people and would need 4 towels daily. Also, there were never any wash clothes put in the room, we always had to ask for those, maybe that is not standard in Puerto Vallarta. But after having to request 2 additional towels and 4 wash clothes the first day, I had hoped that when house keeping removed the dirty towels each day, they would replace with the same amount, but this did not happen. Each day, we had to request additional towels and wash clothes. We were given them, but again, this was an inconvenience when you are out touring all day and come back to take a shower and have to hunt down towels and wash clothes. A few other items to note, there is no iron in the room, you have to check one out from the front desk. Also, they give you only 2 bottles of water in the room each day, regardless of how many people are staying, not a big deal as you can get water at the bar. I saw many of the other reviews say the beds were hard, but we found them to be comfortable. They gave us a code for WiFi, but it pretty much never worked. It never worked from our room, a few times it worked for a minute or two in the lobby area. This was not a big deal for us, as we were on vacation and really didn't want to have access to phones, e-mail, but I wanted to mention this, as that may be important to some. The pillows were very flat though. Overall, I gave a 3 because I think the ammenities, activities and staff were a 4/5, but the actual room was a 1/2.
