"We chose this hotel as a recommendation from friends and I would recommend it to anyone! The facility was beautiful!!! Our room was smaller than one that we have staying in before but there was plenty of room for our needs. We were not in the room much. The beach was beautiful and the staff worked hard to keep it clean and neat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We definitely did not go hungry. There was a great variety of food available any time we were looking for food. I would recommend bringing a mug for your drinks as they serve in small glasses. The entertainment staff does a great job also. I would consider going back to this place without hesitation"

"My wife and I just returned from the the Riu Vallarta. It was fantastic . I've never seen a resort that's been this clean . The food was great especially the steak house . Book and early reservation like 6:30 or 7 to enjoy the sunset from the restaurant. Sir Georges was fair but the buffets were always great. We didnt try the asain restaurant The entertainment staff was fantastic, they kept things very interesting. The drinks were very good and the bartenders were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this resort."

"We spent two weeks here, Feb 23 to Mar 9, and overall the resort was very nice. We booked a junior suite and it was as advertised, great ocean view and on the south side of the building so no noise from the night time activities. The food was better than most all inclusive resorts at which we have stayed in the PV area, but it all became more of the same as the days went by. The steak house at the Flamingo is average at best, the Asian restaurant was OK, but the Sir George was great.
The staff were totally awesome, lady at customer service went over and above to get us in to Sir George one night, we received our booking under the door when we got back after a daytrip. Vanessa at the La Plaza bar was super nice and an absolute whirlwind. This is just to name two, but all of the staff were very, very friendly, always had smiles and did whatever they could to help. Thanks!
Not all resorts can be all to everyone, so here are a few minor annoyances.
To make it better, free wifi access in the lobby would be nice for more than 90 minutes, even beach bars in Bucerias have that. Paying for computer time at the sports bar is cheesy, most resorts at this price offer it free. Restocking the fridge in the room is every 2 days, and only 3 beer in the fridge, really? Right above the fridge is a bottle array with tequila etc which we didn't touch. I like to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view it wouldn't hurt to have more than 1 1/2 beer a day to do that.
I would return because of the great staff, and hope that our stay was not indicative of the usual clientele. We found that there was an overload of posers and self absorbed rude guests that were ignorant to the staff. I truly wonder how the staff kept their smiles.
Thanks"

"The over all stay was awesome, very nice room, we had a great view of the ocean, although the bed was hard, we asked for additional foam pad and all they added was blankets under the sheets. The food was all good, wished we could have made reservations at the three restaurants more than 2 days in advance. if you were not there first thing in the morning to book then you would not get one or not at the time you would want. The entertainment staff was so awesome, lots of great times, activities and shows. We would recommend to others and will stay at the Riu Hotels again."

"The room was nice, with a great ocean view. The food was good, and the staff were as good as I've seen anywhere. However, I like hot showers - the one in our room never got warmer than lukewarm. I told the desk, and they said they would send someone up - it never happened. Also, if you like to sleep at night, come during the week. On the weekends the partiers in the patio area and the disco went until 2:30 a.m., and even with the door shut and the a/c on, it was loud. If you want free wifi,, it's only in the lobby and for 90 minutes per day, and is 'limited' - meaning you might be able to check email, but not open any attachments. I wasn't even able to read emails most of the time, nor could I forward.

"Hotel and staff were terrific!! food was ok in buffet lots of choices did notice a strange taste we thought it was the type of oil they used in cooking. The food and presentation in the Stake house was nice but would highly reccomend the Sir George restaurant. Only negative was we went the wrong time of year as it was very hot and humid. Was told the best time to go is in December thru April. July and August are least desireable times probably why it's the cheapest prices for a vacation."

"My now fiancee and I stayed at the Riu Vallarta on the dates of May 24 thru May 29, 2012. We did enjoy ourselves and are overall happy with the experience there were some positives and negatives.
The Positives:
- Most of the staff was very friendly and helpful
- The grounds and facilities were cleaned and maintained very well
- The beaches were great and we could walk miles in both directions without having to stop, go around things, or get hassled by timeshare sales people
- The food was overall very good although you generally get the same breakfast food every morning. Sir George was our favorite specialty restaraunt.
- You can use the Riu Jalisco which have different food choices for some variety.
- The entertainment staff was friendly and they did well getting people involved
- Rooms were cleaned and everything was in working order. The mini bar and fridge were re-stocked every day
- The resort is only about a 15 minute drive from the airport so transportation is quick
The Negatives:
- Lots of locals made for a very crowded bar and pool area. I don't mind crowds but it seems the locals don't have particularly good manners nor do they seem to watch their children closely. They typically cut in front of you in food lines and will take things off the buffet using their hands.
- The bar staff at the pool bar will cater to the locals first before anyone else even after I tipped pretty well. They would give directions to the locals in Spanish to form lines at the bar and then not serve people who werent in the line.
- The equipment was a little out of date and could use some upgrading. i.e. the beach chairs, volleyball net, tennis courts (at the Jalisco)
- Patrons would have to be asked repeatedly for their children to leave the adult pool. They would get out of the water until the lifeguard left and would jump right back in. We saw that some people would offer the lifeguard money so their kids could stay. To the lifeguard's credit he didn't take the money!
- The water in the adult pool could have been filtered better. It was a bit cloudy after several days.
Overall we enjoyed the trip but would read reviews ahead of time for that time of year. The resort is nice but I would have liked to seen less locals.
One last hint: If you are going to attend and there are a lot of locals hit the buffet lines early. We generally ate breakfast before 8 and we were some of the only only people in there. We also ate lunch right around noon and dinner around 6 to 6:30 and again, it wasn't crowded at all. By 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. the buffet lines were very crowded and it was tough to get some of the more popular items."

"We have to upgrade the room to jr. Suite cuz we travel with our son and needed more room. Even that, we didn't get double bed, my son had to sleep on a sofa bed.
The bad: The bed is ok, but it seems like there are something in it that we get very itchy all over the place. The hotel is always so crowded especially in the buffet. The comes out very fast but also gone fast. This hotel has a vast majority of guest from local area. Everyday they bring buses full of people, from cities around Mexico to vacation here. Too noisy at night until about 2:00 am every nite because of party goers come back from discos and screaming in the hallway. The food is not as good as I thought, i was so tired of Mexican food everyday. Pool are a dirty due to the amount of people, I saw poops in both of the pool while I was swimming, disgusting. Towel at the pool was ridiculous, only one towel per person per day, so if you wet your towel in the morning you can't exchange for new towel for your afternoon swim.
The goods: great entertainment team. A lot of different activities to keep everyone entertained. I love the way this hotel locate everything in the plaza like, theater, bar, buffet, gourmet restaurant, disco, live music band, all at the center of the hotel with slot of seatings. Bartenders are excellent and fast especially when tips. Nice beach"

"I was a woman alone on my trip. and this was my first experience in an all inclusive I was really impressed for the value I got for my money The hotel is extremely well kept and almost all the time I was there the staff were in the public places cleaning or doing maintainence . My room overlooked the court yard and from my balcony I had a side view of the Pacific The room was satisfactory and any small problem I had was taken care of immediately. The food ranged from above average to good The was always enough vairety to eat something new daily(I was there for a week) I tried all the specialty restaurants and the quality was a least 1-2 notches up from the buffets There are two pools and they do an excellent job of making sure the kids are in the kid's pool not the adult The ocean area is well kept but there is not alot of shade and you have to keep moving your chair to stay out of the sun The TV is mostly in Spanish but I am sure this is not what your are in Mexico to do June is very hot and humid but I am sure this was why price was so good. This is low season I used the tour operators in the lobby for the 2 tours I took and they were comparable in price to what your would pay on a cruise ship.Taxis from the hotel to Puerto Vallarta are least $25 one way so bear this in mind The staff are friendy and most speak adequate English to communicate what you want The hotel has a PR lady that goes around askeng you if you have any problems or need anything and she even called me in my room to determine if there were any problems They provide nightly entertainment and to my mind this was the weakest point When you come in from the ariport do not let the folks stop you until you get to the transport area they are just trying to sell you something Silver is very expensive in Mexico now and be very careful on what you buy esp from vendors since at least some of it purported to be real siver and it is silver plate in many instances. Alcohol is always available but I did nto see any out of control behavior from others guests in public areas The demographic was mixed when I was there and I do not think any age group would feel uncomfortable I do not have any other all inclusives to compare this one but I do not think you would be disappointed to come to Riu Vallarta"

"Great value, definitely would return. Good food. Could improve on drink quality and offer more variety on beers. We switch over to Riu Pacifc because our friends came down last minute, and that place is part of the Riu family - there are three within 15 walking mins - and Riu Pacific is a bit nicer, more perks - free room service, sometimes champagne, etc. Riu Pacific is more expensive though. As mentioned before, I would definitely return to Riu Vallarta as the quality was good and was good value."

"I enjoyed my stay at the RIU Vallarta. It was the first trip I've done by myself and as a women wanted to make sure I went somewhere I felt safe. I previously stayed at the RIU Santa Fe in Cabo San Lucas and RIU Palace in Puerto Vallarta with family and friends. The staff at Vallarta didn't disappoint, they were friendly and accommodating. It was nice that they had a kid's pool and an adult pool which they monitored. The property's beach access excellent too. I felt like the common areas and my room weren't as clean as they were at the other RIU properties. This hotel felt more like they dealt in volume and would compare it to an overused airport hotel.n I probably will not go back to RIU Vallarta but stay at the RIU Palace or try some place closer to the downtown area. I would recommend the Vallarta property to younger people or those with families that need to stay within a certain price point.n"

"Where do I begin...The hotel is beautiful and well maintained, the staff is constantly cleaning. The Staff from the front desk to the bar, waiters, housekeeping everyone is friendly. The beach and pool activities were great for my 20 & 23 year old. Drinks were flowing, never had any issues with getting drinks. The entertainment crew was wonderful the shows at night were great. (I don't think they sleep)! We only ate at the Flamingo one night and my steak was excellent. We preferred the variety of the buffet, plenty of food choices we were never board with it. We had the best waiter, he was excellent and we made it a point to sit in his section every night. We went into Puerto Vallarta the third day we arrived and the taxi was $24.00 we were dropped off at the Malcon and walked through the city and into the flea markets and shops. We had a great taxi driver Manuel who took us to a cool restaurant called Pepi's in the old part of the city. The food and atmosphere was great. Mariachi band sang Happy Birthday to my daughter. One day we went to Bucieries a small town North of the hotel (take a cab) it was $10,00, it has flea markets and shops and a city square where you can eat and enjoy the Mexican culture. We ate at a great restaurant their also, had great food very reasonable $31.00 for 3 full meals, sodas, and 2 huge mango & passion fruit margaritas. A man in the square will cut a coconut for you to drink the water for $3.00. One suggestion, day one ask for mattress pads and extra pillows they will bring them up right away. Fridge in room was always stocked. We also went to the RIU Jalisco and spent a day at the pool and ate at the buffet for lunch that was nice also. We enjoyed our 8 day 7 night stay very much and would definitely go back. The only problem was that it was so short, wish we could have stayed longer. Sunsets are beautiful.
Just remember 'you make the vacation' take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. I also read them too. We were not disappointed at all."

"The bed is very hard. It is like sleeping on the floor. The only food options for breakfast and lunch are a buffet. The buffet was the same every day for 10 days. The buffet food was terrible. My girlfriend and I are not picky eaters. Six months ago, we stayed at another all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta for 14 nights and loved the food. There is no 24 hour room service. If you want to eat at after 10:30 PM, you can get nachos or a burger from a refrigerator in the sports bar. These burgers are several days old sometimes. The burgers made me and my girlfriend sick one night. The resort is very secluded. It costs 200 pesos roundtrip to go to the closest Walmart. The nightly entertainment is nice. There is live music and a show that usually includes dancing. There is no bar on the beach. If you go to the beach, it is hard to get a drink from the waiters. The swimming pool is very nice. We would not go back because of the poor food quality."

"First impression was great, staff was friendly.Nice rooms and pretty beach. Weather was perfect, not to hot and no rain. You could always get a drink and no lines for buffet. The breakfast buffet was the best. Food overall was average but no seafood. Hot tub with jets in our room did not work and when we called front desk someone came right away and fixed it. We had a junior suite which overlooked the pool and ocean. Not noisy like other reviews have stated. The only negative is that it is 10 miles or so from downtown where all the nightlife was and a cab ride was $25 each way. I would recommend this hotel and for the price you cant go wrong."

"Overall I had a great time, the hotel is on the beach and everything you need is readily available to you. I did the all inclusive and had an incredibly relaxing vacation. The staff was so friendly and helpful, I have rarely felt so appreciated in a hotel. I am a clean freak so to me the hotel was not as clean as I would have liked it. I also found the drinks to be very sweet and none of the juice I had while I was there tasted like juice, it felt watered down and supplemented with sugar, so i stuck to mojitos and those were absolutely delicious! I was looking for a relaxing spring break and this experience did just that! :-)"

"Before we travele, I did a search to see the reviews for this particular Resort and discovered some very negative reviews related to theft, maid issues, etc. therefore I was a bit on guard when we arrived. But after a day or two I discovered these comments were very inaccurate. I did use the safe for our wallets, etc. but I did tend to leave the cell phones on the desk or counter and we never had any problems at all with items being stolen, etc. I found the staff to be very helpful in every way! Tony at the front desk was especially helpful to us so many times!! The Housekeeper almost every day left us a towel animal on our bed! :) The grounds were always clean and were cleaned daily! One evening we seen staff scrubbing around the pool at 10:30pm, wow! Everyone was very pleasant and helpful and NO problems related to theft! So disregard the previous comments about issues wth housekeeping, etc."

"We loved our stay. The hotel is a beautiful place with a wonderful beach on the Pacific Ocean / Sea of Cortez. We have stayed at this resort for six years in a row. The staff and convenience of the location make this the best place to stay in the area. The beds are a little on the firm side but manageable. The buffet restaurant has a good rotation of beef, chicken, pork, and sea food. They also have traditional Mexican favorites as well. The pool with a swim up bar is always full of activity. The entertainment staff make the effort to find something for everyone. From yoga to volleyball and bingo to salsa dancing, they make the effort to have a good time."

"There was 6 of us..3 rooms...we all had a good time. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. Everything was very, very clean..the food was fine. The entertainment was not great..the theatre seating was poor - could not properly see the stage - I would have enjoyed more live singing/bands in the courtyard. Our room was overlooking the courtyard and in the later evening we found it much to noisey but loved the view. The beds left all of us with aches and pains after the first night and we lived in discomfort as a result for the entire vacation. Very poor mattresses. No internet service other than in the lobby and that was tempermental..frustrating. No shuttle service to the town of Puerto Vallarta....bus service with one change or an expensive taxi ride. Again no shuttle service to major excursion activities kick off locations. There did not appear to be any threats to security however, the lack of security was noticeable in its lacking."

The food was very good at the Sir George and the Steak House al la carte resturants. The Asian was not top notch. The buffet was always very good and had a large selection of food to choose from. This is the second year in a row hat w have been to this site and I would return again. We have met many people at the resort on vacaton that are just like us an will keep in touch with them, so it is a great place to make friends also.
I would recomend this hotel but do nt go during college spring vacation time."

"Before my trip it I tried to reach the resort to ask a few questions; no one ever answered on the toll free line and I had to e-mail via their website and Facebook for 5 days before someone got back to me. This left a bad taste in my mouth right away but "

"We stayed here for a family vacation in December. We will not be coming back and we recommend that others find something else! We had a couple of items stolen from our hotel room. Unbelievable! We filed a missing items report with the hotel, but that didn't seem to help. We got the feeling that they turned a blind eye to these things. Please read other reviews, others have had items stolen as well and this hotel does nothing about it! We didn't trust the hotel staff and they ruined our vacation. We shouldn't have had to worry about these things and either should you. It's not worth it, you might have to pay a little bit more, but at least you will have peace of mind.
Pros
-Nice pools/landscaping/beach
-Nightime Entertainment
Cons
-Items stolen from room
-Hard and uncomfortable beds
-WiFi free in lobby for only 90 minutes once a day (if not used continously you have to wait for the next day) and it's very slow
-Food is bland and unappealing; leftovers regularly served for breakfast/lunch/dinner
-Alcoholic drinks are watered down
-Smelly walkways and elevators
-No wheelchair access to walk a stroller down to the beach, pool, and restaurants from the hotel room
-Juice contains enormous amounts of sugar
***Not recommended. Find another hotel!"

"Way to many children and infants, I know it is a family resport but it was all families and so many kids ! They were running around uncontroled and under everyones feet, etc. Crying and screaming I can ndo wihout on my vacations and from now on it will stay at adults only resorts or higher end properties so families will aviod them due to the higher price. Had my phone stolen at the canopy river tour restutrant. Not cool. Zip lining and staff were awesome and it was alot of fun! The resort needs shuttle service to the town of PV so maybe they can work on that for my next trip to PV. I'm going to try the PALACE on my next trip.."

"OMG, way too many children & infants, they were everywhere and under your feet :), this is not a place to stay if you want to relax or to even be in a somewhat adult enviorment. I would say a 3.5 at best. I felt the staff was freindly for the most part, but not all were which took me by surprise because I have vacationed in Mexico many times and everyone has always been extremely frendly? Bartenders were all wonderful. The watiers at the adult pool area did not come up to everyone around the pool just to certain people if you know what I mean? I had plenty of extra dollar bills for tips but the serv ice I felt was lacking but the people who did provide the etra service I had no problem giving them a extra tip.. The beach waiters bringing you drinks were the best & did not ignor anyone. They deserve a 10 for sure. The food was good, but not great. The resturants that you had to make reservations for I thought were good, better than the buffets I thought. I normally prefere not to have maid service in my room during my trips so I normally will put the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on my door, however on the second to last day a maid ignored the RED sign on my door and came and cleaned anyway? Whenever I need towels or anything I would go get them myself, that is what I prefere to do plus I consider myself to be a pretty neat traverler. The rythym of the night tour was excellent as the reviews say. The old town of PV and the tequila factory tour was also great. Went Zip lining (Canopy River) for the first time & that was awesome and the staff assiting you during the tour were wondeful but during the end of the tour my cell pone was stolen, I believe it was at the resturant. I told them at the hotel when we came back and noticed it missing and they called the tour company and no one had found a cell phone? I know for a fact I set it on the table. Why not just turn it in & be honest? I would of given a reward had they done that. The staff on all the tours were great and they made sure we all had fun! When taking a cab make sure you have change because on one of our rides they did not have change for a $20?. Bring small currency with you. The Malecon / boardwalk was great to, best part I thought. Go to the Cheeky Monkey and have all the dollar Margaritas & beers you want :). The staff was great. The sea horse too. There are many cool places to visit on the boardwalk so do notmiss this. Dont forget Senor Frogs too :) The beach was great and you will never have to wait for a chair, the pool, get there early. I did like that they enforecd the rules on the two pools? one is for children only and the other for adults and they were on top of that for sure. I would stay closer to the town of Peurto Vallrta, cans from this resort to town was $23. The nightly hotel entertainment shows were fun to and it showed they worked very hard to please.. This is a very accurate & fair rating."

"I was surprised by the poor quality of the restaurants that required a reservation. Actually the Asian restuarant, Nirvana, was just a buffet and poor quality buffet at that. The everyday dinner buffet at the main restaurant was much better than any of the restaurants that required a reservation anyway. My husband however did eat the sushi on the buffet and was severly sick for two days. I think perhaps it sat out for too long. The activities at the resort were not as fun as others we have been to and the resort was overwhelmed with children. We have two kids ourselves but we went there on our honeymoon was surprised that there were busses of families with kids from newborn to teenage pouring into the resort. The drinks are also very watered down and the soda was always flat. On a positive note the staff was very friendly and the rooms very clean. I do have to say the beds were very uncomfortable. We will not return."

"The food and drinks left a little to be desired. The Steak house was pretty good, but the rest was pretty questionable. The drinks had to be watered down or made very weak on a regular basis. You had to know which bars to go to in order to get a real tasty drink. The beds were firm and when you requested a insert to soften the firmness, they put on a couple of blankets over the matress to reduce the firmness. It was OK for Mexico, but not one I would recommend or return to."

"Our time at the RUI Vallarta was excellent. The value of the trip was outstanding. We had 14 days of pure pampering. The food and drink was excellent, the activities and activity staff could not have been better. Our room was beautiful and the maid service was supreme. The staff was friendly and engaging. This was our second stay at an All-Inclusive in Puerto Vallarta and it was as good or better than the previous different All-Inclusive. Thank you to the staff who were so friendly and bent over backwards to make us comfortable and to meet our every need.
