"We were very satisfied with the Riu Jalisco except:only half the drawers in our room worked, the main wooden door had several cracks in it,the furniture in the sports bar and in the cantina needs replacing.
In regards to food, we would have liked more fresh fish dishes and we did not like the taste of the yogurt.Overall the food was good.
My wife and I liked the ocean, the water was warm and the beach was very nice to walk on.
The room was kept very clean."

"We just returned from our trip and overall it was good. We did however have to wait to switch rooms to the next day as we were not close to my inlaws as we requested. (they never travel). The hotel was beautiful, we spent 10 days at the hotel. We do travel a lot and found this resort a perfect size. Its not as long of a walk to the beach as the pics make it look. The room they moved us too was really nice and a great view very central. Room was great!! Although the drain in the shower does not drain and in no room is there an alarm clock. We asked for a wake up call and the phone only went 'bleep' luckily my husband heard it because we would have slept in and missed our tour, they did however come to the door 1/2 later but we woukd have been late. I found bartender at the swim up bar to be very nice. Ask for his banaa trick, the staff we good but the entertainment at the hotel could be better, and the hotel is lacking the daytime get you involved activities. No tequila volleyball :( and no one keeps score for the water volleyball and just kids play. Volleyball on the beach though. We went with our 2 boys ages 6 and 11 and they loved it, Oh yes and I should mention the pools are all one depth except where the cement chairs are.
They do mention there is free snorkeling lessons and that was a joke as my son did the briefing and my husband told the guy if he likes it he would pay the 40 for the lessons and another couple came and wated their lessons and paid so he just left all the others waiting arooiund with no direction of what was going to happen so we left after another 1/2 hr of waiting. The venders on the beach were good and didnt hassle too much, there is a big tent down by the beach with market stuff in it, make sure you barter to half of what they are asking and no more. As the next guy will accept it for the same thing.
Tours: We only did 2 and I would not suggest the Yelupa tour especially for older folks as we snorkeled and they sat on the boat and we hiked to the water falls through the village and they sat on the beach. By the way this is the only place moonshine is legal and was legalized in 2002. 5X stronger than tequila! You can buy it there..... and some guy put a lizard on my sons shoulder and I took a pic and he said 5.00 dollars! Since when is it 5 bucks! however I would strongly recommend the tour Rythums of the nights. WOW! My husband and I went and it was so awesome and the food was fantastic! They sat the two of us for dinner at a three person table and we asked to move down one level as there was a bunch of 2 person tables on the water as well with no one there and it was no problem.
The food.... was good but the buffet seemed to always be the same so instaed of piling all on your plate, each day have something different and leave the other stuff for the next day, it was busy in there as well but not too bad, the dinner reservations were next to impossible to book. We did book one in 10 days and it was the steakhouse. I recommend the ribs!!!!!! I had chicken and others with us had the ribs and I should of ordered that too!
The beds... ya not the greatest. I ordered a cott to the room and it was comfy way better sleep after 3 days. Hubby and kids slept in the beds.
Overall we would go back the grounds were clean, food was good. Gets a little loud for a few minutes when the disco lets out but I never heard it when sleeping myself....great vacation!!!!"

"This was my second family vacation at the Riu Jalisco. I enjoyed my stay, however, there was a foul smell to certain areas of the hotel. Especially the Hotel Nightclub. The cleaning staff repeatedly left only three clean towels, even after advising front desk that we needed four towels. The food at every restaurant was almost always the same. The restaurant reservations were always booked and it was impossible to reserve. The room did not include a clock, which is quite necessary in my opinion. The entertainment and kids club staff were very friendly and efficient."

"This was the worst vacation I have ever had! I stayed at a RIU Resort last year in Cabo San Lucas and a great experience/ time and wanted to book with the company again. I arrived on Tuesday and was taken up to my room by a Bell Boy who showed us around the room and pretty much waited for a tip ( which is fine, but I felt obligated to tip him to make him leave) Immediately I noticed the room was VERY Hot! I called to call the front desk, but my phone was not working. I went to dinner and came back still Hot. I was so tired from the day I tried to sleep with no luck. The next morning (Wednesday) I met my friends we went to breakfast. We actually had to stand because there was no seats and the severs offered no help. I went on about my day until later that night I tried to take a shower and we had NO WATER! I was completely discussed at this point. No water or A/C! I tried to get my flights change, but it was going to cost me $ 500.00. I decided to stick it out and go to the front desk and ask about the water and A/C. The front desk said the AC would come on at 2:00pm. Fine, I would wait. It came on like the girl said, but was off again by dinner ( 7:45pm). I came in from dinner went to sleep hoping for the night to go by fast so I could leave this Resort. In the Morning I complained again and was given a form to fill out all with NO Apologies! I would like some type of compensation for my Nightmare vacation.

"The whole resort had no A/C for 4 out of the 5 days we were there. There is a kids pool which is great but then where the adult pool is congested with kids. The kids are splashing while we are trying to enjoy the pool, they were even using water guns and they would wet us and our stuff. The buffet restaurants did not have enough seating, you either have to get there right when they open the doors for dinner to get a seat or stand around waiting for people to get up, which would take 20 minutes. There is limited seating also where they have the theater/shows. I would never return."

"This trip was ridiculous from start to finish. The hotel was over crowded and did not cater at all to American tourists. They would not even change American courency! The rooms were full of mosquitos and we did not get the room we requested and had to wait until the second day to switch to a quieter location. The beds were firm, but the pillows were rock hard. The pool was warm and crowded and after the first time using it, my son had a cold sore. Gross! No security or supervision at the pools. We stuck to the beach after this. The entertainment was 80% in Spanish and looked mostly like a Mexican variety TV show that comes on every weekend than something that would actually entertain people of all cultures. The food was ok. Not the best but the buffet, unless you went early, was always crowded and had few clean tables available. Sodas always seemed watered down, and milk was always left out to be served warm. Overall, this vacation seemed a great deal, but upon getting here, we soon realized it was a a great dud. It was also so far from downtwon that a roundtrip cab to go anywhwere was $46! This trip ended up being the worst vacation my son and I have taken and we are frequent travelers. Buyer be weary."

"We stayed for 12 days and overall give this hotel an 8 out of 10. As it was our first trip to Mexico, on a budget and with two kids, my husband and I researched until we found this resort, which had relatively good reviews. AIRPORT TO HOTEL We didn't buy any transfers, but taxied over to hotel. Note: It's crazy once you leave customs at the airport. Timeshare folks are lined up to the exit doors, wanting to 'take' you to your hotel or chat with you about this or that. Say no! Keep walking until you get outside and you'll be hit with a sea of taxi cab drivers. As long as they have a legit badge, it is safe. About 11USD. HOTEL CHECK IN Very wonderful. We had reserved a standard room and the young lady upgraded us to a family suite for the following day, as it was much better, for no charge. Our first room was a good size for a standard room. The bathroom region is an open space with no door and toilet room is separate. Kind of weird, but minor detail. When we finally got into the family suite the next day, it was awesome! Room # 5165, centrally located overlooking the grounds and out towards the ocean. We could hear the waves upon waking up and look out the balcony and people watch. Really great! Con: we had double sinks and one of the sink's had tiny ants crawling out of it every morning. It didn't bother us much as we just washed them away (they were super tiny), but it would have been nice to have that fixed. There was also a weird smell from the toilet room and it seems there was no ventilation. HOTEL STAY The staff are awesome! Really nice people and they knew our names and treated our kids kindly. Available whenever you needed them. We didn't enjoy the restaurant reservation system. It seemed like a disorganized, outdated system and it was always a battle to get a spot. Usually we ended up with a late reservation that started at 9:30 (too late for kids). We found going to the buffet was easier. Wish they had an online reservation system or at least let us reserve a few days out (you can only reserve the day of, sometimes two days out depending on who was working the desk). Food was good, some days better than others. Wish their desserts were better (looked appealing, tasted very 'light' and diet-like). There are two pools, a laid back side and a wilder side. The kids enjoyed swimming with the other kids and we relaxed poolside. The beach is a walk away and wonderful. Not too many vendors walking around and did not push to sell things to you. Very clean pools and staff constantly picked up trash and other items. The spa was excellent. Massage was best we've had. They don't speak english but were very good about reading body language. The kids club is for very young kids (6 and under) My children (8/9) didn't find it too amusing, so that was a downer. The arcade area was nothing but a pool table and a few vintage archade games. Nothing to impressive. And their 24hr 'snack' station was nothing but dried up sandwiches and stale nachos. TRAVELING AROUND PV, Mexico There are a number of third party travel agencies in the lobby. My husband found it safest to buy adventure packages through them. We did the Dolphin Adventures and Las Caletas excursion and paid 400USD than if we were to buy on our own. I didn't really like that, but husband felt it was better that way since it was our first trip and we didn't know what to expect once we left hotel grounds. We took taxis to all of our destinations. Now that I know, I would pre-purchase any excursions at home rather than go with third party. The taxi services are awesome and they are always on stand by in front of the hotel. OTHER NOTES Bring lots of sunscreen!! We ran out of ours and I had to buy from gift shop: 41USD! There is a walmart 5 min away. Taxi over and pick up any gifts, trinkets, key chains, snacks, floaties, etc. It's way cheaper than buying at the beach. They have really cute sundresses at Walmart too. It's too expensive buying from vendors Bring US dollar bills. $1USD is about 11 pesos and is a great tip for servers, cleaning servers, taxis, etc. We brought about 50USD. I would also recommend going to AAA or bank and coverting cash to pesos. All atms there have different fees and some places, like Walmart our debit cards didn't go through, so we used the ATM. IF you love Mexican food, you wont find any at the hotel! Research places in town and plan it out before going out there. Taxi over and have you a nice authentic meal. It'll be worth it! Do not drink the tap water, it is not potable. We were so cautious we brushed our teeth with bottled water (they supple in mini-bar) and showered with our mouths closed. You never know! Overall a great experience and we would definitely go back again considering our budget and the service."

"I would say the vacation highlights were the food was great and the grounds are beautifully kept. The staff make your vacation, they work very hard and are super friendly. The entertainment staff and some of the staff put in very long hours, which may have been why so many were off sick during our stay. The overall stay was very enjoyable and relaxing. We were treated very well by the resort and the staff. The beds and pillows were not very soft or comfortable. There was no steady life guard on duty at the beach, we did see one between the beach and the pool thoughl. The nightly shows repeated every week, we stayed two weeks and got to see them twice. The shows were good though we all thought too many dancing shows. The Micheal Jackson show was very good."

"The entire vacation was very nice. Weather was great and the beach was fantastic! The hotel could use new beds and pillows, most are pretty firm but we had little complaints about everything else. The maids were really friendly and kept the room extremely neat. The kids enjoyed the kid pool with slide and we enjoyed the swim up bar. The food had alot of variety. All in all, a good time for couples and families!"

"We had an enjoyable entire family vacation at the facility. Facility was generally a good value for services rendered. Definitely not as upscale as the two adjacent properties but none the less was still a good investment for the whole. Rooms could stand to be updated a bit; the TV was an antique to use & small for what you see in most hotels. Besides, we were not there to watch TV all day. Weather was great; their beach was A with a lot of activities for the kids both on the beach and off. My grandkids had a ball boogi boarding & grandson now classifies himself as the Bret Favre of boogi boarding. Drinks were plentiful as well as the sunshine. The Easter rush crowd was just coming in as we left and all buffet restaurants were over-capacity. I'm sure the specialty restaurants will be over-booked as well but we were able to get in for two specialty meals. Go to El Panorama in downtown Puerto Vallarta for a great meal and awe-inspiring view & you will forget about not getting reservations on site. It;s well worth it."

"The hotel, staff and service were good for the most part, my biggest complaint was that Tuesday thru Friday they started doing construction right outside our rooms at 8:00 am, we are night owl due to our work shifts....and my son and his girlfriend are due to their age....consequently we did not get good sleeps because of this, we complained to the front desk, they said they weren't supposed to start til 10:00 and they would talk to them...that didn't change anything.....going back to the room for an afternoon nap was also out of the question as the worked til 5;00pm on those 4 days.....so we were very very tired because of this.....also on the Saturday I came back to our room at 11:30am and saw it was clean but no towels, saw the maid and she said they would be right there at 4:30 I called housekeeping for towels at 5:15 I went hunting for them found a maid about 10 min later....they were finally delivered to our rooms at about 5;30.....which made us rushed as we had dinner reservations at 6:30.....so not to sure if I would want to go back there due to the lack of concern when we had complaints....everything was fine as long as there was no problems"

"The Hotel was an excellent experience, good food, very clean and staff are excellent. The only big problem we had was our trip coming back with United, four hours late, missed our Vancouver flight had to stay over in San Francisco overnight and then home a day late. It was actually quite fustrating and tiresome. Bad experience in ending a very nice trip. I would recommed a friend but I would advise them to fly straight through, no stop overs and changing planes."

"Although the hotel is clean and service is great, I was disappointed with my stay at the Riu Jalisco. We were told on check in that the restaurants were full for the next 3 nights. Our visit was only for 3 nights, so we had to eat at the buffet every night. Much of the food on the buffet hot line actually had a chill to it. Sad for a hotel that has 4 restaurants. They only opened 2 of the 4 restaurants. The evening shows were corny, and there wasn't anything to do after 5pm until the shows started at 9:30pm. The gym equipment treadmill was warped and lacked a few small free weights, and no towels available in the entire gym/spa during our workout. The hot tub was hidden behind the spa, so not easily available. Also didn't stock our in-room drinks until we called on day 3.
I will return to the beautiful town of Puerto Vallarta and I will recommend Bookit.com again, but I will only select an all-inclusive hotel that I can be assured that my friends and I can enjoy the restaurants with real service and a menu. I also would look for a place that has an activity calendar with choices."

"Riu Jalisco exceeded my expectations from the start. The staff was very attentive and gracious. The buildings are well maintained and everything is spotlessly clean. Considering how many people the kitchen needs to accommodate, the food was very good and seemingly in endless supply. There is a good size entertainment staff that put on a show every night. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean. They put plastic lined sheets on the bed which were noisy and a bit uncomfortable and the pillows were a little lumpy. We loved this trip and will go back and stay at the Riu Jalisco."

"The first couple of days - the room was very smelly either bleach/clorine-we complained and it was rectified. The pillows not good. Two days in a row in the lounge - the glass not cleaned - there was a film and the next day - there was a staple in the glass. The stay at the hotel was good. The checkout day we had requested a bellboy - no show, phoned them to send one - no show again."

"This hotel was awesome. The people were great and went out of their way to help us. The room were nice, but then again we were only in our room when we were sleeping, otherwise we were out enjoying the beutiful sites of PVR. The beach was great, and Bucerias is only a half hour / forty five minute walk down the beach. The town of PVR was great and not once did we feel unsafe and we didnt stay in the main tourist areas either. BookIt.com hooked us up to a great restaraunt in pieta riyal(sp). The people at Vallarta Adventures were great and I would highly recommend them. Will definitely stay at this hotel again and will do it thru BookIt."

"My overall experience was really good. The hotel and grounds are very beautiful, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The room service needs attention as they are extremely slow but we did get what we requested and with a smile. The check in and out times were different than originally stated. The transportation and tours suggested by bookit.com were terrific. We had a great time on the tequila factory tour and an excellent lunch at the mountain top site. Trip tip: you get a much better deal of pesos to dollars with a credit card. Stay with a group unless you are fluent in spanish and know your way around. I would visit again given the chance."

"Riu Jalisco All Inclusive is an amazing resort! We pulled up in our cab to the front of the hotel and were impressed right away, it was an incredible first impression of such an elegant hotel for a great value! The rooms were decent except for the beds, but the hotel was amazing from the beaches to all the activities my family and I had a blast. The staff was super friendly and the bar tenders made sure you always had drinks. Entertainment is endless at this hotel and needless to say the restaurants were delicious except for the sushi!!! I don't recommend the Asian Infusion restaurant stick to Mexican food it's the best!!! I would definitely be back for more! "

"Hotel lobby looked really nice. Front desk staff were attentive. Food were plenty. When ordering mixed drinks make sure you tell them exactly what you want or they'll give you shelf stuff. Resort staff made it fun - some played dress up. AC went out the day before our check out!!! Thank goodness for the ceiling fan in our room. You can actually hear all the partying outside your room!!! Not so good if you signed up for some outdoor adventure and had to wake up early. We inquired about the city/dinner tour that came with the hotel and was told to talk with Bookit.com rep that was supposed to be in the lobby everyday. Was told later that you must make an appointment with bookit.com beforehand. So, no, we did not get to have the city/dinner tour that was included when I booked our room. "

"My first time in Mexico... and it was AWESOME! This hotel is the best of all I've been too around the world. All inclusive there is great! The variety of food and drinks is amazing! Their chief cooks do a fantastic job: you can all kind of various food, amazingly served. Should you be a vegetarian, sea-food lover, light-eater or anything else- you will find the food for you. The service is great- the staff is very friendly and ready to help anytime. The entertainment team won't keep you bored- there's always something going on. The bartenders will make your night fun with all the crazy funky drinks and shots.
I'll absolutely recommend this hotel to my friends and if I was to go to Puerta Vallarta again- it will be my pick 100%! Loved this place! "
