"This was our first time in Puerto Vallarta and Golden. They were helpful in giving us information about TPV transportation from the airport and to walk through the time share shuffle.
Once we got to the resort it was very confusing. Especially in booking restaurants. On resort restaurants call this number between 8-2. There were 2 restaurants off resort that we went to. Had to book those after noon. Those were very nice to go to.
I did like that we could walk to the grocery store, buy a styrofoam cooler, water and other alcohol. Resort drinks were super sweet. Best thing was top shelf whiskey and coke. Food was average, nothing stellar.
Liked the heated pool. Go out early to reserve your cabana.
It was annoying at a point when on the beach or beach bar with all the vendors that came up to you. Wish that was more controlled.
Staff was okay. Not overly friendly or helpful. For the amount we paid it was fine. You get what you pay for."

"We traveled with two other couples, upon arrival to the GCP no reservations were found for any of us. They were able to find rooms for 2 couples, we ended up being told we would get the honey moon suite at their sister hotel next door for a night and they would have a room ready for us the next day. The room was sooo bad and musty smelling we ended up staying the night on a couch of one of the couples who were celebrating their anniversary! Lucky for us they got a suite, felt bad we imposed on them. Food is so blah - drinks were watered down. Only time we got a buzz on was when we left the hotel and went elsewhere. Once we did get a room the shower had no spray just a single stream of water. Didn't complain though, because we were just happy to have a room. Sheets are not changed the whole week -and they bed was short sheeted about 4 inches from the end of the mattress. (again just glad to have a room) The Sunset Cruise w/Vallarta Adventures was the best! DO NOT GO on the Sea Safari - the horse back riding was anything but fun. The boardwalk was great except on our second trip down there the military police were on every corner. Very intimidating. Met many couples that return year after year, but this was not for us."

"Our vacations are all about GOLF, GOLF, and more GOLF. This is probably the 10 time we have stayed at the GCP. It works very well for us. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The ocean front rooms are large and clean. Under new management, and budget crunch, I can see some changes. Staffing changes in the restaurants are significant. This is the first hotel I have ever booked that actually appreciates return guests by having a name plate on your door, and a gourmet sit down dinner on the beach. The restaurants are good, with a variety of food for every taste, even vegetarian, that changes nightly. We have never had any maintenance problems.
Now about the golf. The walk up rate at the Vista courses are $210.00 US. You are charged $20 to make the reservation from GCP. You are issued a coupon, and at the golf course you are charged cart fee only of $59.50 per person. So golf fee is $80.00. It is worth every penny for a caddie. The rate is $10/per player, however our caddie sometimes saves me twice that in lost balls. LOL! In my opinion, this can't be beat!
This is the first day home from our two week stay at GCP, and I am looking to book Spring Break, then we will return in December for a week. Guess you could say, we love GCP!"

"We were at the GCP for the 1st time the last part of Oct 2012. Our experience was very good, enjoyed the food, ocean, pool and our room had a great view. The staff was always there to help you out if needed. Room service took a little longer but it was very tasty when it did arrive. Like the fact that you could go next door and enjoy all that they had to offer if you wanted. Drinks were top grade, had no problem asking for top shelf.
Only thing we suggest is they close the poo/spal to early, would be nice to get in the spa in the evening and just relax.
We did have to cut our trip short due to a family emergency at home, the hotel was very good and helpful about getting us checked out and on our way home.
We would like to return again and finish our trip.

"My boyfriend and I stayed at GCP 12/12-12/17. Check in was a breeze, the woman at the front desk was very prompt and friendly. The gentleman who did the time-share speech was friendly and did not push us at all (could be due to the fact we're 24, clearly not their target demographic for $$). First thing that happened, the bellhop who took us to our room muttered under his breath and shook his head after I gave him $2 for rolling our two carry-on bags to our room. Maybe I am out of touch, but I felt this wasn't an impossibly low amount? Awkward vibe right off the back.
After we checked into our room (first floor, ocean view) within 10 minutes, the room had flooded due to water seeping in from somewhere(??). I called the front desk and they said they would get a mechanic(?) to come look at it, meanwhile I flagged down some housekeeping staff who grabbed a stack of beach towels and started mopping up our floor. I was pretty upset at this point but we shrugged it off as bad luck and went on with our day. Well unfortunately the same thing happened AGAIN the next day except this time it came from the back of the toilet tank which was gushing water. We had to barricade the floor with towels to prevent the water from ruining our things. I called the front desk and again they promised someone to come. Meanwhile I had to flag down more housekeeping staff and they used buckets to remove water from our room. I was pretty mad and went to the front counter where the manager told me things are often only superficially fixed at this resort....Odd to tell an upset customer that, right? Well he apologized and promised it was a one time thing and if it happened again he would upgrade us to a suite. I explained this was the SECOND day of the two days we had been there that this happened. He said since I did not file a report with the front desk the first day, he would not upgrade us unless it happened again. Huh.
That set the tone for disappointment I think which is unfortunate. I enjoyed the look of the resort otherwise, the room was nice otherwise, the pool and beach area, very beautiful, and lots of places to drink and eat. That being said, the food is mediocre-poor at best and the smallest portions I have ever seen (a shrimp cesar salad was three pieces of romaine wrapped in a slice of cucumber with a single shrimp garnish). We stuck with the buffet most of the time on the family side, which was disappointing to us as we enjoy 'fine' dining at all inclusive resorts. The drinks were fine, but we ordered Jack Daniels and Captain Morgan's rather than their well brands and they usually told us they 'ran out' after two drinks...Then we would see them pour a Jack and Coke for someone else. Also they did not have mint for mojitos 4 of the 6 days we were there. Disappointing....
A final note, we tipped VERY well. We glad-handled everyone, a dollar plus for each round of drinks, $3-5 or more for servers at the buffet, the bell-boys, everyone. And we did so happily. So it was especially disappointing when they 'ran out' of Captain Morgan's yet I could see full bottles behind the bar.
Some perks- like others have said Polly at Paradise is great, and so is Antonia at the pool. The bartender was also amazing and so friendly. These three are the only memorable faces unfortunately.
Another FYI- They told us that you should book reservations before 2pm for the restaurants but you COULD do it later if you like, but the seating times may fill up. We checked in after 2pm the first day and tried to call around 3pm. We were told that it is impossible to try and get a reservation after 2pm, and there was nothing they could do. When we went to the front desk and made a stink about it, suddenly they could seat us at the time we wanted. Which was further disappointing as we were one of three tables in the entire restaurant during that seating time.
Overall- save your money and go somewhere else. I will go back to Dreams in the future, never the Golden Crown Paradise."

"This was our 2nd trip here. They got our room mixed up, but fixed it to our satisfaction. Ate mainly at the main dinning area, service was ok and the food was ok. Went on trips with vallarta adventures, all three were good. The tour guide on the Sierra Madre South trip was one on the best my wife and I have ever had. Wear bug spray!! I really don't know why anyone would complain about this place, its almost the cheapest all inclusive anywhere. To us it was a great value!!"

"We are in our early 60's and stayed for 2 weeks. For the price this was a good deal. Not a 5* resort but we enjoyed every aspect, room acceptable, food in restaurants presented well, nice selections and tasty, pool and beach area clean. Staff was great and the guests were middle class and friendly. No problem with ordering specific label alcohol rather than cheap bar stuff. Did suffer the intestional issue, no idea what caused that."

"The food was terrible the service at the restaurants was also terrible they were very slow and took for ever to refill your drinks while waiting for your food which usually came out cold. you were better off to go up to the bar and get your own refills even if it was just water, we stated asking for a picture of water because it would take so long for a refill. it didn't matter what you ordered they screwed it up or would not bring what you asked for. we tried ordering things that weren't on the menu and they said no. left the resort most nights to go get a decent meal. The food at the sister resort seemed to be better and the service was better also. The bar tenders were very nice and did a great job. the room service food was better than anything you could get at the restaurant and the resturant would not let u order the room service food u had to go back to your room and wait for it. if they said it would take 30 min it would really be an hour before they showed up. we went to Puerto Vallarta 3 years prior and stayed at a different resort that blew this one out of the water. i will not go back to the golden crown."

"There is nothing 'GOLDEN' about this place!! The beaches are terrible and the ocean is muddy looking, nothing like Playa Del Carmen or Cozumel which we have been to twice. The food , well, I have had better, we spent more time in the bathroom lets just leave it at that. If your over 60 and dont mind being treated like crap well go ahead and book a trip here. We are in our 30's, this place looked like a retirement home, a lot of older folks if you will. The alcoholic drinks were terrible, we just stuck to 7-up. This was our honeymoon trip!! To top it all off my wife slipped on a puddle of water and fell down five stairs seriously injuring her bacl. The hotel of course assumed no responsibility for this accident and basically just blew us off by comping us a few days free. We will never visit Puerto Vallarta again or this hotel!! If your going to book a trip to Mexico do not go here, go to Playa Del Carmen, Cancun or Cozumel they are much better, prettier, and the people are much nicer. "

"Upon arriving to the hotel I was given no information about the hotel by the front desk, the only way to get any information was to agree to attend a time share meeting. We didn't, so we were literally hounded every time we left our room and called every morning being solicited for meetings.
The rooms were seriously dated and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. They looked as if they had been surface cleaned regularly, but you could definitely see that they had dirt and dust built up that required a serious clean. Our shower was made for someone who has to be under 6ft not to have to hunch and when we requested a room change (my bf is 6'6) nothing was changed.
The food was horrible, but the staff in the restaurants and bars were nice and helpful. We used our 'dine around town' offer, but the meal options were limited, and the day after we paid (tax, tip, drinks were not included) we were contacted by the credit card company because $1700 of fraudulent charges had been attempted. This was the only time we used the card on the trip, so we know it stemmed from this restaurant. "

"I stayed from the 8th to the 15th inclusive of September 2012, , The staff was excellent the room was Good with a phenominal View. Comments: This was a slow time and so some of the services hours were cut back, but I appreciate the quieter times. The all inclusive food was adequate at best. I was there also to learn about PV and the surrounding areas (Bucerias), and meet with a few real estate agents. I brought both causual and dress attire but no long dress pants . I was not allowed to eat in their 2 more exclusive restaraunts since I didn't have long pants. I spoke with someone asking since it was slow if he could overlook the long pants rule to eat one of my all inclusive dinners in Salvadors for dinner. I guess my custom made dress shirt and $125 dress shorts weren't enough for him to over look the lack of long pants even though it was very slow. I know I should have tipped him but to be honest if the food I was served in their other restaraunts was any indication, I didn't think it was worth it nor was I going to grovel to get his approvall. I had some abslutely wonderfull meals at some of PV''s finest restaraunts without my Dress slacks! I would like to mention a few people bartender, front desk All were Exceptionally niice and accomodating. "

"let me begin by saying that the majority of the staff at this hotel are good at what they do and work hard at pleasing the guests. service at the specialty resteraunts is excellent, at the buffet par, and at the bars and grills par. the front desk staff while helpfull are not the fastest. the maids are thorough on cleaning the rooms. the hotel area was not well cleaned when we arrived the first morning there was still glasses and food from the night before around the pool area until well after 8:00 this improved after an apparent visit from some of the higher management until the weekend neared and then we saw the same lack of concern again.
the general appearance of the hotel and rooms is run down with cracked and peeling paint throughout the facility. there was a gate for access back and forth through the hotels that had rusted completely off at the hinge. the pool had a visible laer of scum and grease along the edge by the hot tub and several dozen missing tiles along with detieriating grout and cement. the room we where assigned had visible mildew throughout the bathroom and was plagued by some type of small bugs (cockroaches?) there was paint smears on the sink and shower tiles.
the food it self was very repetitiave at all of the resteraunts in fact we where told that there was three day cycles of the food. the buffet was nothing special, tacos everyday and at every meal and a very mexican oriented theme every day. the booze was abundant and they do have top shelf domestic brands which was great.
the beach vendors are a major nuisance you can not get away from them and we actually had after being told no thank you say thank you ...thank you for nothing. you can not avoid these people they walk right up to the beach bars and the pool edge they have free reign as long as sand is under their feet. overall i would not go back to the golden crown and or the area i want to relax on vacation not be hounded by vendors and beggars and have a fresh well maintained hotel.

"iIf your're looking for that WOW factor when youarrive on vacation you won't get it here.! The place is very clean and well maintained and all the areas are very nice. Some of the funiture just gives it a dated look. The food was good with the exception of their Japanese restaurant:( Service was pretty good around the pool area and vey good in the main restaurants. We had a great time. Very relaxing and inviting. Our room was large w/a nice balancy w/ an amazing view of the ocean. Not all the room have a frig but if you need one and you can upgrade your room w/one and of course it comes with other upgrades as well. we would definately return. Right next door is the family part of the resort and we could eat in their restaurants as well if you're looking for a place to pring children 3-12 thats the place! they have an amazing water park area for the kids w/their own arcade and special charater dishes for meals. All of this plus additional pools and the beautiful beach right there. Who could ask for more."

"What ever you do. Do not stop in the airport lobby upon arrival if you have pre-arranged transportation. The hotel Is exactly as you see it in the pictures. the lobby, rooms, pool area are clean and for the most part everyone is very friendly. The drinks are high octane & very good, At least they were for my wife and I, I do have some past experiance. The restaurants not so good ! not much of a varity and cold most of the time. The (3) restaurants that needed reseravations have a dress code. Long pants for men. Needless to say I did not have long pants so I cannot comment on their food. Tried Wal Mart for pants, but, if your waist is not the same as your length your out of luck. As for the beach, the water was pretty dirty not the Cribbean Blue , The peddlers were plentyfull but polite. Would we go back again!!!!! NO......"

"Where do I start - wish I red all the reviews before I booked it. We were only one couple to check-in. Two people at the front desk - one at the comp another on a phone. After 5-7 min guy on a phone finaly looked at us and asked our name. He gave us all our keys and cards(still talking on a phone) Than we were directed to next stand to get info on dinning, etc. Next minute guy was trying to sign up us for the club membership. We were so tired after 8 hours on a road and hungry. As soon we said 'No' - he lost his interest without telling us the rest of the dinning options(timing). This was the first turn-off.
All meals a la carte - fine. We wet to get smthg to eat. It was time between lunch and dinner. All they have is a club sandwich. I asked if it with a chichen - 'Yes'. Ok - we got three layers of bread with on slice of cheese and Ham. It took probably 30 min or so to get it.(Than we discovered buffet in the next sister-hotel and were surprised, that no one suggest to go there to eat.) Buffet is a different story. I never saw such a mushy food. Everything was over cooked, triple heated - realy bad. I'm not a picky eater - fresh fruits and veggi will do with peice of chicken.
I dont mind to enjoy my dinner for hour or so but breakfast I like grab an go on with my day. Again a la carte took an hour. So for most our meals we would go to buffet or out in the city. Thanks god for Starbucks - three blocks from there.
This is was a great disappointment in many ways. Internet - not free and not working well. free city tour - OK. Exept winding drive to the lunch location - 45 min. Same way back. Get ready to pay 60 $ for two for lunch.
We could put everything behind and enjoy the beach - no way. It;s dirty, all junk from the river come to the shore. One day we just took taxi to a better beach.
We met several couples from USA - no one were happy.
And what about Yoga, Pilates - blah-blah - do not exist.
All-adults???? - looks like all local teens moved in. May be there adult considered at 16.
Anyway- worst vacation ever, glad it was short. Never write review. This one for people who still considering to go there. Hope they read to the end."

"Our experience at the Golden Crown had its up's and down's.
I'll start with the Up's:
1. The staff is incredibly friendly - We could not have asked for more friendly staff in every part of the resort.
2. The resort was VERY clean - It is an older facility, but it is extremely clean.
3. I would recommend Salvador's for every meal! Other than the sexy coffee in the Paradise restaurant, you will get the best dinner, by far, at Salvador's.
4. Breakfast was very good - especially when they didn't have a buffet. You can actually order anything you want - even if it's not on the menu, but they don't tell you that. We had A LOT of good advice from the regular visitors.
5. The room was definitely decent - It's not a plush room by any means, but the beds were comfortable and everything was very clean and in order every day.
Now for the down's
1. The 'information desk' was NOT where you got information! We read in the reviews not to go there, so thankfully, we were already on guard. Unfortunately, they harass the heck out of you EVERY TIME you walk through the lobby if they didn't catch you on the 1st day. I understand they want to sell time shares, but they REALLY go overboard in the harassment.
(On a side note: When walking through the airport, go STRAIGHT for the TAXI's - Walk through all of the people acting like provide transportation - They are selling timeshares too and are VERY persistent)
2. Our air in the room did not work properly. I requested service 5 of our 8 days - sometimes twice a day, but I finally gave up. It was very disappointing.
3. The drinks were absolutely horrible. NOTHING was good that we ordered except for the bottled water & canned Pepsi products. We tried a variety of drinks that were so bad, we left them on the table. We tried all of the bars and were unable to find a drink that was palatable. We definitely DID NOT get our money's worth for the free drinks. My husband was finally told they had Jack Daniels at Salvador's so he was able to get a decent drink.
4. We upgraded to the Ocean Front room - unfortunately the 3rd floor is directly in line with the tops of the palm trees so our view was obstructed. They also had a couple of parties on the beach - I think they were weddings, but they had bands and loud music playing until midnight. After midnight, the parties continued - the last one sang in unison until 1:30 in the morning. It wasn't the best situation for the guests attempting to sleep. Leaving the door open to get a breeze since our air wasn't working wasn't an option.
General Comments:
1. If you are taking advantage of the golf, MAKE SURE you get your golf coupons before you go golfing. Fortunately we were able to work it out since we went so many days, but some at the course had to pay full fees, which was around $200 each instead of $60 each.
2. Although the beach vendors were everywhere, most were very kind and left you alone when you told them no thanks. There are reps that sell tourist attractions also - We found BIG AL to be incredibly helpful. He gave us great deals and always made sure everything went as planned for each event.
3. Although tips aren't required, if you get good service, tip them. Most of their wages are $5 USD per day. Make sure you take 3 times the amount of 1's that you think is necessary. A good rule of thumb we were given was $1 per day for the cleaning staff, $1 for breakfast, $2 for lunch & $5 for dinner. It worked well for us.
Overall:
We haven't formed an opinion if we would go back to the Golden Crown or not. We definitely did not utilize enough of the all-inclusive services, but bottom line, it was around $100 per day. That's an average price you would pay for a good hotel room without any food or drink options. It was centrally located with lots of businesses around it.
Well, that's all folks! I hope this helps!"

"umm where do I start? Anyhow resort was nice the food was average at best ok but nothing really tasted good was all kinda bland. The pirate ship cruise was the best part of our trip definelty worth 72$ for like a 4 hr cruise with the ships crew putting on a amazing sword fighting show also had a really good chick cordon bleu dinner. Drinks were ok small cups and the rainy season started the third day we were their poured every evening so got like 2 days of sun. No tan people dont even believe we went to Mex. Oh well still better than a week of work but not what we expected. You hear about the beutifull beaches and warm clear ocean but hardly anyone goes on the beach because you get hassled so much to buy crap. "

"We just returned yesterday from a week at the Golden Crown Pardise in Puerto Vallarta and let me tell you it was the best. great staff, house keeping was also great, all the resturants and bars were great. My only complant is that the 2 elevators in the wing we stayed in broke down. But the got 1 of them running in several hours. I understand the things like that happen and it was not a problem for us anyway. But overall I have no complants and I would return in a heart beat. Also it in a great location short cab ride to downtown walking to Walmart and the Casino's, lots of shops near by."

"Well I booked this vacation for my husbands' 40th birthday. When we first arrived to the hotel we met a bellboy who was AWESOME!! He was THE nicest person in the entire hotel. We were there for a total of 5 nights and had to ask to have our comforter replaced because we asked that our bedding be replaced and the only thing they did was remove the comforter. When we called the front desk we were told that housekeeping was closed an we would have to wait until tomorrow before anything could happen. My husband was furious and after a hour, they brought the comforter. A dirty one at that. The next day, my husband and I left the room and when we returned after several hours, the room had not been cleaned. We had to call the front desk and ask that someone be sent up to clean our room. The maid that they did send up was very sweet and changed the linen, except the comforter, it had dirt marks on it as well as food stains. When we asked for ice for the bottle water, the man at the front desk gave me a plastic bag that they give you for dirty clothes, and told me that the bar would be able to give me ice in a bag!!! REALLY!! Needless to say this is definelty NOT a 4 star hotel. The one and only thing I enjoyed about this resort was the friendly bell boy. Too bad they all couldn't be like him."

"Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful and fluent in English. The maitre d at the French Restaurant was extremely rude when asked to accomdate 4 extra people at our table. (The restaurant was less than 1/2 full). The reservation system for the dinners is a joke. Nothing is ever 'available' 5 min after they open the bookings and the restaurants were never more than 1/2 full. Food was hit and miss at best. The beer selection was only Tecate. Beach Vendors are overwhelming. You are hit literally once a minute all day all night. The offsite restaurant Si Senor was excellent and should be a model for this resort for service. Everything is clean but heavily used and dated."

"Never travel here with a Group. They run you around in circles to make dinner reservations at which point you just give up and eat at the only one they will book you at. Apparently our reservation was canceled so they upgraded us to the honeymoon suite. If I had actually booked the honeymoon suite, I would have been severely disappointed!! Will not be making a return visit."

"Just returned and it was wonderful! I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews on this site and others. Well lets clear a few things up: Rule #1 This is an all- inclusive resort in Mexico it has a lot to offer at a very good price. It also does not cost $549 a night, cheese burgers are not $12 and a beer is not $7 ! If that is your style (and budget) this resort may not be the place for you. That said, this is an awesome place!!! The entire facility is SPOTLESS! The staff works extremely hard and are friendly and will do everything they can to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Yes, they have some cheap local booze, BUT, they also have Absolute, Bacardi, and some decent Tequilla, ASK FOR IT! The specialty restaurants are quite good! Had some decent fillets, ect. and the menus change daily, so get a reservation and enjoy. AGAIN: This is Mexico and see Rule #1!! Take advantage of the sister resort next door! The jaccuzi bar is great and La Piazza has good Italian food. Yes, there are many beach vendors. A simple no gracious and they move along. Overall, for Mexico this is a solid 4 star resort. It is NOT 4 stars comparing to U. S. 4 star resorts. Again SEE RULE #1 I would highly recommend this resort for a great trip to Puerto Vallarta. Go to Mexico knowing you are going to Mexico and you will have a great time. Don't be a snobby American that thinks the world should do everything the way we do things! ENJOY, this is a great place!!!!"

"This is our 3rd time at this resort and we will be back. There were a few changes that we were not real happy with. The first being the beer selection. My husband very much liked the Indio beer. In our past travels there were no problems but this year they were out of it most of the time. Also the Monday - Wednesday - Friday fish soups and salads they had in the past were exceptional. They did not have that this time. I know you have some management changes but please don't change to many things as it can be detrimental. Other than that the staff is exceptional and the other food excellent."

"This was our first stay at this resort and it was excellent. The staff was very friendly and the place was spotless. Every employee you saw was always cleaning something or taking care of a customer. The food was also very good, great snacks by the pool and great sit down meals at the restaurants at night. Drinks were a little weak, but if you asked a bartender to make them stronger they always did and never thought twice about it. There were alot of vendors on the beach, but all were very nice and not pushy. If you simply told them you weren't interested they left you alone. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again. Also, great value for the money!"

"The trip and resort were beautiful. We did have plane issues early when an American Airline plane was cancelled after damage due to a storm. As for the resort, I would recommend. Clean, safe, nice people. The beach was beautiful. Too many vendors, but after a while it was easy to get rid of them. Bars were open late, but not as late as you would think, thus you had to look in town for a real active nightlife, but other than that, it was a good time. Food at the reservation restaurants in resort, which come with all inclusvie, Salavatores and Paradise were exquisite. Great dining options and wonderful staff. I traveled to Cozomel last year and this was a much different experience, but still wonderful. The town is bigger and much more commercialized, but downtown was fun, the exursion packages, especially on Las Caletes were wonderful and well worth the money. I would recommend this resort and the city for other travelers. the front staff at the infromation desk at the resort was particularly noteworthy. He is helpful, kind and spoke excellent English, so he help direct us several nights. At the Nitro, which was the club that was open the latest at the resort, we had very nice people with great service. Though some of my friends were wondering about safety, we all left feeling that the trip was safe, staff watched out for any issues of concern and the town is geared to travelers. As for the many trips I take a year, this one was as good as my Cozemel and Bahamas trip and I woudl recommend it. It was fun, safe and plenty of sun and dancing. We will definitely return, probably to this same resort."

We are a family of very serious golfers, so our days go something like this: Eat breakfast Off to Golf Back at the resort for drinks and a light lunch at the Palapa Bar Clean up and dress for dinner Sushi at the palapa bar at 6:00 Dinner at one of the very nice restaurants at the resort After dinner drinks/meet with friends x 10 days. "The service at this hotel is fabulous. Everyone was very friendly, efficient and responsive - the bellhops, restaurant waiters, poolside waiters, maids, concierges, receptionists, etc. We could not ask for better all-around service. There were a number of on-site restaurants to choose from, all with decent food (although usually 'too salty' for my friend), but there wasn't as much Mexican food as we'd expected in the selections, except for breakfast. Most of the lunch and dinner options were North American grub or French and Italian dishes. We could not believe that our all-inclusive food arrangement included free alcohol in the restaurants, poolside bar and club across the street as well! This package also included entertainment at Club Nitro each night. The magic show and dance show were particularly good there. The hotel building is rather old and seemed to have a plumbing problem. We smelled bad odors coming from our sink on three different occasions. When we complained, they did something right away to get rid of the smell, but it would eventually come back. They may need to make a real pipeline change later on. We did not switch rooms despite these occasional odors because we loved being on the top floor, in a suite overlooking the pool and ocean. Overall, it was a very nice experience. We definitely felt that we got a good bargain!"

"We had a great time. No, it is not the most luxurious resort around, but we found it to be great value for the money, and the staff were fantastic. Food was great at the restaurants, and the pork tacos at the pool snack bar are amazing. Yes, you do need to line up early if you want a specific reservation time at a specific restaurant, but if you're not picky about where or when you eat each night, you can usually get in somewhere. Even if absolutely all of the formal restaurants are full, there are still two or three others that don't require a reservation, and still have great food. Plus there's 24-hour room service included in your stay. We would definitely return."

"This is my 6th trip to Puerto Vallarta and I love it. So many people were concerned about safety etc. Puerto Vallarta as you can google is safer than most US cities including our small towns of less than 3000 people. Violent crime rate is ridiculously low. We were nervous because it was just my daughter and I, but to be honest; after the taxi ride to the resort the nervousness was gone and all that mattered was good sun, good people, and good fun. The resort is an economically priced all inclusive and as such you get what you pay for. The excellent staff makes up for the substandard food. Drinks are top shelf and tequilla flowed freely. Lalo at the information desk was terrific about finding out of the ordinary ways to keep guests enjoying their stay. Though most of the food is just ok, and you have to work hard to find Mexican dishes at the restaurants; lunch time by the pool is my favorite. If you just want a cheap getaway in the sun...its safe, clean, and freindly with all the sun and shopping you could dream of with some fun activities on the side. LOVED the Mariachi on the beach at night!"

"HAD A WONDERFUL VACATION IN PEURTO VALLARTA. STAYED 7 DAYS. THE RESORT WAS STANDARD SIZE, SO IT WAS EASY AND ACCESSIBLE TO GET TO ALL AREAS EASILY. ALSO THE RESTAURANTS HAD A FINE MENU FAIR FOR EVERYONE. YOU MADE RESV. BUT THIS WAS HANDLED VIA PHONE AND VERY EASY. THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD. THE BAR CHOICES WERE MINIMAL, MEANING NO PREMIUM BOOZE. LIKE NO GOOD KAHLUHA. WE WOULD RETURN TO THIS DESTINATION. MUCH WAS AVAILABLE IN A WALKING DISTANCE. A SUPER MACADO...GROCERY STORE WAS XCROSS THE STREET. YOU COULD PURCHASE EVERYTHING THERE, LIKE BUDWIESER. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT A COOLER FOR THE ROOM, AND STOCKED HIS BUD-LITE. THE ROOMS DO NOT HAVE REFRIGERATORS, UNTIL YOU UPGRADE TO A JR STE. OR HONEYMOON STE. ON THE BEACH, YOU HAVE EVERY VENDOR ON SITE, TO SELL YOU ANYTHING LIKE CANDY, SHRIMP SKEWERS, JEWELRY, CLOTHING...SUN TAN LOTIONS AND SPRAYS..YOU NAME IT. WE HAD A LOVELY TIME. I WENT FOR R & R, AND MOST DEFINATELY REC'VD THAT. WE ALSO CAME HOME WITH A NICE TAN...WEATHER WAS 84-86 EVERYDAY WITH A BEAUTIFUL BREEZE TO MAKE EVERYTHING PERFECT. I WOULD SUGGEST PURCHASING THE TAXI SERV TO AND FROM THE AIRPORT FROM YOUR TRAVEL AGENT. IT BECOMES A CONVENIENT FEATURE. AT THE AIRPORT YOU ARE MET BY ALL THESE VENDORS THAT WANT TO SELL YOU A TRAVEL PLAN PKG FOR YOUR VACATION. IGNORE THEM ALL. GET OUT OF THE AIRPORT ASAP. GET TO YOUR TAXI, AND TO YOUR HOTEL. YOU HAVE PLENTY OF OPTIONS LATER. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS VACATION PKG."

"This was my first time traveling here and my first vacation with my boyfriend. We found the staff to be very accomidating. The only problem we had was are first day. We had traveled all day to get there and they gave a us a double bed first floor room off the pool. I origianlly booked my vacation with the expectation of having what I paid for; which was a king deluxe ocean view room. The first day was awful; didnt get much sleep and my boyfriend and I slept in one full bed... Needless to say I complained and was the first one on the waiting list to have our room changed. Our room was changed the next day and we got a beautiful king size bed suite, with the view I wanted. Our whole vacation was spent most of the time doing excursion and using Vallarta Adventures which was fabulous. We both were very impessed and pleased with the service. We had a great time, was able to drink, eat, and have fun without any problems. We would definetly recommend this place to other people."

"This was our second trip to PV, and our first stay at GCP. The resort is aging and needs some updates. The room was nice enough, nice amenities, ocean view, balcony with chairs, mostly clean. Floors were always dirty. Had to wear sandals in the room. Ocean view was nice, except the staff starts setting up the bar outside our room at 330 am, and made noise and talked to each other without regard to sleeping guests. We had to get up and shut the door every morning. Bed is hard as a rock and the pillows were terrible and not comfy. Oh, and smoke often drifted in through the door...maybe higher floors would fix that issue. Staff wasnt very eager to help. One day at the pool there were no chairs. I asked two staffers and just got a shrug, one girl said too bad. Liquor wasnt top shelf, or even good brands. No cadillac margaritas at GCP. They try to charge you for extra bottled water. Wifi is expensive. No computers for guests to use. Several of the beach chairs were broken and they were almost always full of sand...just poor maintenance and attention to detail. The food was not very tasty. We tried the upstairs restaurant. They had a crazy little manager running around, lots of empty tables, but unwilling to seat you even a minute before your reservation. Salvadors was ok. The morning breakfast buffet was not good at all. The snack bar by the pool had good tacos, hamburgers and nachos, sometimes pizza. There was no yoga in the morning. Pool games were fun, but only one round of volleyball per day. No beach volleyball. There were clay tennis courts and basketball courts. Saw a few folks playing tennis. Pool table near the pool needs to be replaced...felt even coming up. Got this deal on bookit.com, so we got what we paid for, I guess. Best part of this place is its location. Close to airport, close to town, close to clubs and shopping. Most are close enough to walk."

"Crowd a bit mature in age. This was fine except I think the staff is trained to cater to those less active and less appreciative of a good margarita. Drinks just ok. Still met some nice and fun people around our age give or take 5 years and the seniors were very nice even though they did not party. Service slow and too lax, not friendly and although we were tipping when tips are 'already included,' staff catered to certain clients. Time share sell was hard and staff persistent. Hard to get through the lobby without sales people trampling you. What bothered me most is elevator music at pool side for 8 of the 10 hours in the day. Dulls-ville! Select 2-3 staff members actually nice and had a sense of humor. Food not bad, especially Cristina's tacos by the pool! Beach nice and saw some dolphins and one whale so location ok. Pool too warm most days, Had to be over 100 degrees, but I did prefer that to having it too cold. Super nice early morning and later evening but high noon could have used a couple degrees cooler. I appreciate the expense in heating it though, thanks."

"Shabby - Food very utilitarian Room needed upgradingair conditioning leaking. Lon g lineups to register for specialty restaurants that weren't so special. Attracted people who smoked and drank and found it difficult to ever escape from the smoke around the pool and it wasn't much better on the beach. No Internet Unless willing to pay a fortune and felt like a hostage as every time we asked a question of the staff they wanted to know if you were ready to go for the time share experience . They would not tell us where we could find an Internet ,coffee shop even though we eventually found one next door. "Please read this after you read all the same horrible reviews I did about this location. After booking I started reading reviews and thought 'oh no, what did I do'. I couldn't have been any more impressed. I have traveled to Mexico many times and this resort is as nice as any I have stayed at. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the ocean front room. Worth every penny. All the reviews said that all the rooms smelled smokey. I never smelled any smoke and the food at all the restaurants was good. Some better than others but I cleaned my plate at every meal. It is a fantastic adult get away. No pitter patter of little feet for a few days. No cannon balls splashing you from the pool. I WILL BE RETURNING TO THIS RESORT. I did meet some people who were back for their sixth time. They weren't happy with their room and the manager moved them until they found one they liked. The staff was friendly and excellent. As I told my girlfriend many time while on the trip. Don't forget that you are in Mexico you need to think in Mexican not in Californian."

"After reading many reviews on this, and many other resorts, before choosing Golden Crown Paradise for our stay this past March 7th through the 14th, I thought I would write my own to answer the many questions that I couldn't find answers to as well as include my opinion on things that were already covered on here. First let's begin with location. Location, in my opinion, was very convenient. Right next to the marina made viewing the large cruise ships coming and going very enjoyable. More important though, it is a quick 5 minute walk to any and all excursions that leave via boat. Zip lining, Rhythms of the Night, The Buccaneer Pirate cruise and all beach/island get-a-ways, all leave from this marina and being able to walk to and from saved on cab fare. Walmart, supermarkets and fast food also a quick 10 minute walk from resort. The Malecon (downtown)...less than a 10 minute cab ride ($5.00) from the resort, Romantica Zone (downtown) just a bit further and a $7.00 cab ride. I'll touch on safety, cost, etc. of downtown later. Check in was relatively seamless however guest services staff were neither friendly nor rude, just there, if you know what I mean. Alert...if you have paid for airport transfers to and from the airport, make sure you make your departing pick up arrangements ASAP. We did not and wrongly assumed that there would be someone waiting for us on our day of departure and not only was there not, but no one at the front desk would help us. To the contrary, we were told it was our responsibility to have made the arrangements then rudely brushed off. Next, creature comforts at the resort. Our room was ocean front and for the price difference as opposed to ocean view, we are glad we upgraded. Amazing sunsets and mountain views. Sleeping with the sliding doors open, you could here the surf crashing against the shore like it were right outside your door. Very relaxing for us. Bugs? what bugs? There were none! Our room was on the small side and definitely out dated but clean. Maid service was prompt and kept up our room on a daily basis. Our beds were firm and no soft and plush on any level. I prefer firm so I slept very well. Some might have a hard time, no pun intended. Pillows were half the size of a standard pillow so I just doubled up and I was fine. Sheets were soft and crisp. Air conditioner was old school and a bit noisy but we slept with the sliders open and no air most of the nights anyhow due to the cool nightly temps. Even being, I prefer white noise when I sleep anyhow. Again...just a preference. Shower water pressure was nice but stepping into and out of the shower was a major accident waiting to happen. Seniors or handicap will have great difficulty doing so. Toilet seat was broken off when we checked in but after calling maintenance, was fixed the next day. Pool and beach area..very nice and very easy on the eyes. Definitely in need of some painting and maintenance but only visible if really looking. Infinity pool in the adults only section where we stayed was heated, very large and comfortable and just steps away away from the beach. Plenty of cabanas on the beach but pool cabanas are limited and guests DO place there towels on the chaise lounges VERY early to stake claim. Most mornings I made it down by 7:30/8:00am and most, but not all, were already claimed. Ok...let's get to beach vendors. A nuisance in my opinion, no. Annoyance, yes..a bit. This is simply due to their shear numbers, not so much there aggressiveness. Politely say no and they continue walking. If your eyes are closed, they don't bother you. But again, their numbers are endless and this can be quite annoying to many. Waiter service by the pool and on the beach was spotty. Some days better than others. Staff was definitely limited. Ok, lets move on to food and beverage. This was my third all-inclusive and definitely my last. Food at the buffets was neither great nor bad, just average. Food in the specialty restaurants was pretty much the same food as on the buffet but dressed up and presented on the plate like a gourmet dish. Flavor wise...far from it. Getting reservations in the specialty restaurants was, at times, a hassle but not impossible. Room service was always prompt but food again, mediocre at best. Alcoholic beverages were most certainly lacking on every level. Having bartended through college for many years, I know my liquor and all liquor ordered was so obviously watered down. Toward the middle of my vacation I began ordering 'doubles' and I could still barely taste the liquor in my cocktails. All the juice mixers tasted the same, whether it was cranberry juice, OJ, or pineapple, none were fresh and all tasted like Tang. I must add that my partner and myself each tipped a buck per drink each and every time, and although very polite and gracious to the staff, it didn't seem to affect service or drink quality for the better. The difference in price from an all-inclusive to a non all-inclusive on average is about 500.00 bucks for a 7night/8day package. That is a 1000.00 dollars between two adults which could be spent on drinks and food at any restaurant, bar or eatery one 'chooses.' This to me, sounds much more alluring for my next vacation. Anyhow moving on...Club Nitro, the onsite nightclub at the resort. A complete joke. It is more for putting on shows, which we did not go to so I cannot comment on. As far as for dancing and hanging out, there is absolutely no atmosphere. There are a slew of nightclubs and martini lounges downtown to hang out at that are a must see. Dollars or Pesos? Don't even ask the staff at the resort because it is obvious they are not allowed to give you a truthful answer. We tried. We continued our investigation downtown and low and behold, the Canadian or American dollar is much more appreciated. Trust me, we asked everywhere and the consensus was the same. Safety and quality of downtown was bar none! The Malecon and Romantica zone are must sees. When the sun goes down the city lights up. People everywhere from early 20's right up to 60's and 70's, all taking in the beautiful sights. The locals are extremely friendly, not pushy in any way. The Malecon is a long string of shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs along the ocean, closed to auto traffic now. The romantica zone begins at the end of the Malecon just over a small bridge and was like being in an old European village. Hilly and winding Cobblestone streets lined with shops, cafes, restaurants, martini lounges and bars, block after block, all within the charm and architecture of their original construction. Background...the rising mountains. People everywhere and police in eyesight of every few blocks. Never did we feel uneasy or unsafe. Taxis are also everywhere and very easy to obtain, at any hour. Rates are all standard so you never have to worry about being 'taken for a ride.' Do, however, establish your rate before hand just in case though. For anyone traveling to Puerto Vallarta, if you miss downtown at night, you have done yourself and huge injustice! Excursions...we did Rhythms of the Night, Marieattas Eco tour, the Buccaneer Pirate Nightime cruise and The Outdoor Adventure Canopy Zip line. All were a blast and well worth it. Only one I would change would have been the Mariettas Eco tour. We heard by many, the Las Caletas tour was much better and more to do. So there ya go, hoping my review might help in visiting the beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta! I will be back to visit..just won't be staying at Golden Crown Paradise :("

"I already sent an email yesterday and talk to someone. The hotel was awful, staff at the front desk not helpful at all. Elevator in bad shape, beach chairs in bad shape, room really so so for a 5 stars. Will never recommend that hotel and am not the only one. NOT A FIVE STAR HOTEL"

"We landed late in Mexico and it was great seeing a Bookit staff member holding a sign with our name on it as we missed the taxi and timeshare drama that goes on at the airport. Registered late at the hotel and NEVER ONCE, through our entire stay, had someone at the hotel approach us about a time share--very nice.
The Golden Crown is an All-Adults hotel which has all the necessary amenities, including two great 'formal' restuarants, a couple of small snack bars and a full service open restaurant. An advantage to Golden Crown is that it has a sister hotel, which is attached and it is a family friendly hotel with a lot of great kids running around. You can use the facilities at this hotel for free, thus expanding your dining and drinking options, then pop back to the Golden in just a couple of minutes. The food options at the sister hotel for informal dining are greater and the outdoor bar makes much better drinks.
Previous reviews note that on the beach you will be greeted by many vendors and this is very true. The hotel makes sure they stay on the beach and it is easy to ignore them as they continue to approach you to see their products. We either ignored or simply shook our heads no. The beach is wonderful and the walking is great.
The only downside we experienced is reasonabley priced internet access. To access the internet via hardline, you have to go to the sister hotel and pay $5 u.s. for a half an hour and WIFI you pay $10 an hour in the Golden. We like to stay in touch with our family while on vacation so this was an inconvenience but perhaps a minor downside for many.
The pool, the staff service and the overall health of the facility is great. We didn't rate the Value at a 5 because the package seemed a little higher than usual and I would guess that is because of the increased airline expenses. Staff efficiency we didn't rate as a 5 because we found, on several occasions, the bar staff failed to put alchohol in our drinks, even while we stood and watched them make them. The housekeeping and restuarant staff were EXCELLENT and very friendly. If you visit the Paradise restaurant, ask them to make sexy coffee. It is a fire extravaganza and they do a wonderful job.
We would definitely return in a heartbeat and would recommend to others. A truly great place to stay, beautiful beach view and beach--simply a nice place.

"Solid three 1/2 star resort. Nothing was out of this world fantastic but all was good. Value was exceptional.
Worst part was the sewer smell in the bathroom. Discoverd that if you placed a plastic bag and folded up towel over the metal plate in the floor next to the toilet, the odor disappeared. The staff must be aware of thjis as they never touched that towel on the floor the entire week.
Front desk and room service was slow at times but ok, Got a room switch after two days and the headroom in the shower was much better in the second room.
service at the bars was fine as long as they knew you wanted a drink and not just a place to sit.
Weather was consistantly beautiful. We'll be back."

"1.We paid for transportation from Airport to Hotel no transportation was provided .We where bombared with personal giving away percentages off rides and tours sucking you into a sales presentation about time shares, which turnes into 4 hours of our vacation lost.We talked to one couple who wasted over 6 hours of their day.If you don't know whats going on you get pulled into it.Then you go to the presentation and they become very pushy. They started out wanting $7,000.00 and $300.00 a month for 10 years. Was not a good experience!!!
2. We booked a room with a jazzuici on the balcony and we paid for it.There are only 2 in the whole hotel rooms with jazzuci and were not available for us till a week later. We also expected a bottle of sparkling bottle of wine and fruit plate in the room on arrival,it never showed.
3.The people at the hotel spoke very good english, rooms were clean and big, beautiful big private balcony, jazzuci was in the room, not on the balcony which we paid for which we not credited, big marble shower.Room service was fast.
4.Our first experience was not good, you must learn on your own how things work, and this could turn alot of travelers away to other countries or back to the USA to travel.
5.We feel looking back there should have been transportation provided from the airport to the hotel by the HOTEL so your first experience is not a hostel one!!!! (Transportation should be at the airport waiting for you,you have a reservation they know when you are arriving,no excuse for not being there for your customer.Future customers depend how well their vacations go!!! They will do advertisement for you or against you!!!)Don't PROMISE things you are not going to fulfill!!!"

"We always enjoy the resort. However the bar & restaurant staff, except for pool ladies, were not as attentive. The Pub Bar crew was hard to get a drink from & ignored the customers. Talked too much among themselves or just focused on cleaning & shutting down the bar. Service at the pool restaurant was slow & sometimes waited a long time to be waited on when it wasn't busy. Many food or drink requests were forgotten about. Staff seemed to care less this year then past years. Heard this from many people. Need a good manager to keep them moving & accountable. My brother tried to get a different ro because the bath tub ceiling was too low & he hit his head but no one was willing to help him out & make a change. Breakfast in the Paradise Restaurant was substandard & so was service. Time to take a look where the hotel needs to change some things to put it back to where the food & service was in past years."

"The free city tour was not free and was a trip from hell. It wasted 7 hours of one day. There was tons of walking which my wife had great difficulty doing, and we saw things like a mural that interested nobody in the group. It was obvious that someone was getting large kick backs from the amount of time we had to spend in stores where few people wanted to buy anything. The highlight of the tour was the tequila distillary but by this time we were all starving and miles in the bush and were 'forced' to buy a 500 pesos lunch. The guide was poor the trip was long. I do agree with other reviews about the vendors.
ps....the hotel was great and we would come back."

"Overall we had an amazing time. Food was great, Bar service was incredible!! The bartenders were fantastic! Honestly though the beach vendors were insane!! My husband and i on our first day went onto our balcony and the vendors on the beach were trying to get our attention from 7 floors up! We also felt uncomfortable on the beach because IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU SAY NO ONCE OR A HUNDRED TIMES THEY WILL NOT JUST LEAVE YOU ALONE, ONE WILL LEAVE AND THREE WILL SHOW UP. I put that in caps so i could make it very clear. It has nothing to do with the Resort though... All the resort beaches, unless you pay for 'secluded', are going to have them. We didn't feel safe leaving our things by a lounge chair to go swimming in the ocean. Also we did get hit up at the grocery store and it angered me because they act like they are there for 'customer service' but they want you to sign up for stuff. I had to tell some big dude about 20 times that, as amazing as 60% off the Pirate ship tour sounded, if i just went to the breakfast presentation, we were on our honeymoon and JUST WANTED TO RELAX AND DO NOTHING!!! we work very hard and needed a good long rest on the beach... in the pool.... drunk. :) Other than those 2 annoying things, that had nothing to do with this resort, it was AMAZING!!! would def stay again. But i would be A LOT firmer with my NO and NOT INTERESTED Replies.
Our Bookit Guy, that met us at the airport, was amazing and gave us sooo much help with how to handle the Timeshare people. He was informative and gave us the opportunity to book special things with him.... without being pushy. He just simply said, 'I can book any of the excursions you want at a good price, no pressure'"

"We ahd a really nice one week vacation. The food is excellent, the staff is terrific and the pool is great. Yes, the vendors are a pain but that is the way they make their living so you just have to deal with it and many people do buy from them. The one thing that I would change or take with me the next time are the bed pillows....very 'foamy' and hard. The location is great (close to the GOOD mall and Walmart etc. and only a $5 cab ride to the Malecon. I hope we get to go again next year!"

"Too much timeshare sales presentation pressure, only one bottled water per person per day, hard bed and endlessly annoying beach vendors mean I won't be returning. Some of the staff especially in the restaurants and bars were great, but I've stayed in too many way nicer places in Mexico to return to this one."

"If anyone come here and doesn't like it, they are the ones that nobody can please! This place has it all. It's biggest complaint I hear is that the vendors won't leave them alone. All you have to do is say no one time and they are gone! Big deal."

"The Staff was excellent! The food was so so. (It's Mexico. How about some Mexican food?) My biggest complaint is the fact that you could not sit on the beach and relax because there was a constant stream of vendors trying to sell you stuff. I paid a lot of money to take my wife on a romantic and relaxing 2nd honeymoon and was baggered non stop by vendors and time share people. The city tour was nice but again set up to take you places where people were trying to sell you something. I did not take this trip to shop. I can do that at home. We even were hit up by Time sahre people at the grocery store. I will probably never return to Puerto Vallarta."

"The Golden Crown Paradise All Inclusive is a good hotel for the money. It is about a 5 minute walk to the marina so you can catch different boats for tours / activities. The food is alright, they have several nice restaurants, the best of which is the French restaurant as well as the Beach Snack Shack. Most the restaurants are buffet style, drinks aren't that strong so just order two at a time. Also beware of the timeshares / information desk "

"For an adult resort the entertainment was terrible. Disco was not available until 2300hr so not really available as you were either in bed by then or having gone someplace else.
The resort did not have an area roped off from the vendors so you couldn't sit on the beach area without being asked to buy something almost every minute. "

"This year will be our 4th stay at the GCP. We don't even want to try another place because it is always consistant. Service is excellent and the staff is so warm.
And, they remember you from year to year. So many other guests are there yearly so you make friends easily. Each room has an ocean. And if it is a special occasion just let them know and you will get a special treat. Just wish that they would change their menus from year to year. But the food and service is tops, I have always been a picky traveler who wants the best, and I wouldn't trade a thing.
