"Overall, we enjoyed our stay here! The value and location are excellent. Overall the service was fantastic and you can tell they care about their resort.nnOur room was fantastic for sunsets and even watching the moon set in the morning! Be sure to watch for the bats to fly by close to 7:30 every night. Very cool!!nn NOTE: they only have Pepsi. I brought own coke down and they let me use it at the bar. The patio restaurant has great food, great service, and easy access. We ate there the most. nnThe #8 fish sandwich at the beach bar was a great lunch! I loved the bread too. Tip the chef, she was the gem of that little bar area.nnRoom service - FANTASTIC and the food choices are good. Easier than trying to get a reservation at one of the resort restaurants (see negative below). We had breakfast almost every morning on our patio. The buffet was good too though, went there for second breakfast a few times :)nnI recommend going next door to the 'family' side and check out the 'adult only' swim up hot tub. It may make you miss your kids as you walk over there, but the hot tub/pool was very nice and bar tender pleasant too. nnNegatives: nThe beach vendors are VERY annoying. I couldn't read a page without being asked to buy a shirt or necklace. Just know this before you go and be prepared to say 'no thank you' We finally had to resort to ignoring them, until the musicians started to blow their horns directly toward your face about 4 feet away! We had to go to the pool to escape them. Not very relaxing at the beach. Sunday was the worst (their big 'family day' so the beaches are very busy).nnIf you don't get up early and 'claim' a beach chair you may miss out. I think this should be illegal - it's just stupid. If you're not there to enjoy the sun then you don't need the chair. by 10AM all of the cabanas were 'claimed' but only 1/3 of them occupied. I wanted to toss some books off chairs that were 'reserved' but Minnesota nice kicked in.nnThe beach bar had a nice lunch, the chef was all business. The waitress did not appear to be happy to be there or to wait on us for that matter. I had to get my own order that was sitting on the counter and always had to 'interrupt' the bartender to get a drink. 'Yolanda' (or close to that name) was the worst, never even smiled and appeared to stand around for three days straight. When you walk up to the bar you either have to 'speak loudly' to ask for a drink or wave a tip to get your drink. I've been a waitress, I know bad customers and bad service when I see it, she does not like her job or tourists in the least and that made me feel like a bad customer. Not a good thing for a resort. She should be let go.nnThe reservation system is a joke to me. Call by 8am and still end up with an 8pm or later dinner reservation? Then when you get there nearly half of the tables are still open. Call at 8am for dinner reservations for the next night - you may have a better shot at a decent dinner time.nnDon't even ask for wine, just forget about it. Serving cheap white or red wine is a negative to a meal. The French restaurant had the best food - but no wine to compliment it :( Be prepared to drink something else with dinner.nnThe 'activities' workers will blow whistles and hoot and holler to get you to join the events. Don't be alarmed, like I was, if you're snoozing in the sun by the pool and someone starts blowing a whistle. It's not a fire, it's just pool aerobic time or a 'big big beach party fun time' with loud pounding beat music. I didn't want to attend a college spring break party .. but a couple of times I was encouraged to feel like I was. I didn't really like that, but a lot of people seem to.nnWe went to the 'Nitro Club' one night when the bar closed - we never went back but heard they did magic shows of sorts there. We were not interested in this in the least even though the activities coordinators sure made it sound like the place to be.nnFor the value, the location, the cleanliness and the general care of the resort, we would go again. We met great people from all over the place and did enjoyed our time there. We were, of course, escaping winter so it would have been hard to mess that up! nnNOTESnDo the boat tour to Marienetta hidden island, snorkeling and wale watching. It was worth the $80 USD!nnTake the bus (adventure in itself) to the boardwalk and explore the art and shopping at the flea market on 'the island'.nnCheck out the view from the patio at the Panorama Restaurant - for the view, but eat at Si Senor's on the hillside walking back down to town. Holy Cow that was fantastic food and service!! Calamari was the best we've ever had.nnFYI: The coffee shop located just to the right of the resort has free wi fi with a purchase (tea, coffee, other drinks, snacks) - and the music they played in the tree covered patio was calming and quiet. A great place to go to check email, update social media, and get away from the noise.n"

"Not sure where to begin as there is a lot to say. Here are the bullet points; The hotel was nice and a good value for the money. The front desk staff was fantastic, very friendly and helpful. The restaurants were much better than expected and the waiters were fabulous. The beach was surprisingly good. The live entertainment was decent and an unexpected perk. We don't drink but the alcohol flowed freely for those who do. We would go back again for sure. When we arrived OTA had someone waiting with our taxi and all the info we needed about our hotel and the various activities in Puerto Vallarta that we were interested in. He was awesome! He was utterly professional, extremely knowledgeable, and made a marvelous first impression. Listen to him! His tips were spot on and there was a lifetime of good advice and wisdom for anyone who isn't a regular to Mexico. When we got to the hotel the check-in process was easy and since we were tired and dressed for a much colder climate, we wanted to go right to our room to change and relax a little. Be aware that after you check-in there is a (very polite) concierge type person that wants to schedule a tour (time share appointment) with you. Having been to Cancun last year (and having gotten the inside scoop) we were able to politely decline and beg off to our room instead, and for the rest of the week she never mentioned the %u2018tour' again. Throughout the week she did help us with our assorted questions and she gave us good advice that had nothing to do with selling anything. (It's like a script she has to run through with every new arrival and after she is done she can move on.) The room was nice but it smelled kind of funny (combination of old cigarette smoke and mold?) but the view was great. Also they had a bottle of Mexican Champagne and a piece of cake delivered (we had mentioned that this was a combination birthday/anniversary trip) so that was a nice touch. My first night was in that room was rough though as I seemed to develop an allergic reaction with sneezing and sinus congestion. In the morning we asked if we could change rooms and they said no problem. They moved us to the top (8th) floor to a room with an even better view, but more importantly no smoky-moldy smell. My allergies cleared right up and were never a problem again. (In fairness they are doing a lot of remodeling and the hotel has been around since the 80's at least, but is in pretty good shape Also, every building on the coast in Mexico has a hint of mold smell, it just goes with the tropical climate and high humidity.) The service at the café' was pretty slow (and we were anxious to get on our way after breakfast) but we had to remind ourselves we were on vacation and not in a rush. Also, the service is much faster in the early morning and late afternoon/evening. There is also a buffet next door if you don't want to wait for anything. The regular, themed, restaurants require a reservation and have a dress code, but holy cow are they worth it. Fantastic service, nice views and unbelievable food! Over the course of the week we had dinner at all of them, as well as each of the restaurants at the sister site next door. I still feel guilty if I don't leave a tip (not expected or required) but I have to say, whether you tip or not, you probably will never get as good service in the States. The portions are smaller than in most restaurants in the states but each meal is a work of art and I was never hungry after the fact. The buffet next door was decent, not as good as the one we had in Cancun, but all the basics were there and I liked it. The nightly shows were across the street in their theater and they were pretty good all things considered. If you are used to a Las Vegas style show you will be disappointed but for a small city in Mexico where all the entertainers also have day jobs at the pool, etc., they were surprisingly good. They worked hard to keep the audience involved and they had shows for both kids (the sister site is family oriented) and adults. We also booked some trips with our OTA, following his recommendations. The free city walking tour that comes with the hotel reservation is a must if you are into the history and culture of the places you visit. It turned out that our tour group was small enough that we could use a small air conditioned van to traverse the narrow streets and that's probably a good thing because it didn't look like the people who showed up for the walking tour would have lasted very long in the heat and steep, cobbled streets. I could go into the details of what we learned and saw along the way but just take my word for it, if you are into history and culture you will want to experience this, if you are interested in drinking and laying on the beach, skip it. The next day, after getting our bearings we took the city bus (not for the faint of heart) back to downtown and continued exploring on our own. During the week we also took a tour of the Marieta Islands as well as a Zip-Line tour. I will spare you the particulars but they were both well worth the money and if you are at all an outdoorsy type you should add those two (all day) excursions to your list. As an aside, the beaches were clean and nice, there is plenty of shopping within walking distance and there is a Starbucks with free Wi-Fi less than half a mile away. If you take a taxi or the city bus getting around the city is easy, and it is beautiful in an authentic Mexico kind of way. If you are walking bring plenty of water and stay hydrated, the heat and humidity sneaks up on you. I have heard people complain about street vendors or people selling stuff on the beach but they were never aggressive and if you said no or didn't make eye contact they left you alone. There wasn't a single person the entire week that wasn't unfailingly nice, helpful or friendly. One of the many reasons I love Mexico. Anyway, if you have read this far than this is probably a good destination for you/"

"Good= Beautiful city & beaches, friendly people and most of the hotel staff was very good. Food was pretty good & plentiful, but never much meat. The facility was good for the price, clean and a wonderful location. Bad= They had us in the wrong room and wanted us to pay AGAIN for the delux ocean front upgrade but we got it straightened out!! The building is dated, fountains did not work, a lot of it was under construction or felt a little shabby, 1 or more restaurants were always closed, and one elevator never worked so we had many waits. The maids never had enough supplies to restock the room, pillows were terrible, and we had to ask for something (wash cloths, kleenex, bath matt, etc) everyday. Bars were short on glasses & we usually had to wait on ourselves, but it was plentiful and freindly. "

"Let me preface this review by saying that the resort staff were very friendly and the location was ideal for excursions. I loved not battling children for the pool, lines in restaurants, or elevators. The food was ok. Not great, not bad, just middle of the row. Beach vendors made it next to impossible to enjoy the resort's beach, but the resort offered many activities poolside, and you can still see the beach from the pool. Upon checking in we were greeted by, what we thought was a concierge. He began by giving us a map of the property and sister property, advising us to make reservations for dinner that evening, and telling us where to go for our excursion the next day. He then told us we needed to try the 'fabulous special breakfast' while we were there, and noted it was limited seating by reservation only. He helped us pick out a reservation time and got it all set up. It was after that that he said it was a time share sales pitch, but just tell them you aren't interested and they will leave you alone. We decided to keep the reservation bc he assured us that the breakfast was amazing and once we declined the sales pitch we'd be left alone. That is not what happened. We arrived for breakfast and were greeted where we are told our sales rep would escort us to the 'kid friendly' sister property buffet for breakfast. We chose our resort bc it was adults only, so children at breakfast...NOT FABULOUS! Thinking we would eat and then go to the sales meeting where we would decline and be on our way...NO! Our sales rep not only ate with us, but talked business the entire time. He claimed that the whole thing would take 90 minutes including the 25 for breakfast. After our allotted time to eat, we were escorted to a meeting room, where we listened. The salesman agreed, but still proceeded to try to push us to purchase a vacation package. UMMM...I said no but finally, after almost 2 hours, I had heard enough and got loud and pushy myself. I demanded that they stop wasting my time, sign off on whatever they needed to sign off on bc we were leaving. It was our last full day in Puerto Vallarta, and the entire morning was wasted on this. The resort was decent, but don't fall for the 'special breakfast'."

"This place was great, the room was comfortable with a great bathroom. The bar staff were great and attentive. Food was great at all the restaurants, not so much at the bufett. Overall it was an outstanding experience."
