We have been going to this hotel for over 15 years. It was previously part of the Intercontinental chain and was very nice. About 3 years ago it became a became a Best Western and has gone down steadily ever since. This year was particularly bad as many of the guests were ill. Something was going through the hotel like wildfire. We guessed a norovirus type of illness. We were not able to leave our room for 5 days. The whole infrastructure of the place is falling apart. The elevators rarely work.... Read more

I stayed here end of February 2016 for a week. My partner and I got violently ill after the first day and spent 2 nights at hospital. I was diagnosed with dysentery. I believe the reason was sewage being dumped on the beach at night. it cant be a coincidence that so many reviews say that people got very ill. In addition, the stench from sewage in the tanning area, extremely slow housekeeping (after 8pm on 2 nights), no wifi in room, extremely dirty bathroom, and the non-responsive action from th... The place has one of the best beaches in the area, rooms are nice and clean, but IMO that's only 2/5: food in the buffet is so-so. We were lucky to avoid all-inclusive option be aware of mosquitos and be aware of dishonest staff. During check-in we were forced to pay for the stay despite we paid in advance to Priceline. Then I found the electronic confirmation of the payment and tried to return the overpayment. Every day I was told 'Yes, sure, will do that'. Finally we got to the manager of the ... Read more

Stayed in condo next door which shared beach with Best Western. Husband and I were walking along beach at night and heard loud thump of rocks hitting at our feet. Next day, we observed about a dozen, baseball sized rocks that had been thrown at us, likely by the vagrants living in the sea wall under the restaurant. Looked like a dungeon apartment with door carved into the wall and several windows (one was broken open). We informed security about it, and the security guard was nervous to ent... Read more

We booked our vacation in February through Tripadvisor. When we arrived on April 16th we discovered, (at the hotel), that it had changed hands and was now a Park Royal. (Part of a serious of 5 or 6 establishments involved in time share tours). Things that were promised in the package by Tripadvisor were not possible. For instance, and it is a small thing but prepaid for, there was no ceiling fan in the room. The package included free, unlimited bottled water but Park Royal only sets you two a da... Read more
