"Viva Azteca was great! Very clean, staff nice! Food was good, just seemed to not be the traditional Mexican food you would think. (for our family anyway) The employees were very friendly and hard working! Would go back again for sure!!!"
"We had very good time, food, room, entertainment, beach, pools great, clean, staff friendly. Yes,I would recommend it to anybody. Very romantic place."

"this was the worst hotel i have ever stayed at. I will never stay here again. You couldnt pay me to stay here again. The room had no water in the fridge, no room service, I couldnt eat at any time i wanted. I couldnt eat anything other than french fries and pizza. This was by far the worst stay i have ever encountered. I wish i could be compensated for staying here. It took 2 hours for towels to be delivered after i requested them. The staff was very unhelpful. There was nothing good about my stay here. "

"First time in Mexico, but not first time in Carribien in all inclusive. DO NOT GO HERE. The food is terrible, and is basically the same thing everyday. The ala carte resturants serve the same food, they only present it differently. The pool was scummy, The alcoholic drinks were extremely watered down. The hotel transfer service that book it, uses was bad as well. The operator was not where he said he would be on 2 occassions as we were trying to confirm our return trip to the airport. And to top it off, he wanted to fuss at me about not getting it done eariler, as he could have had the opportiunity to book us on excursions. To my fault, I selected this resort on line without any recommendations, MY BAD. The beds were rock hard. The cube refridge only stocked 4 soda pops and 1 12ox bottle of water.....NO ALCOHOLIC DRINKS, no doubt because they water them down. Do I sound disappointed I am, but please don't think about going here."
"never thought i would have enjoyed it as much as i did. staff was absolutely amazing and always trying to get you involved in the activities there.. very helpful and friendly people!! basically any kind of food you could want plus three extremely nice 4 course meal restaurants. pool was phenominal and the beach was about as beautiful as ive seen. although the rooms arnt that big or anything.. you dont need any big nice room with all the stuff that goes on at the resort! who would want to be in their room when you've got the gorgous beach and pool areas. overall, im already planning my next trip. got back mondayand im going back in another month!! cant wait!!"

"A few things... Staff was very friendly, the resort very clean. Many activities on a daily basis if that is what you like (volleyball, etc.). If you prefer quiet, you really can't hear the music they play at the pool on the beach. The buffet and snack bar was fine, many options but nothing spectacular. The Italian restaraunt was excellent, we ate there twice since our teens liked it so much. The dessert selection wasn't very appealing, our teens didn't find much that they liked so that says something right there. It seems like, for ease I am sure, the chefs stuck to fillings / ingredients (i.e. cream for example) that could be presented in desserts that looked different but were essentially the same and had the same ingredients - so there weren't many options on a nightly basis. Perhaps some additional ice cream flavors or a variety of cookies on a nightly basis would be a nice addition just for variety purposes. The drinks, even juices, seemed to be watered down. Perhaps we don't know how to order drinks or get on the good side of bartenders but don't expect much on the alcohol side. Even after trying a couple of different top shelf vodkas...they tasted the same. We had a first floor room by the pool and closer to the ocean so it was a little musty and moister than I believe 2nd and 3rd floor rooms would be but we liked the location so we opted for a dehumidifier that sucked all of the moisture from the air. Seriously, we emptied the receptacle that collected the water from the air 2 or 3 times a day, but that is to be expected given the location of the hotel. You noticed the difference in mustiness simply walking from the 1st floor to the 2nd but again we liked the easy access to & from pool & ocean so we opted to stay there. Our room had a soap and shampoo dispenser so bring your own bar soap / shampoo if you are sensitive or picky. The beds were actually more comfortable than some we have slept on in Cancun & Playa. I was actually able to sleep fairly well as the beds aren't as rock hard as I had expected them to be. You need to purchase your own bottled water for the room which we found to be a little unusual but you can walk down the street to the market to purchase big jugs if you want. Not as many english speaking guests as we have encountered at other hotels in the area, which is fine with us but our teens were a little disappointed as they were unable to make friends like they have in the past. Many Italians & Germans from what we could tell. Also, people from Argentinia, Poland, and France I believe. All in all, a nice resort for what you pay. Beautiful location. Everyone had fun."
"You had to get up before everyone else at the hotel to get a chair either by the pool or beach. the food was horrible. I was hoping for authentic Mexican food and everything was buffet style and poor quality. The hotel seemed old and outdated. I was not impressed and will not return to this area."
"My two friends and I stayed at Viva for 4 days and 3 nights. Despite the fact that we picked the wrong time to go to Mexico, it was raining the entire time, I had a wonderful experience at Viva Wyndham. If you're a party person, I do not suggest you stay at this location. The folks here were an older crowd. I'm 24, though, and it was a perfect environment for me. I like having the option of relaxing if I want to. However, there are options available for those who are interested in night life. We were able to rent bikes to go into a little plaza to purchase souvenirs, there were activities for us to do during the day considering we were not able to enjoy the pool or the beach. The staff, in its entirety, was probably my favorite part of the trip. They did an amazing job at keeping us entertained and making us feel at home. Their energy and efforts to get the crowd to participate was phenomenal. The only thing that would make me question is whether I would return to Viva would be the quality of the food. Although they had a few a la carte restaurants, your reservations have to be made weeks in advance. The one reservation for dinner we were able to manage was at an on-site restaurant called Bamboo and we were only able to get a reservation at 8:30PM. However, we weren't even able to eat there because they put on a play and it coincided with our reservations. If given the chance to see the play 'The Lion King' that is played by the hotel staff, take it! The play was phenomenal. All in all, minus the bad food, if you want to have as many drinks as you want without the staff getting annoyed because you're going there every two minutes to get a drink, go for Wyndham Azteca."
"We went for a five day trip to Playa del Carmen last August 2010. The hotel staff was friendly, especially the housekeeping staff. The highlight of our stay was the security of the whole entire resort and surrounding neighborhood. We were able to walk at night with out concerns. The access to the beach was spectacular. Even while you had a drink or snack in the resort's patio area, you could see the ocean. The water was perfect. Our room was very close to the beach and pool area. We were on the first floor and had direct access to our little patio area. The room was spacious and we did not encounter problems with the a/c or any other thing. I would recommend booking a room close to the beach area so that you can have quicker access to both the pool and beach. The only draw backs were that the drinks were a little light on the alcohol and small in size. The food was also generic. We appreciated the variety of food, but did not experience having any entree that had any wow factor. We had a couple of bad experiences with other guests being rude, but did not require the assistance of hotel staff. If we were to return to this resort, we would not get the all inclusive package. We would consider returning because of the close proximity to the beach, downtown area, excellent security needed for you to explore the area and comfort of the hotel accommodations. But not for the food or drinks. "
