"The property is huge and both adult and kid friendly. Everything so far has been very good. The food was good and the activities at night are entertaining. Staffs are friendly and helpful esp. at the restaurants. We stayed for 4 days and most of it had been a pleasant experience. I just wish that we we're able to reserve in one of the ala carte restaurant. It was hard to make reservation. It was fully booked. So we end up eating at the buffet 3x/ day for 4 days. The last day, the breakfast buffet has no food selection. Looks like the food was mostly leftovers from the night before. The staff looks tired and in a daze like they don't know what they're doing. Also the rooms are far apart and walking from our room to the restaurant was tiring. Wish they have more courtesy cart that you can use to take you from place to place within the resort. At night, the trails going to the room is dark and needed more lighting esp. the pathways."

Al pricipio nos sentimos un poco defraudados porque el cuarto que nos dieron no estaba en las mejores codiciones. la cama no estaba tan limpia, los muebles son muy viejos, tenia un olor a humedad horrible y peor aun tienen un aparato que saca la humedad que hace un ruido espantoso que no deja dormir. Queria salir corriendo de alli. At the begining we were a little disappointed because the room they gave us was not in the best conditions. the bed was not as clean, the furniture is very old, had a horrible musty smell worse have a device that removes moisture makes a terrible noise that leaves no sleep. I wanted to run from there. Two days later we were moved to a suite facing the sea (thanks!! That if it was a wonderful experience. My complaint was the back rooms that are also far from the beach. Was otherwise a nice vacation. All staff excellent friendly and very polite. would like to return? I go back (to the suites in front of the beach). thank all the staff who made my husband and I had a happy 41 anniversary. thank you & God bless you ."

"I'd like to share my bad experience in hopes that I can save some of you a headache and bad experience overall. I will admit that I disregarded the negative comments on here and booked with Sandos Caracol anyways, afterall they are rated a 10 right!? First of all, I'm really confused as to how anybody could rate this resort a 10! We booked here because we had already had a beautiful experience at their other Resort, Sandos Playacar, but I quickly realized that Caracol was nothing like Playacar. From the moment we arrived I realized I had made a mistake when I saw that the place was packed with people! The reception area is completely out in the open. But even after seeing this, I still made myself keep an open mind and continued to get checked in and then eventually driven to our rooms by a small golf cart. On our way, I saw many animals roaming the resort. Ok, this is an 'eco' resort so I continued to keep an open mind. There were raccoons, donkeys, and an area for stray cats, Yes, Stray cats! What topped it all, was when I walked into our rooms =( I could not believe my eyes! It literally looked like low budget rooms. The place was dingy, dark and smelled of sewer. The bedding looked dirty and the furniture was old and outdated. When I tried opening the sliding door to our small triangular shape patio, the door was stuck. Finally when I was able to open the screen sliding door it fell! Outside, the small triangular piece of cement was dirty and stained. There was garbage in the surrounding area and there was absolutely no view! Only jungle. Also, the comments about the mosquitos, they're 100% true! The room was filled with mosquitos, but then again this should be expected when you're in the middle of the jungle. After only 10 minutes in the room I knew that there was no way I was spending the night in these rooms. We had one dinner prior to heading over to reception to let them know that this was not going to work out, and the mexican restaurant was average. After dinner I rushed to the reception area and spoke with the manager. That was probably the best part of that experience. The manager understood my concerns and made every effort to have my family transferred to another resort. We requested Sandos Playacar since we had had a wonderful experience there 3 years ago, but there were no rooms available. He made some calls and was able to find us rooms at Sandos Cancun. Wow! what a difference! night and day difference. This small hotel was luxurious and the food was absolutely wonderful. Once again, the only reason why I'm taking the time to post my experience is to save someone the hassle of booking at Caracol and then being disappointed."

"The vacation was lovely from the day we booked it.
The resort was gorgeous. The staff wonderful, the show excellent, the beach amazing and the food OMG it was 5 star all the way. I have zero complaints about this resort. I return again for another girls trip or bring my kids. It had everything a traveler would want.
The comments about musty smells or the beach are ridiculous. If you think you are going to a tropical destination and not smell a little moisture in the air, you are in sane. The beach is beautiful and the sand bags are there to ensure it stays that way.
We had two incidents that we had to call the for service, the battery had ran out in our key lock and we had messed up the safe. In both instances the technician was there with in minutes. Wonderful response and service.
I completely recommend booking your restaurant reservations the instant you arrive. They fill up fast. My favorites were the steak restaurant and Italian. But the buffets were wonderful, so again no complaints.
We did have a beach massage and go on a snorkeling tour and chose to walk down the beach to the left of the resort instead of booking through the resort. They were wonderful and a great savings.
I hope you enjoy your vacation to Sandos as much as I did.

"This is heaven to my children--a great place for kids. I have two boys (4 and 8) and the big disagreement of the week was whether to go to the beach, the pool or the waterpark. Usually the waterpark won and I liked it too! Lay back and have a drink while the kids are on autopilot fun. We also enjoyed all the animals and the grounds are lovely with lots a trails to explore. What would I change? Food is hit and miss as is the case with any buffet. You soon figure out that the International buffet is not the best for dinner. The rooms did have a slight musty scent even though we were on the third floor, but not enough to really bug me (should have just brough room spray and that would fix it). The beach is rocky in most spots so water shoes were important and I wish we could have walked to a less rocky beach like you find in playacar, but it was still a nice spot (some areas were good for very shallow snorkeling for kids). We really liked the mayan shows at night, my kids liked the kid's club (there was no charge when we were there), and I likied the vendors that came in certain nights so there was an aire of a street fair and could bargain for little trinkets to bring back. They also had a giant connect four that my son liked and that, I thought, served as a nice metaphor for our vacation."

"This is a gorgeous resort which is lush, with many available activities. Great if you want to do more than lay out, eat, and drink. We enjoyed lots of walking through the many trails on the grounds, as well as the frequently and easily seen animals due to the 'jungle' setting. Loved kayaking, biking, and snorkeling! What you gain in surroundings, you somewhat lose in service, however. There are serious ambiguities which left us baffled and unable to access needed services. For example, nowhere in the one magazine in the room do they explain that the 'Select Club/Adults Only' does NOT just mean you are adults - resulting in the single rudest moment of service I've ever experienced. Half hour after settling in at the Select Members pool (and sound asleep due to jet lag), a worker awakened me to tell me - with no real english skills - that we had to leave (and, NOT because the place was crowded). When you spend a good chunk of change to go somewhere like this, you don't expect a velvet rope and social stratification, so when it occurs, especially whenyou are asleep and they never inform you of this, it is shocking. Also, that same magazine provided a phone number for making dinner reservations; two nights I did this. Both nights, we arrived as scheduled and were told we had no reservation; they asked for my tickets, which no one on the phone EVER mentioned. Finally, I really needed to find the internet service, and was told several varied things by several staff. The last full day in Mexico we found the little building, and though it was empty, the worker there told us we had to come back midday (which of course, did not work for us, we had already made plans for the middle of the day). As I loved the physical setting and the immediate staff (waitresses, etc) were great, I am not sure whether I recommend this to a friend or not. Quite a lovely but mixed bag."

"Our best all-inclusive yet...Beautiful grounds, pool, beach and friendly staff. Very helpful. Great family hotel, for all-inclusive food, we thought the selection was good and varied. We were not ready to leave after 7 days.....Loved Playa Del Carmen for the shopping on 5th Ave. Staff helpful getting a taxi for this....Time share people do approach you upon check-in but we simply said No Thank You and that was it. No pressure, no bugging. WE LOVED THE RESORT and would not hestitate to recommend to families/ friends."

"This is a great place to go with kids, has great value for its price, and the services are good. The place itself is magnificent, lush and well-kept. the only minor issue is that it doesn't have a good stretch of sandy beach which is due to past hurricanes, although it's really a minor issue unless you spend all your time in the sand."

"The staff was friendly, however they were not very informative nor accurate when giving out information as to times of events or when things were open to be used etc. We went to use the steam room on Sunday and it was broken and we were told at the main lobby that it would be fixed on Monday when the gentleman came back to work. As of when we left it was still broken . The original room which was a deluxe with Jacuzzi had a slight moldy smell and the Jacuzzi Tub faucet was hanging loose. We decided to upgrade to Adults Only Select Club and found these accommodations to be very nice, so if you do not have children I would suggest that you get the adults only Select Club. I said that I would not return as I try not to stay at the same resort twice, however I would recommend the resort to friends as it has a beautiful beach and the food was excellent for an all-inclusive."

"On arrivail you get the impression this place is going to be wonderful 100%, We found a few things that were of great disappointment since this place is for children, right? Some restrauts won't let your little ones in the door to eat, no matter how well behave they are! You can take them to kids club for $10 an hr, per child. Are they kidding? Be prepared to have hot drinks, these people have little idea what an ice cube is, so look up the word in spanish, and be ready to use it alot!!!!!
Your kid drink milk? Bring a couple cups, and there special flavoring, no micowave in room, hairdryer in room trash, room floors always dirty from ocean, so bring something for feet unless you like the feel on your feet.
Those are the drawn backs folks.....the rest of this place, food ,beach, room, service, jungle, animals, etc, shows, fablous, we had the time of our lives!
Would we come back , Yip in a heart beat, but to a upgraded select section with ocean view next time, no granddaughter or daughter with us!"

"I loved the resort. Being in the middle of nature and seeing the different types of flaura and fauna was very exciting. Being near the Adult Pool was a plus, very quiet and very near everything. The rest of the grounds were beautiflly kept. The only draw back for me was the beds. They were extremely hard. When I memtioned it to the guest services, they provided a down topper which helped a bit. I was told that I could request several toppers if I needed them. The food was really great and the variety was exceptional. I would definitely consider returning again."

"This resort definitely needs some updating and the pictures are much nicer than the actual resort. I paid for the upgrate to the Select Club and the room was just ok. They were doing construction right outside my building and the room smelled like a toilet! Speaking of toilets...minewas broken and I had to stick my hand inside the tank to stop it from running almost every time I flushed. The stopper in the jacquzzi did not fit properly and it would not hold water so so much for using that. The bed was so hard that one night I actually tried to sleep on the small couch in the room! The beach is not as nice as I would have hoped!! Very rocky and full of seaweed every day! There were alot of fish in the water that would come right up to you i you fed them some bread.
Now for some positives:
The animals around the resort are really a great feature! There are deer, raccoons, coatis, cats, peacocks, donkeys and even some monkeys although I never saw them. The vet who is on staff at the resort, is amazing! She does the eco tour every day at 10:30. Believe me, take the hour and go on the tour! It is very obvious how much she loves her job!!
The food at the ala carte restaurants was good. I had all but the Mexican as I was told that it was only open for breakfast and did not find out until my last night there that that wasn't the case. The steak house was my favorite!! Excellent filet!!
The buffet food was also good but almost the same thing every day!
Shows at night were entertaining.
Overall, this is just an ok hotel. I would not return and I would recommend that you keep looking around for a more modern resort in the area. There are plenty of them and I have been to alot of them. The pictures of this resort drew me in but I would not go again!"

"Overall, the resort was very nice, great for kids! The rooms could use an update and the smelled a bit musty/old but probably due to the humidity in the area. The pool was fun, staff were very friendly but be careful when booking activities off the resort, I had my camera stolen when getting off a catameran trip. Other than that no problems."

"My bf & I went there during Labor Day weekend, the rates were amazing so we took a chance even though we read mixed reviews & went ahead with it.
From the get go the staff was extremely friendly, in the check area in they greet you with a delicious tropical drink while you get the keys to the room & they explain the hotel to you. We got there 3 hours before check in & we were able to go to our room without charge & without a problem.
The cleanliness of the room was amazing, & when we had a problem with our jacuzzi they were extremely fast on sending someone to get it all checked out, the head staff for cleaning in our building was extremely helpful & efficient.
The beach area is beautiful, they have chairs spread out everywhere & there is people constantly cleaning & picking up to make sure the area stays clean.
There are bars all around the hotel, they even have one with food & drinks open 24 hours.
The buffets were excellent, we were expecting low quality food as with most buffets that you go to, but this one was amazing, everything was delicious & the people there super friendly.
The restaurant I recommend is the mediterranean one, it is the most romantic one & in my opinion the one with the best service & food (we also went to the Argentinian & to the Brazilian both which were excellent)
Our server there was amazing, & the Capitan was extremely friendly & happy, everyone there in the restaurant was great, it was an honest delight.
Outside the hotel we did the selvatica experience which was zip-lining, atv's & cenote. We chose this one because it was number one on trip advisor & we were not disappointed at all. The experience was amazing! The Zip lines are insane & it is extremely safe. The best part is that they have a camera man following you around the whole time, at the end you get offered and amazing package for not more than $40 bucks for all the pics printed & delivered to your hotel. It was honestly amazing.
We also went to coco bongos at night & it was spectacular, the shows are amazing, super original & extremely fun.
Our whole trip was amazing, I would definitely go back to this resort. for family trips its great & recommendable.

"We just returned from a week's stay at the Sandos Caracol for the second year in a row. After traveling to the Riviera Maya area for over 10 years and staying at 25 different resorts during that time, this is the only resort we have returned to twice. The main reason is that we now have two small children (8 months and 4 years) and this resort definitely caters to families.
The water park is awesome for babies thru probably 10 year olds. They have a bar (not swim up) for the adults as well as a changing area and towel exchange there. Great fun and we always meet many other families while watching the kids play.
The management has done some major investments into the Kid's Club in the last year since we visited last. They have a dedicated building and staff. They are open 10am-10pm. The building has a trampoline, bouncehouse, two-story play gym (like at McDonald's), gaming area, movie theater and art area. We have never sent our 4 year old to a resort's kids club before but upon her request this year after seeing the building, we let her go for a couple of hours on two different days and she had a blast. The kids could stay all day if they wanted. The staff takes them to the beach for a couple of hours, lunch, etc. Tip: Be sure you take a pair of socks for them as it is required for the trampoline, etc.
The pool areas are great! There is a kids section with a shallow area, activities section on the other end with swim up bar, music and well-organized activities and sports (water polo, ping pong, darts, water aerobics, etc). There is also an adults only relaxation pool in a different area of the resort.
The beach has great sand and man-made breakers about 50 yards out, great for snorkeling and keeping the waves very small to protect the little ones.
There is also a natural cenote for swimming (although kind of cold). The property sits on a wet land and there is a little stream that they have cleared through the property that they can take you out on a little boat for a 'romantic ride' although I would think could get quite buggy. Definitely pack your bug repellent in general for this trip and don't leave your room without it from dusk after. We brought the 'Off' fans because I didn't want to put bug spray on the baby and they work well.
This is an Eco Resort so you will see many animals like donkeys, peacocks, racoons, lizards, macaws, cats, coatis and monkeys!
The restaurants all do a very good, sufficient job but nothing is gourmet. Consider what you paid. The a la carte restaurants definitely provide a higher quality and good service. The main buffet, La Laguna always had a great variety and sometimes had a better offering at lunch than dinner in our opinion because we love authentic Mexican food and they typically had some kind of specialty each day. Breakfast includes omelets, eggs and crepes cooked to order which was a nice treat.
The nightly entertainment is some of the best we've experienced in Mexico as it is predominately paid acts, not just the over worked, worn out entertainment staff that has been going all day.
They have a Disney show on Friday nights that all the kids at the resort can participate with a part in, very cute. Don't make a la carte dinner reservations on Wednesday night as it is Mexican night and they have traditional vendors, food offerings (including tamales, tacos al pastor, roasted corn) outside the buffet restaurants. You feel like you are in a traditional village. Don't miss the kids nightly entertainment as well before the main show - face painting, balloon art, etc.
If you are traveling with kids, this is definitely an exceptional value for the money as they have so many EXTRAS for them.
The photo staff is great. They are down by the pool by 10am making their rounds at the beach, water park, resort premises all the way through dinner at the restaurants taking free pics. It's a bit pricey to purchase their shots but they get great ones and definitely worth buying some. If you want to get a great family beach photo, go by the photo shop a day or two ahead and schedule an appt. They will do a full free photo shoot for you and again, you only buy what you like.
The rooms are sufficient but nothing grand. There are very few, if any partial or actual ocean view rooms. We booked a Jr Suite since we had the two kids but wished it had a separate room with a sliding door or something after 7 days of being all together and the baby waking everyone up at 6am everyday. The beds are hard but the pillows are fluffy. I haven't ever found a soft bed in Mexico.
All of the staff are very friendly and accomodating. They LOVE babies so beware if you take one that your baby will be held by many of the staff (men and women) daily. They love to touch their heads too. Very sweet.
There are eco and archeologic tours daily given by the staff and give you a greater appreciation for the facilities and property. Very interesting and I highly recommend it.
Take some cash for tips, not necessary or expected but deserved.
