"We stayed at the Mahekal for seven nights in April 2013 and it was magical. The pictures on the website don't really do it justice. This hotel may not appeal to everyone because there is no tv, phone or internet in the rooms but, if you're going to relax and enjoy the beach and the local culture, this is the place.

The staff are very helpful and easy to work with. We were traveling with three different families and kept changing rooms so we could be closer together and it was no big deal to them. They'd just say 'sure, sure, no problem'. If I ever get the chance to go back, I would definitely stay there again.

We chose Mahekal because of the reviews on Trip Advisor, they were overwhelmingly positive. I'm so glad we did!"

"This was our first trip to Mexico. We can't say enough about the Mahekal. We felt like we were in paradise! Everyone at the resort was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was quiet, calm and relaxing. The palapas were beautiful. We woke each moring to the sound of the waves lapping against the shore, and the birds singing in the palm trees. This is a place we will definately return to!"

"My wife and I had never been to Mexico, so we decided to try Playa Del Carmen. The Mahekal Beach Resort was a wonderful place to stay. The front desk staff were excellent. All of the staff that we dealt with was very courteous and gracious. We stayed in one of the beach-front bungalos and it was fantastic. It was great to be able to wake up in the morning and take two steps off the front porch and be on the beach. The room was always kept very clean and tidy by the staff. Everyday, we had a different towel sculpture waiting on the bed for us when we came back from our daily excursions. Mahekal was very quiet, clean and stressless. A perfect place to kick back and relax. The resort is within walking distance of 5th street, which is where all the shops are located. All in all, Mahekal Beach Resort was a wonderful vacation for my wife and myself. We will definitely return."

"It was truly a magical experience! We loved the quality of the rooms as well as the cleanliness of all the grounds and beach. The staff went out of their way to make it a wonderful vacation for us. I would highly recommend this place for those that want a relaxing, quiet, place. The food plan was great and on the days we spent just relaxing on the beach or in our hammocks, we would just order a lunch brought out to us on the beach! We felt totally spoiled. We also loved the fact that we were not locked in to that resort only. The resort is located right on the beach and within half a block from the tourist area they call 5th avenue. Which is a street about 2 miles long full of shops and restaurants. We took a day trip once and went and saw the Mayan ruins. We also took a ferry about 1 and half miles away that took us to Cozumel for the day. We rented a scooter there and rode around the island and stopped and did some snorkeling. It was great fun and not too expensive. We loved the Mahekal Beach Resort and would not change a thing!!!!"

"This hotel is a very special place. It's like your own private vacation. If you are looking for an all Americanized vacation with over crowded facilties ...do not go here as you will be dissappointed. Mahekal is very a low-key, personalized resort that caters to the traveler wanting a memorable vacation. No crowds at all and you're free to do what you want, when you want. Exactly what a vacation should be. Service is top notch! Meals are incredibly prepared and delicious and the onsite dining facilities are magical, especially tthe evening dinners. Beach is by far the best stretch of sand and blue water in Playa. And did I mention the service? :) I hope it never loses it's charm, because they truly have retained something the other resorts lost a long time ago. I highly recommend this resort! We will be back! Viva Mexico!"

We have been going since 1986 and as usual it is still a great resort to have rest, relaxation, great for families or just couples. The staff is great and friendly. The reception area is there to greet you with a smile and are very special to us along with the waiters, bag boys who can help you plan trips. If you want a small resort on the beach and friendly, this is the place to go."

"This hotel is perfect. It has a great location, great layout, nice beach, best service, great food, etc. etc. etc. Their meal plan is the best because they include buffet breakfast and the option of dinner or lunch. For us worked perfectly beause we had all the breakfasts and most of the dinners since we were out and about all day. A couple of days we decided to stay at the hotel so exchanged dinner for lunch and went out to dinner to try some of the local restaurants too. All the employees were very nice and helpful. I would definately reccomend it and consider it in case we decide to go back one day. Thanks Mahekal!!!"
