"This was our first trip ever to Mexico, and on the drive from the Airport to the resort we were a little scared about what we may have gotten ourselves into. Happily we soon discovered that the resort was nestled in a small community called Playacar, the area was safe, clean and very nice. The resort was amazing, the staff was very nice and attentive to our needs. The room was clean, spacous, decorated with a tropical decor, and conviently located near the pool and beach. The food at the buffet was OK, not bad, just after a few days it gets old. I highly recommend scheduling for a night at the Japanese steak house, the food was fantastic, and it was fun. As for the included drinks, be sure to request name brand liquor, the drinks made with well liqor seemed watered down, but as soon as I figured out I could request Jose Cuervo at no additional cost, I was having a much nicer time. We will definitely be back!!"

"We have previously stayed (twice)at the Iberostar Parisio Beach complex about 20 miles north of the Tucan/Quetzel and found the rooms at the Tucan/Quetzel comfortable w/ king size beds, the staff very friendly; from the maids who left a very creative towel 'art form' on your bed every day, to the waiters who were constantly at your service. The hotel is 2 miles south of Playa del Carmen and its 5th Avenue shopping experience and a fun time negotiating with the many vendors. Taxi was $7 US one way and we walked back once and saw may beautiful houses and other large hotels.Make your reservations at the specialty restaurants when you arrive. The Steakhouse's (we ate there twice) tenderloin was cooked medium rare and perfect along with the beef ribs (fall off the bone), and pork ribs. The Italian Restaurant and Mexican restaurants were also very good, but the head waiter at the Italian restaurant was not very nice and asked us to make room for the 8:30 seating when in fact there was only one couple at the door when we left. The fish (red snapper and grouper) at the Tropical restaurant was over cooked and they did not have the advertised lobster in their pasta dish. Loved the tropical environment with birds, monkeys, turtles, flamingos, iguanas, etc. Internet is not available in the rooms. We found it better to walk 7 minutes to a Starbucks and enjoy a coffee and unlimited internet. The Tucan and Quetzel are in the same complex. One side is the Tucan and the other is the Quetzel. They both share the same restaurants, beach and entertainment facilities. Best Day roundtrip transfer from Cancun airport was prompt, quick and reasonable"

"I probably would not stay at this hotel again. This was our second stay here and it seemed to be in need of some upgrades. Our guess is that the economy has prevented the resorts to afford the needed upgrades. The service was excellent and staff friendly. I was not happy with the food at lunch and dinner. We ate at the Mexican Restaurant one night and Steak House the final night. I have been to Mexico 15 times and never gotten sick until our final night here where, after eating at Steak House, I became sicker than I have even been. This however did not ruin my overall experience. "

"We loved Iberostar Quetzal and Tucan! The beach is beautiful, the pool is huge, the rooms are comfortable (except very hard beds), staff very friendly, adult swim up bar is great with really good mojitos! We loved the location of this resort. It is in the Playacar complex which is really secure and filled with other resorts and beautiful homes. We walked into Playa del Carmen on the road and walked back to our resort on the beach. Beautiful! The food at the Italian Restaurant and the Hibachi grille was very, very good. The Hacienda was not so good, but it could've been our choices too. The resort grounds are gorgeous with lots of birds and I even got video of a monkey. Waterfalls, lighted walkways, romantic. Thanks for an excellent honeymoon Iberostar! Oh and a side note... Leave the housekeeper a few ones each day and your mini fridge will be stocked with Dos Equis or whatever you would like, everyday! And tip the rest of the staff too. They don't expect it but they greatly appreciate it! :)"

"The Iberostar Quetzal and Tucan resort in Playa Car we both agree is the most beautiful resort the both of us have been too. We stayed there from the 18th to the 25th of July and enjoyed every minute of it. Only one day did we leave the resort (Xel-ha, also a completely amazing experience), the other 7 we were more then content statying at the resort. The buffets were good and the resteraunts were great. The staff and service at this place was unlike anything we have seen. Everyone was fantastic! We already started looking at a trip again next year, can not wait to go back!"

"This is a very good resort to stay at. It's was our first time to Mexico and we loved it. The staff, the pool, the ocean, the food was excellent. Very clean and beautifully maintained ground. The little jungle in the middle of the resort is like a paradise, their was lots of kids on the resort but we did not heard them cause they were so amuse by the animals. We would recommend that resort to our friend and we would co back to that resort again soon."

"This was my family's first attempt at an all-inclusive vacation, and we were very satisfied with our experience at Iberostar Quetzal. The weather was very cooperative and we thouroughly enjoyed spending the majority of our time on the beach or poolside. The staff was friendly and attentive and we enjoyed a variety of activities such as bike riding, pottery, darts, and massages on the beach. The vacation was truly a slice of heaven-not having to worry about paying for food and drinks was a big bonus, especially with two teenage kids! The only drawback we can think of was the firmness of the mattresses-quite hard compared to anything we are accustomed to-usually we were so tired by the end of the day that we were able to sleep, but our soft comfy beds may have been the biggest lure to get us out of there at the end of our stay-otherwise we could have stayed for weeks!"

"This hotel was one of the best we ever stayed at in Mexico. The staff went out of their way to please you. Most all spoke at least some English. Food at the buffets was very good. Because of the low season we were also offered additional nights at the ALAcart restaurants. These were air conditioned and had menus with excellent choices. This was especially appreciated since weather was extremley hot and humid. Property was well maintained and the pool area is definately not to be missed.Only negative is their adult drinks are very mild to say the least. That is to be expected in an all-inclusive though. You always have the option to pay for better liquor. One other note is their internet service is pay only. The time you buy is for one session which is not made clear upfront. Overall a very good stay that I would recommend."
