Had a great time at this hotel, in a Very beautiful setting, the beach was out of this world, truly ??Á??╣??? The buffet was great for the first week, but did get a little fed up with it by the second week, breakfast was good lost of choice. The Italian and Mexican restaurant where beautiful, food to really enjoy and the staff where great, helpful and could not do enough for you, these where manual, george , migel and alonzo on the bar, believe they all need rewards, unlike some, such as Anto... The hotel was lovely and Playacar is a paradise in a secure gated area, we felt very safe at all times! The staff are friendly in the resturants and bars! Housekeeping works tirelessly and do a great job! The odd member of staff in reception can be a bit rude and very much a stickler for the rules and they do things one way which sometimes can over complicate things, the hotel needs to look at the customer experience instead of making things difficult I.e resturant bookings perhaps should be abl... This was my third time visiting the Allegro Playacar and I went with my 20 year old friends. From the start, I felt un-welcomed and uncomfortable because they couldn't find our names on the list. After sorting this problem out, we finally go to our room, by ourselves, and there was one bed for me and my friend, who is also a male. I booked this trip 7 months prior specifically making sure we had two beds. I went down the lobby and was told the place was full and nothing would happen. I argued it... Read more

A really pleasant hotel to stay at. Stayed at the Allegro for 10 nights with my girlfriend. Food: As it is an all inclusive hotel, you get buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at set times during the day. The breakfast was I feel probably the best out of all the meals as you had everything you could ask for! Every night was a different theme dinner theme. We only had lunch at the snack bar due to it being close to the pool. You also have a snack bar opposite the drinks bar with a selection of foo... Read more

I like to focus on the positives such as this resort's spectacular beach and ocean, a good first club facility and a fun pool area. We really enjoyed the first club area and its small pool-- you can't beat that view. Santi behind the bar was top-shelf and just a great guy. Good eats in the FC every day. The service everywhere on the resort was great. The buffet food was acceptable but I don't go on vacation to eat myself into oblivion. Don't expect 5 star food. We did a day-trip to Cozum... My partner and I spent 8 nights at this resort and it was terrible. We are very well travelled (over 30 countries) but we were really unhappy with this resort and I'm speechless about the positive reviews. Firstly I want to praise the waitstaff and bar staff. They were very friendly, efficient, and we enjoyed their service. Unfortunately the positives stop there. The first two days we were harassed by time share representatives that would 'escort' us to/from restaurant, and around the resort, ... Read more

We stayed for 10 days from 21st May, we really enjoyed the hotel. The staff were always happy to help if you needed it, we did ask them to change the TV as all the screen was red, they did this within 15 minutes of being asked, not that we were bothered by it, but we did check the news. The food was good in both the buffet and the a la carte restaurants. We had an amazing time, the food was very good and fresh. They had a breakfast bar with all different types of fruits where you can choose the fruits you want and you take it to the blender where they make you a fruit smoothie. There were many different food options and good liquor and drink options for being an all inclusive. The rooms were very clean and each had their own hammock for you to enjoy and relax. Would definitely recommend.

We quickly identified that the Mexican restaurant was the only place to eat dinner and did so every night except for when it was closed. However, the food in the Mexican theme buffet that night is one of the reasons why we return to Mexico - proper Mexican food. But back to the Mexican restaurant, Miguel, Manuel and Jorge were brilliant. But special mention must go to the 23 year old chef, Ana. This hotel is not more than a very basic 3Star hotel : Amenities are basic (2pools, 1 bar by pool/beach, no service on the beach, entertainment is the same every day) , the rooms are old and need major renovation (and we got a lot of mosquitos bites in our room), the food is buffet style which is the same every day at lunch and a bit different at diner and the service at the reception is pretty bad. We didn't pay 5* prices so didn't expect a 5* hotel, I would say a basic 3* but great for the price. We've been to this resort 6 times and there's a reason for that. I love the island atmosphere of this place. Yes it's older than some, but that's what gives it it's character (not to mention the amazing beachfront). Some of the neighboring resorts should be located in Las Vegas (huge and typical).. Everyone that works there works hard, and always eager to make sure we're enjoying our stay. On check-in, we didn't get the room that we requested - which to be fair may have been due to our travel agent but the hotel wasn't able to accommodate our request and placed us in a really dark and musty room. All around the hotel you can find old Mayan artifacts. The beach was clean, beautiful and shimmery. I had the nest MojitoÔ??s here. Also the hotel is a short walk into town / 5th avenue. Frank was the only person who gave us the in and out of the hotel and area. He made our vacation so much more enjoyable just by simply showing he cared that we we... Read more

Loved our stay here.Room was very comfortable-food was good-beach was awesome.Downtown was a 20 minute walk from hotel.Would have given it 5 stars but time-share people were ferocious and confronted us any time when walking through hotel lobby and would not take no for an answer. Also UGHH CORONA and MODELO were only beers offered as part of all-inclusive(but a little lime took care of the taste)

Guys if you are looking for 5 star luxury and a modern look then this is not your place. The hotel is over 25 years old a yes in places its condition reflects that, however that said Barcelo are in the process of updating the rooms and other facilities and from the work that I saw that was being completed it all looks good for the future. Ideally placed in the gated community of Playacar and is either a 25min walk to town via the beach or a 5 min taxi ride. Taxis is an awesome way to get aroun... Read more

I've been to the Playacar Beach area 6 times, twice at Sandos and now 4 times at the Allegro. I also stayed in the town of PDC as well as hotels both north and south of Playacar. The Allegro was recently purchased by the Barcelo firm and there is a major facelift and attitude adjustment going on there. Both the lobby and guest rooms are being upgraded. The construction areas were cordoned off by walls, and at this time were away from the pool and beach area. The manager Yvonne remembered me fr... Read more

We have just arrived home from a fantastic 2 week holiday in this beautiful resort. I have to admit to being slightly apprehensive after reading some previous reviews but we had absolutely nothing to worry about. The hotel itself is about a 60 minute drive from Cancun airport. We had a warm welcome from the reception staff and were shown to our room which was nicely air conditioned and clean and tidy. 2 large double beds for us all. The air con is very noisy also! First negative point - the ... Read more

When we first arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the sound of drilling/banging/disc cutter noise, not a good welcome. This went on for the 8 day stay, the management say it is to improve their hotel, but it didn't improve our week by having that noise around us from 9am to 9pm daily! One night we counted 42 works leaving the complex! We went on holiday to relax and get away from that kind of noise. The rooms really do need improvement and if your staying as a family of 4 it could get ve... Read more

We took our 2 children to Playa del Carmen to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are First Club Members but have never visited this Occidental location before. We loved it! Having the entire top floor of one of the 2 storey-buildings facing the pool and ocean was ideal - we loved laying out on the hammocks at night and listening to the waves crashing. The rooms were beautifully decorated, air conditioning kept us nice and cool - and they were always kept very clean. The beach is stunning... Read more

The beach is the most amazing ever! The service and food is exceptional. The rooms are dated but everything else makes up for it! Great family resort. The buffet at night changes daily so you don't get tired of your food choices. The pool side bar, pizza and restaurant makes it very convenient. Nice to have a bathroom next to pool, people use it, very clean facility!

I am an avid traveler (check out my profile if you want proof). I've been to a dozen countries, including Mexico something like .... 8 times? Maybe more. One of my good friends had just gotten a passport and she wanted to go international without dropping a lot of money. We found the Allegro Playacar and booked because it was so inexpensive. We prepared ourselves for a "meh" resort (very few restaurants, small rooms, cheap price... what can you expect?!) I was so very pleasantly surprised. ... Read more

This was a family holiday years in the planning due to collective work commitments and we paid for it as a family get together , we arrived to find major refurbishment work taking place ok, it was at the top entrance and did not affect the rooms at the bottom of the resort, we were told that a company called Barcel├│ had purchased the resort and minor works of improvement were taking place , as the weeks went along it got worse,it is a total referb of the resort including the pool as we found i... Spent 13 nights here after touring USA. First time in Mexico. It was a building site, it is being renovated, and don't I know it. The noise levels of drilling and grinding go on from 8am to 8pm!!! If you go, try to get into the 5... rooms. We were in 3111 at first, bdg noise horrendous, couldn't sit out. Drips from ceiling and condesation so bad our clothes in the 'wardrobe' (rail next to a wall) were all wet!!!! Requested room change which they arranged no problem. Went into 5601 same style roo... My stay at the Allegro Playacar was amazing. The staff were the best part about it! The waiting staff were always happy and friendly and always helpful and the entertainment staff always made sure no one was bored! Only criticism is that the food lacked vegetarian options but other than that absolutely amazing!

I'm here now, and yes there is a lot of building work cracking off. And at times can be very noisey . But the staff , make up for it. All of them are busy making your stay wonderful. Alex in the morning , works so hard . Does everything he can for you. Bringing you drinks by the pool . Without even asking him . Not everything is open at the mo. But what is , makes it small & friendly. Food is great , and I'm coeliac . So I thought I would struggle . But up to now I haven't . They have brought me... Read more

I've traveled a bit and never had an impression big enough to compel me to write a review. Though the hotel was under construction and not too big, the staff exceeded all expectations. Especially the waiters Alex and David, as well as a manager called Francis Camejo. Someone wasn't feeling well one day and 4 different waiters quickly made remedies to keep the trip enjoyable. The beach was the best out of the 5 we went to. We were a little skeptical about the security, but all drivers info was ta... Read more

The waiters and bartenders were the best I have ever met, in the seven vacations we have taken in Mexico. Humberto puc and several others took the time to teach me the Mayan language. Manuel a bartender by the , pool, even invited us to his ranch in yucatan. We like to sample different hotels when we vacation. If we return to Allegro,it will be because of the freindly staff.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time at this hotel, it was the perfect location for a relaxing couples holiday. The beach is probably the best I have ever seen, crystal clear water and beautiful white sand. The building work as previously mentioned did cause some minor disruption to the food available and noise in certain areas of the hotel, but did not in any way spoil the holiday. Having to pay for wifi did not bother us, we used it as a way to spend time together and enjoy everything aro... Read more

I have to admit I was quite apprehensive about my holiday to Allegro Playacar having been informed about the building work and seeing some of the reviews on here. When we first arrived at the hotel there was quite loud drilling occurring in the lobby area, but honestly that is the only time it "annoyed" us throughout the whole stay. The work is being carried out mainly in the lobby, meaning the main buffet is now by the pool which I assume is usually the aqua bar. This is fine as its plenty big... Read more
