" I have stayed at different Hotel/ Resorts in Playa Del Carmen and this hotel was horrible, from the food to the pool and service , We went with a group of 8 and I personally did not have any problems with my room, so the location and the room was ok, but the problem with all the other rooms where ridiculous, the air did not work in two of the rooms, and the hotel was full so they could not move to another room, then the safe in both rooms got stuck with the belonging in them, they had to stay in the room for hours until they could get the safe unlocked, that was almost noon before they could get out to enjoy what was left of the day, I ask the manager if these two rooms could be compensated in some way , the answer oh I will look into that, never happened, finally after 2 days of no air in one room they where going to move them next door to another hotel??? the Buffet area was extremely HOT , and the food was not so good, the so called swim up bar and pool was absolutely disgusting, dirty, the tiles in the pool that had been replaced in many many areas where repaired with epoxy ,all uneven very tacky and some of the un-replaced tiles had GUM in them and mold around the swim up, every afternoon there was tons of KIDS sitting at the bar so you could not even get a drink, we had t get out to get one , one of my friends cut her toe on the tile . The bar tenders and the pool did not speak very good English and could not communicate very well, but overall they where nice , but did not know how to make the basic drink, and they had a bad selection of alcohol. So read the reviews and believe them, I should of went with my gut this time, It was our friends first experience going to the riviera and I don't think they will return which is sad. the beach is beautiful but that is it. It's in a good location but they really need to invest in upgrading the pool and find a professional pool company to clean it , and to repair the problems. I do not recommend this place. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!"

"My daughter and I enjoyed ourselves, beautiful water, nice pool, pleasant surrondings , however, we were disappointed in the food it was abundant but not very good. Occasionally, the service made up for it.

Our room was on the water, small but nice and clean but we ended up with a king bed when we booked trip for two doubles.

My biggest complaint is the sales people for Occidental's vacation club. The staff at this desk located at the main area of the resort was relentless in their pursuit of us EVERY time we passed by. I repeatedly stated that we were not interested but they didn't stop trying,whining about making a commission, offering cash to take the 90 min trip/tour to the larger resort. Honestly, this behavior alone will keep me away from this and any other Occidental property.

"This resort has a lot of positives, but it also has a lot of negative qualities. First of all, the staff was amazing. We can't say a single thing bad about the staff. Second, the beach at the Allegro was awesome. It wasn't crowded and it was a nice well kept beach. We liked the quick twenty minute walk to town on the beach, too. That was nice. We also upgraded and had free soda and cans of beer in our fridge.

The food at the resort was one of the biggest disappointments. The food selection is definitely not very "kid friendly... or for the picky eater. The Italian restaurant had a good steak, but other than that there wasn't anything the whole week that anyone in my family wanted more of. Even the breakfast food wasn't good. This was a common theme in the discussion from most all of the people we met. The food was bland, etc. I'm not sure if it was just the simple case of being made in bulk, or if it was cheap quality.

One thing my husband liked was that it wasn't very crowded. I would say that if you are older and are simply going for relaxation purposes this might be a good spot for you. Some other things we didn't like were: the fridge in our room wasn't cold, the air in the rooms did not work well, the facilities were a bit older/outdated, the pool seemed to turn a lot of the blonde in people's hair greenish, as well as our clothes, etc that were white, and we thought the entertainment was lower quality. The kids disco at night was good, our children enjoyed that. It was more the adult show/entertainment that wasn't very good.

Overall we would probably not return to this resort. We believe we purchased the trip at a low price, but we wonder if we would have spent just a little more could we have gotten a better experience somewhere else.

"We are a family of 4 and just finished our vacation. We all had an excellent time at the hotel! The beach is the most beautiful one I have seen, the sand and surf, perfect! The decor of the hotel is the stuff movies are made of and the staff will know your name and treat you like royalty! The rooms are small by most standards (we were lucky to book 2 rooms for the four of us), the beds a bit short and not very soft at all. The air conditioning struggled to keep the room cool. The thatching of the roof has some small openings and you may very well see a chameleon on the wall so if you can't go with the flow, you may want to reconsider this location, but we had a great time enjoying this beautiful place and exploring the area and we are ready to return!"
