"Overall, we had a great vacation, however the customer service of the front desk hotel staff was unsatisfactory. We booked a room with a king sized bed and when we arrived, the first room I was given had 2 pull-out cot style beds in the room, not even a real bed! When I returned to the desk, I was told that this was all that was available to me. After a refusal to accept the room, we then were shown another room with only one double bed; still not what we booked. The supervisor at the front desk told me that they were full (which ended up being less than 50% full while we were there) and there were no rooms left with a king bed. When I then asked to talk to his manager, he then told me that he 'found' a room with a king sized bed. All week, our room was kept well cleaned by the staff, however, it was very old and tired and very worn down. We also booked all inclusive, but were told that we were not allowed to use the resurants that were in the El Moro tower; we had to go to the adjacent hotel Castilla, for all resturants. We booked specifically at the Moro hotel to be able to use the ameneties at BOTH hotels, and paid more for this. We confronted customer about this and the reply was that there were certain 'Levels' of all-inclusive which was something that we were never informed about when booking our vacation, or when we checked in (which is when customer service said that we should have been asked a second time, to decide if we wanted to pay more to 'upgrade' to be able to use the services in the El Moro tower). When booking all inclusive, I would have assumed that all-inclusive is just that...all inclusive, not SOME-inclusive. Upon checkout, the front desk tried to charge us for consuming 3 bottles of water from the room, when the same bottles of water were handed out freely all over the resort - again would this not be part of all-inclusive???
All in all, the rest of the resort was great. The service at the pool was fantastic and the food was great. The service in the resturants is a little slow at times. Pool and pool area was very clean.
Due to the lack of customer service from the supervisors and managers, this however has done enough damage that I would NOT reccomend this resort to anyone and would not return to El Cid in Mazatlan. We previously stayed in El Cid in Riviera Maya and Mazatlan El Cid was a 1 out of 10 compared to the other resort!!!"

"Loved the place with one exception. The resort is beautiful, clean, nice restaurants, good food, nice rooms, and nice shops. There was plenty of variety. The staff was exceptional, again with one exception. The negative was that the service poolside I would rate maybe a 5 on a scale of 1-10. The service on the beach was deplorable!! A Zero! This may not sound like much, but when you are pushing 60 yrs old laying in the hot sun, waiting for 55 minutes after having tipped and asked 3 times for a drink - it was. Especially after this happened the day before. That day after 25 minutes of waiting for my drink - I had to pack up and go down the beach to another server. The day before that, I was poolside with not great service. My son who went with, but was not sitting with me had his own stories of poor service. Only near the pool and beach. 3 out of the 4 days there, the service was awful! With all that was great about the place, it left a not good feeling to us . As there are many choices to stay, I am not sure I would go back again."

"I thought this all-inclusive was a good deal for the money. The hotel had a lot of people (mostly families and couples) but didn't feel crowded and wasn't loud. The room was clean. The food was pretty good although I do not recommend the Italian restaurant. The staff was wonderful; very friendly and helpful. The beach was not as good as the all-inclusive we stayed at in Cancun, but the pool was much nicer. We didn't go to the beach very often...there was only a small area with chairs and the view of the ocean was blocked by all of the beach pedlers. My biggest complaint was with the beach experience being ruined by person after person trying to sell me fake sunglasses for $50. We were only there for 3 nights and we were perfectly content with the pool, but if you are looking for a true beach experience I would suggest Cancun or the Gulf side."
