"Our group was unsure about an all inclusive hotel. but after 10 minutes of arriving at the Rui Palace, we determined that we made an outstanding choice. The staff is what really made this a huge value. everybody was kind and greated us like family. The food is outstanding. you have so much to choose from. Our group determined that the buffet was the best fit for us, as everybody in the group had their own choice of foods. but the quality level was more more a high end resturant than a normal buffet style. The pools are outstanding and i loved the fact that the pools are seperated by 'fun' pool and 'quiet' pool, to keep the party people at one end of the resort and the 'resting' group at the other end.
over all this was the best value of any hotel deal I have stayed at. I would highly recomend this to your family.

"Had an amazing time at the Riu Palance. Staff was VERY friendly and very accomadating. Very clean rooms. Only problem I had was being in a room close to the cleaning services, so it made it difficult to sleep. However, the RIU hotel was able to change our room after the second night we were there without a problem. LOVE the RIU!!"

"We loved our stay at the RIU Palace in Los Cabos. The hotel was lovely & well maintained, grounds are beautiful and the pools are great with plenty of comfortable lounges, towels & umbrellas. View from our room was fabulous and the stocked fridge and booze bar (part of the all-inc) were appreciated. Food at the main buffet was good (breakfast was excellent). Restaurants are a little tricky to get into (7AM waiting line) but not too bad. Very friendly staff. Nice beach and close to town."

"Visited from Apr 5-13/2013. I was curious to see the difference between the Sante Fe(went two years ago) and the Palace. The difference in booking typically varies from $400-$800 and The differences I recognized were this. Resort size, premium drinks(although you do have to specifically ask), poolside service, rooms were slightly larger (again on just your typical booking without upgrading),food was slightly better and most eating areas were slightly more convenient. So if you want to save a few pennies the Sante Fe is wonderful but consider these upgrades and their personal value to you as you consider the Palace which was also wonderful. No regrets for myself either way! Oh and by the way if the pool water is cold ....ask they are heated but don't always have on....the evenings are cool so the heat was much appreciated in the pool!"

"The food, beverages and accommodations were outstanding. Excellent overall property, well maintained with very friendly staff. The TV;s were outdated and the lack of cable services for hockey programming were seriously lacking.(had to go off site to watch) The fitness centers were clean but the age and maintenance of the machines were in need of improvement. The Sante Fe property had a more useable fitness center although limited. Overall, we enjoyed a very relaxing, warm vacation."

"My wife (31) and I (28) had an amazing 4-nights at the Riu Palace. The staff was the most friendly I've ever witnessed, the food was great, the drinks were great, and the room was great. Everywhere you looked someone was cleaning, and we never feared for our health or safety when at the resort. The weather was perfect too. Everyone seemed so happy at the resort, both the staff and the guests.
We had no complaints at all really. Yes, the beach is unswimmable, but the pools were amazing and you can travel a couple miles up the beach to swim if you really wanted to. We're already thinking about our next trip to the Riu with friends and family!"

"It was a wonderful resort. I am glad I read the reviews and used them to make my choice. The only problem I had was the room we got was heavily smoked in and when questioned they said all rooms were non smoking. This one was definitely smoked in and they would not trade us to a different room. We left it open for 2 days which helped but they did not want to fix the problem. The food and drinks were good. It was very clean and well maintained. I would go back."

"The Rui Palace was a delightful resort. It was immaculate and well attended to at all times. The staff was exceptionally attentive. The only problem we had was that when we went to make reservations to their specialty restaurants, they were booked for the entirety of our stay. When we did attend the one we were able to obtain a reservation for, it was not full. I believe people make reservations then don't show up. It would have been nice to know that we could have tried to get in after those who made reservations were seated. I would highly recommend the Rui Palace and we look forward to another trip next year."

"I would rate the Hotel Riu on a scale of 1 to 10 as a 6.
Everything was mediocre and the food, except for breakfast which was OK,
was less so. We had two lunches and one dinner at other restaurants which
were very good. I thought the location of the hotel was very nice and the service was good too. But we have been going to Mexico every year
for the last five and the Hotel Riu Palace would rate lower than all the other
ones we stayed at. We would not go back to the Riu Palace.
Also the Hertz rental office had only one person to do the paperwork for
giving out cars. And he was a trainee. Needless to say it took an hour
to get the rental car. And I was third in line.
Oh yes, what they call a midsize car is a compact in the US.
We barely got our golf bags and luggage into it."

"We recently got back from a week at the RIU Palace. It was wonderful, and I would highly recommend it. The place was incredibly clean, there were constantly people keeping the place spotless. The staff was always more than helpful, and always willing to do whatever they could to make our trip more enjoyable. The food was the best i've had at an all inclusive. Obviuosly it's always different than 'American' food, but good selection. My only complaint was that the music at the pool was almost elevator music, kinda a little boring for us, but I guess that's what some people like."

Every aspect of this resort is wonderful from the pools to the nightly entertainment.. "My girlfriend and I went there for the second time because the first time we couldn't ask for anything better. Well, when we got to the Riu Palace at 3:30 P.M. the room was not ready. I asked for a room on the 2 floor and was told by staff that they only had rooms on the first floor. I knew that wasn't true so I went back up to the desk to discuss it with him further. As I approached, he was giving another couple a room on the 4th floor. After having a discussion with him and waiting for 45 minutes he told me that the only way we could be on a different floor was to pay him and extra $50. per night for the same room and view. After further discussion, he relented and gave us a room on the second floor without any extra charge. I found this very upsetting. We were not in our room till 4:45 P.M. So to say the least, it did not start off on the right foot. The hotel is very clean and nice. I felt that the staff person could of been a little nicer and needs to be retrained in customer relations."

"This is a beautiful and really well-maintained hotel with amazing staff. We had a great time and were treated very, very well. We arrived on the 13th and were greeted by 3 days of bad weather, including a hurricane! The staff was exceptional and the hotel was incredibly well maintained despite the difficulties that the weather presented.
While the grounds are exceptionally well maintained and our room was kept beautifully, we will choose a different hotel for our next visit to Cabo. We're fully mobile, but the hotel was very poorly laid out - it's hard to find your way, there are lots of dead-ends, and there are HUGE staircases EVERYwhere (the elevators are few and far between and hard to find), so it's not an easy place to navigate. Access to the beach and ocean is also limited and difficult...which we really hated (we're beach/ocean people.)
So - while we had a great time, enjoyed the food and were treated very well, we'll choose a different hotel the next time.

"We went to Riu Palace in Cabo October 15th - 19th, 2012. Had there basic room, Ocean View Jr. Suit. We landed in light rain as hurricane Paul was on it's way.
Our shuttle from the airport was EPIC. They were pretty good easy to find, but the driver was a little speedy on the wet roadways..
Open Arrival at Riu Palace we were greeted with drinks and had a very smooth and quick check in. We were given our keys and general information about the resort, the bellboy took our bags an we headed off to find our room.
We were very lucky and landed a room centrally located which worked well for us.
Ate at all the on-site restaurants and I must say we didn't complain. It is not expensive gourmet food, but it is pretty good. We really enjoyed San Jose as well as Krystal. It was my boyfriends birthday, so when I booked Krystal I let them know and they surprised him with a small cake and sang him Happy Birthday.
The staff really went out of there way to make sure we had whatever we needed at all time and if special requests were made, they fulfilled them to perfection.
This resort has *A LOT* of stairs. We didn't find the elevator until our 2nd to last day, mostly by our own fault, we never really considered looking for it until our legs were so warn out it was getting slow moving up the steps.
Property is beautiful. Very well kept. The layout is really open, so when it rains, it gets everywhere. They tried really hard to keep the water at bay while we were there, but they can only do so much. We didn't mind. Just laughed if we slipped and accepted that we would be wet. Your on vacation, you have to let the little things go or you won't have any fun. We took walks in the pouring rain, and where woken up by thunder to see one of the most amazing Lightening Storms I've ever seen.
The A/C is fab. Room services choices were so-so. Everything in the hotel room was really tall/ high. Daily Turn down service was nice.
All in All, I can't wait to go back. Rain or Shine, Riu is great."

"we stayed from sept 10 to the 14th. upon arrival we were greeted with a drink it was so refreshing because it was very hot. We got our room and was not so please with the view so we requested another room and they had no problem doing that. we got the perfect room and we started our vacation very soon after. the buffet is great, the staff is the best!!! they made sure you had everything you needed to make your stay very well worth it. The restaurants we got a chance to try was great!!!! we didnt get a chance to go to the mexican one but others stated that it was good. The pool was always clean and even tho it rained one morning the staff was all over it making sure the water on the floor was dried up. I read a previous review that stated that the rooms would leak when it rained. that is not true. the resort does have open dining areas so of course when it rain those spots are going to get wet. other than that everything was great. the transportation to and from the airport was great, i would recommend booking that along with the resort it was so much easier, those timeshare people in the airport will try to get you. We had access to santa fe which is next door and there service was also great. the night clubs are also good they play a variety of music. overall the vacation was awesome and my boyfriend and i would def return. "How anyone can give this resort any type of negative reviews is beyond me & you have to be high maintenance to not enjoy every aspect of this resort.
This was our 2nd trip in 3 years to the Riu Palace in Cabo San Lucas. Both trips were absolutely amazing. The staff work 24 hours a day to clean & make sure the resort is in tip top shape. Our room was cleaned spotless every day & we even received a surprise turn down service one evening along with little Hershey Kisses. Each day our bed was decorated with some type of towel design or rose petals. Our drinks were always replenished when she left from cleaning.
The pools were wonderful & clean. Very refreshing. They have ropes along the beach to make sure the locals don't get too close trying to sell you something which was great. The guards who monitored would blow the whistle if they got too close. They had 2 lifeguards for the entire week so you could swim in the ocean if you chose too.
We got a couples massage & it was super relaxing & well worth the money. The stores accepted both Pesos & US currency so that was nice. Room service was superb & yummy. The food was never ending, stocked & tasted great! The drinks were strong this time around & the bar staff was fun.
We are already missing this resort & cannot wait to return!!!! The Riu Palace is where it's at & booking online is a fabulous way to book your trip. This is the 3rd time we've done this & have zero complaints!!!"

"This was our first trip to Cabo, it was our 50th anniversary, the hotel and staff was excellent as was the room and view we had the Junior suite with a ocean view, how ever the room, was right next to the Lobby and above the nighty entertainment, Very noisy every night. The TV screen picture quality was fuzzy our entire stay. I would not return because the beach water was to ruff and the sand very hard to walk on. The pools where nice, but I perfer the beach."

"This was our second experience with the Riu chain of hotels; the first was in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
When I called to confirm our reservation, two days prior to departure, the Riu staff had no record of me in their reservation system. We had requested two ocean view Jr Suites side by side. Eventually it got sorted out so we were upgraded to an ocean front, which was terriffic.
Having said this, I need to share my disappointment in a few things considering that this is a 5 star hotel: 1) The gym equipment needs replacement as the cardio stuff malfunctioned and the weights (machines) are rusty and squeaky; 2) The TV screen was old box style vs. a flat screen and the picture quality was fuzzy throughout our entire stay; 3) The internet connection was outdated and made any communication with the States very difficult and tiresome."

"Overall we had a great time. However, there were a few snags/misleads along the way.
First, when we arrived in Cabo, there was a problem with one of our transfers to the hotel that took about 30 minutes to remedy. On the whole, not that big of deal.
Second, we booked a Junior Suite - Ocean View as did the rest of our party. This WAS NOT an ocean view. We were put in a room facing the hotel next door's pool. I we leaned out and looked left, we could see the ocean. We were able to change rooms to one that was better but still not OCEAN VIEW. We were finally able to switch to a room that was an ocean view, which they call OCEAN FRONT on the 4th day. Of course we had to pay the $50/day upgrade fee.
Third, the staff didn't seem to understand that they should be quiet in the early morning. We were awoken two days at 6am by carts and tables being moved on the tile floors outside.
Fourth, our transfer back to the airport wanted to pick us up 4 hours prior to the flight. Well, having been to Cabo a few times before, we knew that we would be there way too early and have to wait for a couple of hours in a HOT airport."

"Hotel was excellent. Best all inclusive I've been too. Very clean place. Would definitely come back. Room was exactly what we ordered. Didn't use the massage credit, because prices were $200 for a massage. Went into town and got one for $30.00. Would have rather have had it at the hotel. Maybe they can remedy that for more business in the future.
Did have a problem with communication on transfers from hotel to airport. "

"The hotel is very nice. The hotel itself is very beautiful and the staff is fantastic! The views around the hotel and the shoreline are amazing. Upon arriving, there were several other people checking in and we were greeted with drinks, which was nice touch after traveling. We were there a little before the check-in time, but received our bracelets and went to have lunch at one of the buffets overlooking the ocean.
The entertainment staff is wonderful playing games that are fun to participate in and watch with prizes awarded to the winners at the evening show. In the evening there is usually some type of dance show. One night they had a game with 4 guys competing, which was entertaining and appropriate for adults but not necessarily for everyone. In the early evening hours, there always seemed to be some kind of interactive show for kids under 8 or so.
We ate at several of the restaurants, but mostly at the main restaurant. The buffet was good and had plenty of good things to eat and a very good variety.
We went to Riu Sante Fe next door and were able to get drinks and partcipate in activities without any problems.
The things I think could make it better are the following.
- The Junior Suite has two double beds which are pushed together (as if it is one big bed). They state the room sleeps 4-6 (my guess is with a sofa bed). If you have two children over ten, this is likely to make for cramped sleeping. This is a great room for a couple with the king bed option. With two kids over 10, I would get a bigger room.
- The pool water is generally warm and comfortable to enter, but not necessarily cool. It would be nice to have the temperature a little cooler to feel like you're getting cooled down on a hot day. Around the pool, is covered in tile. Of course everyone is putting on sunscreen and when it gets on the tile and it gets wet the tile is extremely slippery. Maybe a sunscreen application area or tiles with better traction around the pool would help. In the sun, the tiles are very hot and unless your feet are wet make it uncomfortable to walk on without retrieving your footware. During the time we were there the daytime temperature was easily over 90 F with some days up to 96 F. Cooling the water may not be an option if the temperatures stay high and obviously the tiles are likely to be cooler.
- Free wireless is only available in the lobby area and is limited to 90 minutes per day. The connection is generally pretty slow and makes it difficult plan activities and check email without running out of time. Generally, I think that in today's day and age nearly every hotel should supply free wireless throughout the hotel. You can purchase wireless minutes card from a vending machine, but if you activate it in your room, it may not work in other areas of the hotel.

"The Rui Palace is absolutely AMAZING!! Came for my 5th aniversay and we loved it! The food was so good...I couldn't believe the great quality of the buffets and the restaraunts were great too. My only advice....reserve your dinner reservations as soon as you get there! There is usually no same day reservations so you have to plan ahead.
I would definately recommend this to anyone...families, singles, party groups..there is something for everyone here!"

"I have been all over the world and this has been the best vacation I have ever had. The staff were attentive and well mannered. The hotel was always clean with no sign of insects such as cockroaches or mosquitos. We went all inclusive and even though the gratuity was included I was tipping everyone. The food was excellent and the drinks were free. This place rocked. I only have one complaint which is we could not get a direct flight there. The two an a half layovers were a drag but that is a small thing for such a wonderful vacation."

"The Hotel was beautiful with a classic old world style. Beautifully maintained grounds. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The entertainment staff is wonderful. They make you feel very welcome and are a lot of fun. The shows put on in the evening are by far the best I have seen at any resort I have stayed at. The drinks were good, and the food was average to above average (sorry, but not great). The rooms could use some updating. Furniture and appliances were dated but everything was clean. I would stay at a RIU resort again."

"'This is my first time staying at a RIU Hotel and I must say that the RIU Palace Cabo San Lucas is tops in my book'. When I arrived with my wife and son we were greeted by a waitress who provided fresh fruit drinks. The lobby staff though could have been more welcoming, but the rest of the staff made up for that. The hotel is beautiful with two pools and all the food and drinks you can have. Very clean and close to shopping via taxi or bus. I recommend this hotel to parents with children as well as the couple looking for a romantic getaway. All in All I would come back and stay here again. A"

"Wow! What a great place! Everyone at Riu Palace was so friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to give you great service every step of the way. The food was fantastic. Steak and lobster tails, great sushi, amazing seafood, I cannot say enough good things about this place. They have two infinity pools with swim up bars, great entertainment staff, beautiful facilities! I am already planning my trip back. We have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts, but this is easily the best! If anyone rates this poorly they have no clue..some people just can't have fun! Stay here and have a great vacation!!"

They have great restaurants with a great variety. The hotel staff was very friendly and efficient. The room itself was a junior suite and I was really nice, with a great view and a mini bar fully stocked daily. We recommend this hotel to everyone. It's was a great experience and we look forward to booking our stays in other Riu Hotels across the country in the near future."

We thought booking in Novenmber of last year and being there 2 years in a row we could get the same room we requested with a good view, but the one we got was in the corner the view blocked by palm trees and the spa and gym area. Lot's of weddings so alot of the restaurants were booked for wedding parties, hard time getting a place. We had a wonderful time and the weather was great."

"We just returned from our 7 day trip. Overall, we had a great time - the grounds are immaculate and beautiful. It is a HUGE resort - yet never really felt large. Our BIGGEST disappointment came when we checked-in. We had specifically reserved 2, ocean view, adjoining rooms (1with two double beds, and 1 with a king). After a long day of travel, the last thing you want to hear is, 'We do not have ANY the rooms you requested available'. WHAT? We were given 2 rooms no where near each other, both with double beds and with 'garden views' (the rooms overlooked a WALL!). Exhausted and frustrated my husband and I wheeled our bags over to 'our' room - only to discover that the room was already occupied! They actually gave us the keys to someone's room. Ultimately they found another room for us to stay in for the night, then we were to change rooms the next day. We were NEVER given the 'adjoining' rooms. Only one of the rooms had an ocean view. The view was beautiful! The rooms are clean and a nice size. BE WARNED: the beds are extremely FIRM. The pillows are flat. They've covered the mattresses in some kind of plastic that makes sleeping on the beds sound like your sleeping on a diaper! We had to call the front desk almost daily because around 11-12noon each day our room would be overtaken with a horrible 'raw' sewage smell. Nothing was ever done to rectify the problem. We were never given an apology or explanation to any of our 'room disasters'. Why did I pay of 7 nights of ocean views for 2 rooms and only received 6 days in one room? The gym was a disappointment. It's very small. Only 4 treadmills - really only 3 work. The food was plentiful. The 'reservation' restaurants were the best ~ only there were crazy rules about how to make reservations. Reservations for Krystal (the best) can only be made on the same day - and open at 7am. We were in line at 7am with 3 other people and were told there was only one open reservation left. Huh? Then other restaurants you could make a reservation for up to 3 days in advance. We wanted a vacation where we could relax by the pool. We got that. We loved the look of the resort - HATED the beds! My husband suggested that if we go again we should run over to Costco and purchase pillows and mattress pad. Why don't the Mexico resorts get a clue? Nothing beats a good nights sleep! The halls are noisy! Perhaps if the beds were better everyone would sleep better and there would be less complaints about the hall noise."

"Hi, This was our fourth trip to Mexico over the past 25 years. Normally we've gone to the Cancun, Playa del Carma but this time we chose Los Cabos. I had sworn that I would never go to Mexico again but I've come back a changed man. The resort was worth every penny. Cleaning at the hotel was non stop. Everyone there worked really hard and usually had a smile on their face to boot. As usual, the food gets a little boring and the a la carte restaurants are not great but they are a change. If I was to do it again I'd book the Japanese one a few more times. My son had the beef at this one and it was better than the 'steak restaurant' or any others. Beef is really not a Mexican strong suit. We got the Jr. Suite Ocean view and it was perfect. There's one floor higher and I am sure the view is that much better but the 3rd worked well for us. We had 3101 and 3102 and they were shaded for the whole day (March 31-April10). We never used the air conditioning, just the fan and were comfortable the whole time. Sound does travel in the hallways at night so I'd recommend you use a towel under your main entrance door. With the patio door closed it kept most of the outside noise out. The pool and service around the pool was really great too, not to mention the 'entertainment crew' that kept things going all the time. At night there were some great shows and skits. We would definitely go again. I'd probably go to a wine store or Costco first next time to get some wine. If you enjoy red wine there supply will not suit your tastes. All in all a pleasant surprise. Oh yeah, you should go to town a time or two. Prices are higher than I remember...and check out Sammy Hagar's bar the Cabo Wabo but watch out, his Tequilla is deadly good. Later."

"We have been to Mexico a few times, but this was our first all-inclusive. I was very impressed with the cost. The food was amazing-lots of choices. The steakhouse was great. I don't eat meat, but the prawns were awesome. Exceptionally clean-there is a maid at every corner and someone is cleaning or maintaining the grouds at all times. Pool was great and staff was so friendly. Drinks were offered everywhere and they are not cheap with their alcohol. The waves are amazing at this location-huge. Only downside, was you have to walk down the beach a little bit in order to swim in the ocean. We will be returing, with our kids next time."

"Overall, my stay was a good value. It worked out to aboiut $1500 for four nights, including $675 in airfare and a rental car. So the hotel portion was only about $175 per night, including meals, tax and even liquor. I had a nice junior suite on 'quiet side' facing the 'quiet pool.' Others have complained about the tacky double-beds shoved together, but it did not bother me. The hotel is exceptionally clean. The staff was helpful and courteous. Food was abundant. Unlimited choices it seemed at breakfast and the buffets. However, the food in the mass setting was ordinary and often 'hot' foods weren't hot at all. The upscale 'fusion' restaurant, where I ate twice, had gracious and efficient service and the dishes were very good -- what I imagine would pass for gourmet in a small town. It did not match New York or LA standards for a real foodie experience, but heck, they tried hard. My complaints: no valet parking? seriously? also, the limited self parking was way out of the way and best accessed via the loading dock, which I did. That's just not right. Wi-fi was OK in the main lobby. Only one public computer in the entire resort and it was almost always in use. The fitness center had the best views in the place but the equipment was dangerously old and cranky. The survey asks if I would return: probably not. I would try either a boutique hote in the middle of everything, or one of the proper golf resorts. But I would recommend to someone looking to camp out in a cruise ship type environment and just relax for a few days for a reasonable price."

"The resort overall was very large and beautiful. You never felt like you were in a crowd. The food and drinks were adequate and some very tasty. The Japanese restaurant was good. The selection at the Krystal was kind of shaky. They don't serve cream with coffee, only leche (milk). The beds were indeed hard but comfortable. The staff could not have been any more professional, accommodating or friendly. Entertainment could have been improved somewhat. Take a trip to the Arches. They are a great natural wonder! Saw whales, sea lions and many pelicans. The beaches are beautiful but you can't swim in the water. Undertow is very strong. Beware of the peddlers beyond the white rope. They don't really bother you if you just say no. The only negative we had was some noise 2 of our 4 nights. First there were a few spring breakers left around and they were quite noisy. Also, in the middle of the night loud radio music woke us up. The halls contribute to the transfer of noise, I think. Want to mention the weather in MARCH. The early am is chilly but the sun is intense. By 11 am the sun is high and its pool time. Being in the west, the sun sets earlier than in the east and it quite cools down by 7:30. There is absolutely no humidity and your hair will look fabulous! Now, for a clothes alert. Don't bother with lots of flimsy sundresses for evening. There is always a breeze and it will seem chilly without being covered. A nice summer weight jacket or sweater. Colored lightweight jeans and great shoes will work well. I took 3 nice dresses and ended up wearing one and was cold all evening. Well-tailored better sportswear will always looks fashionable, and of course great shoes and a nice bag. Leave all the clunky jewelry home, too. You are there to relax."

"This was our second stay here so you know we must have liked the first stay. The main difference was last time was in the summer and the pools were much warmer as were the evenings. The first day we tried the 'family pool' since that was on the side of the resort we were assigned. The water was freezing. I had read that most resorts in Cabo rely on the sun to heat their pools so I was bumbed about the likelyhood that every day would be like this. The average temperture was under 80 degrees and this wasn't going to warm up the pool. The next day we went to the larger pool and were very excited to find it was heated. This was much better but it was still quite cool when you got out. Enough about the pools. One thing you should know is that you had better schedule the specialty restaurants when you first arrive if you want to dine anywhere other than the buffet. They fill up quickly. Even though we did this, the only specialty restaurant we were able to get into during our five night stay was the steakhouse at 8:45 PM. The steakhouse is outside and by that time of the evening, the loud caberet show is underway and just above the steakhouse. What a noisy dinner."

"Loved our 7 night stay. The staff was prompt and friendly! Excellent entertainment crew! They entertained us at poolside and in the evening. We had so much fun and can't wait to return. The only drawback is that you must book dinner reservations early in the morning or a day or two prior to be able to get the reservation. Also note, there is no swimming in the ocean in front of the property. If you take a water taxi tour from the marina, DO NOT have them drop you back on the beach in front of the hotel. It is extremely dangerous as the current/undertow is so strong. We saw people falling and going under water & one broke his leg. It's worth the $12 ride from the marina to save your camera, purse & broken bones!"

"Just got back from a wonderful vacation in Cabo! This resort was very clean. The landscape was beautiful and the staff were constantly cleaning throughout the day. We had read previous reviews on this site as well as many others and people had complained about the food, smell, and noise level at the resort. FOOD: We thought the food was pretty good. Of course you're at an all inclusive resort so it's not going to be 5 star restaurant quality, but for all inclusive food, it was good. I'd give it a 3-4 stars out of 5. There were a lot of options for every meal and we really liked the steak house restaurant at the palace. SMELL: we didn't notice a muggy smell at all, although a couple that we had met there agreed with previous reviews and they could sense it. So I guess that just depends on your individual senses, but either way, if it was noticeable, it was not significant in any way. NOISE: the noise is really the only thing that I would agree with in previous reviews. It wasn't because other vacationers were being loud and inconsiderate; the noise came from the staff pushing carts in the hallway and people talking amongst theirselves..just poorly built, thin walls are to blame.
The palace was a good time, but entertainment/party wise it didn't seem as exciting as the Riu Sante Fe next door. My boyfriend and I are 25 and 30 years old and we thought it was a little blah at times; just not a whole lot going on at the pool and sometimes the entertainment at night was boring. So, if you're wanting more of a 'college spring break,' go to the Sante Fe. But if you want a more intimate, relaxing vacation and don't mind a little older crowd, the Palace is the place to be. Both were nice, but I will say the architecture and landscape of the Palace was definitely more beautiful and elegant compared to the Sante Fe."

"Outside of our room everything was amazing. The food was great, the staff were friendly, the place was clean. However, our room smelt. I called the front desk and they told me just to put on the air-conditioning. I later found the source of the smell was the mold in the box spring. My new wife went home with a lung infection. "I was highly disappointed in our room. We were there October 21 thru the 26th, 2012. Paid for ocean view. When we paid for an oean view in Jamaica last year in 2011, it was a great view. we were well pleased. In RIU, Cabo San Lucas, we were on the first floor, with palm trees as our view to a little bit of the ocean. OCEAN VIEW, HAHA! When I said something when we checked out about talking to a couple who with another couple, who also checked in on Sunday, like we did, paid the receptionist a 'bribe' they each got moved up to a better floor. Of course the manager said we do not do things like that. REALLY?????. EVERYONE HAS THEIR HAND OUT - BELIEVE ME!!! I AM DONE WITH THE RIU RESORTS. IT LEFT A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH."

"This hotel is awesome! Extremely clean and friendly. The staff is constantly cleaning something. 9 out 10 bartendars were very friendly. The value was great and ALL the food was fabulous. I must warn you about the safety of where you walk. I don't mean muggers, I mean that the tile is extremely slippery. I witneesed someone slip and cut his head open requiring stitches. Another women did something severe to her knee. People were sliding all over. Even on dry tile. The shower is dangerous because you must step high into it and back out onto the tile where you need 2 bath towels."

"Probably the best vacation experience we have had including cruise trips and all-inclusive resorts. Everything was perfect including the weather---always blue shy, no clouds or rain. Only one need to improve and that is the broken air conditioner in the resturant Krystal (outstanding food!) but it is so cold I had to go get a jacket. The help can't know how cold it is as they are in long sleve shirts with a jacket but guests were mostly very cold! The resort is so clean and well maintained it is hard to believe! Great resort, and outstanding service---thanks, Dick and Betsy"

"My husband and I went on vacation to Cabo, Mexico during April 14-21 of 2012. This was our first time enjoying an all-inclusive vacation. The hotel was very beautiful and well kept. The staff was always prompt with their services. The room we stayed in was a garden view room with two beds pushed together to make a king size bed which we thought was strange. The room was muggy and at times smelled bad. It also came with a safe where we could keep our important documents and money. We had accidently brought $2,000 with us, not knowing that my husband and I each put $1,000 in my purse before leaving. Both $1,000 were held together by yellow $1,000 markers. However, the safe was not a digital safe where you can punch in a random numerical code; it had a physical key with a rope attached, meaning we had to take the key with us everywhere we went. This was an annoyance considering we did a lot of activities outside the hotel and could easily lose it, so we decided that we would hide the key in our room in a safe place. All was well until the last day of our stay. On the last day of our vacation, at around 230pm, my husband and I decided to take a walk on the beach, get a henna tattoo retouched and lay out for a bit. Before we left, we counted our money to see how much we had left (we had $1,400 US dollars) and put it back in the safe and hid the key in a pocket of a dress in the closet. We tucked the key in nicely so it was out of view. We had promised our henna tattoo guy that we would get him a bottle of water because it was a really hot day. We came back to the room around 320pm, laid around for about 20 minutes before we left again to give him a bottled water. We came back to the room at about 5pm, got ready and went out to dinner at 6pm. We had some spare time after dinner before the nightly entertainment started and decided to check out the Santa Fe next door. We went back to our room at about 8pm to grab some money just in case and that's when we realized our money was gone!! ALL OF IT! The yellow $1,000 markers however, were left behind. We called hotel security and they came to our room with a machine that checks our door slot as to who came into our room while we were away. They keep a log as to who enters each room at what time. They found that at 351pm, a hotel employee came into our room to restock the bar/refrigerator. Other than that, nobody else besides ourselves entered our room between 2pm and 8pm. This guy went through our personal belongings, found the key and stole all of our money. We went down to the Director of the hotel's office, and told her our situation. She could care less! She did absolutely NOTHING to help us in any way. She said that it was our fault that we should have taken the key with us everywhere we went. She said that the hotel policy does not cover stolen property unless there was damage at entry. She also said that there was no proof that the employee stole the money and that she doesn't think that he would steal because all employees know that there is a log kept as to what rooms they enter by the key they use. She basically was telling us that we were lying! She told us that the only way to do anything about this was to make a statement to the police. We asked if she could call the police to come to the hotel and were told that unless there is violence, they will not bother to come. So the assistant director of the hotel, and another employee drove us to the police station through back roads with no lighting at 9pm at night. When we got to the police station, he wrote our statement for us in Spanish because nobody at the police station spoke English. While we were there, another cop came walking in with an AK-47 machine gun! We thought we were going to die. Luckily, we made it out alive and came back to the hotel where a cop followed us and then told us that we needed to go back to the station to make it an investigation. There was no point in doing that because we had to leave in 12 hours to go to the airport and we knew that the hotel and the police were not going to take this matter seriously and pursue it. Plus it was really scary and dangerous. We had no choice but to leave without anything being done about it or ever getting our money back. Because the hotel is not taking any action about this matter, it basically encourages their employees to steal from paying and trusting guests at their hotel. They said that there was no proof, then why did security tell us the exact employee down to his name, that came in our room at 351pm? The money did not grow legs open the safe and walk away. There IS proof of exactly who took the money! If the hotel had handled the situation better, maybe it wouldn't have been that bad, but they are a billion dollar chain and they handled this matter like shady business people. I will never recommend this hotel to anybody. My husband and I went there based on other peoples' experiences there that we knew and decided to stay there as well. I am also writing their corporate headquarters a letter about our experience and the lack of compassion, professionalism and ethics that the employees stand by. It makes me sick that they could get away with something like this. The employee got away with burglary and will still keep his job because the hotel director will not take any action against him. If this happened anywhere else in the world, I believe that this situation would have been handled a lot differently."

"We had ordered and paid for a king Jr. Suite Ocean View and when we got to our room we had a garden view. We callled several times down to the Mgr. & all he could say was they were completely booked. It took 2 days calling Book it and a fellow there finally got us moved to an ocean view. In the listing on line it stated that we would get a hydro tub with the ocean view but we did not get that either. also, we never got our $20.00 spa credit. We requested disabled for my husband and by elevators which we got with the garden view but when they finally moved us to an ocean view the walk was so far it wore my husbands legs out. The ice was 3 floors down stairs not available by elevator and no fan in the the bathroom. The beds were hard as a rock and they did not let us know we could not drink the water until the 1st night I did and then they charged us a phone fee to call the Doctor. Will find a new place next time as fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on ME!!!! Lastly, The water taxi about drowned me taking us back to the Riu after a cruise the cabi told me to jump off into the water and the wave took me right under the boat and my purse and smartphone got soaking wet and ruined and a couple had to come rescue me!"

"We had a great trip with our family. Only disappointments were:
1. The beds / pillows very uncomfortable. Very firm and makes sleeping comfort almost impossible. Also we were told we would have king beds in all rooms and were given two doubles pushed together.
2. The representative from book it.com at the hotel was very unprofessional. Took several long phone calls while my husband was already sitting in front of him arranging our transportation back to the airport. Stopped talking to 'leer' at guests walking by several times. Was unkept. Gave my husband a lecture on timeliness of booking our return transportation instead of being helpful.

"A pair of shorts that I forgot and left on the floor were taken by the cleaning help. However the resort staff addressed the issue, sent a note of apology and offered dinner at one of their restaurants.
The refrigerator stock person did not come on the weekend, Saturday and Sunday. We were out of Diet Pepsi and water by Monday morning. We didn't complain about this but had to ask for pop and water the first thing Monday morning, rather than wait for the usual afternoon stock person.
Overall, the staff at this hotel is fantastic!"

"This was my first time at this hotel. The property is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. The food was great except for the Steakhouse. The service and food great. My only complaint was the fact that I had to call housekeeping several times to refill my refrig and coffee. The rooms were very nice and the maid did a fansastic job. The property is exceptionally clean and the staff was very attentive when called upon. My first and not last visit to this hotel was a great experience and I would suggest this resort to everyone!"

"We spent 5 days/4 nights at the Riu Palace ... great experience, will absolutely return. Went down for a work trip, spending the first part of the week at the Palace then heading up the corridor to the Hilton for work. The Palace was great - got in early, but room was ready. They gave us an ocean front room (don't know if BookIt helped with that, but it was wonderful!) even though we only booked ocean view. We were right on the beach, 2nd floor. If I had a complaint, it would be that the huge palm tree outside our balcony blocked the view of Lover's Beach ... a good problem to have! Room was nice - small, but clean. Bed was a rock, but with enough drinks, didn't really notice. Staff was great - friendly, appreciative of tips, but not begging for them. Also appreciated my horrible attempts at speaking Spanish. Most of the guests we met were friendly as well. Food did get a little tiresome by the end of the stay, but was tasty. Ate at the steakhouse one night, OK steak, but thin cut ribeye is always going to end up overcooked. Beer selection was somewhat limited, I think I have Dos Equis in my blood now, but it didn't really slow me down. Was glad I brought some nicer clothes for dinner - people do dress up enough that you might feel out of place if too casual. Pools were great, swim up bars excellent. Bringing a large insulated cup seemed to be a great idea - lots of people with them. Service was good enough that after the first few drinks (and a tip or two) you never really finished your drink before another was ready. Cabs around the area are expensive - try to minimize trips or share a ride to Cabo San Lucas with other guests. Walmart is walkable, but get good directions before you set out.
In terms of value, we think this was an absolute great deal! We were at the Hilton for less time, and yet managed to drop close to $300 on drinks ... more on food. And work covered 2 evening receptions and a dinner! All in all, the stay was great - wonderful views, nice people, decent food, lots of things to do, and plenty of time to simply relax. Highly recommended!"

"The view was beautiful, the pools were nice but the food was OK. It was advertised that by staying at the Palace you could use the Santa Fe's restaurants as well. Come to find out at check-in that you could only use the Santa Fe's buffet resturants. Additionally, of the 4 resturants you could make reservations for only 3 of them were worth eating at."

"My boyfriend and I stayed at riu palace for 6days 5nights and we had such a great time. Everything that people say about the amenities and staff is true. What really stood out was the riu entertainment and the friendliness of the staff. The rooms were very clean and spacious we had the junior ocean view suite that did look out to the ocean and and we also have a view of the activity pool. I loved our room. The buffet is decent, the specialty restaraunts were great we tried krystal and the steakhouse. The nightly shows were fun and what more can I say about this place...they provide 4 bottles of alcohol in the room so you can drink in the room then go to the pool and drink some more at the wet bar. Overall this is a vacation ill never forget we had a great experience here and will definately stay here again."

"Riu Palace was a great place to stay! Be sure to make your reservations for dinner as soon as you arrive, they fill up fast! Don't waste your time with eating dinner at Krystal - it wasn't good at all. Portions were small and not very good. The Japanese restaurant, the Mexican restaurant and the buffet are all delicious! Next time I will stay in a hotel closer to the marina b/c it was $12 each way for a taxi to town. Other than that, it was excellent with a BEAUTIFUL view!!"

"Just returned from a wonderful 8 day trip and couldn't be happier. The service was fabulous. If you have the opportunity to sit in Mercedes section in the main restuarant do it! I would take a large insulated mug/cup with a lid for beverages by the pool but other than that everything was provided. Be warned that you will come home spoiled and not having a mimosa waiting for you every morning may make you cranky!"

"This was a very nice hotel with very friendly helpful staff and beautifully kept grounds and rooms. The food was good and plentiful as were the drinks but keep lots of small bills for tipping as you will be doing a lot of that. There were evening shows and some were really good but others kind of cheesy. They advertised daily activities but they didnt seem to have much entertaining there. There is a nice gym there that I used several times and the spa is decent. I got a massage that was adequate but nothing to write home about but got my hair done and loved it. The pools were wonderful and where we spent the majority of our time...which brings me to my one real complaint...the pools close at 7 pm for the night! Everyone dresses up for the dinner and evening entertainment after that so bring dresses and collard shirts. All in all it was a nice stay at a nice hotel."

"The Riu Palace is the place to stay. This was our second time there. The staff is so friendly and helpful, you are greeted from your shuttle with a tropical drink. The food is excellent and the drinks are plentiful. The ONLY complaint is the wine is terrible. They really need to work on that.
But, knowing that ahead of time, you can bring your own if you are a wine drinker. Everything else is fine. We had some GREAT meals........highly recommend Krystal and the Mexican restaurant (which is right on the water). BEST view in Cabo. Oct. is a fun month to stay as everyone is coming to see Sammy Hagar at Cabo Wabo. This stay, we went kayaking (for $20 bucks) and my sisters did Parasailing for $60 (I saw it in town for $40). We have already done all the touristy things, but if not, try them all! The Riu is top notch, you will not be disappointed."

"My Husband and I spent 7 beautiful days at the Riu Palace. Riu Palace is an extraordinary and beautiful resort. The staff there work very hard to ensure you have the best stay possible and will do anything you ask of them always with a smile (make sure you do tip them well as they do rely heavily on the tip money). The pools at the resort are where we spent the most money, especially the main pool (not the quite one) as it hosted alot of the games (water polo, water volleyball). The view as you sit in the pool is just incredible!! You look out at a majestic ocean and listen to the waves...simply beauitiful! I would definetly recommend this resort to everyone --and also go for the ocean view room as we did as the view is amazing in the morning and in the evening. To hear the waves crash is peaceful and relaxing which is exactly what a stay at the Riu Palace is."

"Just got back from the Riu Palace and I have to say this was one of the best places I've ever stayed. When they say all inclusive they mean it and it's with a smile too. The staff was so great and the place is immaculate. People are cleaning round the clock. There are no rules. Sure the pool closes but they never kick you out. They just wait patiently for you to be done so they can add the chemicals to the water each night. We had the best time here and met a bunch of really great people. We will definitely be back. The food was really really good though I got tired of the lunch buffet after 5 days. That's the only negative thing I have to say. Everything else was A , off the charts. We ate at 3 of the 4 a la carte restaurants and each one had great service and wonderful food. The view from the pools is amazing. I can't imagine going to Cabo and staying anywhere else. "

"Recently returned from a week at the RIU. What a lovely trip. This vacation was what we all DREAM of when we think vacation. Pampered, well taken care of, clean = spot on service. We left the resort to go into town, husband golfed and I got a massage. Golf was @ 75 us and the spa was well priced and top notch service. Ask for the massage overlooking the beach. Took the water taxi over to lover's beach. Didn't need to leave again. The only recommendations, gentlemen must wear slacks and sleeved, collared shirt in the french and Japanese restaurant . Make dinner reservations with the concierge as early in the day as possible. We went for 5 days, I could have stayed a week. The beach in front of the hotel is not recommended for swimming but the quality of the hotel more than makes up for this.
Note - if you stay at Palace, you can visit the Riu Santa Fe next door - drink in the bar and eat at the buffet. If you stay at the Santa Fe, you do not have privileges at the palace.
I want to visit another Riu Palace property "

"We stayed at the Riu Palace in Cabo San Lucas and were abolutely impressed with the friendly service, food, cleanliness, spaciousness, and complete relaxation of the resort. This was our first real vacation in 13 years and it was the best choice for us! We truly enjoyed ourselves and look forward to returning soon! Thank you Bookit.com for making our getaway truly wonderful! Only one thing we wished we were informed of prior to boarding our transportation van from the airport were the 'timeshare' salesmen! "I booked RIU palace for my wedding expecting that we, as the bride and groom would be treated with some special service. Seeing as how we brought 30 additional guests to the hotel. NOPE! They booked us in a room with 2 beds. I complained 3 times and nothing was resolved! They were pushed together so I slept in a crack for a week!
Multiple people in our party and others at the hotel had money and possessions stolen from their rooms. Everyone in our group had stomach issues for some part of their trip. Reservations are soooo hard to make so most ending going to the buffet as a last resort."

"Overall, this hotel is a good value for money.
We enjoyed the facilities and found it relaxing and fun.
We were disappointed in the Beach in front of hotel. It is not suited for swimming and is extremely dangerous. So, not a place to go if you want a nice beach to swim in. Of course, you can take a water-taxi to a nearby beach and you can find great swimming beaches, especially 'lovers' beach near the 'archo'.

"awesome vacation!!! went on a group trip (my wife, my brother and his wife at the end of august to celebrate my wife's birthday and had a great time!! the staff at the riu palace were great!!! everyone was very friendly and the support staff at the front desk were extremely helpful whenever we had questions. the food was very good and i advise on booking the 4 restaurants as soon as u check in. the mexican restaurant was the best for our group!! we also had the luxury of having access to the sante fe which was kind of quiet during our stay at the palace. try to go downtown during the day time to get shopping for souvenirs in as their are many great shops that have nice yet inexpensive items. cabs downtown were $ 12 each way. we also went on both the margarita tour and went right by the bahas (peninsula) which is by the far the most beautiful site ever. we also went on the ATV tour which was scary since we were newbies to ATV's yet a thrilling experience. they had nightly shows on the stage area in the palace which was a great way to begin every night and get drinks and relax while still having fun. pool bars were the best!!! lastly the 24 hour bar on the main floor has the most beautiful view of the bahas especially on a sunny day. they also make a great cappuccino with a show of tequila that is an awesome way to start your day. the only negatives were the beds which were not bad but could have been better and the room temperature was always set so low that even our unworn clothes were damp when we returned home (play around with the settings). will definitely be returning here again next year!! "Very attentive staff. Food was well above average for an all inclusive resort. Housekeeping of rooms was very good, housekeeping of resort was excellent. Most everyone in the resort acknowledges you, and genuinely cares about your satisfaction. All of my needs and wants were quickly attended to.
This is a very engaged staff that create a memorable experience.
The 4 to 8 foot waves crash right on the beach, making ocean swimming near impossible, but the 4 pools allow ample water time. There is one row of rooms near the dumpsters that don't smell great, but the aroma is concentrated to that one area. Was definitely not a resort wide issue, and I know for sure that people were moved from those rooms upon request. Neither of these issues dampened our experience."

"My best friend and I went to the Riu All-Inclusive after graduating last summer! Normally, we are the type of people that get overly excited for things, and hype everything up so much that realisticly, it would be nearly impossible for anything to fully meet our expectations. But, to our surprise, this vacation was far beyond anything we could of ever dreamt of! With me being such a neat freak, I was so pleasantly surprised with how clean and well kept everything was! The staff were all so sweet, and attentative, and the resort was absolutely breathtaking! The rooms were just as beautiful as they appeared in the pictures, and the pools were so relaxing! We were there for six days, and wish we could have stayed longer! We didn't even have a need to leave the resort! I do not have even one compliment! We'll for sure be coming back next summer! "

"I dont' have a single bad thingt to say about the Riu Paace in Cabo. Amazing Service! Kudos to you and managment for running such a wonderfun experience. I miss everything about this place and sadly, had to return home. You make VACATION truly a 'time off' experience. I was so pleased with everything from my room service to my maid service, Every restaurant experience was wonderful, (we tried all the specialty restaurants). The only thing I can 'complain' about was that my drinks were too heavy. We went w/ some friend, (13 totoal) and our young adult children. There is somehting for everyone here. Even the vendors past the rope on the beach are mindful. I will certainly look forward to returning here. PS-for others traveling, be sure that you visit during the 'off ' season, May - July as outside excursions get even more amazingly cheaper! This is my fourth RIU experience and each time it gets better!"

"Great hotel, friendly staff and amazing waves. We spent 12 days in November 2010 and this was an amazing vacation. The food is very good with a lot of variety. The Japanese restaurant was our favorite. We went 3 times and everything was great. Ask for a room on the quiet side if you're there to relax. For more excitement, I suggest you go to the Riu Santa Fe where the clientele is younger and more vibrant! We are going back this year!!"
