I just came home from an all-inclusive week stay at the Barceló Beach Ixtapa (January 22 -29). I will start by saying the resort itself is gorgeous, though rather small, and the beach is fabulous! My only beach complaint is that there are no palapas. Palm trees are lovely, but they do not always provide the needed shade that a palapa will. Just another money-making scheme, since you then charge for a beach umbrella. Also, regardless of how nice it looks that the chairs are laid out so perfectly... Read more

This is a topnotch resort which would be deserving of 5 stars but for the quality of the a la carte's & the watered down drinks. We just returned from a week with 3 other couples and all of us felt the same. Rooms and amenities were great, as were the pools and staff / bartenders. But the drinks were generally very watered, although there were some exceptions. The buffets were average (at best), but the "a la carte's" really disappointed us. Options were very limited and food quality well belo... Read more

I want you to know that much like you, I read many a review prior to going to this property and it appears there is an issue with this resort. I thought some of these writer were kidding but the truth is you pay a lot of money to get to Ixtapa and then you get a room at the Barcelo with no ocean view! When talking to the front desk you are told you can get a better room for 900 pesos more per day. Still, you pay through that nose for something and you think you'll get a reasonably good room wit... Please note my "very good" overall rating. This resort is showing its age, especially in the rooms, so if you are looking for "luxury" this is not the place for you. However, in my opinion the outstanding service of everyone we came in contact with combined with the functionality and good condition of the common areas more than made up for the "tired" rooms. Think, cruise ship, as you come here for the weather, beach, pools and to relax - not to hang out in your room. Food quality and service ... Read more

We were at Barcelo Ixtapa over the Christmas Holidays. There was a big group of us together on a family trip. I am going to break up this review into sections to make it easier to follow. Dining: Although there were not many great options for food at the indoor lunch and dinner buffet, the outdoor buffet made up for it during lunch time. There was fresh fish on a daily basis, BBQ'd to perfection. For the A La Carte's ... the outdoor dinner was our absolute favourite. This was a buffet... Read more

We arrive in Ixtapa in 60 days for the month of March 2017 for the 10th time, and for all those times we never had anything to complain about, Here are a few suggestions, do not come a week before Easter to a week after Easter, Mexico shuts down at this time and the hotel is at 100% capacity. Arrive with Mexican Peso's in your pocket, when the Bellboys grab your luggage don't panic they are really trying to help you these guys are among the hardest workers in the hotel. Everyone in ... We spent a week at this hotel with our two teenagers from Dec 27 to Jan 3 2017. Although we were a little disappointed initially by the overall look of the hotel, it turned out to be a very pleasant stay. The common spaces of the hotel, such as the main restaurant, the lobby, the hallways are old and need major renovations. This is however compensated by the fact that the site is clean and well maintained. We booked two premium rooms on the 11 floor. They were spacious and had been somewhat refre... Read more

They have an antiquated air conditioning unit that is so loud! You would think a national chain would have enough money to replace air conditioning. People come to the beach to enjoy themselves, not to deal with this kind of noise.

Absolutely nothing premium about this hotel. What they call premium is worst than any other regular hotel. Of course they charge as if it really was, don't get fooled by it. Rooms are super old, elevators make weird noises plus they are super loud and you can listen them running all night. Food is terrible! We had to go out for lunch and dinner every day even when all meals were included. Just horrible! They claim to have international drinks but it's all the cheap stuff really. Bed sheets w... I stayed here the week of 11.21.16, and the check in process was less than good. There was a ton of confusion and we were supposed to be on the 10th floor, however there weren't any room so we got stuck on the 1st floor for 2 nights. The rooms on the 1st floor are not only loud as hell, but the a/c didn't work well so it was terribly hot. Everything in the atrium echos in the rooms, so you can hear people talking, dishes clacking and kids screaming. The beds were hard as concrete and the room... Read more
