The hotel is absolutely beautiful, amazingly Japanese looking, the details, wow. The gardens, also beautiful. But the service is awful. They are slow, they are rude, they do things badly. We ordered our check, it was over $1,000 pesos more than what we owed because they charged to our table, food and drinks from others. We had to send it back not once or twice, but 3 times. We ordered drinks at the bar and I am NOT kidding - they brought us the mixer (tonic water) and the glasses with lots o... Read more

The place is spectacular, the attraction is obviously the Japanese theme and fulfills that purpose. I think that for a while now this hotel has been losing category. This time we found many things that make this the last visit, just to name a few: Completely outnumbered, with more rooms than the common areas can withstand, this makes waiting 1 hour for breakfast, 30 minutes for fresh towels in the pool, impossible to find place Anywhere, etc. I went down to the pool at 8:30 and found all the c... They charge for everything, water coffee in room, we were there for a wedding, we stayed for the weekend, we paid for 30 rooms, a breakfast for 60 people and spend a lot of money in the restaurant and bar. Rooms are ok, food terrible, the breakfast ok, although expensive. The people working at the lobby, completely lack of customer service.

I am currently staying at Sumiya an definitely need to write a review. This is an example of a place that only exists as a result of no competition and its old history. Let me get started... Rooms are extremely small, way too overpriced and ridiculously old. Mattresses are just like sleeping on the ground. Air conditioning is useless . There is no free wi-fi - not even in the lobby. We are in 2016 guys... This is a commodity in the best hotels, specially when you are paying this much for a wee... Read more

We loved the Sumiya as far as the place, the people, etc. We were there to do a wedding, so we didn't have to pay, but I understand it's pricey at times. I know the diner we had, which we paid for, was pricey and not that good. The breakfast, both days, buffets, were very good, Sunday better than Saturday. The beds were AWFUL! I don't know why I don't think it's going to be different just because it's a higher priced hotel, but they weren't. It was a typical Mexican hotel bed...hard as a rock. ... Read more
