"When we first visited this property 5 years ago, it was the Reef Club. We really didn't notice any significant changes except no art on room walls and the addition of mini fridges. The sewer smell from the bathroom sink is obnoxious and they DO tell you not to drink the water and provide you with plenty of bottled water, which I fount unusual for this type of resort in Mexico. We love, love, love the ocean front rooms that let you right out onto the beach--the snorkeling is amazing on calm days. The activities are ho hum, so if you want more than lying around in the sun drinking and hanging out (which we don't!) you may not love this place as much. Very disappointed that the buffet restaurant was not open at night, as that is the best of their restaurants as far as variety goes. The service in the fancy restaurants was terrible, but I guess that may be what you get during off season. ALso, it is annoying that the guests at Secret can use Sabor's restaurants but not vice versa. Secrets is quite a bit pricier due to it's adult only status and fancy rooms, but does not have as much beach or pool area. We will definitely go back as the negatives are outweighed by the beauty of this property and the proximity of the beach. Lastly, they were amazingly prompt to respond to any problems in the room and would call within 15 minutes to make sure the problem was resolved."

"This was my third trip to Sabor and it was my worst yet...no food choices and what there was did not taste very good...also I got 'Moctezuma's Revenge' this year and that has never happened to me at this resort before...the units were in horrible shape and construction was still going on...I did not get the type of room I paid for for the first two nights and am still hassling with the Resort to get the refund that I was promised...I use to love this resort but seriously doubt if I will return....spend your money somewhere else on Cozumel..."

"Our stay was nice, once we got checked in. We waited 4 hours to get into a room we had reserved 5 months ago. The front desk lady was less than friendly and avoided us every time we walked by. The food was okay. We were tired of all the mexican food after day 4. It was the same each day. Limited restaurants on the resorts. The resort was under quite a bit of remodeling. They should just close it down and fix everything at once versus working through peoples vacations. We smelled sewer quite a bit walking through out the resort. Some people heard jackhammers at 1030 PM outside their windows. We did not have that issue, however we did have to switch rooms twice because they weren't ready for us. Cleaning ladies were exceptional. Everything was spotless. The beach was amazing. Cleanest and largest beach that we could find. Great snorkeling and awesome kayaking. Would go again now that we know where to go out for dinner. Alcohol was cheap so we didn't drink very much of it since the quality wasn't any good. They did not have 'top shelf' products. Mostly Dark Eyes Vodka and of the sort. Regardless of inconveniences we did experience, we made the most of it and had a blast. Hopefully our next stay will have the needed improvements we were expecting."

"Had to ask 4 times to be moved to a different room. Our room reeked of sulfar smell. There was a dirty bandaid in the shower. Water was leaking up from the floor drain in the shower.
Food is boring and few items were good. Snacks through the day was cold French fries and watery cheese on chips. Got sick from food.
The promised $200.00 resort credit is a joke.
Had to run water for 20 min. just to get hot water, then it ran out quickly.
Far from newly renovated. Constant construction going on.
Few eateries to chose from."

"We were booked to stay at Sabor for the first week in April. We instead upgraded to Secrets on our second day, and that proved to be an excellent decision. The extra money was well worth it for us.

Our first impression of the resort was the open air lobby, with torn and dirty cushions and pillows on the lobby furniture. It did not appear that the "upgrades... had occurred in that area.

We found Sabor to be very basic in terms of amenities. On the plus side, the pools are nice, and the beach lovely. The staff is friendly, but this is not a place you will be pampered. The staff is courteous when you approach them, but they do not go out of their way to make your stay a positive one.

The food is average, as are the drinks. There is nothing special or noteworthy about either of these. Restaurant choices were limited, in part due to the construction. At the buffet there was difficulty keeping food at the proper temperature, or keeping food consistently replenished.

We had our room changed, when the first room did not have working air conditioning. Our second room had been renovated. It was about the quality of a room at a Holiday Inn. The bathroom, however, reminded me of the facilities at a church camp. That coupled with the sewer smell when you ran the water were significant negatives for us.

Before traveling, we had been alarmed by the negative reviews, and actually had a conference call with the front desk and our representative two weeks prior to our stay at Sabor. We specifically asked about the construction and were told that all construction had been completed, and all restaurants were opened. It was disappointing to arrive and find that was not at all the case.

As others have noted, Sabor is not a four or even three star resort. Rather, it is a solid two star property. Our vacation was wonderful, only because we had the opportunity to remedy our mistake quickly and move to Secrets.
