Very good location, close to everything in the hotel zone. Right on the beach with all suites with ocean view. Clean and large rooms for the family. Very friendly staff. Good concierge services too. Very good small store with everything you can imagine available, cheap enough to not having to go to a store.

All rooms suites on the beach. Room was spacious and well maintained. Staff was excellent. Close to downtown with buses running every 15 minutes. Grounds very well maintained. Sheri, our concierge, was the best. The only negative had nothing to do with the accommodations, but rather with going through customs. It took 2 1/2 hours. If you land between 1 and 5 pm expect a loooong delay.

We just got back from a week at the Royal Islander and it was a great time! The entire experience, with just a couple of minor exceptions, was top notch. I give you the good and the bad The Good: - The suite was fantastic! We had a two room suite which was perfect for the four of us, Nice big deck that faced directly out to the ocean. Spent a lot of time relaxing out there. - Service from everyone was very friendly. They spoke very good English, which was very nice. - The time of year was act... Read more

Nice pool and pretty grounds. Needs more activities. The first night dinner was tasty, but we waited almost an hour to receive our food and then was told we needed to go to the food bar to tell the chef what we wanted so that he could prepare it. We were not happy birds. Gave them another chance, and my lobster and steak dinner was served cold. I believe the manger's name was Ricardo. No help.

We decided to travel to a different part of Mexico this year. We exchanged our timeshare week for a week at the Royal Islander. We really enjoyed staying there. Everyone from the front desk to the cleaning staff were excellent. The pool, swim up bar and beach areas were nice. The beach is not really swim friendly. The surf is rough and not for inexperienced swimmers. We rented a car for the week and there was plenty of parking close to the front lobby. The convince store on site had everyt... Read more

I had a very nice vacation with my family June 4-11, 2016. It started rough with a lot of rain. There isn't a whole lot to do at the resort when it's raining so luckily the rain stopped after a few days. I wasn't impressed with the lobby but check in was quick and easy. We come to the Royal Carribean or Royal Islander at least once every 2 years for at least 2 weeks. Although we enjoyed our vacation, I felt like the Royal Carribean could use some more maintenance - not sure if that is because that resort is going to be sold in 2018 and they are just not spending the $ for upkeep. Also, there was a noticeable difference in staff- only one pool server at best and sometimes went for an hour or more with out seeing even one. The staff that is there is mostly friend... Read more

Don't get sucked in to the sales presentation; the $250 USD savings credits are nothing more than online discount vouchers for products you probably don't need or want. What a waste of time.We went in for member updates and were told we wouldn't get the promised $250 gift card until after we had done a tour of the new Royal Residences half a day's time away. The rest of the stay was fantastic.

Overall, it was a decent place. We got a great deal on one night, so used this resort for an extra day of vacation. The beach is fantastic, the pools are nice. Overall the rooms were fine, if a bit dated. The resort was very accommodating in letting us store our luggage and such from checkout till our shuttle to our condo arrived. The food was ok, nothing truly awesome. Prices were good. As we were only there overnight, they didn't subject us to the timeshare spiel.

I traveled with 3 of my kids (ages 16,13,8) and was so worried about what tours to book, is the hotel ok, food safe, pesos or dollars?? The Royal Islander is an amazing place! Practically all rooms face the ocean and the pool is fantastic. There are daily activities for adults and kids. Piece of adv... Read more

We recently stayed at The Royal Islander Resort in Cancun and had a wonderful vacation. The resort is located in the Hotel Zone and the location is perfect! It's a great place for adults and children alike since one has access to the beach/ocean or the many different swimming pools. The rooms/suites are very clean and spacious and the view from the balcony is spectacular! We will definitely stay there again!!

I booked this hotel due to the condo type room- it was great space. HOWEVER, as soon as you come in, you get greeted by your "personal concierge" (ours was Angel). Once we told him we were not interested in the time share speech, that was the last we heard from him. Unlike a hotel, you need to locate a concierge-type person to help you, as they are only really staffed in reception. We told several people we were interested in the "free" water sports at the Royal Cancun (2 free shuttles- an hour ... Read more

This hotel is bad , they do anything just to take your money , only one ATM with US$ , rate so high , policy is bad. When you buy anything you can't pay cash they will charge it in ur room even the supermarket. Far from center, if you go to gym you'll pay for it ??? I never seen paid gym in the hotel you are staying in ? To be honest only one thing is good in this hotel , the working lady in reception her name Lilian.

Made reservations for Grand Carribean and upon arrival we were downgraded to the outdated Royal Islander due to them giving first priority to their members. The RI has been our home away from home for the past 13 years, we come twice a year and never tire of the resort, the warm people, the beautiful atmosphere, fantastic food, cleanliness. There is nothing bad we can say about staying at the RI. During our week #43 vacation we had a family emergency back in the USA almost as soon as we arrived at the RI. We called upon Mr. Moreno to help us work through what needed to be done with our family emergency and there is no doubt he went above and beyon... Read more

I stayed at the Royal Islander for my birthday with my friends. The hotel was located in a great spot and for the most part was very nice and clean. However, if you stay past Saturday, they make you move. They moved us into a room that had not been cleaned yet and didn't care how upset I was at this. They had no remorse and I was very disappointed in how the hotel and front desk staff chose to handle this.

Stayed for 6 days on a family vacation. Property was well maintained and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Located on the beach and just off of Kukulcan Boulevard makes the Royal Islander very conveniently located. The surf can be a little rough at this end of the island, but we didn't have any small children with us so it didn't bother us at all.

Great place to relax. Only a few steps to the ocean and pools. Staff is excellent. Rooms are well kept and maid service is excellent. Plenty of good food options at the Islander, Caribbean (next door), Captain's Cove and Poncho Willies across the street. Also across from the resort is the Maya Museum, interesting exhibits inside and fantastic walk around the grounds. Beaches are clean and the service at the pool is much better than the beach but you can't beat the view sitting on the beach.

We had a beachfront room, so with the view of the ocean (and falling asleep to the waves) it was hard to ask for more. Staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Navigating the public bus up the strip or into Cancun city was easy. Shuttle to other resorts was also handy. Plenty of poolside chairs and palapas at the beach when we were there. We were guests and met many members; all very friendly.

It's a good hotel in the 80s/90s US-American hotel style, well-maintained though. The hotel is crowded with Americans (my guess >90%) who are on average above 60 years old. So if you don't mind to feel like being in a US retirement home with bingo events in the pool, the hotel is good for you.

We have staying here for 8 years now . The staff stays the same and all are so helpful and friendly. The resort is clean and in good repair. the foos is always excellent . In fact we only go out to eat and use the restaurants connected to the Royal Properties. We love the restaurants of Captain's Cove,Hacienda Sisal, and take out dinners at The Royal Caribbean also.

We've been owners for almost 20 years, and have come to Cancun once if not twice a year. The resort remains a beautiful property/area. The property remains well maintained and housekeeping services are excellent. Can't really say the same about the restaurant/bar service. They used to treat us like returning family and now it 's more like we're a bother and they could care less if we were there. No one checks to see if you need anything else etc.

This property is big enough to accommodate your needs without losing its friendly charm. The availability of on-property fine dining (El Conquistador) was especially nice. The concierge was responsive and attentive without being overbearing. All the staff had good English skills. We took advantage of the online grocery delivery to our room. It was very nice to arrive and have basic groceries already there. Travel to and from the airport with Thomas More was simple and safe as well.

***Quick note for runners: the main road in front of the Hotel (Blvd Kukulcan) is well lit with nice wide sidewalks. I recommend running south--you get some great beach views, a nice bit through mangroves and good hill work! Going north is a little flatter, I think, and goes through the commercialized areas, but is also lit with sidewalks*** What an experience! My mom is a new owner, and she and I spent her week here. In a word, wow. The views are unparalleled (I think every room has an ocean vi... Read more

We have been staying here for many years. Our stay never fails to be a delightful experience. Staff is unfailingly helpful and accommodating. Friendliness abounds. The facilities and our villa are always in excellent condition and we truly enjoy the available dining options. The food is always of the best quality. We look forward to our stay the entire year and are always sad to leave.

We spent two nights here in early November. the rooms we had were quite nice, with good views of the ocean. But keep in mind that this is not a hotel but a time share. When you check in, a woman who calls herself the concierge, will insist on accompanying you to your room on the pretext of showing you how things in the room like the A/C work. You'll then be subjected to a 30 minute sales pitch. she'll offer you a bunch of freebies (breakfast, etc) if only you'll sit through a "presentation". I c... Read more

Generally great service at the Islander, best beach with ample palapas and pool chairs. Very clean resort and the maid service is fantastic. Beach service also great, food good there. Buffets just okay. We went out to eat most evenings off resort.

Excellent service and clean facilities is common for this resort. We would comeback next time when ever there is availability. The access to all Royal Resorts facilities is priceless since my wife loves to visit the calm waters of The Royal Cancun. Royal shuttle is a bonus!

we just returned home from 4 days at this resort .. It was beautiful and the pools were fantastic. It was so clean and the view and beaches are amazing . We were able to rest and relax . The only thing I did not like was the buffet breakfast I found it not good and didn't feel well after . It is a very quiet place if you want a party go to Playa ..

Ideal for a quiet relaxing break. I don't normally stay in resorts, but it was a welcome change to have everything on your doorstep. Suite was very spacious with a huge balcony and gorgeous views of the ocean. Sea seems quite rough and not suitable for swimming. Grounds are very well maintained, and buffet breakfast was lovely with lots of options. Stayed with friends (average age late 20s) while the majority of guests staying here seem to be 50/60+. If you looking for nightlife however its ... Read more

These time shares are great but the restaurant is mediocre so you'll be cooking in your room or out looking for somewhere to eat. Just remember that Cancun now has a big influx of all inclusives and they ruined the restaurant scene. But there remains a few good places.

Great location, with superb service. Spotless resort outside and inside. Outstanding maid service. Everything was over the top. Restaurants, pool, and service just perfect. It made for a great week. We had an A/C vent break ( rattle Noise) at 11;30 pm. Within 15 minutes a repairman showed up and it was fixed. Every employee wears a uniform. NOT a single insect in Cancun so don't worry. Angel our advisor was great.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to stand beneath Niagara Falls? How about standing next to an open fire hydrant? Ever wondered what it's like to be hosed off in a prison shower? If so, this is the resort for you. Water pressure is no issue. In fact it's so good you get to take a shower and a bath at the same time, every time. If you're not careful about sealing the shower curtain the whole bathroom can be your tub too! No need for soap, this shower is in constant pressure washer mode. It j... Read more

Decent hotel with beach access and facilities available at the different resort group hotel. As it was still off peak, it was fairly uncrowded and thus able to enjoy some quiet relaxing time. Staff were very polite and helpful.
