"We LOVED the Secrets Silversands Resort in Riviera Maya!!! Our Preferred Club room was huge and always kept clean by twice daily service. Oceanfront view was spectacular. Food was delicious everywhere, and required NO reservations. (This has been a problem at other resorts!) Also, they seemed far more relaxed about men's attire in the restaurants. I saw nice shorts and jeans, but it was still fine. Nobody was poorly dressed. Best breakfast buffet ever! Staff was incredibly attentive. Games and other activities were plentiful if you wanted to partake, but personally I did little of that. Loved that you could barely walk 12 feet without running into a bar or pool...now that's a vacation! :-)
Lotsa people looked to be honeymooning, or were very amourous. But nothing really inappropriate. I guess that's just what paradise bring out in people.
Even the gift shop was full of great things! And it was SO FAIRLY priced, vs. other gift shops at luxury resorts we've stayed at. Trust me, I've been to several 5 star resorts in this area now and THIS was far and away my favorite!!!
ONLY complaints?....maybe slightly inconvenient that I didn't get good wifi reception, except in the Preferred Club Lounge. But really, we shouldn't be checking in with emails anyway, right???
And one other minor thing is there was no thermostat to control the room temperature. But the good news is when it felt too chilly, we just opened the door. Worked like a charm! And it was never EVER too hot in the room!"

"Secrets Silversands was a great experience for us. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The food was excellent especially the rack of lamb and the salmon at Ratatouille, the beef steak at Bourdeaux was a close second. Breakfast at the World Cafe provided something for everyone's taste and our hostess lways got our day off to a positive start. You've got to try the flaming coffees in the downstairs lobby of the main building. They put on a great performance and the coffee is a perfect after dinner delight.Secrets is not perfect but the short-comings are small and easily overlooked when one considers how hard the staff works to keep everything looking good, from raking the sand daily on the beach to wiping and washing down floors. Everything just sparkles. The gym is very good, the pools are beautiful, and the rooms are spacious. Staff bends over backwards and no request is too much, they even prepared a box lunch for us when we had to leave very early for the airport and would be missing breakfast. The all inclusive, adult resort was just the kind of relaxing experience we were hoping for. PS try a 'dirty monkey' drink at the bar....fun and tasty."

"If your looking for an amazing all adult luxury vacation than book Secrets Silver Sands today!!! We have stayed at many different resorts in the Rivera and Secrets is our favorite. We were most impressed with our room and the selection of alcohol, no need to pay for the preferred club except for the rooms which are amazing. 600 square feet on living space, two bathrooms, tub on the balcony and the views of the ocean, that alone was worth every penny!! Be sure to book the catamaran trip to Isla Majures. The ocean colors were something I have never seen and it was fun to ride around the island in a golf cart. Loved the catamaran with it's full sails up and the engine on low."

"This was our second stay at a secrets resort, the first being Secrets Capri. We did not feel the warmth and comfort that we did at Capri. The pool music was loud and there were no cozy seating areas in our room or the hotel. The beach is beautiful but the water is not conducive to swimming due to the rocks. We each had a massage and I feel there is little training as to techniques. Loved the fish therapy. Do not get suckered in to the sale of the 'preferred membership' which they claim is not a time share, but it is, sort of. The positives are once again the staff is friendly and accommodating , grounds are clean and well maintained, and food and drinks are exceptional. Would return to Capri over Silversands."

"Place was very nice. Entertainment staff, especially Jay C, were incredibly good at their jobs. Pool waitresses (Veronica) were really good. Bartenders could be a little quicker. Restaurants were very good, escpecially the buffet. The shows at night were really well put together, especially the music on the beach and the Rock show. Rooms are super clean and large."

"This was our second All Inclusive trip. The resort was very beautiful and the staff was friendly and helpful. We were a little disappointed in how long we had to wait to get into our room but we were offered an upgrade and took it. Also our second night we came back to our room to find a complimentary bottle of champagne as an apology for our check in wait. The pools were beautiful but we were a little disappointed that they didn't seem to be heated as it was windy and cloudy and cool most of our days there. The couples massage was awesome and worth it. We tried every restaurant and found the food to be excellent. Our favorite was the Habatchi Grill. The drinks were very good and the poolside staff were very attentive at keeping our glasses full. Was a little disappointed that the ocean wasn't condusive to swimming due to the rocks, but the beach was beautiful and very well maintained. Our last all inclusive trip we put our wallets in the room safe and never took them out. Not here. As advertised everything was included but it was very obvious that tips were welcome. The waiters seemed overworked as we had to wait for service at some of the resaurants so we did tip. Not sure how well they are paid. Also didn't like that the grounds men cut the grass and weedwacked during the day when most people are trying to relax by the pool. Seems to me this could be done in the early AM. "

Everything was organized and efficient in terms of transportation etc. I would highly recommend the couples massage and a day in the Spa. We will definitely be back and bring friends / family with us."

"Love the place. The staff was really nice, ready to help any way they could. Great food. When they say it is an all inclusive resort,, it is. The room was big and clean, housekeeping pretty good. Like the french food, met the chef, great guy. I liked the presentation of all the cooks around the swimming pool, with food sample. Pretty cool. They could improve with first of all, free transportation to and from the airport and do something about the taxi fare. Way too expensive to go to Cancun or Playa del Carmen. The beach is so so because of rocks and coral. But over all loved it."

"A solid 4-star resort, we had an excellent time. The food was decent (not outstanding), the pools were very nice and the beach was sub-par. The accomodations were clean and the spa was excellent. Mosquito spray is a must! A negative aspect of our experience was from the constant 'nickle-and-dime' treatment...it seemed as if they were always trying to sell something. Spa credits were made as difficult to use as possible. I had a better experience at the Valentin Maya Imperial resort in the Riviera Maya and will likely stay there on future trips. Also, Best Day provided our transportation to/from the airport. They require a face-to-face meeting at the hotel to provide your return ticket; for us, this was scheduled at 9am on the day after we arrived. This was not ideal, given that we were exhausted and really wanted to sleep in. I agree with other reviewers who recommend avoiding the 'complimentary' trip to the Maroma Beach resort- it was a total waste of time and a non-stop sales pitch."

"room: we had a Jr. suite partial ocean view. PLENTY of room for 2; nice balcony; didn't spend much time in the room, enjoyed the activities at the resort all day.
meals: breakfast and lunch very good; dinner, iffy; Italian not too good; French below not too good; Japanese hibachi what you expect from any 'cook at the table flashing knives'; Best of all was the Mexican restaurant, El Patio.
staff: friendly, helpful; would take time to help you with your Spanish.
facilities: ALWAYS clean and well maintained
activitie: plenty from which to choose; never left the resort!
transportation: used Best Day, very satisfied"

"Silversands Resorts was a very beautiful resort and very welcoming from the first moment you arrive. It was very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and newly renovated. The housekeeping stayed on top of cleaning the room. It was cleaned twice a day. The resturants were very nice and the food delicious. Every resturant was enjoyable. We did not get to try the Italian resturant. There are two suggestions I have to improve the stay at the resort...1. the entertainment can be improved. 2. there should be a shuttle they offer for free or a minimal price to take guest to Cancun. The transportation is very expensive to go anywhere."

Allison from Atlanta, Ga
"We've been to the Cancun area twice before and stayed at the Valentine Maya both times. This time we figured we'd try something else. We liked the reviews and pictures as well as the mention of the heated pool (Valentine did not have this and we were not able to use the pool at all last year in Dec too cold.)
Transport - We used a great transport company named USA Transfers for transportation - it was only $60 roundtrip for both of us (you pay in USD when you get there) and it's PRIVATE - no stopping for other passenger drop offs! HIGHLY recommend them. We used Best Day before and got annoyed with them trying to sell us their trips as we don't typically do trips we like to hang at the pool or beach and read - aka do NOTHING! :)
Beach/Pool - we knew from reviews the beach was not the best at the Silversands and we were ok with that. The pool was great but you HAVE to get your chairs 'claimed' early or you won't get one. Early means by 9am - go get a towel and put in on the chair! That can be a little annoying but if you know about it ahead of time you can work around it :)
STAFF - The staff was great a consistent in Mexcio which is why it's our number one vacation spot - they're friendly and helpful all the time.
Room - The room (we got the preferred pool view) but were upgraded to the Preferred Oceanview was beautiful and the view was stunning. However, the air was not as cold as we like it and the room smelled musty after 11am - I think they know this because they give you insense and matches in your room... As far as getting the Preferred over a normal room - if it's not that much do it because you get private concierge, a nice preferred lounge area and free wifi in your room. I'm sure there are other benefits we did not take advantage of too.
Food/Drinks - The food was good but the Valentine has better food. Drinks were great - no complaints there - lots of premium licquor.
Entertainment was good too.
Bugs - if you are a bug chew toy like I am bring repellent and after bug bite stuff with you. It's too expensive at the resort and while mosquitoes were not a problem - tiny ants are. They are not in the room but love to eat you while you're outside and you won't even know it until you look like a human pin cushion :) BTW - this happens in every tropical place I visit so I honestly do not consider it anything to do with Silversands. In fact the place is kept very clean and groomed.
Trip to visit other property -
DO NOT sign up to go to the Maroma for 1.5 hours for a sales presentation about their club unless you want a nice tour and a SEVERLY HARD SELL on their 'club'. It's not a bad idea if you want to give them a crazy amount of money up front for the next 40 years of vacations but honestly...who is prepared to do that? !
SPA - AWESOME best massage I have ever had!
Overall we had a great time We would return here though and I give it an overall 4 out of 5 :)"

"Beautiful resorts. We were upgraded to a swim out room, which is actually the pool right out your sliding glass door. Loved my room, and the personal products from the shampoo to the shower gel were some of the best. This was our 6th all inclusive in Cancun and this one is in the top 2. I did have some issues, but don't know if it was the food or just over indulging in alcohol ;). Didn't have to wear wristbands, which was nice. Bar staff was awesome.thanks to certain staff and others whose names I can't remember. The grill by the pool had good cheeseburgers and chicken sandwiches, watch out for the birds though. Pool was a little cold. Our room was a nice location. The beach wasn't a great beach for this area, but we still had fun and besides the water was colder than I expected. Food was great. I can't believe people on here actually complained...breakfasts was very good and staff was always greetiing everyone with smiles and made the perfect omelet. The smoothie corner was an added plus. I loved the theatre, they do have some talented singers and dancers. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation just to eat drink and be merry this is up your ally! If you are looking for more of a party seen and lots of getting wild you will be bored to death. Alot of people were there for their honeymoon and I actually saw a wedding. I love the Mayan Riviera area and the Mexican people are the friendliest out of all the cruises and all inclusives I have ever been to. This is a 4.5 diamond resort and it really is. Best sleep I had in forever. Wow..can't wait to go again."

"We planned to do nothing but relax. This was a first for us. No excurisions, no activities. Just be. We did alright. Details get missed. No welcome champagne. Had to locate room ourselves. Not a good first impression. Room was beat up. Not the desired place to just stay. Overall staff was pleseant. Work hard to please. Always asking if everything is good. Not wanting to complain - just went with the flow. Chairs all get reserved early, tough at times to locate a spot. We do our best to always enjoy our precious time together. Our first 'Secrets' was much more enjoyable. I'm sure we will try again. Like the Adults only option."

"I traveled with 2 other female friends in late October. From the moment we were greeted at the door, with cool towels and champagne, to the day we left, cocktails before boarding our private van....this was one of the best vacations we have been on. Driving up to the entrance, you may question..Once through those doors, you are their guest. The personnel from guest check-in, concierge, wait staff, housekeeping, room service and entertainment crews are amazing.
The property is maintained beautifully. Clean and very floral. You can find your way around within a day.
Plenty of pool(s) space, chairs...no getting down to beach or pools at 6 AM to get chairs
The restaurants are wonderful, with no reservations. Only one exception, is the Japanese restaurant is you want to sit at the table where chefs cook for you!!! Wonderful, went there twice, not a problem with the reservation. The buffet was plentiful with many choices.
I have to say, the highlight of our days, by the pool,, was the fabulous and highly energetic day crew staff. AWESOME! If you want to partake. We introduced ourselves from day one, and they knew our names from day one, our likes and dislikes, we never really had any. We took advantage of everything! The bartenders and staff at pools/beach..wonderful. We brought lots of 1$ for tipping (even though gratuities included) You do get a littlle special attention. Not only at pools, but bars and restaurants.
A special thanks to the Secrets Management..we were at the resort when Hurricane Sandy hit state side. We had a choice of being stranded in Charlotte NC, for 2 nights, not being able to get to Boston, or staying at Secrets for those two nights. They were very helpful with extending our stay at a very reasonable price.
The only rwo negatives, is the beach at Secrets. The beach itself has sand like silver, but the water is another issue. Not their fault...rocks heading into water and lots of seaweed. They do a great job, keeping up on seaweed washed up
Secondly, all these resorts, have other properties to visit. Not in the terms of time sharing, but worded as premium club, if I remember correctly. It is to have you sign up..We choose not to go. Wasn't a problem. That may be something one would be interested in.
So in ending.....a wonderful time. Weather in the 80's, sunny (only had 5' of rain one day.) Would definitely go back...

"Overall our stay at the Secrets Sandlewood was good. We went there understanding that the beaches weren't the best so no surprise there. The staff was very friendly and courteous and customer friendly. The ocean front room was awesome and the maids left rose pedals in our room everyday. Oh, we also really enjoyed the fact that it is an adults only resort. The guests were made up of a lot of europeans, british and canadians from their 20's to 50's. We were not sure what to expect being adult only but it was very classy and nice not to have kids around. The food was above average but I would have liked to see more emphasis on fresh (not previously frozen)seafood. Also the snack bar had hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and nachos. It would have been nice if they had something different such as a fish taco bar or fresh seafood cocktails or quesadillas. The entertainment crew did a great job and the entertainment was excellent particularly the dance crew. The shuttle service (best day) is separate from the resort but has a location inside the resort. They were very unfriendly and got upset that we didn't show up the next morning after our arrival ay the hotel so that they could sell us activities which we didn't want. I recommend Secrets have their own shuttle service that they operate. We would go back to Secrets but probably the next time at Maroma in Playa Del Carmen.

"This is our first time at an all inclusive resort.
My partner and I are in our mid 20s and we chose the resort because it was adults only and had a nice modern clean design to it.
A note for the gay couples or groups. There were not that many gay couples (about 3-4 during our 7 day stay) and they stay mostly to themselves. People stare as if they've never seen a gay couple (and I actually mean the guests) and it can get uncomfortable at times, but all in all it was gay friendly. The resort staff however were super sweet to us. To be honest, if you are looking for a gay friendly area I recommend Tulum because there were so many down there and the beach to soooo much nicer there.
Population
------------
Late 30s and up (more towards the older end)
Mostly honeymooners, anniversaries, and birthdays.
90% white 10% mexican or spanish 1% asian generally
Entertainment
----------------
Daytime (volleyball, horseshoes, etc) Depends on if you like socializing
Nighttime - highly variable. If youve seen large scale expensive shows such as Cirque or Broadway then you might not be so impressed
Entertainment Team - great group and everyone loves Jorge.
Rooms
--------
We upgraded to preferred for 50 dollars a night. Was it worth it? I don't really know. I didn't stay in the room much so the view wasn't a concern so the benefit was the lounge which I didn't really stay in. They have 2 computers and a printer which is great. The bar is good in the lounge because they make drinks you cant get at a normal bar. You get to skip the line to check in and check out which is a major plus actually because it can take quite some time to check in and out.
We had a bad experience with our first room on the first night because it smelled horrible and it was on the second floor so we could hear the pounding footsteps above. The room was a bit dirty as well. When we requested a room change the next morning it was done very smoothly and quickly. Our second room was much much better.
Food
------
Hit or miss (fries were stale at all restaurants and room service)
World Cafe = standard breakfast fare but great!
Seaside Grill / Ocean Grill (lunch) = mediocre
Bordeux = best
Portofino = good
Mexican = depends on if you like traditional Mexican flavors
Himitsu = mixed and small portions
Ratatouille = empty and not so good
Room Service = seriously hit or miss ( chicken soup is good though)
BEACH
---------
This depends on what you want to do at a beach. If you want to wallow around and sit or swim in the water then you will NOT like this beach.
As a surfer I can tell you this is not a beach to do much except walk around and get your legs wet.
If your the type to like to sit at a quiet clean beach then this is a great beach because they clean it every day and the water is pooled in such a way and shallow that you can walk around and see the numerous fish and crabs that hide underneath the rocks
And there are alot of rocks. If you want to walk farther out you need water shoes. You can walk out quite a distance as it remains shallow but you need water shoes unless your feet are super insensitive to pain and cuts.
PROS
-------
The staff is amazing - seriously
Unlimited food and drink even if the food can be quite hit or miss
Clean property
Great pools
AVIS on site friendly full coverage car!! This made our vacation so much better
CONS
-------
Whatever anyone says - TIP IS NOT INCLUDED - this was not a problem for us but I heard other people complaining about it
This place can get quite boring if your like us. We discovered that we are not the all inclusive type of people as we like exploring, having more options in terms of activities. We don't get drunk every night and eat until we go into a food coma. We like being lazy for a maximum of 2 days. After that we found ourselves renting a car at the onsite AVIS and drove to Tulum beach ( Playa Pescador is AMAZING AMAZING local huge quiet white sand and turquoise water and you can snorkel with a boat for only a few bucks) and Akumal is amazing to swim with the turtles.
In short, if you are looking to get drunk and eat until you burst and sit around in the sun all day then this place is great!
If you are thinking about all inclusive for the first time and you are traditionally a more active person then I suggest you not do all inclusive or else stay here and definitely rent a car but that defeats the purpose of being all inclusive.
So for those who love all inclusive Im sure youll be very very happy!

"This was our first time to Mexico and i have to say it will not be the last. We stayed at the secrets silversands for 7 nights of pure vacation. Everything is perfect that you dont feel like leaving the hotel for excursions. Ok the swim up room could be a little better but well our pool was great to end the day since it was the last thing to get sunlight. The hotel food is just great from the restaurants to the lunch buffet you will find sth u will want more of. The staff are great, always in a good mood and always around to get that next drink....
With all the different restaurants plus room service, we were able to eat sth new everyday.
If you have a problem with sth in the room it will get fixed in no time....not like other places we have been.
The only negative thing we may have to say is that they love to take your room towels even if they r not left on the floor. Multiple times we were left with no hand towels in the room which is not a big deal since we had the body towels but i guess we just had to find sth to complain about hehe.
If you are a beach person do not expect a picture perfect beach.....lots of rocks but still nice to have the option from the other 8 pools.
Alll in all it was pretty awesome."

"We just got back home. We absolutley loved our stay!
I have been to other all inclusive resorts and the food did not compare to the food here. I loved the french and mexican restaurants the best! The nightly shows were good. And the staff was all very friendly! The beach could use some work but that would be my only negative. I would recommend this resort to friends and family. And we will for sure be back, and try other secret resorts as well!"

"My boyfriend and I travelled to Mexico to celebrate my 30th birthday and couldn't have asked to a better experience. We chose Secrets Silversands for the All-Adult aspect to better enjoy our vacation and we were pleasantly surprised not to be surrounded be college students on an extended frat party!
Being greeted with a glass of champagne was just the first of many hospitable encounters with the Secrets staff. All staff, from porters to servers, and grounds keepers were friendly and welcoming. They spoke to you as you passed in the corridors and frequently made sure that you were accommodated with anything that you might need to be comfortable and happy.
We had the opportunity to try all of the restaurants on-site and were continually impressed with the food. Ingredients were fresh and prepared to order, helpful since my boyfriend has a food allergy! The service was a little slow during between dinner courses, but our servers were always attentive despite the kitchen delay. We took full advantage of the pool side service for lunch, ordering from the restaurant, but having it delivered to us in our lounge chairs so that we didn't have to get dressed and go inside! And the fresh guacamole a the poolside grill was the best I've ever tasted.
We fully enjoyed the endless service of top shelf alcohol service. We had a lot of fun experiencing the 'drink of the day', sampling the infused tequilas, and discovering the bartender who made the best best margarita!
We booked several spa treatments throughout our stay; facials, massages, and aromatherapy pedicures. Though we didn't request it, all of our treatments were performed in adjoining rooms so that we could enjoy them together. We also took advantage of the hydrotherapy spa before and after our treatments.
Overall, we very thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Our suite was spacious and romantic and the trip was relaxing just as we hoped it would be.
Maybe we will be back for our honeymoon in a few years!"

"This was the first time my husband and I went on an all-inclusive resort. We had the best time ever and I am sure because we had stayed at the Secrets Siversands.
The past week was Cancun off-peak season, so there was not a lot of guests in the resort, we never had to wait for a table and we were served immediately everywhere we went inside the resort. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
The choice of restaurants were wonderful, we tried the French, Mediterranean, Asian Fusion and buffet restaurants. The food was extremely fresh, definitely try the French and Mediterranean restaurants first.
We also went to the spa and did the couple massage, it was very relaxing. When you go during off-peak season, they have daily special at the spa, so don't book in advance until you're there.
We booked several excursions via bookit and everything went so smoothly, the drivers always arrived on time to pick us up. Everything was very organzied, we were always informed of our activities.
We will definitely return, given we had such a memorable experience."

"Food -
The breakfast and lunch buffets are good. Dinner is an ordeal at most places. The most popular restaurants (Bordeaux, Portofino) often have significant waits and then the meals take 2-3 hours. Portions are small and the quality is that of your local Golden Corral. NOTE: You can order multiples off of the menu so get several appetizers. My husband ordered the mussels and they gave him three. He could have ordered 3 plates of mussels and had a decent amount that way.
Rooms-
Rooms are fabulous and the cleaning staff is amazing. The Jacuzzi tub is GREAT! The shower has multiple heads and fits two good sized people easily. The floors are all tile so either bring slippers or wear the ones provided to prevent falls.
Drinks-
The booze flows free as long as you're willing to get it yourself. There is limited wait staff around the pools which will deliver a drink every 40-60 minutes. These folks work hard, but there may only be one working the whole pool. The drinks are very good and there is plenty of variety.
Pools -
The pools are saltwater and are really nice. There is a bar in the main pool and each building has it's own pool. The main pool gets a bit like bathwater in the afternoon, but there are plenty of other pools to move to.
Beach -
Bring your beach shoes preferably with closed toes. The beach is narrow and filled with sharp rocks and shells. Don't plan on taking a long walk around the beach b/c you can't go very far before there is a sea wall. There's just enough room for a a volleyball court, some chairs, and a few cabanas. We did do a sea turtle release one night and that was amazing.
Overall Notes
- The power goes out at least once a day and usually in the evening. It usually comes back on shortly, but it's a bit worrying if you get caught in the tub.
- Everything is set up for couples and in fact there are many honeymooners.
- The activity staff is energetic and fun. I thought they were great and I'm not even a game fan.
- The resort isn't as much fun if you're not drinking. I don't drink for medical reasons and that is a major focal point of the activities.
- I'd go to the Secrets chain again, but I think I would try a different resort. Our friends had been to several others and said the food and beach were better at the others. They were more expensive though. I think Silversands is a good bargain for the price, but I'm willing to pay a few more hundred to get a food upgrade."

"Amazing!
The resort is very impressive and absolutely beautiful. From the moment we arrived we received excellent service to include champagne upon arrival. The room was modern very clean, specious and features an oversized jacuzzi and separate sitting area. The resort grounds are very lush and tropical. There are 8 pools to choose from including an oversized jacuzzi and a swim bar! All the pools are clean however the temperature of the main pool was a bit warm.
The restaurants are beautiful and clean with a very attentive staff. The food in each is delicious and each menu has a variety of choices. Room service was just as good a must try we loved the flank steak and you can't miss the chicken broth for the hang over!
Overall this is a beautiful resort and we would return for another visit and highly recommend it!

"I would love to give this resort a five rating on everything. We had some dissapointments with our stay. This small space will not allow enough room to tell the whole story. 1, Black mold in air condtioning system in first room not a new problem door warped from water dripping from A/C unit. 2, bracelet left in first room not returned to me lanquage barrier trying to get it back. 3, second room a/c didn't work well at all. 4, something always missing from maid service no toilet paper, missing towels, no tissue, no matches to light incence to cover mask smell of mold, no glasses for drinks. I may be sounding picky but at an expensive resort you expect those little extras. I will say the food was very good. The nightly entertainment was good. Wait staff at the pools was good. All employees were freindly. I probably would stay with secrets again but not this location."

"I loved the Hotel. The service was amazing. a great choice by our part. Everything from the Hotel, to the rooms, to the restaurants, entertainment and the staff were all amazing. We stayed in an ocean front view, along with a pool to ourselves. The only issues I had was the beach area around the hotel was very rocky, but they did explain to us that this was due to a hurricane that practically washed out the beach. It was still a beautiful view and the services outweighed the rocky beach front.
As Preferred Members, we did the VIP tour to Maroma - OMG - Thats our next visit.. - AMAZING and the beach itself was what we were expecting. Definitely a must."

"We arrived early and to our surprise our room was ready. the staff were nice and the grounds were kept clean by a non stop staff. Food at the restaurants was good nit the best we have had but not the worst by far. The seafood shined, but most of the meat was on the tough side though the food was all presented with a flair. The best meat by far was the braised beef rib. We had a room off to the back of the resort witch was great with us and the girls ran drinks to us all day long. The staff was great and pleasant. Plenty to do if you wanted to, or just sit back in one of the other pools and do nothing like we did. The pools are a little dated, the one we were at had some issues but was clean and warm. We had a late flight out and were able to get a late check out for $50, but at check out they didn't charge us since the room was not booked till the next day (very nice of them to do that) Oh you can't control the room temp for the A/C but it was not that hard to get use to about 70 degrees. Over all we enjoyed ourselves and given the right chance we would go back"

The pool areas were nice and never seemed too crowded but the beaches were pretty seaweed filled- not a huge deal as we spent so much time at the pool. "Our overall experience with this resort was WONDERFUL. As all these reviews read the service there is OVER THE TOP at this resort. They truly love what they do and go above and beyond every day to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The food in all the restaurants was AMAZING. Tons of variety and very flavorful. Our only complaint with the food was room service. The food from room service was not so good, but we only used room service once or twice during our stay. The rest of the time we were out at the restaurants. The rooms overall our very nice. They are more modern looking and VERY CLEAN. They come in and clean your room about 2-3 a day (with your permission of course) The only complaint I have about the rooms was some of the furniture had water damage, but other than that the furniture was real comfortable and the layout of the rooms were nice. Buildings 5 & 6 have a strange odor, sewer-like odor to them when you walk out of the rooms. (Not in the rooms though) But if you ask them to switch you they will. The entertainment at the resort was FANTASTIC. Every night they had a different show around 8:30 and then after that either a live band or DJ. All the shows were wonderful and once again the service from the bartenders and the entertainment staff was always above and beyond. All the pools are kept extremely clean and most of them the water was like bath water. It was great. My husband's and my favorites of this resort is the food in all the restaurants, the entertainment throughout the day and especially at night, and by far the service from the entire staff at this resort. WE TRULY ENJOYED OUR STAY AT THIS RESORT AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE."

"I loved the Hotel. The service was excellent. I never write reviews but I had to, Secrets Sliversands was more than I expected. I read the reviews but I was still was a little nervous about what the hotel was going to be like. The grounds, suites, pools and restaurants were all amazing. I stayed in the perferred junior sutie with ocean front views. The only issues I had was the beach area around the hotel was very rocky and had a little smell. The water was not clear at all. I walked 10 mins to a clearer part of the beach. The hot tub in my room I could not use because the water came out orange. Some little things that I would change; if you didnt join the nightly entertainment, you could still hear the loud noise from your room until about midnight and they allowed smoking at the bars and pools, I would have loved a no smoking area outside. But even with that being said I loved my stay and I would return to this hotel. Remember to pack long pants for men for the indoor restaurants. Great Hotel overall."

"Secrets Silversands is just amazing. This resort really knows how to make one's trip 'a pleasure'. The food, service, rooms, restaurants, pools, and staff are EXCELLENTE! I've never been so relaxed, EVER! The only down fall was the rocky shoreline. The beach and sand was absolutely beautiful however, you couldn't go very far in the water without walking on rocks! A very secluded resort with wonderful entertainment at night. There is NO need to leave the hotel grounds. Gentlemen, don't forget to bring collared shirts, dress pants, and close-toed shoes for a majority of the restaurants! Ladies, you can wear whatever you want."

"There are a few things my husband and I thought would be helpful to others who are considering this hotel. We have been to numerous all inclusives in Mexico and this is one of the best. I'll start with the two downfalls - 1st, if you like to swim in the ocean and frolick in the waves, this is not the area for you, stick w/ Cancun. The beach is beautiful, but there is lot in the water making it difficult to enjoy. But beach walks were great, some good people watiching a few hotels north..... LOL Also, the rooms are beautiful, but not all buildings are created equal. We had to request a room change due to the terrible sewer odor outside our room(never came in the room, but when you walked out to the elevator it smacked you in the face at times) as well as the view of the back of the spa. The are not lying when they say pool view, but the problem is there are so many pools, I think they all have a pool view. The room we were upgraded to was awesome, unfortunately a little more than half our trip was in the first room. That being said... here are the many plus factors: you can eat wherever you want for dinner and no reservations. (except Hibachi tables) For anyone who travels w/ith all inclusives, you know how great this is, but it gets better. We were expecting long waits for meals because of the no reservations, which would be fine because there is always a bar close by, but we never had to wait, and they were at 99- 100 % capacity the whole time! The food was exceptional for an all inclusive, and all top shelf liquors where included as far as I noticed. The 'extra' cost wine list was not pushed at any meal and the staff was great! The beach waiter/waitress were always pleasant even if you didn't tip everytime you got a drink. The main pool had so many floats to drift around on so there was always a few available. Also, there was always chairs around and it seemed like if you couldn't find one, the staff would help you - another unheard of with many resorts that you need to set your alarm at 6am to reserve your seats by the pool or beach. They actually will remove 'just towel' reserved chairs if they notice no one comes to enjoy them in a few hours. Another great perk was the live bands at the outside bar every night, they were really good! They played American music and it always attracted a nice crowd. Very cool to chill and have a few drinks while listening to good music before bed - I think they played till 11:30pm or so (bar was still open after band finished). The rooms are very nice and more important CLEAN! It's not a new hotel, but it is kept nice and decorated very cool, bathrooms in the rooms are great, awesome shower pressure too. Beds were very comfortable as well as the bed linens. All in all it was well worth the money and would visit again in the future."

"We just returned from our stay. the grounds were lovely and the staff VERY professional no matter what duties they were hired for. The entertainment was exceptional the bands they had played great music appealing to all ages. the 'entertainment' staff was a great group, remembering your name and getting people involved in the daily activities. Our room was clean. Our only complaint was our room was hot, the bar in the lobby area hot, the restaurants hot. I hope they have just been experiencing 'growth' problems as the power flickered off a few times almost every night. We tied to turn down the temp but that didn't work we call maintenance that didn't work either. Also they tried also to get us to buy into their 'preferred' club I hated that, I am on vacation not to purchase a (time share) as I call it Final word nice time, great people, clean place .I never go to the same place that is the only reason why I gave that last rating"

"This place is absolutely amazing! I loved the adults only aspect of the vacation since the pool was the hot spot for everyone to drink and relax. They always had waiters come up to you whether you were in the hot tub or by the pool side asking for drink orders. The staff was super friendly and the entertainment crew did a great job during the week scheduling games and beach/pool volleyball games during the day along with bonfires and performances on the beach at night. I'm also very picky on food, I picked this place because I hate buffets. The restaurants were all gorgeous!!!! and the no reservations made it super enjoybable to just go and pick out which one you wanted that night. The decorating in this place is definitely top notch! All the food that comes out looks like something that jumped out of a magazine. My only negative about it was that it looked pretty but some of the dishes I found were bland. And the portions weren't very big at all so you had to order a few things. Our room was cleaned every day and the public bathrooms by the pool and in the hotel lobby area are constantly cleaned so I never felt gross using them. Definitely book your stay here, you won't regret it. WELL WORTH IT!!!"

"This was our first vaca with no kids in 9 years. The only negatives were the trying to get us to take a Timeshare loke sit down or do an excursion. Once you got your No Thank You out everything else was GREAT!!! The place was immaculate. We got a room sort of in the corner BUT it was perfect, quiet and away from the main pool. The food was very good some restaurants better then others(must do himitsu and el patio). I am not a lay on the beach kind of guy but after 2 of the days getting massages and plentifull amounts of good adult beverages, I was relaxed for the first time in years. It is said that tipping is not needed BUT I found out that keeping some singles for the waiter or drink runner is TRULY appreciated. We will definitely want to go back. The price was good , the service was great and the facility was better then the pics show."

"overall a very nice resort but don't bother paying the extra $$ to upgrade to the preferred club it was not worth it. $$ would hve been better spent getting an ocean view regular room. We didn't feel we got anything more than the other people who didn't upgrade."

"we stayed at secrets silversands last year and loved it. We booked a mystery trip this year and ended up at a different resort and were very disappointed. In fact 3 days into our trip, we relocated back to Silversands and loved it!!! Many of the staff were still there from last year and in fact remembered us!!! We were so happy with our switch despite the time it took to do so! PLanning to go back again next year!"

"We have been to several Secrets resorts %u2013 it's a very reliable brand in Mexico. Although this was our first time at SS, our prior experiences with Secrets resorts made this choice an easy one. At Secrets, service is always prompt, courteous and thorough.
This is one example of why service at SS is special: we had a problem with the air conditioning on our first night. The concierge came by to check the controls; he called in a serviceman, who checked the units and replaced the control. Still, it was too warm. We called again and they came back. The concierge sent the serviceman to the roof to check the equipment. The concierge told me he would call back in ten minutes %u2013 and he did. He told me to expect the room to be cooler in 30 minutes %u2013 and it was. This occurred at 11pm. How many places would have a serviceman on call ready to fix the problem at that hour?
SS is taking affirmative steps to restore the beach. They have placed sandbags to create shallow areas and use a backhoe to shape the water's edge. This seems to have a beneficial effect for the 6-7 pelicans that were constantly fishing on front of the resort. We were happy to see these and other birds (and fish) at SS. It's one big reason we preferred to stay here rather than the Vines.
The restaurant options and menus are delicious. The main pool is heated. The resort gives you space to roam. And you can always bike down the road to Puerto Morelos, a pretty town with an excellent beach and zoning regulations that prevent it from becoming the next Cancun.
Just go %u2013 it's easy.

"Secrets...IS a best kept secret! This resort from top to bottom was gorgeous, they have excellent customer service, the food was great, and atmosphere was trendy and vey well kept.
The only negative experience I had was the wireless internet not always working on my devices. Also, if there isn't a lot of entertainment at night at the resort, so if you want to go out and party you would definitely have to go out in the city!
such a wonderful and relaxing experience, I am telling all of my family and friends about this place!!"

"This resort was absolutely amazing! The view of the beach from our room was spectacular and the room was fabulous. The food was absolutely delicious and the entire staff treated you like 'kings and queens'. Mercedes, the pool server was very, very pleasant and kept the drinkis flowing! Everyone there was extremely pleasant and polite and made sure that we had a great time. I had the opportunity to get a 'swedish massage' and that was fantastic! I will definitely visit this resort again and recommend it to everyone! Thank you for making this a wonderful travelling experience!"

"We just arrived home from Secrets Silversand's Resort in Rivera Maya, Mexico. I couldn't have been more pleased with our stay there. We stayed 11 days. Every part of our trip was excellent but the friends we made with the staff at the resort were what made our trip the most impressive. It was hard traveling into a different country and knowing a limited amount of their language. Most everyone knew enough English to help us along. We grew really close to 5 of the staff members, by the time we left it felt like we were leaving family. On our 2nd day the Veranda Bartender was a blessing. I was so happy to see him every day. I loved getting to learn about his life and I told him all about ours. When I had a question about language and locations he was the one we would go to. On the 3rd day, we met another Veranda Bartendar who was also amazing. He is a very friendly guy. He actually helped teach me how to pronounce some of the language. Seeing him every day was like having a best friend or family member on vacation with you. After every trip off the resort, I couldn't wait to tell him all about it. We ended being referred to the Bar Manager by another bartender one day. We had had a translations problem with our maid. She had forgotten to leave wash clothes on day. I called the front desk to get them delivered. Shortly afterwards, we received 3 big towels. I had to draw her picture to show her what I actually needed. She left and returned with them. After explaining the issue to 2 other people, the bar manager was able to explain to us that what we call 'wash clothes' is called 'faca'. He then took it upon himself to check on our nightly to make sure we were still doing ok. Every day at lunch our cook would wait on us at the Barefoot Grill. He knew what we liked and somehow was able to remember. His personality and upbeat attitude was a wonderful addition to a great lunch. He kept us laughing the whole time. Last but not least our Taxi/ shuttle bus/bell boy/ pool waiter was able to get us a taxi knowing we knew little to no Spanish. He also made a point of helping translate our needs to the taxi driver. Being that it seemed so organized we had a very safe feeling about getting where we needed to go. He made sure we had gone where we wanted afterwards too. We met the nicest people we have even met on the resort. The people I am referring to are all employed there. I was amazed on a couple occasions how people (guests) treated the staff. I don't know why people think they can boss them around or be extremely rude. The staff was nice even when being spoken to meanly. So I guess that speaks to the amazing character that the staff has. I feel truly blessed to have had my time here. It bothers me even now that I haven't talked to them in 2 days. Please command your amazing staff for their beautiful personalities. They really made us feel like family. I am so glad we picked Secret's Silversands. "

"The resort was very nice. I liked the size because all of the rooms are in close proximity of the pools and restaurants. The rooms are great as well, with wonderful ambient lighting and incense. The beach, however, is horrible. You definitely can't run into the ocean. So if you're a beach person, I suggest going somewhere else. We've been to Mexico 9 times now, so we thought we could handle a not so nice beach, but it will definitely keep us from returning. Another thing that really irked me, was that when we booked, we received resort credit. This credit is to be applied in increments toward services, so you still have to pay for services and the dinner and wine upgrades. At a previous resort we stayed at, I got the credit in a lump sum and was able to enjoy a wonderful FREE massage. Needless to say, we won't be returning and I'll look for a resort like this, but with a better beach."

"There were some really good things about Secrets Silversands Cancun, and also some disappointing things too. The facility was beautiful and the workers very kind and accommodating. Our first frustration was upon arriving when we were told that they had a big group come in and so the ocean front rooms that we had reserved and paid for two months earlier had been given to the big group. They never offered a refund for the difference, just a couple's massage and after complaining some to them, they offered us a really nice room for our last night......which meant we had to repack and move and waste about two hours of our time there. In hindsight I would not have moved rooms. The room that they put us in had a view of their laundry facilities! The ocean was a disappointment too. They worked very hard to keep it clean of trash, but it was rocky and not pretty water. The food was average to good, with the best restaurant being their French one. Buffet breakfast was also very good. Loved our time there and wish that we could have stayed longer, but not sure that I would go back. My husband loves a good beach, and since they didn't have this, probably will look for another location.."

"We stayed at SSS September 23-30, 2011 and just love this resort! We upgraded our preferred ocean front view room to an anniversary suite. The room was truly beautiful and we were treated wonderfully. Upon arrival we were greeted with a cool cloth and champagne to sip. We were taken to the preferred check-in area and within ten minutes we were taken to our room. There was a bottle of champagne in our room along with fresh fruit. It was a nice touch and appreciated since we arrived to the resort around 9:00pm. We hung out by the main pool and the infinity pool the majority of the time.
My husband and I renewed our vow with SSS on September 26, 2011. The SSS wedding planner was truly wonderful to work with; highly recommend her services and love all the work she did to make our special day even more speical. Our photos were taken by Adventure Photos; who is located within SSS. She was wonderful to work with and did a great job. They were wonderful in helping to suprise my husband with the room upgrade to a beautiful suite; truly spectacular!! We love our home away from home and plan to come back again next year. We will always remember this wonderful day and thank all involved.
We did take the opportunity to visit Secrets Maroma for the frequent travel program. Mind you, this is not a timeshare but a frequent travel program. We had lunch with the sales rep and had a tour after. If you don't like to be pressured into buying something; don't worry - they do take no for an answer. I said no several times until we were able to find a plan that worked best for us. We did join the frequent travel program and can't wait to use it to travel back to SSS next year.
We love this resort and have no bad things to say about it! The staff is wonderful, the food is great and the drinks are amazing! Love you SSS!!"
