I recently returned from one week here with my husband, 3 year old daughter and infant. We were regular guests (not royal elite or select club). The jungle feel of the resort is certainly unique compared to our experience at other all inclusives. Here's a few thoughts from our visit: Pros - so many activities! If you like having things to do definitely choose this resort - very friendly staff - never a problem finding chairs at the beach or pools - evening entertainment shows were well done - g... Moderately priced with airfare & roundtrip transfer, we stayed for 9 nights in January 2016. Our trip was booked & purchased through Travelocity. Here is a summary by category of our experience. Children vs. Romance ‚?? Sandos Caracol Eco is definitely a more family friendly resort. While we do not have a problem with children running around during the day, we definitely prefer adult only time in the evening. So if you want romantic, child free this is not the place for you. However if you hav... Read more

Overall a nice resort. Enjoyed the pool but the beach was not that great at all. Loved the monkeys and animals that were around the resort. The a la carte restaurants we attended were very good, but did not enjoy the buffet. There was not much of a variety of foods at the buffet.

There are a lot of amazing things that deserve 5 stars but also some negative issues that spoil overall impression. The great things Sandos Caracol can be proud of are: 1. Yoga classes. The classes are designed to satisfy yogis of any level (from very beginning to advanced) and take place 6 days a week for 1-2 hours. The instructor Juan Carlos is a true guru - professional, inspiring and encouraging, with very positive attitude and strong intention to make his students healthier and happier. He... Read more

We just traveled to Sandos Caracol Eco Resort May 14 to May 22, 2016. We found the resort to be excellent. The food was great. We especially enjoyed the Vegetarian Restaurant, great job Armando. The Japanese restaurant was delicious and since I have allergies they made my food separate and I found that to be excellent service. The Brazilian restaurant was very filling if you love meat, you will try everything on the menu, so be hungry. The staff at the Brazilian were excellent. Our room alwa... Read more

We stayed in a basic room. It was not fancy but it had everything we needed, air conditioning, cold water, hot shower, comfy beds, T.V, a safe, a window and a balcony. Our days were so relaxing yet filled with fun. The beach was so nice, there were lots of places to set up along the way, nice sandy spots, with calmer waters, and some rockier parts with rougher waters. It was perfect for snorkling, swimming, or just going for a quick dip to cool off. When you were done at the beach, you could m... Read more

I really enjoyed this unique resort!! There were 2 things that I didn't care for 1. The frozen drinks were terrible!! They have a bitter stevia aftertaste to them. All of them!!I ended up drinking pepsi.(please fix this Sandos) This would be my reason for not returning. So disappointed:( 2. This is little.. No guacamole at the snack bar EVERYDAY! They loved the property, the pools, the waterpark, the beach, the animals, the entertainment, loved it all. I will definitely agree with the beach at the sister property Sandos Playacar being 100% better, and it's worth the $13 car ride. Hands down the staff were very accommodating and helpful, always greeted us with smiles. Cons: The AC in our room didn't... Read more

Honeymoon couple - There is a adult only side of the resort, I strongly advise this ! As there are children everywhere, that said the resort has many quite spots where you can escape away from the hussle and bussle of the resort. We stayed here with friends. The experience was great. It wasn‚??t your typical beach hotel (so if you want that, perhaps consider another place), but it was as advertised and a lot of fun. The service was great. For example, one server in the main buffet (Florecita) noticed one evening that I wasn‚??t finding something I wanted to eat. (Me being picky; there was plenty to choose from.) Very disappointed! The rooms need a lot of work. Some walls look like they are falling apart. I can't believe that it's a family resort and the bathrooms don't have a door. A lot of the staff seemed bothered by the guests questions. The food overall was good. The beach is horrible! Dirty and rocky. I won't stay here again. The prices at the gift shop are outrageous. ($12 for a bag of Doritos!) no way!

We are just over halfway through our 2 week holiday here at Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. We are travelling with Thomas Cook who advertise this hotel as 4*. Hotel is not 4* standard. Rooms are tired and shabby with broken furniture, wires hanging out of walls etc. Our room has flooded twice due to dodgy air-conditioning. After reading many reviews prior to our arrival I was kind of nervous. First thing I want to say, if you are already booked, stop reading reviews! We stayed in a standard room 2 kids, 2 adults, section 26 (I asked for renovated room, couldn't tell if it was but it was "ok"- small leak in one of the sinks but just put towel and dealt did not bother to switch rooms), which was close to everyt... There are wild animals all around the property: tejon, deer, monkeys, peacocks, donkeys, pigs, sheep and others. Some of them are rescue animals so is good to see that the Hotel is doing good things. This resort is amazing. There is more to do to than the week I was able to stay. The staff is great, the rooms were beautiful and the resort itself is the best part. So to start off, i have to say that i was extremely satisfied with Sandos Caracol and their staff. From the second my girlfriend and I got to the resort, the staff was very welcoming and kind with drinks and smiles. For me, this was my first time going to a Caribbean resort and I have to say the resort was BEAUTIFUL! I did not expect to be surrounded with so much nature and animals. The best part of the whole trip was that it was an affordable place to stay for 5 nights with a family of 5. It averaged a little under 100 per night per person. The positives- there were animals on the property to see. Monkeys, racoons, iguanas, deer, coati, among others. It was very kid friendly. Under about 12-13 years old kids dont care about quality. They have a kids club. The kids slide and pool area was fun. It had most of what you would come to expect from an all inclusive place. The ... Read more

If you're thinking of a family vacation in Cancun with small children, we highly recommend Sandos Caracol. Our 5 g'children, ages 3.7 to 7.9, and their 40-something parents all found something to like, from the age appropriate splash parks, to the kid's club, to the beaches and pools, to the more-than-you-can-eat-and-drink all-inclusive price at 8 restaurants! If you want to explore the possibilities, I'd like to add that, when making all the arrangements, our travel agent in Okemos, Michigan go... Read more

I am stressing out after reading these current reviews. This trip has been in the works for over a year. Normally my husband likes only the best 5 star resorts that are relaxing and safe for our kids. Now i read about ALL the construction and and roaming workers and smelly water. Our summers in Canada are horrid with mosquitos, now i just paid to hang out with more??? Freaking out. This is my gift from my husband as i chose what was best for the kids. Most 5 Stars bore my kids, so took this cha... Read more

We booked nine nights at Sandos Caracol on Expedia.com, and opted for the Select Club Adults Only section. So glad we did, as we were able to avoid many of the problems some have complained about here. As to those complaints, I can only say, your mileage may vary. Let me get what we observed about that out of the way first, because I'd prefer to focus on what we loved about this wonderful place! First, at least during our late November stay, there were mosquitoes about in the late evening throu... Read more

My wife and visited Sandos Eco Caracol Resort for two weeks in November. Let me preface this review with we had a great time and will return at some point. We did not have kids with us so I can only comment on what I saw or encountered, and we did not try everything. Sandos Eco Caracol is a large resort with many activities: the resort has a good ecology and environmental program called the Xcalacco, where you can visit the Mayan ruins on site, try Mayan underground cooking, tours of the jungle... We spend 7 days at Sandos and had a wonderful time. Beach was very nice, but far if you are at the Adults only or family sections. Food was good; burrito place and French (try the duck) was our favorite. Mexican night was fun with tequila tasting and sampling of authentic food. Entertainment was great; evening and throughout the day. Lots for all to do. Staff was friendly. Jimmy greeted us and checked in almost daily to ensure we had everything we needed. He was accessible and extremely friend... Read more

I traveled with my wife and 9 year old son. It was his first time out of the country, but my wife and I have been to Mexico two other times. I am an over-planner, so I did a lot of research. I read the reviews on here and elsewhere, watched videos, etc. So I had particular expectations, and Sandos Caracol met and exceeded those expectations. First, a quick note on why we chose Sandos Caracol vs. all the other options - We were looking for something unique. We've done a fairly high-end (not fu... Read more

Just spent another very long holiday at Sandos Caracol. It's just like going home to our Mexican family. Everything about it super especially the staff. We have made so many friends there who like us return often. We loved it so much we bought into the Royal Elite Holiday club. (Not timeshare) it's so fabulous, next years already booked.
