"Hotel was pretty good.
Pool area was very good.
Ocean/Beach was excellent.
Staff was excellent.
However.....Food was mediocre at best......plentiful but mediocre.
Drinks were also lacking. Only beer you can get is Dos Equis on tap. Mixed drinks were watered down...a good idea to ask them to put double the liquor in your drink. Frozen drinks were not very tasty as you would expect.
Overall if you can get this vacation for a low price it is ok.
Definitly not an 8.5 rating......More like a 6"

"My daughter, Allie, and I just got back from another fantastic vacation in Cancun, Mexico. It is without a doubt the staff of the Royal Solaris that makes our time in Cancun so special. Every time we go to Cancun we stay there. The entire staff makes us feel like family. The hotel is very nice, the location is gorgeous, the food is delicious in all of the restaurants (especially the Bovagante restaurant), the atmosphere is fun and exciting, and the staff is fantastic. You definitely get your money's worth and more!
We want to especially thank the staff members that made our visit this time extra We can't wait to go back in December! Again, thank you Royal Solaris staff.... you are the BEST!!!!

"Just returned yesterday from a 4 night stay at the Royal Solaris in Cancun. I had read some negative reviews prior to going so I was a bit nervous at what we would fine. I needn't have worried. Contrary to what I had read, the check in process was simple. We were upgraded to an Ocean View with a balcony at no extra charge. Sometimes simply asking nicely and seeing what happens is all you need.
The food was typical All-Inclusive. If you have moderate to low expectations you'll be set. It's not going to be gourmet and it was no exception here. Although, I will say that the Marco Polo restaurant was delicious and very romantic.
Tipping is encouraged here so bring about $100 in $1's. Believe me, a $1 goes a long way here. The drinks were not very watered down that I could tell and it certainly stops mattering the more of them you have.
We had no problem with people hassling us for time shares.
All in all, it was a great trip and I would recommend it anyone who would like a budget-friendly all-inclusive on a gorgeous beach."

"First I do have to tell you that we have never been to Cancun before. We were traveling with 4 other people, 3 of which had been there before. We started off by booking this trip online and then finding out that the transfers were not included in the price. That meant we had to call in to get our transfers added. When arriving at the airport, we found that our seats had not been booked together on the plane. We were separated into several groups and my husband and I weren't even seated together. We usually do not have this issue if we book the reservations together. When we got to Mexico, things were smooth through customs and the transport from Best Day travel was fast, clean and efficient. The hotel ROYAL SOLARIS RESORT MARINA AND SPA was another story. Firstly, they lied on the web site about what the 'resort' actually is. It is not a resort, it's just a hotel with a choppy layout and crummy amenities. There isn't even a minibar or even an ice bucket in the rooms. The rooms were different for each of the couples traveling with us even though we all chose the same option. One had king size bed , the other 2 had 2 double beds. The fact there isn't a minibar wouldn't have been any issue if there had been at least water left in the room. We were there for a week with no drinkable water left in the room. There were no washcloths ever left after housekeeping was in the room. I think there may be a shortage because the maids told us they have to be requested. Who doesn't want to wash themselves with a washcloth? For 3k for a one week trip, I shouldn't have to request any basic amenity like a washcloth!! There was also a lot of pressure from everyone to buy the timeshare for 33k....and if you don't , you are treated like a second class citizen. Their convenience store in the hotel could never run a credit card because they had a connection problem all week. AND THERE IS NO ATM IN THIS SO CALLED HOTEL. The man at the bellboy stand suggested we go to their sister hotel next door (Solaris Caribe) to buy the things we needed. We walked over there in the 90 degree heat only to be confronted by a man asking to see our arm bands because we don't belong there...I.e. we aren't members of their timeshare club. Now I am in customer retention in my own field and this was beyond insulting to me. No one ever went out of their way to help us or make us feel like we were at all special, but they sure didn't hesitate to point out when we were out of our assigned place. I think this was the worst thing about the trip. When you are on vacation, you should not be made to feel that you are not welcome or somehow not as special as the next person. We were good enough for them to take our money, but now we aren't good enough to even walk in the lobby and buy a pack of cigarettes from the store in their hotel because of what color band we have on our arm? Very poor customer retention, very poor. The food was low quality ( my husband found approx 50 bugs in his bread the second day there) and the selection was abysmal. My mother in law got sick from the fish at the snack bar. By day 3 you are ready for something other than what they offer in the way of food. The entertainment staff was nice enoughand. They did a good job keeping things fun poolside every day. The beach was very clean and beautiful. There was very little in the way of shade near the ocean though. Overall, all 6 people in our group were very disappointed in our vacation. Maybe it's because we have been to punta cana and seen what true hospitality looks like(we definitely got spoiled there) that we feel like even the minimal attempts that were made were not very genuine. On the plus side, at least I never got trapped in the elevator doors, which are a death trap. We actually saw several people get injured from the doors, which have no sensor built on them to open if someone is standing in the doorway. One lady had her arm caught and severely bruised. One little boy got his head shut in the door with his parents outside the elevator and couldn't get the doors open. I didn't feel very secure in a big hotel with malfunctioning elevators and no sprinkler system. I was more than happy to come home. Save your money and go to another hotel or the Dominican Republic , you will be glad you didn't go here!!!!!!!"

"This was our first trip to Cancun. We were somewhat hesitant because some of the reviews were not that good. We chose it anyway because of the overall rating of 8.7.
We have nothing but good to say about the hotel. The room in our package was not ocean front but it was very clean and comfortable. The food was very good. We were impressed with how much attention to detail was taken to decorate the main dining room to match the theme, ie Italian night was beautifully decorated. All meals had a wide wide variety of choices and the fruit and desserts were excellent! The drinks were as you would expect from an all inclusive. Our only complaint was the wine. It was literally not drinkable. We had to buy wine for dinner. Food at the snack bar by the pool was very good, also with a wide variety.
The staff was fantastic, always helpful and accommodating. The shows at night were also excellent. There was also a live group that played music in the lounge after the show that was also very good. We really had a great trip and we can't imagine what anyone would complain about this hotel for the money. I would recommend that anyone reading this review ignore the negative comments.

"Our Christmas vacation to Cancun and staying @ Royal Solaris was our third vist and the best so far> 7 day's & night's and If they get better each time, then we will be back.
The Staff is more than friendly and capable to make your stay carefree. They did an excellent job. When I was not completly satisfied with the room assigned to us when we checked in They made sure we were moved to a room of our choice on same floor just further from the elevators still with balcony and Ocean View no questions (front desk personel were very professional and courtious). It was our anniversary and they had our room decorated and waiting, the resort was to our satifaction and more. The food, resturaunts, & bars with all the servers & waiters, the entertainment crew, to the room staff was top notch.
A lot of the staff remembered us (rather that is good or not..) it sure made you feel at ease.
We are planning our next trip down... sun and carefree vacation for the time there."

"I've been in Mexico few times. It was pretty fine vacation for whole family with a kid this time. Only one real stress have taken place - when we just arrived, guy on a front desk told us about lucky hour or something like that and suggested us to go to another hotel in the Solyaris network GR solyaris with room and service upgrade. He didn't show us a hotel on Internet or had some bouqletes.. But he told that it more expensive and luxury so we accepted offer. When we arrived in GR Solyaris it was soooooo big disappointment. Dirty, uncomfortable place, not the guy discribed at all. The food is totally trash, we didn't even eat the lunch we were hungry though. The room was small, in terrible condition, the view was on technical roof, very noisy. The property absolutely uncomfortable, small pool, closed kids club, long distance to the beach which was dirty. So, we decided to go back so we did. After some time we got our room with pretty ocean view. At Royal Solyaris was fine, everything paid for. Don't be stupid like we were, don't accept the 'great upgrade'. This is anacceptble and dirty lie! We knew our rights, so we could to get back our hotel. Somebody couldn't. So, maybe this behavior works like marketing or something to sell more rooms at the chip dirty place like GR Solyaris. But for me, I NEVER recommend this hotel network for vacation to my friends because of the total unbelievable lie!!!"

"First time in Cancun.
bookit experience: everything went smoothly during checkout, but 2 days before trip i checked the reservation and found that mine was missing 2 transfers. it was not a big deal to fix it, but still I spent extra half an hour on the phone.
we picked the hotel based on online research and kids friendly was i requirement - since we went as two families with 2 kids 4,4 and one teen 13. On arrival to airport there again was some mess with transfer - i'm happy i got my printouts for transfer vouchers, otherwise i dont know how i will get to hotel.
During checkin to the hotel we were asked if we want to upgrade to another hotel of the same Solaris network - to GR Solaris. We decided to check this option and were told that it has exactly same amenities. Transfer to another hotel was smooth, but on arrival we found that kids water zone is under construction... So we went back to original Royal Solaris hotel.
Kids club is really good in Royal Solaris and our 4yo daughter didnt want to leave it.
Hotel staff is really nice and helpful.
I'm not gourman and i would say the the food option and quality is just ok.
Internet is $15 per day and its better to go to Plaza De Flamingo and get local SIM card with 3G - if your phone unlocked - so you will get 1GB of data for 200 pesos.

"Not wanting to start on a negative note, the front desk staff were great. It goes down hill from there, the food was the lowest quality, there was no imagination put in to the buffet, even serving the same thing two nights in a row, the bar was a total disappointment, every thing i ordered they did not have, really no mint for Mojitos? They seem to think we are dumb when we order something and they would give us what ever they decided to give us. The resort was clean but don't expect wash cloths in your room ,{ by request only from front desk.} This was our 4th trip to Cancun, and by far the worst. We will not be back at Solaris, nor will the 8 other people that went with us."

"Recently went to Cancun, for the first time. We stayed at the Royal Solaris. For an all-inclusive resort it was great......we stayed for 7 nights. If your looking for a place with little or NO children, this is NOT the place to go. Though we enjoyed our stay, we were a little put out by all the kids running around parentless. It seemed the kids (ages 2 and up) seemed to run the place. This is nothing negative about the resort however.. We didnt do good enough research about it and assumed it was more adults. Regardless, we had fun and just stayed to ourselves and did alot of exploring outside the resort. the food was good, but as any all-inclusive resort goes, after several days of the same stuff, we got pretty tired of it. The lady that met us upon booking in showed us around and gave us the in's and out's of the place. I recommend going through the initial orientation. It helped us know where things were and hours of operation. They will encourage you to go to a 'welcome' orientation where someone will take you to explore the other 2 sister resorts.......If you have 4hours (they will tell you 90 minutes) to burn and stick to you NO means NO, then its worth the free stuff they give you at the end.....but keep in mind they are very pushy about getting you to buy a 'timeshare'....they will even finance you at an extremely high interest rate with no credit check...........i say that screams bad news.......after we finally got through to them that we were not interested in the timeshare (after sitting through their whole spill about it)....the 'tour guide' left us at a desk at a sister resort and told us we could collect our free gifts there.....thank goodness we asked how the hell to get back to our resort.....and they gave us a coupon for a taxi....jUst thought it was rude how friendly they were until they realized they wern't getting our money, then they all became short and rude........Once we got through the timeshare BS....the rest of the week was awesome.....had an amazing time on the beaches and getting to participate in the releasing of the baby turtles...and watching the mother sea turtles come to shore and lay their eggs......Kudo's to the staff at the resort for protecting the turtles and helping them....BIG SHOUT-OUT to the waiter in the main buffet restaurant..Over all, we will be coming back to this resort with our family......and we'll look for an adults only place in cancun to go to alone....."

"We very much enjoyed our stay at the Royal Solaris Cancun Resort! They were very helpful getting us acquainted with the facilities and other staff members. They were also very informative and polite! The rooms were kept very clean as well as the pool and eating areas. We enjoyed excursions booked through Xel-Ha that is located conveniently in their lobby. There is not one thing I could complain about! "I have 2 boys and we got the kids 12 and under stay n eat free deal. The price for our stay was a steal. I can honestly say that for what we paid, we definitely got our money's worth n more. However, for reference to others I will say this: The food at the pool snack bar was not good. Pizza n wings tasted bad...I think they could easily improve that. Food at restaurants was good. Our favorite was Marco Polo however, their dress code was a bit annoying. Men cannot go in if wearing shorts. I understand if they were swimming shorts but, my husband was wearing nice looking cargo shorts from Express and a nice polo shirt, they still said he had to be wearing pants/jeans, no shorts. We were in Cancun!! With very humid weather...Who wants to be wearing pants?? Other than that, the food there was great!! Waiters in all restaurants were very nice. We personally had a great experience with a pool waiter. He was special and very hardworking...kept the drinks coming at the beach or at the pool for us. I am not sure why but, for some reason the waitresses are not as friendly or even nice at all.
The hotel is old, our room was clean and got cleaned very nicely each day but, since it is an older hotel, the ventilation was not good and the room felt humid. The restroom did not have a vent system which made the humidity in the room even worst after we would all shower. I did not have any problem with the noise but, my mom did complained that from their room they could hear everything from the hall way to the rooms sharing a wall with their's.
For us, nothing was bad enough to say we would not recommend this hotel or we would not return. We liked it, we had a great time, and we recommend for families with kids if they still offering the deal we got with kids being free to stay. =)

"The grounds of this hotel are just beautiful. Very clean, very friendly staff and constantly trying to help you.
The rooms are just horrid.....A Best Western is an upgrade compared to this hotel. Our a/c was awful. First way too cold, then the moisture on the floor caused several falls as the floors are a cheap tile. Just so much moisture. All our clothes were wet. I was raised in New Jersey and had humidity but never like this in our a/c room....we had only one towel in our room upon arrival. The room was never finished prior to our arrival. One towel. Not even a face cloth. After the third day, and a complimentary bottle of champagne to make peace the room was a little better. The staff does not speak English very well at all. hard to communicate with most staff members. Those that could speak English were wonderful. Rooms are so noisy. This hotel need upgrades....I would not recommend this to anyone. The grounds are wonderful. The food was pretty good, except 3 of our 6 family members did get the Mexican Bathroom experience. Must be the vegetables. And they did have rooms with patios/decks...I was told no but pictures did show the different rooms. I must say that the grounds were just beautiful. This was the saving grace of our vacation...Did not want to spend any time in our rooms at all......horrible. "

"This hotel had the friendliest staff including all waitresses, etc. of any place I have ever stayed. The all-inclusive is the way to go. If things like a lock on the bathroom door and the lack of hand towels don't bother you (you can always ask each day) then this is a wonderful place. They even cater to kids. I noticed a miniature buffet area for kids for breakfast. Entertainment every night was included and all the drinks you want are included. If you are not uppity this place will work for families or for couples well."

"The hotel was ok. I was disappointed there was no refrigerator in the room, and the snack bars closed early evening, so no late night snacks. There was only one restaurant open during the day and two at night. The third restaurant was closed every day but one, and there was only one snack bar with limited snacks. And I really do not like being pressured to buy a membership. Next time I will look for a different hotel. "

"This was a very nice hotel to stay at. Overall I am happy that we chose this one. The stuff is very friendly, rooms are cleaned every day, ocean view is amazing (although at the time we went the room and everything inside the room was constantly sort of wet. It would take couple of days for the wet clothes to dry up) The food at the buffet was pretty good, nice veriety. Marco Polo Rest. was very nice. Small portiones but very good tasting and filling when you order all courses. We didn't get a chance to try the rest by the beach as it was raining every day and they were closed but the pool snack bar always had hot dogs and burgers and more. Deserts were pretty good too. Hotel staff never asked for tips which was nice as outside of the hotel every one tries to grab your stuff so then they could ask for a tip. Who ever is about to visit cancun watch out. Don't let anyone touch your laggage unless if you don't mind tipping 5 guys on your way to the destination."

"Well organized from the pick-up at the airport to the drop off at the airport. The hotel is clean and its meal services are excellent from the morning to the night. The only thing could be improved is that the purchasing excursions. It took all most half day for our 4 family group since they are working on a Blackberry for both phone calls and actual orderings (back and forth)."

"LOVED IT as did my 13 yr old son. The place is VERY active and fun :) always something going on which I like. Daily activities and nightlife in the lobby. Phone in lobby to call back home when you buy a card at the front desk. No reservations needed for restaurants which is a pius!!!!!! Food was very good, we ate at Marco Polo every night. We were NEver sick. water and beach beautiful. hard to get a chair at the pool, no room service and DO NOT get a room by the elevator or you will hear a 'ding' every time it arrives 2 your floor which made us move rooms. not all rooms have a fridge either :( bus located right outside.... Food was very good for an all inclusive which I have been to a TON. we had a great time we are going back next year!!!!!!!! This is a kid friendly resort big time. We had NO spring breakers thank goodness!!!!! No annoying sellers on the beach. A great time, can't wait to go back!!!!!"

"Good value for the price. first time at this site. No steps to enter or exit the pools. The 3 or 4 pools are no deeper then 3 and 1/2 feet. Food was good and professionally presented in tha Ala carte restaurants. totally unprofessional that staff have tip jars or money just sitting out at there work stations in the cafeteria style restaurant."

"So many things went wrong. I don't have the time to write about it. Here's a summary. 1. The hotel staff was rude 2. After waiting 5hrs for our room. We find out we were put in the wrong room and had to change rooms. The room we got changed in didn't have the refrigerator, balcony, extra bed, that paid for. 3. Our travel guide person got mad at us when we didn't want to do the time share to get discounted prices on events. Throughout the week he avoided us. 4. The hotel is not as nice as the pictures. Also the picture of the hotels location was way off. 5. We weren't just minutes away from downtown shopping, bars, etc. Had to take a taxi, a 20 min drive. 6. The drink selection had no variety. Drinks that I don't even like. The food was aweful. Hardly ate at the resort. 7. The prices at the resort were more expensive than the US. This is suppose to be Mexico. I have been on many vacations in Mexico and never paid more than I would in the US. The only good: the pool was awesome. I loved how the house keeping cleaned the room and decorated the pillows and blankets."

"Booked a last minute vacation to Cancun. Be careful when booking - had to pay a large increase to add food and drinks. the resort was ok. Lobby and entrance nothing to write home about. Staff however, was very, very friendly. I can not say enough about their positive demeanor - always smiling and helpful. Only had one unpleasant encounter with a night-time watiress at the Lobby bar area - her loss though because there were over 20 of us that were going to leave her tips - NONE of us did... Food was good. Buffet offered plenty of selection. Marco Polo was ok; only ate their once. Pool snack hut was good. You can basically eat all day long! Entertainment staff was great - they obviously enjoy their jobs. Nightly shows were good. Get used to everything being presented in Spanish first, then English. Rooms were slightly below average. Halls smelled musty as did rooms and linens. I had to wash everything upon my return to get rid of the smell. Overall, you get what you pay for - having paid over $4,300 for four I guess I can't complain. I still would recommend doing a thorough search for your family vacation. We would like to go back to Mexico but definatley will stay further towards Cancun - more going on there."

"The resort was OK for the price. Cancun is most definitely a third world experience. It would be the last place I would go again for a vacation. Pros of Hotel: Great staff, pools, bars, beach, non buffet great, buffet so-so, fairly clean, room was small, but maid was terrific, all the booze and food before midnight you could want, fair entertainment. Cons of Hotel: hard sell on time shares, located in Cancun, not ATM, costly internet if you don't bring your own laptop, marina antiquated, lack of pool lounges, must put towells on lounges before 8 a.m. if you want one, not enough sun cover."

"Our stay was amazing right from the start. We checked in and Marcus was so friendly and even made us laugh. The rooms are pretty basic, but very clean! Our housekeepers surprised us each day with amazing creations made from our towels, wash clothes and bed spreads. The pool was gorgeous, just like the pictures. Only real complaint was the food. There wasn't a lot of variety. We did eat at Marco Polos one evening and the food and service was superb. Otherwise we ate dinner at the Mexican restaurant outside. Osiris was our waiter the first evening and we requested him throughout our stay. He provided great service, but even better had an amazing personality! We would definitely come back again!"

"Our stay was fantastic. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us and to make sure we had a great time. The front desk was quite friendly and made the entire check-in process enjoyable. Our meal at Marco Polo was wonderful. Housekeeping surprised us everyday with new 'creations' from our towels and bedspread. Everything was so clean and well kept, although the rooms are a little dated. The pool was phenomonal! Our only real complaint was the food...there was not a lot of variety to choose from, although our meal at Marco Polo was fantastic. "

"This was our first girls trip to Cancun but not our last. The Resort was clean and had a great pool and beach area. We loved a few staff's smiling face and the beach side service. However we were a little disappointed when we found out that the color of our wristbands determined our meal and drink choices. We wanted to eat at Marco Polo's for our last meal but were told it was members only that night. If we had known that earlier in the week we would have made plans to eat there on a different day. Overall our trip was great!"

"We have been to Cancun a lot over the past 10 years so I kind of knew what to expect and wasn't expecting 5 star quality. We were on a tighter budget this year (the economy, you know) so we chose a less expensive place. My expectations when we walked in were not very high - there is no lobby to speak of and to be honest it just did not look very nice plus I found out we couldn't eat at the restaurants next door limiting our choices to 3. We started with a 2nd floor no-smoking room with no balcony (only rooms on the end have balconies and there's very few of those). No refrigerator in the room though I complained and they brought one (it was well-stocked throughout the week courtesy of decent tipping). I have to admit that I started the vacation in a bad mood but soon moved on and accepted the hotel for what it was. The food is not incredible (though we ate at Marco Polo four nights and LOVED it), drinks are ok but not high-end, but the service is INCREDIBLE. Everyone working from the bartenders to the wait staff and servers to maintenance always seemed happy and ready to help. We found the service to be fantastic but tipping goes a long way. In fact, we brought $200 in singles just for that purpose and tipped a dollar on minor service (waitress who brought drinks at breakfast), $2 to pool waiters when they brought us drinks, $8-10 to Marco Polo each meal, $5 a day to the maid, etc. Hate to say it but I didn't see too many others tipping. Maybe we had a sign on our head that read 'SUCKER' but I was happy to help others and a few bucks here and there goes a long way. The staff was just exceptional. That and I like my kids to see how important it is to treat others. Would I stay here again? Well when I first walked in, I would have said NO WAY but as the week went on the place grew on me and I found I really enjoyed it. Pool area was very nice, beach is perfect, restaurants/food marginal but you get what you pay for. Yep. I would go back."

"We just returned from a seven day vacation in Cancun. While there, my daughter and I stayed at the Royal Solaris. We have traveled all over the world and we felt our visit to Cancun was one of the most enjoyable vacations we have had in a very long time. The hotel was beautiful. The staff made us feel at home. Not once did we feel we had made the wrong choice in selecting the Royal Solaris. Although the hotel has a number of good restaurants, we would highly recommend the Mexican Rosmarinus Restaurant at dinner time. Each evening the restaurant offers a variety of Mexican cuisine. The entire staff are wonderful. They are helpful, friendly, and entertaining. We enjoy them so much we returned to the restaurant every night we were there with the exception of the only night they were closed. They made us feel like family. Make sure to stop by and try the restaurant you won't regret it. We definitely will plan on returning to the Royal Solaris as soon as we can. Make sure and consider if you plan on visiting Cancun."

"My girlfriend and I went for our first time ever last year. We had a blast! The staff was super friendly, the waiter we got on the first night was so nice we requested him every night htere after and left him a big tip at the end of the week to say thanks. The entertainment staff was awesome, we went clubbing with them, beach soccer and had soooo much fun. If ever there is a resort to stay at it's this one. The only downside was there was no ATM in the hotel so we had to exchange money which was a bit frustrating due to the fact that not everyone uses the same exchange rates? But overall we're planning our trip for this year there and can't wait to go back!!"

We did have one rude woman who was a hostess at the buffet, but she was definitely an isolated incident and I doubt she'll last long there. Everyone was friendly and we had a wonderful time! "The help was very friendly and always happy to help. I was not to impressed with the room. The beds were a little hard and the blanket was made for a twin size bed. My daughter and I had to fight over the blanket, she took the bed spread I took the blanket. I was very upset they I missed a whole nights stay at the resort because of bad weather in Dallas. I had to stay the night there at no cost from the airlines. I was sure glad I have cousins to stay with. They were gracious enough to give me an ocean front room instead of a lagoon view room. I still lost the money on one nights stay and got no other compensation for it. It was not my fault and i kept telling the airline attendant that I have to make a connecting flight and she did not care she kept saying all the connecting flights are delayed as well. There was a mix up on my transportation and I had to pay for it going to the hotel, once I got to the hotel I inquired about it and they said I was booked for transportation."

"The Royal Solaris was great. the service in all the dining rooms and buffet was quick, clean and friendly. The hotel was clean and the gym was well equipped. The only complaint I have is that they have very few rooms with a balcony. The also do not have a fridge in all the rooms. Because I needed a balcony to dry my scuba gear I could not get a fridge with the room and a balcony at that time. The entertainment was also very good. The Canadians in the show were amazing. The sports and entertainment team were friendly and fun. The food in the buffet was great and I really enjoyed dinner in the Marco Polo restaurant. Our waiter was fantastic."

"The resort rooms are not anything special, just a bed, no in room fridge or minibar! The resort is average but the people there are very friendly and made our trip GREAT!! The food is marginal to say the least and you get the same thing over and over and over! They list like 7 or 8 restaurants to choose from when in fact you are only alllowed to eat at 3 of them and the snack bar by the pool! Overall a good trip but will choose somewhere else next time!"

"The rooms were clean and basic: it had told us mini bar fridge, but we did not get one. (Hard to get bottled water outside of room- they put us on a waiting list for another room, which we never heard anything on that), but we went with 3 other couples who 2 of them had a full fridge. Only 3 evening resteraunts, but buffet had good selection, the only thing that got repeatative was the desserts, they have a Mass quanity feel, but the ice cream was great. The 'ritzy' resteraunt had very small elegant portions, which was fun to try ( but we ended up eating again later at one of the other resteraunts) Service for the most part was excellent, an occasional staff ruined my perfect image. The nightly shows were great, and the cast was always so bright and smiley. Caught the city bus just outside, though the staff is unfamiliar with how this works. they also told us it was $0.50, but the bus charged a dollar, even when we had correct pecos the drivers seems to overcharge tourists, but all the busses were good at letting you off at the stop that you told them. only 1 bus wouldn't accept american money., but there is another one usually right behind that one ( HOLD ON-they tend to drive fast and furious) we didn't have young kids, but the kiddie area looked fun and had good reviews from parents there. Thay have a small snack station right by the bar for those who don't want to leave the pool area. the staff around the pool was good at keeping a drink in your hand, they were a little watered down, but that is probably a good thing. Wi-fi is free in the bar and lobby, but they charge for this in your room, to use there computers there is a fee."

"I would like to start with the wonderful staff, they do an excellent job ecspecially the agents that work in the lobby bar as waitresses, very friendly, efficient an welcoming. As far as our room at the resort, it was very clean, but we had asked for oceanview, a balcony, and minifridge, all we got was oceanview. When I went to the desk to see about changing rooms, I was informed they were booked solid for 6 nights, later when my boyfriend asked about switching rooms, they had oceanview with a balcony for $50.00 more a night, and we were informed their good rooms are saved for their members. I had heard another couple complaining about their room, and the next day at breakfast I asked them if they fixed their room for them, they said ohhh yes a nice room with a balcony and Jacuzzi at no extra charge...Then our room had No mini fridge, you are left room temp. bottles of water. No room service, the exhaust fan didn't work in our bathroom so it was damp in our bathroom from showers. Overall this was not a RESORT type room, it was more comparable to a super 8. We were also harassed horribly about going to the meeting for the timeshare...which we did not attend, after the huge disappointment with the room, we would never go back to this resort, we were there for 6 nights, an there are NO ice machines, you have to take your ice bucket to the lobby bar to get ice..."

"We were a party of eight people. Six out of the 8 got very sick with food Poisson during our 7 nights stay.
Staff behind front desk unfriendly. However, the rest of the staff were excellent, kind, friendly, ready to accommodate our needs.
Music in the main restaurant /buffet was extremely laud during meals. It was hard to communicate with others in same table.
The rule on 'no children in hot tub' were not enforce, so it was always full ofchildren.
Service at the beach WAS NOT eco-friendly. waiter will poor any left over drinks including any kind of fruit shakes on the sand leaving a mess.
In room the pluming in shower was ready to break.
On the positive side, they have good entertainment daily.

"Been here numerous times before & loved it. This time something had changed. They are so into selling time shares, 'vacation club memberships' as they call them, that they forgot about what matters...the people who vacation there. Although all the service personnel were great, we were treated like dirt by the property/management. We were forbidden to use Bogavante restaurant like I had done previously since starting to frequent this hotel in 2007. (As I said, I have been here often enough that even the wait staff not only remembered me by name, but remembered who I came with previously.) So, we were told 4 restaurants available...LIES. Rosemarinus was open 1 day out of 8 that I was there. (they stated the weather...it was beautiful all but 1day that rained a bit), snack bar was ok & Las Fuentes food gave my friend food poisoning. She was sick for 3 days. Final restaurant was Marci Polo open only for dinner. It changed menu selections daily for 3 or 4 days then repeated menu. So overall, we had 1buffet for all day, everyday & 1 dinner restaurant which repeated menu numerous times while we were there. If not for wait staff quality of service, I'd be furious, especially for what we paid. TRULY THIS RESORT HAS GONE DOWN HILL BIG TIME & ISN'T WORTHY OF BEING CALLED A RESORT. (I am not a picky person, but DON'T LIE TO ME & PROMISE SOMETHING YOU CAN'T PRODUCE. WORST PART: MANAGEMENT NEVER CARED! Regardless friend had food poisoning, regardless my many trips there prioi, I was told YOU AREN'T A MEMBER BUT IF I PAID ANOTHER $40 per person, per day we could eat lunch @ Bogavante for the day...trust me, it's food isn't worth $40 a day) As far a the shows & entertainment go...not what I had been used to either. They are good but NOT great like previous entertainers. (although there are still 1 or 2 who have been there since I started going the rest are pretty new. I am supposed to be going again end of September with another friend but I am holding off on booking that & SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING ANOTHER HOTEL. BEWARE."

"This was our first visit to Cancun. We were invited into a group of friends and family who were returning to the Royal Solaris after there stay here last year. We booked a non-smoking room but when we arrived they were all filled. The front desk staff put us in an upgraded room on the second floor that was fantastic with an ocean view. With the breeze off of the Sea there was no smoke odor at all, we loved it! Food was good, staff was great,(tip them and they will make your stay), clean, pool and beach access was awesome. We plan to go again next year and there is a real good chance we will stay right here!"

"We had a great time in Cancun. The only complaint about our resort was we booked the jacuzzi room and did not know this type of room was only on the first floor. As the jacuzzi is on the balcony this made using it uncomfortable as anyone from the rooms above could see into the balcony area of our room. Other than that the resort was pretty much what we expected for what we paid. The staff at the pool bar was very friendly and efficient."

"The comments about 'half hour presentation' that it takes 2 hours or more of HIGH PRESSURE sales pitch is absolutely true. We were NOT expecting anything at all; we should get what we paid for, we did not OK the sales presentation.
That being the MAJOR reason for GREAT FRUSTRATION and desire to stay away from it.
Only the location makes me feel revisiting. In fact I feel the presentation tactic is 'PULLING a fast one' on unsuspecting vacationers."

"The Royal solaris was a nice resort and it was our second stay there in six monthes. (the first time better than the second) For the resort to be 25 years old and celebrating that anniversary it is clean and nice. The service and employees were great and friendly.
The draw back is beaware as you check in and are greeted by the conisour at the front desk that they will explain the resort and the services but they will set you up for a 90 minute presentation which turns out to two hours and is a high presure sales pitch for membership in the Solaris Resort time share. They don't like the word 'no'. And after that and they finding out we were repeat customers and also had sent referal guest three weeks prior no incentive or thanks was offered and it was not worth the free T-shirt and wrap they give you.
Other than that it was good, but after two stays there we will find another location next time in Cancun."

"The hotel was close to the airport ..about 15 min.
Everything was clean and neat. The lobby area was impressive, great staff at the reception desk, restaurants, bar area, everyone was helpful and nice. We were upgraded at no additional cost to an oceanview room with a balcony and a small kitchen area. There was a musty smell in the hallway and I think this was because we were right at the beach.
There was plenty of food and a good assortment. We dined in the Marco Polo a couple of nights; the food was more upscale and we found it very good..the staff in the Marco Polo was great. The food in the buffet area was typical buffet food with the cuisine leaning toward Mexican.
The one thing we did not like is that when you first come in they try to talk to you about 'time share' we told them right away we were not interested and had no idea this was a time share hotel. With this in mind you are restricted from going across the way to a different building with other restaurants and ammenities (seafood restaurant, etc)"
