"We arrived late because of flight delays, and probably didn't get the best choice of rooms upon arrival, as a result the one room provided for our children had been smoked in, but we were provided with another room right away. (Smokers please don't ruin good hotels by smoking in their rooms) From then on we had nothing but a pleasant stay. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating, The food was great and with plenty of variety and all day eating if you want. The rooms were very clean and the air conditioning worked great. The king size bed in our room I found very comfortable, my husband thought it to be a little hard. The shows in the evening were great and the entertainment staff worked hard all day to provide fun activities for the whole family. We spent 10 days there and It was a very safe and fun place for the whole family. I would book here again!!"

"We went here for our honeymoon on a budget. It was definately worth the money we paid for it. The food was very good and had plnty of choices at every meal. The staff was always alert and attentive and never expexcted a tip but were gracious when we did. The only complaint is how hard the beds were."

"Our stay here was excellent! The food was good (not GREAT, but very good). We ate at the Mexican Restaurant and Steak House and that was very good as well. The staff was incredible. They are always providing entertainment at the pool and beach, but never push you to do it. The service was great! There are travel agents at the hotel that can help you book every excursion you could imagine and are very helpful. We were well taken care of, felt safe, and had a wonderful time!"

"We stayed there for 5 days and every single one of them were amazing! The only inconvenience was when we got there approximately 6 p.m. 3 hrs. After check in time, they're couldn't give us the room that we booked but they promise they'll give us one the next day, honestly I was tired and we just wanted a room to stay. The room was very nice, clean, not a very good view (we booked a ocean view and got one on the south side of the hotel and all we could see was a house :( ) but the next day they gave us a very nice room (881) . The food, drinks, staff, everything was wonderful!! The pool bar is amazing! The lobby bar is very good too! We saw a lot of people not giving any tips to them ( or any of the waiters, waitress etc.) please be kind or if you are not gonna give any tips, don't be so rude or demanding."

"My family has visited this hotel fgor the last 15 years,the staff and serve is exceptional,with all the new hotels going up in the area this one definitly needs up dating the rooms haven't changed over the years and with the beach disappearing a walk on the beach is becoming almost absedent. Though we've enjoyed our stays over the years I think theres alot more places to stay or at least try. The food is o.k. but never changes from day to day,gets alittle boring after 7 days,even though we do go to regular restarants for dinner, alot of great places for excellant food ,hop the bus for .85 and it takes you anywhere you want to go in town and perfectly safe, been doing it for years, no need to spend money on a cab. Cancun is the Best!!!!!!"

Things I liked: Very friendly staff, Albatros offers great selections for all 3 meals, the ocean-front room has an amazing view and a large balcony Things I didn't like: 1. The restraraunts, Shangri-la, Mexican and Gaviotas are sub-par for even a non-luxary hotel. The food in Shangri-la reminds me of the Panda Express at the airport. Try the steaks at Gaviotas only if your jawbones need a good workout. 2. The pool is clean but a bit out-dated. The bottom in the shallow area is very slippery. 3. "The worst place to stay in Cancun. There was no a.c. in the rooms and the odor in the rooms were very musky that probably came from the leaky commode . The ceiling fan wobbled so bad that the blades actually hit the ceiling. The food was terrible and management didn't care about any complaints."

"This is the worst hotel that I could have ever trusted for my family. We were afraid to sleep in the horrible beds that were hard as rocks and the odor in the room was terrible. The ceiling fan wobbled and rattled all night along with the water leaks from the commode. "All-in-all a very nice experience. However, when we first arrived they put us in a lesser room than we paid for. We paid for a junior suite and got a regular room with three beds. Yes three beds for two people. Worse, we paid for an ocean view and this room was on the second floor behind all kinds of foilage and the restaurant. I guess you could see the ocean through a few small openings in the trees and bushes. When we complained they said they wouldn't have another room available until the next day. We let that go but the next day we had to give up the first room by 11AM and we didn't get another room until 3PM. Until then we didn't feel like we could relax and get down to vacationing. We felt slighted the first day, paying for but not getting the suite the first night becasue maybe they over-sold??
Finally someone at the front desk got us a nice room, like it was recently renovated. One problem there, it was right above the amphi-theater, which was of coarse very noisy unitl 11PM every night. We had to listen to it even if we chose not to attend the show each night.
On a better note, the service was excellent and the food was superb, especially at the asian restaurant. We celebrated our anniversary while there and the maitre d' at the steak restaurant made it very memorable with complimentary champagne and a couple of roses for my wife, as well as a semi private table overlooking the ocean."

I went to Cancun this past weekend. Where to start... I went without a high expecation given the reviews I have read on the website. Some were good, some were bad. But even without much of an expectation, I cannot stress how disappointed I was with the hotel.



There were 6 of us staying at the hotel in two Deluxe-Double rooms. Given that I had made this reservation 4 months in advance, I had requested that the two rooms would be adjacent to each other. When I got to the hotel, I came to find out that the rooms were on one opposite ends of the hotel. When I asked if they could re-assign the rooms, they said there are absolutely no rooms available for them to re-assign us to. (which turned out to be totally false, but I will get to it later)I was a little upset but I figured it wasn't a huge deal so I let it be.



Two of our friends had gotten to the hotel first and had checked into one of the rooms. When I got there, they mentioned that there were ants crawling around in the room. We were disgusted but we let it slide for the moment. However, when they returned to the room later that night, there were ants everywhere. Countertop, Bathroom sink. Shower. You name it. They had even gotten in the suitcases. At this point, we decided no one could possibly stay in the room so we went downstairs to the front desk to request for another room. Answer? There is nothing they can do as there are no rooms available. Up to this point, I figured there is nothing can be done if what they were saying is true and there are really no rooms available. They suggested they send maintenance people to our room and spray pesticide and we can return to our rooms when it's done. Expecting their guests to sleep in a room infested with ants and fume sounds absolutely nuts. But since one of the two rooms was big enough to accomodate the 6 of us, I suggested that we all stay in one room and they give me some sort of compensation or refund for the night we will not be staying in the room. They said there is no manager in duty so they can't do anything but to return in the morning.



The next morning, we went back down to the front desk and spoke with the manager. Unapologetically, the manager told us there is absolutely nothing they can do to compensate or refund for the night we didn't use the room. What's worse? They can't even switch us to a new room. In addition, he even questioned how all 6 of us stayed in one room. Baffled, I questioned what kind of service this hotel is expected to uphold. I paid good money to stay at the hotel and I can't even stay in the room I paid for? After arguing for a good .5 hr, the manager said he would switch us to a different room. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? They had a room (and probably more than one) they could re-assign us to, and only when they finally realized I wasn't going to back down he came out and said, fine, we'll give you a new room. Words cannot express how upset and how frustrated I was at this point.



The next day after breakfast, I went up to my room to get my book. Only to find out my key wasn't working. I thought maybe I got the wrong key so went back down and took all the keys I had. Still didn't work. Went downstairs to let the front desk know and ask for new keys. It took them 6 HOURS, I kid you not. 6 HOURS to send someone, get it fixed (it was out of battery), and send us new keys. We were locked out of our room for 6 HOURS.



I have never been to ANY hotel and had this kind of service. Completely unacceptable. And I don't want to speak for the whole hotel because I had very nice waitors, bartenders and entertainment crew. And delicious food.



But you can imagine, I will NEVER return to this hotel."

"I cannot say enough good things about my time at Riu Caribe in Cancun.

The staff was amazing in friendliness and helpfulness.

My room was cleaned spotlessly every day. My cleaning person made animals out of towels and put them on my bed. So sweet.

The food was more than delicious. There was endless variety and everything was prepared perfectly. Of course the soft-serve ice cream was fabulous at the pool and on the beach.

The drinks kept on coming and they were also good.

I have not one - that's right, not one - complaint about this hotel."

"Well designed hotel, lots of amenities but lacking maintenance. Hot water in rooms was an issue and did not get resolved in entire stay of 7 days. Elevators were broken 2 off 3 were broken putting lot of traffice pressure on 1. Friendly staff and OK food, lots of variety but standard mass produced quality. Sports bar sucks, soft drinks from dispensers very diluted and flat. Entertainment group was friendly and quite good. No WiFi in rooms was a big negative. Christmas eve dinner was very good and elaborately planned. Overall good value for price."

Hotel room seemed a little dated and in need of renovation soon. rest of the building was fine, pool very nice. beach was fine but the water at this resort not very blue or clear. might have to go further east or south on the strip for better water and view. staff were friendly, food was ok but you'll get tired of it after 3-4 days despite the wide variety."

"I've stayed here three times now and love it.Everyone is helpful and pleasant.It's nice to sit on the patio and have a few drinks while on the internet.The buffets are great.We get an extra plate at meal time and then microwave it at night when we get hungry.They have music playing in the lobby everynight and also shows.All rooms are oceanfront..Refrigerators stalked daily.The beach and pool are wonderful.Came back Jun.3,2011 after 2 and a half weeks and looking forward to going back in Nov.2011.My favorite place in the whole wide world."

"This was our first trip to Cancun and did our reservations over the internet. We were taking a chance going to Riu Caribe resort by not seeing it in person. The staff was great, very helpful. The room we had was a smoking room, but you couldn't tell, there was no lingering smoke smell. Great view, ocean on both sides, the pool was huge and very clean. The beach was very clean. The bar had every drink you could think of, not top shelf liquor and two kinds of beer. We rode the city bus everywhere, even to Walmart. We were picked up at the airport by Lomos travel and dropped off to airport. They were on time. It was a great time and I highly recommend it. Cancun is a very safe place to go."

"Beautiful grounds and pool area! The hotel is nice, but the rooms are in need of updating. So is the airconditioning!! We could never cool off. There was a ceiling fan, but we could not adjust the level and it didn't help much as it was slow... It is a more traditional mexican resort with open air lobby, halways, etc. Food was decent. I would stay there again at a cooler time of year, as August is to hot. We had massages on the beach which were awesome and reasonably priced."

"We just got back from an absolutely fantastic holiday to the Riu Caribe Cancun. But first I must say kudos to the bookit.com associate that helped us on the day we left Calgary. We missed our flight check-in time by 5 minutes! And the airline would not let us check in. Oddly enough the flight was late leaving for forty minutes. Called the toll free number for bookit.com and the assistant kept me on the phone for only 5 minutes while she contacted the hotel, transfer company (Best Day - they are the best) to make changes...awesome! Check in at the hotel was a breeze, not even five minutes... I think they just wanted to make sure we started our holiday ASAP. The staff was just fantastic, the bartenders, entertainers were great! The food options were very good, the weather fabulous. Overall I give the hotel and all the staff a 5/5. We will be going back!"

"This was the first all-inclusive my family had stayed at. We were with a group of 40. The hotel was a pleasant surprise on our arrival - very open and active. The rooms were clean and well stocked. The pools and entertainment were plentiful. Food was very good with several choices throughout. The only drawback was the liquor choice. No top name brands and only one beer to drink (No corona). We would have paid for a better whiskey, but they did not have any. Over all everything else was fine and we look forward to going back to Cancun or any other all-inclusive resorts in the next 3 months."
