"I went with my daughter for a quick get away for 5 nights, we both really liked the resort and the staff that cleans the room they were nice, friendly and the room was always cleaned before noon. The front desk guy upon check in was nice enough but I felt because it was just my daughter and myself he may have not treated us as well as others. We were suppose to be upraded to jr deluxe suite and we were not, I asked for a 2 bed non smoking room we got a smoking 2 bed room. But we did not smell any smoke so that was fine. The bathrooms were very nice and updated. We went to get the 'free' shuttle into town you have to make reservations the morning before line up at 8am, nobody told us so we could not make a reservation but the lady told us to show up and perhaps someone would not make the bus. We did this I told the head guy outside that my daughter and I were wanting to make the bus, asked him where should I stand, he told me to stand around the outside desk. We did we were there 45 minutes early infact nobody was there. Next thing you know there were a lot of people 2 buses and I told my daughter we should get in this line. the bus driver says I have 2 openings we were next in the line, and there were people behind me but the wore a different color wrist band then us and you could just tell they wanted them on the bus and not us, I yelled over,'you know we have been here longer than anyone else right?' he then says 'I don't know nothing you need to be in the line!' I said we then good thing we are the next one in line and we got on the bus, but they wanted the couple behind us to get the last two seats. Funny thing we gave the driver a $10 tip, he didn't get anything from the rest of the people on the bus! The staff at this resort looks at the color of you wrist band before you get looked in the eye, or be treated nicely. I am kind and friendly with everyone and I was a little stunned by the way we were treated. Yes I would go again we did have fun but I would upgrade with the money I used to tip with, and tip less!"

"My husband and I just returned from our stay on May 5th. Anyone that has complained about this resort is someone that can't be pleased with anything. There is a lot of walking,but how can you complain when you are in such beautiful surroundings. The resort is very clean,there is staff cleaning everywhere. We had a swim out room which I would highly recommend, the pool is at your disposal anytime. Our room was very clean,our housekeeper was very efficient. I did not like making reservations for the restaurants,but we were able to eat at all the ones we wanted to. Miso was by far the best,we ate there twice. There was a schedule of activities that you can join, or you can just relax and do nothing. There was a market in the main square on Thursday night with local artists,and prices were very reasonable. Overall we had an excellent stay and would highly recommend staying here:)"

"I've read a lot of reviews from this hotel before booking. The reviews are either really negative or really positive; barely any in between ratings, but I LOVED IT. We got a free upgrade from the Junior Suite to the Deluxe Junior Suite. There are a lot of complaints about the resort being too big. Yes, the walk from the lobby to the beach might be a 20 mins, but what people don't understand is that this is TWO resorts combined together. There are also shuttle rides that comes every 10 minutes for those who are unwilling to walk, but I found the walk quite enjoyable and relaxing especially after a filling dinner. The staff and workers are all incredibly hard working and super friendly. They kept all the grounds and pools clean at all times. There were a lot of complaints about the staff being rude, and all I have to say to that is I've seen A LOT MORE rude guests. We were at the Miso Teppanyaki dinner where the chef did a great job at entertaining and cooking for our table. After he was done, my friends and I and two other younger guests tipped him. Four of the older guests didn't even bother. Later on, the same four older guests left with 3/4 of the food still left on the plate without giving a single penny for tips for the bus boys that were also serving us. Tipping is not mandatory, but I've seen guests at a la carte restaurants ordering excessively with wine and leaving with plates still full and not even a cent for tips. If I was an employee and I saw how much waste these people leave behind and not a single penny for gratuity, I wouldn't be very happy myself. It's funny because I only notice this with the older guests. Younger people seem to be more willing to tip. I also noticed another older women drinking coffee at one of the buffets, one of the employees came to her smiling and wanted to drop off a plate of cream and milk for her coffee. She rudely snapped back at him pointing out that she already had milk and cream on her table. He walked away still smiling and she was looking at him shaking her head as if he did something senseless. Are you kidding me?!? You have to understand that a lot of people nitpick about EVERYTHING, if you're not one of those people, then you'd definitely enjoy this resort. P.S. Everyone should go to Coco Bongo at least once in their lives. It is an experience of a lifetime and I would go again in a heartbeat."

"First day we arrived they tried to 'up' sell us into a better room by putting special braclettes on our arm for just 25 more dollars a day. After I said no they cut the braclettes off and put the less impressive ones on. When I asked what the difference was it included free internet and different towles not sure if that is worth 25 more dollars a day. 3rd day my cell phone was stolen and they did not act to quickly to help us. We bought a romantic dinner on the beach at the resort to be charged 30 dollars more then what the menu stated the meal cost. It was so windy were they had us sit that we could not eat. When I complained and even showed them the price difference they did nothing. We went to town on the 'free' shuttle. But we were told there was limited return seat at 5 pm and it would cost 4 dollars each to return earlier. The first night the mop bucket was left in our room and we had to return it so we could get some clean towels."

"My wife and I really thought that this would be a GREAT hotel but... I am not sure if we were expecting too much or what but I was expecting a way cleaner beach first of all. 'Our own private butler', maybe I misunderstood that part but that was not what we had. 1 for all the 'Platinum' people. My biggest problem with the resort and maybe with Mexico but the food was horrible!! I mean horrible!! The blandest tasting food even down to the snacks or anything for that matter. "Demographics- 'Relation Vacation', two adults, 39 & 40 from Indiana. Room- Platinum suite on third floor balcony. Here we go, an honest review. I hope you appreciate the level of detail. The resort was beautiful! I've stayed in approximately 10 resorts on vacations and this was the most beautiful! Transportation: Very organized. Go straight through airport in Cancun directly outside you will find the agents. Don't stop in the hotel, you will be accosted by other travel agencies! Keep going. 45 minute drive from Cancun airport to resort. Don't be alarmed when you arrive. The entrance is long and fenced. Resort arrival. Beautiful. It's actually two resorts in one. We felt the pictures didn't do the view justice. Check in was easy;however, you cannot check in until 3:00! You can still access facilities. I recommend booking return transportation and excursions during this time. Room: Gorgeous. Platinum third floor. Balcony view of both the lush property/pools and the beach. Jacuzzi tub on the balcony. Room had a stand up 'rain' shower, seperate toilet, double sink, and another jacuzzi tub! There was a sliding screen which opened the bathroom up to the rest of the suite. Two ceiling fans helped circulate the air. Housekeeping did a great job! We tipped $5 per day. Asked for more canned beer for the room and they delivered. Never an issue. Concierge in Platinum will book all your dinners at once. If you're not platinum you can only book 3 nights at a time and have limited options. Shuttle is available between Platinum and the main lobby. Restaurants- More of the same typical of all inclusive restaurants. We ate seafood, which was okay, steak, which was okay, and the Mexican restaurant, not so good. Alcohol- Draft Corona, and top shelf Platinum bar. Drinks were always flowing. Entertainment- Plenty to do in the evenings with bands, entertainers, etc. Tips: Bring floats for the pool. Bring your own insulated cups, the bars will make your drinks in them. Reserve beach chairs with towels first thing in the morning. Pool had plenty of chairs but beach would run out. Massages on the beach from the vendors got great reviews from people we talked to. Bring a spray bottle for poolside or beachside....hot! Towels are provided but we brought our own. Upgrade to Platinum. Specify your room/bed preference in the reservation. Limited King size beds available. Book enough time between flight into US to get through customs and meet connection. Suggest at least 3 hours. Several people missed connections. Cons: Bed was hard, but we still slept fine. Air was not super great, but we used ceiling fans and the balcony screen door and were plenty comfortable with the ocean sounds. Beer was draft Corona."

"This resort was crazy clean and we loved the food. It is a very long walk to everything, so make sure you have comfy shoes. We booked our excursion and had a great experience. The only change we would make is taking the sailing trip out of Playa versus Cancun. The drive to Cancun was much longer than we thought it would be since you stop to pick up other passengers and drive well into Cancun. We had to check out at noon on Sunday but had a two hour wait for our bus to the airport, the hotel let us keep our wrist bracelets and continue to enjoy the resort until we left. That might be standard at all places, but we were happy they were so accommodating."

"Great trip. The Ala Carte food was fantastic. We spent a little extra for the Yucatan suite (adults only). It was nice, quiet alternative to the party pool and had more restaurant options. It really was the way to go for a minimal price increase. The main pools are not adults only if that is a necessity. I read many reviews speaking of the slippery walkways. When wet, or with wet feet they could be slippery but simple solution was to wear sandals and no problems. Really think people are overexaggerating the issue. I imagine most resorts are similar construction. Highly recommend resort and would go back in a heartbeat. Felt extremely safe at resort as well as in Playa Del Carmen."

Here's the deal..you tip you get better service?...not always at this resort. We had a great waitress at the beach but that is one out of 1500.. The only DISSAPOINTMENT was the alcohol. The resort lists Smirnoff as the vodka served however, it seemed as if it was only available until 7-8pm then there wasn't a bottle to be found and the well vodka tasted like rubbing alcohol. "It took the front desk THREE days to get us the 2 beds we requested. They sent a cot for the 2nd night with no blanket/pillow. Our safe wasn't able to work in each of the rooms we had. Consequently, It cost us a nonrefundable $8 to come back to the hotel, because we couldn't get the transfer paper, which was locked in our safe, which took multiple phone calls to security to finally open. The drinks were very over sweetened and watered down. The restaurant booking was a real hassle compared to other AI hotels (6) I've stayed at. The hotel is unbelievably clean and the working staff were supremely friendly, but the front desk supervisor was no help to us nor was the concierge(who said they didn't have any extra transfers to let us go on the shuttle, nor could they locate the one we'd filled out previously the day before, although this is where one is to get them)!! It was a constant battle with them, over these little things that disrupted our vacation almost every day. Otherwise, there is a wide variety of food, and the place is beautiful. Be forewarned that the lobby has 3 steep flights of stairs to ascend and the place is very spread out, a 10 minute walk at least to their beach access."

"The reviews I read on this before choosing this resort were congruent with the experience I had at the resort. It all depends on what is important to you when you travel. "I was terribly dissapointed with this trip. I fell on the second day due to the slippery path to get everywhere. After a bag of ice put to the back of my head I was sent off. No staff member walked me back to the far away pool I was sitting at. I could not go to dinner that night due to pain and fright I had.Room service would not send anything unless I paid for it. I fell because lunch was closed and the only food was on the beach right pas the showers that made the walk so dangerous. The hotel was so huge nothing not even getting your towel was less then almost a mile away. Drinks throughout all tasted like water even the wine. What could I say it was my least favorite vacation I have ever been on."

"The resort only has one adult pool ! There's no waiter service ( too lazy workers) Don't upgrade to platinum save your money. Our first night they gave us a room with two beds. Next day we got our our king size room. later that night i noticed a Fire Ant in the the room. Later we found more. house keeping had to bug spray the room . The next day an outside company was called in to spay the room with heavy duty spray. Well that didn't help, they had to spray the room four more times the whole week we where there. We asked the hotel managennt for our money back on the upgrade ,they told us they would see what they can do. We asked to change rooms , ' they didn't hane any' Our last night in the Nigthmare room my wife screemed a Cockroach in closet!!!!"

"I had a very frustrating trip to Playa Del Carmen due to a series of mistakes made by the hotel staff. 1) I paid for internet for the week as I was only able to book a junior deluxe sweet (platinum not available). This worked sometimes but unfortunately it only works for one device...not at a time but one device period! meaning if your phone was on and it auto-joined the Wifi, you cannot later connect your computer. 2) I booked a day excursion to Xel-ha through the tourist agent at the hotel. they charged me just fine but then somehow forgot to call and put my name on the list to the agency who actually takes us to the park. thus i was not allowed on the bus despite being there on time at 7:25 am and had to take a taxi myself to the park (which is very expensive) and the only way i was let in the park is by luck that someone else from my hotel did not show up. 3) I asked 2 days in advance about arranging a shuttle back to playa del carmen to take the bus to the airport for my return flight. however, i was told this is not possible more than one day in advance. when i called the following day, i was told nothing is available, and when i tried to inquire why, instead the concierge asked me a series of questions to try to find a reason why i shouldn't be left on...'do you have baggage?'...'no, only a small hand carryon i can put on my lap'...'sorry sir, you can't get on the shuttle with any luggage'...'But i can hold the small bag on my lap!' Overall, it is a beautiful place, but with these mistakes, the worst part is that the staff was very defensive and instead of trying to help me, they were very argumentative about why this was not their problem. Eventually I asked to see a copy of their terms about their shuttle which they refused me...'No I don't need to show you...this is Mexico.' So I would recommend this place if you don't mind possibly missing your excursion, you don't intend to pay for internet and you don't need a shuttle at any time."

"We read a lot of reviews and were a little skeptical.We decided to book the best they had to offer'Laguana Villas',and we were not disappointed. We were 5star treated our entire visit, it was fantastic. Our private pool area was great, w/our own bar and waitress who was exceptional, never had to get off our butts for a drink ever. First class service always. The restuarants were excellent. As for the buffets we were platinum so we went to the platinum buffet for breakfast and lunch daily, where we were given the choice of the buffet or ordering from a menu. This service is only available to Platinum and Laguan Villa guests, so my advice is if you want 5 star service get Platinum suite or Laguana Villa, You won't regret it. Resort was very clean and well kept and staff always was very helpful. The beach was ok not as bad as other people said, we agree not having vendors on beach would be nice . As we understood the resorts have to pay the gov. To not allow them on the resort beach if resort does not pay then vendors are allowed. All in all we had a fantastic vacation and we would definitely return. "

"the resort is huge, which really works against it. The wait staff was often rude and gladly took the tips with not so much as a thank you or eye contact. The floors and bridges were VERY slippery in the rain and I have the bruised knees to prove it. The grounds are beautiful and in our opinion, it is the only thing the resort has going for it. They had us in a deluxe room near the meat market pool with loud music all day and drunk people everywhere around 11am... On day 3 we upgraded to platinum and things got a little better from the service perspective. But the food did not. The buffets were awful, the mexicans wouldn't even eat the 'mexican food'. The a la cart restaurants were a let down with rubbery calamari and poor cuts of meat. Avoid the resort at all cost if you were looking for a delicious and romantic getaway. We don't recommend it, and won't be looking to princess for any future holidays."

"First and foremost the resort is beautiful ! The grounds are so well kept and the beach is very nice, a little rocky when you first walk in but quickly changes to soft sand. We booked 2 rooms, 1 for my husband, daughter and myself & the other for my brother & my son. As most people have stated we requested rooms next to each other or at least close by but this did not happen. My brother along with my son were placed 15 rooms down from us and we were told this was the best they could do! I was a bit perturbed considering we do travel around the Caribbean alot and have never been placed that far away from our traveling companions which are always family members, honestly we have always been right next door to one another. The food in my opinion was the biggest downfall, everything was so so at best, & because of the walking distance to the restaurants, that were in the the lobby, and the rooms closer to the beach you better have good legs because it is quite the haul!!! We kinda looked at it as a way of burning off what we over indulged in for the day. I would still recommend this resort but have people know exactly what to expect, an absolutely beautiful resort with blah food."

"Absolutely wonderful experience. Beautiful resort. Very nice accomodations. Rooms were nice and very clean. Patio area in the adults only accomodation that we stayed at was very private. Could have spent the entire 5 days there. However, left to go on some day trips. Good experience with the days trips too. Not to badly priced either. Friendly and accomodating drivers. Resort's staff was wonderful. Made me feel like a princess in paradise. However, I was a bit frustrated at times in terms of scheduling dinners at the various resort resturants. Felt that the food was better than expected at all of them. Liked the variety and service was exceptional. However, scheduling was not very easy to do. Often times all slots were full for the first couple of days. Lucky to even be able to schedule something. Ate a lot later than I wanted too on most occasions 9 or 9:30 in order to get a spot at some of them. Not easy to be spontaneous. Room was clean, but smelly. It smelly musty. Requested a change of rooms. Originally was on the ground floor. Could not accomodate the request on the first day that it was made. The following day was offered a different room in a different location. The room was one floor up. Was not quite as smelly, but there was still an odor. Since it was not completely free of the musty smell, CM decided to stay in the original room. Read a review about things being slippery. Did not personally fall, but definately see how it can happen with all the tile. One day it rained. While my husband and I took shelter under the awning of a building, we observed several individuals fall on the wet sidewalks. The nightly entertainment was very good. We took advantage of watching the bands and even took in one of their resort broadway shows. Drinks very readily available. Beach was beautiful and services were nearby (ie. food and drink). Scheduling a complimentary shuttle to Playa del Carmen was very hard to do. Have to arrange only 24 hours ahead of time and often times the concierge was not present when we left for our day trips. Went to Explorer and Xel Ha for our two days trips. Enjoyed both of them. Would higly recommend this resort. Had a great time."

"The best part of my trip to Mexico was my flight. The moment we walked into the hotel we had a negative experience. The staff was unhelpful, rude, and incompatient. After checking in the room we requested wasn't avliable and the other rooms where. All three rooms we booked were dirty and we ended up cleaning them ourselves. Even though we made multiple requests to the staff to clean the room. Every day we would have to request extra towels and they were usually never brought back. The staff in the resturants were not able to do their job. They kept walking past open tables and walking in circules just to seat us. After which we ended up finding our own tables for ourselves."

"Have just returned home from a 7 night stay. Reservation showed we were in Sunset..not we were to be in the Riviera portion of the resort. The grounds and buildings are excellent and very well tended. Clean and bright, there is staff working everywhere. We always stay in Platinum which does cost more, but to us it is worth it. Except maybe this time, Platinum is no longer adults only..so the private pool was no longer quiet and relaxing. The private lounge club, small buffet and private concierge who made all of our bookings for the ala carte restaurants that we requested was great. Then we find we have no water view. We love the Resort. This was our 5th trip there. Staff is very friendly, food is good, both in buffet and ala carte restaurants, great drinks available everywhere, and good shuttle service throughout resort. As for the previous reviewers comments..yes, there is beautiful marble everywhere, yes..it is very slippery when wet, yes, you need to be careful when walking. I would highly recommend this resort to everyone."

"Our experience was ok, not great, as anticipated. Our trip started with a delay in our take off for about 45 minutes, then when we arrived in Mexico about an hour or longer wait to go through customs not once but twice. When we finally were out of the airport the transfer to the hotel was another wait and was chaotic and unorganized with the transfer company, another 45 minutes or so. We finally arrive at the resort after another 40 minute ride for another long line of wait and when at the resort. We get to our room which was nice but it had a king size bed instead of the 2 doubles which were requested. When I called the front desk, I was told that they were unable to to do anything that this massive resort was full and there were no rooms available??? We were put on waiting lists for room change to 2 doubles and also for upgraded rooms which never occured or was ever addressed by the resort. The staff was ok as far as being friendly but I have been in Mexico many times and found this staff as fair in comparison to other resorts I have been to. The resort is very large and alot of walking is involved back and forth to the main part of the hotel where the restaurants and bars are located also. "It is a beautiful resort, and all in all we had a good time. There were some issues though. When I booked, I requested two beds. When we got there the room had only one king size bed. I called to see if I could change rooms, but they could not accommodate me. Also, I booked a massage and facial at the spa. I paid for 80 minutes, and was done in 60. When I tried to get my money back for the extra 20 minutes, I was given a hard time. Eventually I was given a refund, but not without a fight."

"The food was ok. We were often pressed for tips and I was glad I brought my papers with me regarding the gratuities. We had some good meals, but mostly not so good.l In order to get reservations befor 9pm for dinner, it was necessary to be in line at 2 pm. 4 days prior to when you wanted to eat! No one wants to be in line in the middle of the afternoon! We never were able to eat before 9pm my bed time! This was extreamely irritating. The snorkling excursion was absolutely excelllent except for the weather! The guides, the lunch, transportation was all excellent. Pools Ocean, bars all great. We had a good time."

"We stayed from the 10-17th of April 2012.Its is a beautiful resort and very large.As stated in previous reviews everything from the floors to the bridges are slippery when wet,(which is always).The food at the buffets was good but we also were unable to make any reservations for the dining.The shuttle service to town is a joke you have to sign up the day before and if your not there by 8am to do it you can forget going unless you take a cab.$20.00 each way for a car $40.00 each way for a van.What really made the trip unpleasant was the staff at this resort. When we arrived we had booked 2 rooms,1 with a king bed and 1 with 2 doubles.When we arrived in the rooms only one was right and when we called the front desk they said they didn't have any rooms with doubles unless we upgraded to the swim up rooms!!! This of course was an additional charge. I've been to Cancun/Playa area for 10 plus years in a row with both large and small groups and have stayed at a variety of resorts.This was my first and last visit to this resort."

"We went with a group of 14 (4 families) and had a great time. Two of the families in our group had kids and two did not. Even though we booked the Sunset side of the resort, they actually put all of us in the Riviera side. Not a big deal because they are mirror images of each other and you can visit any of the facilities on either side. We all book the Platinum suites, but I think because they were fully booked, they put the two families without kids in the adults only Yucatan Platinum suites (which I recommend if you don't have kids with you). Like pretty much any resort in Mexico, the grounds are beautiful.... and there are good and bad things. It all boils down to what is important to you. Resort: It is a huge resort. It is about a 15 minutes walk from beach to lobby, so if you have problems walking make sure to book the platinum upgrade so you have access to the platinum shuttle service. Restaurants/Food: Most restaurants are in the lobby building. There are also two restaurants for breakfast/lunch buffets near the beach and a grill on the beach that serves burgers/hot dogs/chips and changing item such as wings, tacos. The buffet food for breakfast and lunch were like any others. Some things were good, others not so good. We only ate twice at the buffet for dinner, once on the first night we arrived which was pretty good (Tex-Mex night) and once at a special Platinum Club 'Gala' night. That buffet was pretty bad. We were sorry we gave up an ala-cart restaurant for the Gala. The ala-cart restaurants we went to were Tapa: Not really a Tapa's restaurant... it's just named Tapas (Spanish food). The food was good, but the service was very very slow. It was 1.5 hours for dinner (just two courses). La Fleur (International). This was our best meal. Every course was excellent, especially the Fillet. Miso (Japanese display cooking). Probably the best fried rice ever. Excellent chicken. Steaks and Fish also included with more mixed reviews. Excellent chef who put on a fun show. Mama Mia (Italian): Everything was pretty good, but not outstanding except the chicken parmigiana. Pizza and Lasagna were all good. If Platinum, you can order off of menus for breakfast and lunch at the buffets. The food is really good off the menu, but service is very slow. Bars/Drinks: The alcohol selection is pretty average. Standard drinks include Bacardi, Johnny Walker Red, Jose Cuervo, Smirnoff, Corona. Platinum upgrade gets you Havana Club, Jack Daniels, Absolut , captian morgans among others at the platinum clubs, lobby bars and most restaurants. There are swim up bars at pretty much every pool. The Sports Bar is open 24/7 and always has snacks available as well as pool and air hockey. The drinks were very good and plenty strong. Pools: There are pools everywhere in this resort... and they are all beautiful. There are swim up bars in all of them, except maybe the adults only pools in the Yucatan section. (They do have a pool bar poolside). The main pools are all right down the middle of the Sunset and Rivera resorts. There is an identical pool on each side, and there are three sets of these pairs of pools. The ones closest to the lobby seems to be the quiet pools. The set in the middle are the party/activity pool. The set closest to the beach are somewhere in between. I've never been to a resort that had so many pool choices. Beach: Nice big beach. There is an adults only section on one side. A small roped off area for platinum members that includes wait service. The only problem I had is that they put a bunch of vendor huts and massage huts right up on the beach so if you were sitting behind them, all you could see were the huts. Not a good layout. Once you go in, the ocean is very rocky. You'll want to wear some sort of footware if you go in. I would say the beach is one of the worst I've been to in Mexico. Overall I liked the resort and would return if I got a really good deal. If you don't mind walking and can deal with an average at best buffet, I would not hesitate to recommend coming here. But, don't pay full price. Wait for a deal."

"Where to start, arrival was great! What a beautiful place. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Check-in for us was smooth and easy - not so much for the couple we were with. Our room had direct access to the main pool bar which was great for us. We got to our room put on our suits and headed out our deck to the festivities already under way. My girlfriend and I after one drink which was delicious headed back to my room to pee and I slipped and fell in my room on the hard marble floor and cracked my head. This was within the first two hours of being on vacation. The doctor on the facility was very nice to the tune of $200 US dollars and all she did was give me shot to help the swelling. This was after our $50 US dollar cab ride to the emergency room (which wanted $3,000 US dollars upfront before they would even see me and take my information.) So I returned back to the hotel with my husband extremely upset that the resort did nothing for us. When I say nothing I mean absolutely nothing, no cab ride - no hospital - no doctor - nothing. I tried to stay the entire trip but was unable due to the head injury I abstained. Hotel did not offer to refund or book another time. Was told that we needed to sue for the hotel to be responsible for anything. The food was okay, nothing really exciting for my tastebuds except for the meats on the buffet - they had good flavor. The pools were great and you could go to the loud main pool bar or spend a nice quiet time at four other areas. Good for all ages. There is a lot to see and the beach is okay, not one of my favorite spots, but all in all not too bad. Booking ahead for restaurants is a pain, they fill up quickly and are not that good. The day trips are nice and I thought reasonably priced. It is beautiful and private place, not easy to get into town, you need a cab or book the bus that goes into town the day before. If you're spontaneous like myself, not very convienent. I read previous review with similar complaints and should've paid attention and believed. I would not go back to this resort only because the experience I had was terrible. As far as the injury - we met four other people that had fallen and either twisted an ankle or fell on tailbone. From the floors to the walkways, everything is slippery. I will go back to Cancun - we enjoyed that, but not Playa."

"The resort was SO BEAUTIFUL & situated perfectly in the middle of everything. About 20 minutes to xPLOR & xcaret, 45 min to Tulum and 2 hours to Chichen itza but the transportation is so easy to get booked. The food was good to me...Our favorite was MISO hibachi and le fleur restaurant. We stayed in the grand yucatan rooms (adults only) and it was very peaceful and quiet. The staff was AMAZING. Nicest people I have ever met. Anything you needed, they were more than happy to help you. Only thing I would say is a negative is that the resort is almost TOO BIG. It took us a 5-10 minute walk to get to the beach and although they have some mini carts that will pick you up, it can be a hassle for older adults. I myself didnt really care but I overheard some people complain about that."

"The resort was huge, the trolleys would not stop to pick you up, too much walking, which was the least of my complaints during this stay. guy at check-in was very impolite, and unfortunately we got him at check-out as well. Room did not have an iron and I had to call front desk two times to ask for it - wasting 45 minutes in the room waiting for them to finally bring it. Then our refrigerator was broken as well - had to wait another 30 minutes for someone to come to bring a working one. On the beach, if you were lucky to find a chair you couldn't move it ANYWHERE, because if you did you had a worker come to up to you and tell you that you can't move them becuase they are for platinum guests; however, you were able to sit on them - does that make any sense? If you wanted a chair right near the ocean (they have a rope that divides those chairs from the other chairs) you had to pay $5 per chair per day - I thought this was all-inclusive. I have never expereienced something like that in my life - and I travel to all-inclusive places a lot. Additionally, we made reservations at the Fondue restaurant adn forgot our reservation ticket at home - the host would not let us use our reservation although he had us written down on the schedule because we forgot our tickets - he told us to go back and get the reservation ticket - which was a mile away, no way! The beach itself had rocks as soon as you stepped into the water. Overall, I would never stay here again and never recommend it to anyone. I didn't get that great of a deal on it this time and actually I think it was pretty expensive for the services and the amenities that this resort provided. Never again! What a huge dissappointment!!"

"Okay the price is good, the resort is beautiful, but the food is very bland and generic. I believe the resort has it set up to make reservations really hard to get, once you get there and check in they may have a slot available for one dinner during your entire stay @ an alacarte restaurant, we went to Miso which is similar to Wasabi or benny hanni, BUT you may have to do table seating since there is only a few slots available for hibachi style, food was still bland but better than buffett, But you have access to the buffets all day, and the food is not good, more like jail food. The alcoholic drinks are kind of watered down, and the food you get in the bars are not that good, hamburger, fries, nachos, hot dog,, just bland hot dogs sort of raw, and fries don't taste like fries..I DON'T LIKE TO COMPLAIN, but the truth is the service is great, resort beautiful, drinks a little watered unless you get frozen drinks, but other than that this place is awesome, beach nice, rooms nice, clean, if the food was good I would say almost 5 star,,if food is a priority you may want to book some place else/and we went on the pirate cruise THAT WAS AWESOME, it wasn't corny, we got lobster and steak we needed some real food, open bar on boat too,, Best day travel was good but they drive very, very, very fast! Don't get suckered in @ the airport w/ free excursions, that's for time share etc.. if the shirt doesn't say Best day travel keep it moving they will be outside, they are very responsive, book excursions through them. Good Luck! We had the junior deluxe that was good enough for us, I didn't feel under graded we were able to be included in everything, overall besides the food we had an awesome time, beautiful, beautiful resort, and we got a free upgrade! "Like others who've posted here, I was disappointed by some of the nitty-gritty details of this resort. It was HUGE, which made walking everywhere annoying. The food was so-so, and having to make reservations beforehand was super annoying. I'm pregnant, so I couldn't drink despite having booked an all-inclusive so when my friend who lives there showed up, we were hoping she could enjoy the beach and some beverages with us-- but we had to pay $70 for a day pass for her. With that, she was required to leave by 6 pm, but we snuck her into dinner-- which was so-so. The best food there was at Mama Mia-- the Italian restaurant-- and definitely not the culture we intended to experience on this trip. Oh, we couldn't make local calls either-- we were hung up on when we asked why it had to be international for us to call a local number. Lastly, we felt like most people at the resort were not there to experience the culture but to lounge around and get drunk by the pool. We found the beach area to be much nicer-- but we had to get out there to reserve spots by 7 am if we wanted chairs and an umbrella. Anyway, not our cup of tea-- and will not go there again. Playa del Carmen, however, was beautiful and we'll definitely return to the city-- just stay somewhere else."

"The resort was huge and very spread out so it seemed there was too much walking at times. All of the main dining was up front at the lobby area. Food was just ok. We were unable to get into some of the reservation restaurants because they booked up so fast. The beach was nice but very crowded with vendors and roped off so you couldn't just take in the view without the obstacles in the way. Entering the water was very rocky and took some doing to get out far enough to clear the rocks and enjoy the waves. Then of course you had to backtrack over rocks to get out. The pools were nice but didn't connect so you had to get out of one to get into another. The resort we were at last year had all connecting pools. The bars were nice but the staff really didn't have the personality to get to know you and the service at the bars were very slow. You could easily wait 15 minutes just to get the bar tenders attention. Everything about the entire resort seemed understaffed and we heard more times than not that they didn't speak English and walked right by you if you had a question. Last year at another resort the bartenders had your drink waiting for you and knew you by name. The rooms were very nice however ours smelled musty. The shower leaked at the base more from the design than anything as we heard from everyone that they experienced the same thing. The shower was a stand up shower and it had a tiny little shelf for toiletries. Our pillows were terrible! If you visit this resort, bring your own pillow!! I know this makes the resort sound terrible and it really wasn't. We had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed ourselves immensely however there were things we couldn't help compare to last year which was better. We won't return to this one but if you go you will have a good time."

"We have three kids, 6, 4, and 1, and staying here in the platinum suites was perfect for us. We were sheltered from the crowds, the attentive staff was so helpful, and we avoided lines. One of the workers held our son while we ate so that we could enjoy our lunch. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff. They do not ignore your kids; it was such a wonderful family environment. I heard a lot of complaints about the food, but at a massive resort like this, I really did not have high expectations. We loved the buffets for our kids and at night we ordered room service, which was surprisingly awesome. We had one of the platinum consierges watch the kids one night and went to Chill Out (an excellent restaurant on the beach) that was literally a 5 minute walk from our room. She was wonderful and I totally trusted her! It was a long haul up to the lobby for the little ones in the heat. We often waited for the golf cart shuttle. I did hear/read that people thought the beach was not fabulous. I thought it was great, and I have traveled quite extensively. My kids played in the sand and loved splashing in the water. A family that we befriended took us out on a catamaran ride (not included but pretty cheap) that was a blast. We did not go on any excursions, but they went on one with Selvatica and they RAVED about it. All in all, there were little things that I am sure were not perfect for other people but I found that the platinum suite here was perfect for us."

"This hotel is a beautiful hotel with beautiful landscape gardens. However it is very large and there is alot of walking to get to the beach. Compare to other resorts that we have stayed the food was so, so. The resturants were nice but lacked any atomosphere of a restaurant or difference between the buffet mass resterants. Turn down service happened one night only for us.They rocked up one other night at 11.45pm to turn beds down. To go to the restaurants you had to make a reservation which we did not understand as most the time the resterants were empty, my husband thought it was to monitor the amount of food the resterants had to produce the other thing was it was hard to have all your meals for dinner planned out for the week instead of being able to be spontanous, you needed to book the rest in advance to get in and it seemed most of the time we had to eat at 6pm or 9pm which were our only choices. It was a pleasant vacation but alittle disapponinting on the details. I am going to try another resort next time. I would still recommend it but would recommend the following make all your reservations for dinner on the first day there. Definately upgrade to one of the packages that offers extras you get alot more for your money and I felt better sercvice over all. Also do not get tricked into the massagaes on the beach. They are really bad."

"It's a nice big resort but there were some things I did not like about this resort. Pool was dirty (but it might of been because of the windy day), there was a cockroach on the floor at the Hacienda restaurant, and we found a hair in the sunset buffet. And on the last day Best Travel called my room saying that the time had change and we had to be at the loddy in 15mins or else the shuttle would leave us to go to the airport. Best Travel didn't leave us a message or a note in the room for this change. I ran out of my room to catch a car to take us to the lobby so we wouldn't miss our shuttle to the airport. For running out so quick out of my room and not being able to do a last mintue check to see that I didn't leave anything behind, I left my textbook from school that cost me 120 dollars. I called the next day to see if it would be possible to mail it back to me and they said they didn't find anything in my room. I know I left it there on top of the desk. They said that nothing was found and that I was able to do a report to see if it would be found somewhere else WHAT? it was left in my room not any where else. The lady in the lost and found at the end hung up on me NOT COOL. I was very upset and not happy with this hotel. I would not go back."

"We had a great time, and the value you get for the price is amazing. We went with the Laguna Villa Suite and everything was included. I wouldn't recommend going with anything less than that though based on other peoples comments. We had access to our own private pools (which were amazing because there are only a few people there), the premier buffets (which were really no different than the others but still adequate), had our own pool concierge that was amazing in booking our reservations for us, and got complimentary 30 minute massages (AMAZING) & champagne (mediochre) upon arrival. We had complimentary 24 hour room service which was excellent for when you don't feel like trucking all over the resort for buffets or reservations. The resort is enormous and very well maintained - beautiful sitting areas all over and lots of places to get drinks all over the resort. The beach was a little less than stellar and very crowded, and even though we had our own waiter in the premier section of the beach it was very hard to get drinks there. The dining was good, but nothing over the top. The seafood restaurant was by far the best because our waiter actually brought us bottles of wine instead of the house wine in a flask (which was not very good). The drinks were amazing by the pool and the service was absolutely wonderful. If you tip them they stop by about every 10 minutes. Our Laguna suite was absolutely amazing with the outdoor shower and 2 person jacuzzi. IT was clean and well taken care of every day. The mini fridge was restocked minimally every day with 4 sodas and 2 beers, and 3 bottles of water. They provided three complimentary bottles of liquor, but finding ice on the resort was the most difficult task! I thought the beds were very comfortable, but the electricity is controlled by your room key...so when you leave your room the air conditioning is shut off. I get the trying to save energy costs, but I want a nice cool room when I come in from the heat so I was a little dissapointed by this. Over all as I stated earlier the value we got for the price we paid for seven nights all inclusive with airfare was over the top, and we couldn't have been happier with the trip!"

"The resort was nice and clean, food was very average and in some cases poor. Very difficult to make reservations. Service was slow. Workout facility was dirty. The air conditioning in the Platinum suite we were in didn't work well and the room smelled like the swamp across the street. Our ride to Playa Del Carmen was unacceptable on the return. They only had 40 spots on the return and several people had to pay their way to return. They told us to be at the pick up spot at 4:20 and then they didn't leave until 5:30, which was ridiculous. Beach was nice and it was easy to get chairs. I will not go back and would not recommend."

"We just got back from Cancun on Sunday. We had a Junior Deluxe Suite on the third floor with swim-up pools just below our window. (If we would have jumped out of our third story balcony window, we would have landed in the beautiful swim-up pool below! Not that we would do that, but just sayin!) The whole resort was FAR BEYOND what we were expecting!!! Our suite with King-sized bed was really beautiful and everything was clean and classy. We had a jacuzzi in our suite, but didn't end up using it since we both got sunburned on the 2nd day we were there! It looked beautiful though. :-) We were located on the end of the property closer to the ocean and the swimming pools. There are two restaurants/buffets located on that end, so we had food pretty close by. If you want to relax by the pool or beach (which is what we were there for) that was the perfect place to be. But if you like to be where the action is (most of the restaurants, gift shop, lounges, activity square, theater and gym, etc....) it is a long walk there, so you ought to request to be closer to that end. They do have a cart shuttle that comes by every 15 minutes so that you can ride instead of walk, so if you are a patient person, or if you love to walk, the distance won't be a problem for you. We loved where we were on the pool/beach end of the resort! We were there to relax, rest, swim, read and enjoy the beach and the pools and each other. It was PERFECT. We had room 3222 on the third floor. Loved the location. Since this was Spring Break, I expected there to be tons of people at the pools and beach and for things to be pretty crowded, but the hotel was not crowded at all. (I think that's because the whole resort is so spaced out that it can't really feel crowded.) There was plenty of space/chairs around the several pools, and it was just lovely and relaxing! I also expected there to be more families/children/noise, but that wasn't the case. The pictures we'd seen posted of this place just didn't do it any justice! It was so much more beautiful than we ever expected!!! There's just tons of food and everything was really good. I would recommend that you make all of your reservations for your evening fancy restaurant meals (should you choose to go to a restaurant instead of the buffets at night) on the very first day you get there. Everything books up very fast, so do it as soon as you can. We were lucky and got a cancellation for one night for the seafood dinner. We were also able to make reservations to 'Miso' and the food there was totally outstanding! Wish it was near our house so we could eat there again! Make sure that if you are a guy, to bring a pair of long pants and a button up shirt with collar, plus close-toed shoes, or you will not be able to eat at the fancy reserved restaurants and will be limited to the buffets.(Just letting you know.) You can buy pants there, but it's cheaper to just pack your own! There's a hair dryer and iron in the room. They restock your room refridgerator with soft drinks, water and beer every single day for no extra charge. The buffets are wonderful too, but it's nice to be able to eat at one of the special places if you bring the right clothes! Everything is well cared for and shining clean. There are always staff members polishing something!! Also, if you plan on booking excursions, you can book it right there in the lobby for the same price that you can find it online. We booked there so that we could see what the weather would be like on the day we went. (Didn't want to go on a rainy day, or if we got sick or something. Was easy to make reservations once we got there.) We took the Tulum Akumal snorkeling trip for $109 per person (included drinks and a meal). The Tulum ruins and cliffs/beach area was really, really beautiful. My only complaint there was that I felt a bit let down when we were told by our guide that the 'ruins' were not the orignial ruins because they had been blown up by treasure seekers, and then rebuilt in the 1960's. I had thought that I was going to see the original. The second half of that trip was to Akumal where we snorkeled. The beach there was fantastically beautiful!!! Everyone on the trip really enjoyed the snorkeling, but my husband and I have snorkeled in Madang, PNG, and you can't even hold a candle to that, since it was such virgin reef there, and the reefs at Akumal looked like they were dieing from overuse. (If we hadn't been ruined by PNG, we probably would have thought it was great like everyone else on the trip though! ;-) Would we go again??? You bet we would!!! Oh, one thing to remember to take with you to Cancun is a beach bag, so you can bring your sunscreen, towels, and stuff with you to the beach or pool. We brought a small collapesable drink holder and we were really, really glad we had it to stash our camera, sunscreen and snacks in after we got there!"

"My Girlfriend and i as well as 6 others stayed from march 22nd TO 29th .Upon arrival it was stunning, marble floors beautiful lobby and very friendly staff.We had swim out room which i would reccomend .Its nice to have your private area for a day or 2 if your not feeling like being around a crowd. There is a lot of walking involved but is great excercise after a big meal or alot of drinks. Beach is very nice but stay to right side as left side of beach in the water is very rocky..And if you expect a good view take towel to beach or pool area early in morning to reserve a lounge chair by placing your towel on it..I mean like 6 or 7 am early.Staff is very friendly food was great.Lots of choice at buffet.Overall a great trip ...Resort is spotless. Disco gets old after a couple times .sports bar has great burgers and sandwiches for late night snacks.Short cab ride to playa or bus shuttle.Only negative thing i would have to say is they were doing some repairs on concrete around our room for 2 days which got annoying ,but they had to do it sometime as the never close....Great vacay hope review helps ..cheers"

"I'd suggest the hotel move their vendors to the back part of the beach where the sand volleyball court currently sits. You have to walk through all of them to even get to the water. It would be nice to sit in a lounge chair and look out to sea, instead of looking at cheap trinkets & massage beds. Other than that, we had a great experience. The maid only left us two towels, but after a phone call to guest services, we had more very quickly. And, they followed up with two phone calls to make sure we got what we needed. They were constantly cleaning and maintaining the grounds. The resort is HUGE, but the grounds are so beautiful that you don't mind all the walking due to the beautiful surroundings. "My husband & I just returned home this morning and we had a wonderful stay at this resort! Rooms: We stayed in the Platinum Suites and we loved them! The rooms were incredibly clean and contained all the amenities you would ever need. The mini bar was well stocked upon arrival and refilled every day with beer, pop and three large bottles of water. These suites are exactly as depicted in the website photos. The advantages of Platinum are many, including free internet, a private pool, special area on the beach complete with bar service, personal concierge to book a la cartes and provide beach towels, dvd's and any information you might need, a private bar which includes snacks and specialty coffees throughout the day and free wireless internet in the rooms. Food: The food was very good at this resort. I was especially impressed with the food safety protocols followed (cold foods kept cold and hot foods kept hot). All the a la cartes we visited were excellent and the buffets were very good as well. We especially enjoyed breakfasts, complete with made-to-order omelets. Fabulous! Beach: There were plenty of beach chairs and palapas available, but you do need to go down to the beach early to reserve your chairs. We were up early anyway, so this was never a problem. There is coral in the water, but not enough to impede walking into, and enjoying, the ocean. The water is clear enough that you can easily see where the coral is and walk around it. We enjoyed the beach every single day! Sand is beautiful, fine and white and the ocean is warm and wonderful shades of blue! Pools: There are many pools throughout this resort so there is plenty to do, whether you want quiet and relaxation or a party atmosphere! Bars & Drinks: There are many bars throughout the resort and the drinks are made to order. Wonderful bartenders and wait staff at all of the bars! The bar on the beach is very handy and right next to it is a small snack bar, with hot dogs, hamburgers, tortilla chips and other specialty items which vary from day to day. This snack bar is especially nice when you are too lazy to leave the beach to go for lunch! Note: The Grand Sunset Princess & Grand Riviera Princess are sister resorts which run parallel to each other. Both resorts are exactly the same and share the pools, beach, bars and restaurants. Paying a higher price at either resort does not make any sense. We would definitely return to this resort!!"

"My boyfriend and I decided to stay at the Resort for our last spring break. Although before going there were a FEW negative reviews, the good ones were all outstanding and we decided to pick this resort. Overall Experience: Excellent, 100%. We arrived at 3pm, which is the check in time. We stayed at the Platinum Level of Suites, and I would 100% recomend this to anyone who is trying to have a nice, romantic trip with their significant other. We were greated with champange, at our own check in line, with NO wait. We enjoyed all of the Platinum Suite ammenities; Platinum Lobby, Access to Internet, snack bar, bar open till 11pm in short walking distance from our room, private pool, ability to eat at ALL of the Al La Carte restaurants, (as well as buffets), reserved area on the beach, 24 hour room service, etc. These all made this worth the money. Quality: The food is good, but my boyfriend who has stayed at all-inclusive resorts in Cancun before has told me that the food could have been better. The room service is great, good options while not having an overwhelming menu. But there is something for everyone, especially at the buffets. The Al La Cartes are very good. We ate at Mamma Mia's (Italian), Las Olas (Seafood) and Miso (Habachi). I would say that all three were 100%. Just remember, for guys that LONG PANTS ARE A MUST. You will be denied your reservation if you are not. Staff: I had not found one rude staff member in the entire resort. Everyone said hello to you as you walked by, with a smile etc. The wait staff was very friendly. Although tips are 'included' in the all inclusive, we made sure to tip the bartenders, the waiters, anyone who brought room service to our room, and bell boys. This is included in the price we paid but we wanted to make sure we were 'taken care' of so we tipped $1 here and there. And at the end of the night, after the same bartender made us 10 or so drinks we made sure he got a $5 or so. He then remembered us, and the drinks were stronger. Little things to remember. Cleanliness: I would say 95%, ONLY BECAUSE this resort is largely outside. We had a balcony, and if you left your door open, BUGS WILL COME IN! I read reviews where people complained about bugs in the room, but what I think these people forget is that the staff does not make sure to put bugs in your room everyday. Bugs are going to get in the room if you leave the door open. So just shut your screen door and remember you were not raised in a barn, and you will be fine. The room was cleaned, and picked up everyday. All our shoes were lined up and the clothes were folded. Very impressed. We also had nightly turndown service, and this was nice. Very cute, and just one more thing to add to what we liked about the room. Beach: I was not satisfied with the beach, in terms of the land. The water was very warm, and we only went in March. A lot of seaweed but thats just nature. The sand is nice, just a kind of hill to the water. But the Platinum Section of the beach is very nice, with a 'buttler' to get you drinks. Again, Platinum level at this resort is very recomended. Suggestions: -Get up early(ish) because all the chairs by the pool WILL BE taken by 10am. Guaranteed, and then you will find yourself hunting for chairs by the pool. -Even if you leave your towels on the chairs, nobody will take them. We found that people just staked out chairs. -The later dinner reservations are nice, less crowded and in the loby there is always something going on. But at the 6pm dinner rush you will be shoving your way among large crowds. -Go to the Xplor, ziplining and adventure park!!! Really worth the money, good day for those who like thrills. Even young kids. Overall, we would 100% go here again. Very nice time."

"We had a wonderful vacation! Every important facet of our trip was just perfect. We stayed in the Laguna Suites (Room 9001) on the lower level, which was a great location. At check-in, we had our own line area at the desk so no waiting, and were provided with a glass of champagne. A porter quickly took us to our room. The suite was everything advertized - king bed, double Jacuzzi, outdoor Mayan shower, stocked mini bar, spa robes and slippers, incense and incense burner, and fully stocked toiletries. Our room was immaculately clean and fresh-smelling. We were on the first floor with a huge patio that faced the man-made lagoon and gardens by the Laguna pool. We enjoyed coffee on that patio every morning and drinks every evening before bed. Every day we had a different towel arrangement on our bed - from hearts, to swans, elephants, and flower petals. The room was cleaned before noon each day and was cleaned well. We used our Jacuzzi and shower daily and both were spotless. I never smelled the mustiness that some people on this review board complained of, and didn't see a mosquito let alone a bed bug. Our air conditioning was quiet and functioned properly. I wish I had a Mayan shower at home. It was fantastic! Since there was a lot of marble in the suite, including the shower, the floors could be slippery when wet, so take care and use the bath mats. Plentiful clean fluffy towels were provided daily. When people tell you that a room doesn't matter since most of the time is spent outdoors at resorts, they haven't stayed in a room like our suite. While we spent a lot of time on the resort grounds, we savored our suite and enjoyed the comfort and beauty of it immensely. If you book an adults-only Laguna Suite, you also have a pool for Laguna guests only, as well as a slew of other perks (free massage and facial, free internet, free 24/7 room service, etc) that make for a pampered existence. Our pool was great! No matter when we got to the pool, we always had covered, cushioned lounge chairs for sunbathing as well as a large outdoor bed with a thatched roof, stretch terry sheet, bolsters, and side curtains for sleeping or escaping from the sun. Our bartenders were friendly, efficient, and kept the drinks flowing. We had appetizers at the pool at all times, and these were replenished often and set in ice so everything was always fresh. The appetizers included small club sandwiches, chips, salsa, guacamole, assorted cheeses, and fresh fruit. The other Laguna couples were friendly and all felt that the suites were wonderful. At the pool, we had a concierge who booked all of our specialty restaurants for us so we never had to wait in lines or get turned away, plus we always were able to book the restaurant we wanted at the time we wanted. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants, especially Le Fleur and La Vaqueria, and the food, especially the steaks, was excellent. Service was quick but we never felt rushed. The desserts at these restaurants were heavenly! The buffet restaurants offered a large selection of breakfast foods, salads, breads, and pastries. I liked the made to order omelets and ate many of these at breakfast, and stuck to salads or made to order pasta for lunch. Some of the selections of vegetables, and the bacon, looked questionable, but there were plenty of other foods offered so only the most finicky eater would go hungry. Without exception, every worker that we crossed paths with were friendly, helpful, and professional. They took their jobs seriously and went out of their way to provide us with a first-class experience. The resort was extremely clean, and worker uniforms were spotless. The grounds were lush and very well landscaped. The beach was small and crowded, but clean. Again, there was a special section for Laguna and platinum suites so finding a chair and even thatched-covered table wasn't a problem. We liked the privacy of the pool area so we spent little time each day at the beach. There is a lot of walking at this resort, which wasn't a problem for us and made us feel less guilty for all of the eating and drinking that we were doing! It took us about 10 minutes to walk from our suite to the beach, and there are many places along the way to stop for a drink or swim. We did notice that at the other pools it seemed to be a problem to find chairs unless you got out early and it looked like some people would set things out to stake a claim rather than participate on a first come first served basis. Also, the shuttle to Playa del Carmen fills up fast, so you are better off taking a taxi ($20 each way) which gives you more control over time. The only negative that we had was that the internet service went down halfway through the week and they could never get the routers reset. This wasn't really a hardship, and for half the week we had free wireless service in our room and by the pool. We thanked the lobby concierge for providing such a wonderful experience. We complimented the staff on how well we were treated. The concierge replied that it was people like us %u2013 people who looked forward to having a great experience and who expressed appreciation %u2013 who made the resort employees provide high quality service. I would highly recommend this resort, and would also recommend upgrading to the Laguna Suites. It was like a second honeymoon for us."

"this was our 3rd time at this resort. All in all it is a great resort. We were disappointed in the beach this time. It wasn't very clean and very crowded with annoying vendors. It was between seasons and very windy so that could have been part of the problem with the beach itself. It was very difficult to get beach chairs or pool chairs. We had to get up at 6am to reserve them. The food was either horrible or great. The buffets were not as good as the other two times and were mediocre before. The mexican restaurant was not very good but.. the La Vaqueria (grill) was awesome with huge tbones. The fondue restaurant was great also and the Miso-hibachi was very good. great service. Not sure we will return because we have been there 3 times already. It is a huge resort so you get plenty of walking in. "We travelled with 2 seventeen year olds. This is not a resort for families. There is almost nothing to do for teens. Ours requested, and got, a meeting with the head of the activities department; however, although they may have given good hints for future use, they themselves were disappointed. Since they wore bracelets which we presumed identified them as < 18, they saw no reason why they couldn't enter the disco for a limited time, given that no area was provided for their age group to dance. As they pointed out, they were surrounded all day by alcohol and didn't imbibe so to use this as an excuse seemed lame. On a positive note, the buffet food was excellent and quite varied, the rooms spacious (junior deluxe) and clean. I agree with the comments about the restaurants. We were able to get to 5 in our 7 night stay thanks to the swiftness of our teens to get on line early! but I agree that the restaurants were not full so this issue of being excluded is puzzling. The housekeepers and groundskeepers, security were terrific. The outing to the town which necessitated so many people to pay excess charges to return should really be re-examined. It is ridiculous."

The beach is beautiful.. yes it is a little rocky but you can find sandy spots ( its the ocean )..Every once in a while you do smell sewerage.( its Mexico) We thought the food on the beach was great basic stuff but great. The buffet had much to choose from . We ate breakfeast there every morning it was delicious. The Hotel had made reservations for 2 different resaurants before we arrived which was nice. One at the seafood and one at the La Fleur.... Being from New England we didnt think we would like the Seafood one ...We went by Miso the Japanesse Rest. and asked if they had any availability we had to wait a few min to see who did not come for their reservation and we were seated.. It was excellent . We also ate at the Grill and Mamma Mias also excellent. The later the reservation you take better chance to get what you want or you can wing it later after 815pm and see if you can get in. alot of people may be to tired from the sun and dont show up. We were unaware you had to book shuttle to downtown a day in advance .. So we took a cab no problem . Down town is great and you should go a walk around 5th ave..All in all It was a great vacation stayed 5 nights and would do it again. Also the resort is huge. From the front lobby (where the resaurants are) from the beach is about a 10 min walk. but for all we ate and drank it was a good thing.. they do have a tram car that goes back and forth about every 15 min....We loved it here. Our Concierge was great . Also we did take an excursion. We went on the Fat Cat. Snorkling and sun and fun ..We Recommend them"

The buffet is very nice, but some of the 'a la carte' restaurants like La Fleur do not match the quality you are expecting. They even went to Xcaret to get back a swimwear that I forgot there !! The Platinium place is just great, but make sure, if you have the access to the pool, that you have it on the sunny side of the building, otherwise you will experience cold feeling in water. One last thing, its not about the resort but I was really disappointed by the flights from Europe to Cancun via Philadelphia. We had tiny places. "In review... Glad that we got the Best Day service to and from the airport. We got to the place before 3 pm and they would not check us in early nor allow us to sign up for restaurants until 3 pm which was frustrating. We ate at the main buffett which was ok. When we finally were able to try to reserve places to eat, they were mostly full. Like above comments, when we were in the restaurants, they were barely full. The seafood restaurant had bland food, the mexican restaurant was pretty good, and the fondue place was the best of the lot. The resort is looong, so be prepared to walk good distances. The grounds were kept very nice, the pools were clean, and the sidewalks were washed nightly. The drinks were basic. The night entertainment was good. The beach area was pretty packed, but we found that it was better when you walked further down to the adults only section. We brought our own ping pongs balls for drinking games as there was not much entertainment. Can't tell you how many people said they wished they had brought a ping pong ball for entertainment around the swim-up bars. They did offer some basic things around the resort, but it didn't appeal much. The staff was overall friendly, although not very knowledgeable at times (some of it is just a language barrier I'm sure). The room was very nice, no complaints with room service items. What we learned, bring $1 dollar bills for tips (because they don't like to break your bigger bills) and cold/hot drink containers as everything gets warm fast."

"I have been to Mexico 5 times.This was the most filthy beach I have ever seen,2feet of weeds on beach water strewn with plastic bottles hats shoes tin cans,even a dead bird that had been in the water for a couple days.I complained immediateltly to Concier and wrote a report.Beach was cleaned the next morning but within a couple days was the same filthy beach.We were in a Junior Deluxe room which had a few black spots on the walls when we checked in,the spots just got bigger and bigger and then spots on ceiling and curtains. Black Mould,went to Concier and complained person came and washed spots with bleach.good for about 3 days then black mould returned not healthy.The next major concern was the quality of food being served.Very cheap buffets,no salads,bacon twice in 2 weeks.fried bologna they called ham,waffles and pancakes cooked hours ahead and food cold,the fruit was of poor quality not ripe or overripe little choices,a few times there was fried steak very tough and poor quality,lots of stews(slop) We also had no ice machines on any floor of our hotel they had been removed but the staff kept saying there were.The transportation to the beach which is along way from the hotel did not go all around the resort as the brochure shows so a lot of walking involved.Not senior friendly,lots of drops stairs cobblestone etc. Only one bathroom at one end of beachso long walk in sand if on the other end.there is no room service for all inclusive plan.The maid service was unreliable one day to the next did not matter how much we tipped she would forget towels or paper did not clean the floors for 3 days until we complained.Two areas on beach excluded from all inclusive unless Platinum Upgrade or Join club and pay 11 dollars per day drinks and food pay.The food quality was so bad on theme nights hourderves were sliced weaners with an olive on top another night weaners wrapped in pastry. I have never experienced such poor quality food an a supposed 4-5 star hotel I would not reccomend this 2 star hotel except to people I have a disliking for."

"Our trip was wonderful!! Do not listen to the other people. The only thing I have to say is that at first our room wasn't ready when we got there but they were so sorry and got us in another one right away which ended up better because it was so close to the beach and close to the shuttle that took us to the main area when we needed to go there. Our experience with the staff was super. They were all so nice and friendly. We loved the buffets and thought there was a large variety. We went to the a la cart restaurants in the evening. You DO need to book it before but twice we went and asked if we could change our reservations and at first she said no but knew we were disappointed and both time she gave us an override ticket. My husband loved the steakhouse called La Vaqueria and I loved the Sushi bar Miso. It was amazing!!! The spring rolls were mouth watering! La Fondue was just okay. The room was clean and nice and the beach was great too. We had no problems getting a chair and the buffet on the beach was great too. Nothing like eating hamburgers and nachos in you bikini:o) At the pool bar is where we had our favorite Mojito drink, yum! We liked the entertainment it was fun. We had no problems getting a snorkeling excursion we wanted to do the morning and be back by lunch and it was great. We liked staying on the resort and didn't have time to go into town but wished we had done that and golfed. Overall we had a quick few days that were very relaxing. While were were there it didn't rain at all the weather was nice and hot. We arrived at the perfect time because it had been cloudy and rainy 3 days prior. Lucky us!! We also had a wake up call and it was on time... Also, we talked to friends that were just down the road from us at a different resort and ours seemed to be even better than theirs. They said their beach was full of seaweed and didn't go in the water. They had a great beach and we loved to cool off in the water. We took long walks up the beach looking for little seashells. This resort was great for all types or people whether you are single, married, or take the family it's a great stay for anyone. Great stay and would definitely go back!"

"I have to start by saying that the place was very beautiful. The landscaping and designs were really something. The beach was fantastic. Lots of space... be prepared for lots of walking. Our room was quite nice. It was humid everywhere, but that's to be expected in the area. Staff was beyond friendly. Our 'major' complaint was the food. The meats were awful, with the exception of the steak at the steakhouse where we had reservations one night. We ended up at the buffets after a couple of the other places. And the buffets were plentiful, but with ok food. I do have a complaint with our flight back though. the stewardesses distributed forms on the way to Mexico, but never mentioned what they were for and that we would need them in order to fly back. We had to do some rushing back and forth in order to get our boarding passes. Also, we were delayed at the re-entry point in Dallas/Fortworth due to a long line. We almost missed our connecting flight. It would be nice if they had an express line for people with connecting flights. "We just returned from a week stay at this resort. 1st day not even 4 hours at the resort my daughter cut her foot in the pool, by a piece of metal that was not in the right place, it took 20 minutes for one of the life guards to come. The nurse on the resort looked at the cut and it was recommended that we go to the hospital, as she needed stitches, ended up getting 4 stitches and was not able to swim for 3 days. The areas around the pool are very slippery. The food was not the greatest, the best meal we had was at the Chill Out which is not included in the all inclusive, but it was worth every penny, delicious meal and very reasonable. The restaurants that we had reservations for, the food was not the greatest, and the service was very slow. Pools and grounds on the resort are beautiful, and very clean. The beach I was impressed with, the water was very dirty as there was garabge along the shore. The staff were very friendly. We had purchased private transportation to and from Cancun Airport, our pick up from the resort to Cancun was @ 0930, and the van was not allowed through the gate to pick us up, but they were allowed to bring us in a week prior. In the end after 20 minutes of arguing, they let the van in. I think that they should have more transportation to Playa Del Carmen, as you have to sign up 24 hours in advance, and there are only 2 shuttles that go out daily, so they tend to fill up quickly. We took a taxi. Overall our vacation was not the greatest, the weather was great."

"My husband, youngest daughter, eldest daughter, son-in-law, and grandson (3), and I stayed at this resort this past week (Feb 27 - Mar 5) and were very disappointed with this property overall. My husband and I have experienced many other resorts within the Mayan and would say this was our greatest disappointment. Although we did not up-grade to the Platinum level, I find it very disappointing to have a room with no alarm clock, or clock of any kind); iron (but there was an ironing board); hard as rock pillows (one per person); and Keenex!!! I find it difficult to swallow that these items cannot be part of the general pkg. for the price we paid per person. The food in the buffet was poor with the exception of a couple of days, and the other restaurants which you had to book in advance, but not too far in advance, else you had to remember which day you needed to come back to do so, were not much better either. It was also worth noting that when you did sit down at any of these restaurants at your reserved time, that they were hardly full, which begged the question %u2013 why did they show as booked? I know when I am on vacation, I would like to not have to worry about making sure I stick to a schedule, or to be there at a certain time in order to have a good meal. The alcohol was low grade as well. Almost every drink had a funny after taste, especially their vodka. I will say the grounds were beautiful and well maintained with the exception of the children's pools which seemed to go under their radar. Then, when you tried to have someone clean them, there was no one to respond. I will aslo say on a positive note that the rooms were spacious (Junior Deluxe Suite), but the comforters on the beds would slide off you ALL through the night due to the slippery (cheap) material they are made from and combined with the hard as rock pillow, made for a very unrestful sleep. Then there is the shuttle to Playa del Carmen they - brutal as well. They had two shuttle times only and you had to book a day in advance and hope you make it on - rediculous. But you could take a cab/shuttle (their own fleet) at any other time but it will cost you $20 US there and $20 back - money grab or what? Every other resort I've been to had more shuttles and would try to get you on the next if you didn't make the first -the way it should be! I will not go back to this resort when there are so many others that offer better quality accommodations, food, and service. If you do decide to check it out, don't go any less than Platinum, but I would really question what you really get at this level."

"Let me start by saying this was not our first or last trip to Mexico, but the only certain thing is that it is our last vacation to this hotel. As other people have said the wine is awful,especially the white. Whatever you do, don't have the beef unless you bring your own sharp knife,because you'll need it. The foods were often time mis-marked at the buffet or not at all. If you order any drink with vodka in it be sure to order by brand or they use a vodka served from the same dispenser as the sodas and it tastes funny. The OJ used at the bars is an orangeade which also makes poor drinks. We had a platinum upgrade so were able to get ala carte service for breakfast but went and served ourselves a few times because we got tired of waiting for service. I thought the rooms were very nice and the grounds were kept in excellent condition. I can only figure that the people who think the food and bars are great have had little to no experience at resorts of this kind. We did find that the staff was pleasant."

"We just returned from a weeks holiday at this resort. I had booked the swim up on the Sunset side of this resort, but at check-in they upgraded us to the Platinum Riviera side. We were closer to the beach and were on the third floor where we could see a small portion of the water. Beautiful resort. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Having the Platinum, you have a few perks, there is a private pool area with teak chairs with thick cushions and cabana's beds where you could lay. You are served drinks in this area and they provide a light breakfast and lunch inside. It is close to the buffet for breakfasts and luncheons. You have room service. If you are in a platinum room you have free wi fi included, but we were not able to get on. There is a concierge service that have computers for people to use. Very Very clean at this resort. We went to a few of the La Cart restaurants very enjoyable. The buffets have a large selection of food. Yes, you have those that complain, but I do not see how anyone could complain about this resort. The beach is not the best, but it is still beautiful. There are rocks in the water, just be careful when you are going into the water. There are clear areas. There was a lot of seaweed which was a little shocking, but that did not stop us or anyone else from going into the water. There are a lot of chairs all over the resort, you will not have any problems finding somewhere to sit. In the evenings there is entertainment up in the middle open section at the front of the hotel. Very enjoyable. We thought this was a beautiful resort and would return. Remember, you can always find things to complain about Just relax and enjoy."

"So you would like my comments huh? Okay here goesThe grounds, the pools, and the beach are beautiful. Most of the staff are pleasant and helpful. Not all but most. Some of the staff stood out the bartender is absolutely the best. He is entertaining. The bartender at the Sports bars was equally great and provided us with great entertainment. Some of the the receptionist desk are less that receiving and some were just plain rude. Mini-Bar (water, soft drinks, beer, stocked daily ) . Then we were told we would be charged. What happened to ALL INCLUSIVE there? For all those visitors who are not from Mexico which I am going out on a limb here and assuming are most of the visitors you will payl trying to get a phone call thru. My daughter tried to call and got a message that she would be charged $14.00 for each minute. Yet in the room there is a toll free number posted (the same number I gave to my daughter when I was there). Why bother to have a phone in the room that even connects to anywhere outside the resort? To me, that is not just almost false advertising but out and out a BIG FAT LIE!! .When a reservation is made you are asked if you want one king size bed or two queen beds. But it really does not matter because we had 2 rooms between the four of us and we both received one king size bed when we had both requested 2 queen size beds. They had tried for 2 days before to get it corrected but were just told we are working on it. The 24 hour buffet was consistently good. They had a great variety of fresh fruit and breads, rolls, cookies, croissants, and pastries. The main dishes were not all that great but they were okay. The access to the restaurants is NOT access at all. You have to make a reservation for any of the restaurants. But when try to make a reservation; most of them are already filled up. Yet when you walk by the restaurants they were never even halfway full. Once again, stating that the all inclusive packages have access to these restaurants is a BIG FAT LIE. Our stay was 6 days and we were only able to get a reservation at one restaurant. That is not what you call ALL INCLUSIVE. Shuttle: again this is a reservation thing which I get but you only take reservations at 0800 in the morning for the next day. Really???? There are much better ways you could be accomplishing the same thing without irritating guests. Also shuttle indicates that there is more than a single pick up time not so. The only designated pick up time is 5:00 PM. However, for just an additional $4.00 per person, your resort does offer pick up service at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Really?????? You could not just include those additional times? The fully equipped fitness center could use more than just 4 treadmills. Never was I able to get to use one of those however you have an over abundance of elliptical and bikes. The transport around the resort.. we were told it runs every 10-15 minutes. Not true. My friend had surgery on her foot so walking was just not that much fun for her. I have to say that most of the time we ended up walking to the reception area because the shuttle was ????? I never did figure that out. The shuttle driver at night was much better and reliable than the shuttle driver during the day. The Best Day shuttle and arrangements for outside excursions were excellent."

"DO NOT PAY EXtra for this hotel. This is NOT a hotel for families!It is for adults only. They have no activities music fun for kids or teens . The gym has a few treadmills if you call that a gym. There are about 2000 people staying at this hotel. The worst service - there are NO butlers or special perks for platinum which we paid for. There is no premium liquor just watered down cheap liquor. Concierge is useless and no house phones or help if needed from anyone. There is no nurse or medical staff whatsoever if needed in an emergency. The staff stares at you blankly and says it costs extra and takes time to get a paramedic! You cant get reservations for dinner and then the resturant has half the tables empty. We had one waiter for 16 people. He was also in charge of the rest of the tables! There was wifi service for about 20% of the time so it is not true that they have internet service. Several of us of our group of 16 needed to do some business while traveling. If we didnt come with such a large group of our own it would have been the worst travel experience for a family expecting other kids/teens. Upon arrival there s no explaining of anything they put your bracelets on and give you directions t your room- youre on your own!"

"This resort is HUGE! Way too much walking for me. We stayed in the Platinum section on the Sunset side which is close to the beach and furthest from the restaurants. There was a shuttle to bring you back and forth which ran every 15 minutes or so (if it wasn't broken down). We upgraded to platinum specifically for the reserved beach area and the premium liquor. We didn't want the hassle of getting up early for chairs but it didn't seem to matter. You couldn't see the water because you are behind either vendors or bushes. There is no staff on the beach willing to find you seats or make them available. If you wanted chairs you would have to pull them off the pile yourself. As for the premium liquor, you can only get that in the platinum lobby or the main lobby regardless of what color bracelet you have. If you ask for Absolute Vodka, which is as premium as it gets, in the main lobby you have to sign for it. Certainly not worth the upgrade. I found the beaches to be a mess, chairs scattered all around with garbage and cigarette butts everywhere. We stayed at the pool everyday instead and occasionally went for a walk on the beach. The rooms were OK but smelled very musty. The beds and pillows are very hard and uncomfortable. There are no dressers so plan on living out of your suitcase. The food is mediocre at best. We never got an itinerary of what would be happening during the week. We basically wandered around and had to figure it all out on our own. We had a 13 and 10 year old with us who had nothing to do at night except play pool in the sports bar. Other than that they really didn't have anything for them to do. I found a handful of staff to be friendly. The grounds were well maintained but that's about it. I expect good service, friendly staff, decent food and beautiful beaches and I did not find that here. I can honestly say I would not return to this resort."

Resort is huge and quite difficult to get around in a timely manner. Pools and rooms were good but the food was horrible. They couldn't even do scrambled eggs well. "A poor experience. If you are a wine drinker, don't go, the wine quality is terrible...I expected 5 star. The room smelled and was so humid my clothes were still wet when I got home. The service was intermittently nice, and the food was not great. I ate little or no meat, because it was so badly cooked, and really I have stayed at 4 stars with better food. The beach was nice, and I appreciated the vendors weren't pushy. The show as awful, lip synching. They say there is a shuttle to town, but you have to book it the day before and even then you have only 2 departures and must return by 5 pm. Beautiful hotel. The worst customer service I've ever had at a hotel. I'm NOT exaggerating.
1- woke me up 8am first morning for no good reason. wanted to confirm my flight 4 days later. 8 am! They already had this info in an email.
2- I requested a wake up for 6:20 am to go to Tulum, because the pick up was 7:15am. Was called twice at 5:20am. twice an hour early. They called my friend's room at 5:20 am twice, too. When making the request at the front desk I read the note to make sure she wrote the time down correctly. She did.
3- tried to discuss this huge error with Porfirio (sp?) the desk supervisor. He didn't care. Didn't apologize. Didn't try to make it right at all. I could see him check out what color wristbands we were wearing to see if we were platinum. Whatever we paid, he should have at least pretended to care.
4- Had a decent massage, but the room was cold. I told the masseuse before I even got undressed. She didn't care or try to make it better for me. Not even a blanket. I used to be a masseuse and know how important comfort is to enjoying the massage. Being freezing for 80 minutes makes it impossible to relax. She also ended my massage 4 minutes early. I fell on the bathroom floor after because I was really wet and slippery and hurt my knee.
5- Got food poisoning at one of the restaurants my last night. Was throwing up 45 minutes after dinner. Still sick almost 48 hours later. I called the front desk to let them know. And begged for a late check out. My pickup was at 3:15pm and check out is noon. They didn't care that I got sick. No apology whatsoever. None. Then said I had to pay $32 extra to check out at 2:30. I begged to get a check out at 3pm, because I was throwing up every half hour. They refused. Since I could barely walk, after checking out and having to wait 45 minutes for the van I laid down on a couch. Was told very rudely that I couldn't do that. Even though I had seen at least a few very drunk people doing the same because they were wasted. Once I even saw a young (20ish) making out on a couch in the lobby on top of each other. I explained that I was extremely sick and not drunk. They didn't care at all.
6-The only decent customer service I had was someone- Juan- who was training. He at least smiled at us.
7- Restaurants that we made reservations for had horrible food and mediocre service. Miso- the noodle salad was so sweet I only had a couple bites, because I was starving. I told the waiter I didn't eat eggs. He suggested the pad thai. It had tofu fried with egg. Hacienda- made us wait over 20 minutes to be seated even though they said 5 minutes and the restaurant only had a few tables full.
8- Buffet didn't mark anything clearly that was vegetarian. I asked several chefs if something was veggie or not. Half the time I was ignored.
9- I don't know, if I'm remembering everything that went wrong, but as you can see, this hotel sucks. If I was an alcoholic 22 year old, it would be great. You should advertise this. I will be posting on your site."

"Overall nice trip, except a few bad experiences with desk & concierge staff:

Wrong information from concierge about when to book bus tickets to get into town, which almost made us miss the trip (and no apology or recognition of error or miscommunication).

Also, a wake up call from the front desk requested at 6:30 am for a trip to Tulum came at 5:30 am. Again, the front desk did not apologize and made no effort in accepting a late check-out request in compensation for the error.

On a different note, though the hotel is very well conceived, their omnipresent marble floors turn into a slippery mess as soon as there is water on the grounds (and it rains regularly, if only for a few minutes). My friend slipped and hurt her knee at the spa. I almost fell a few times (and we're 40 and in good shape...:-). Just seems overall dangerous, especially for older people. They do put out yellow warning cones constantly, and have staff mop frenetically, but it's not really doing the job."

"We stayed 5 nights here and I had read several reviews prior to visiting, so I'll touch on all of those other reviews. First, the resort is beautiful, the grounds are amazing, and the staff was very friendly. The first night we arrived, we were placed in a room in the 8000 building, and I swear, it felt like we might as well have been in Korea, we were so far removed from everything. Also, they put us in a smoking room, and it reeked. In the defense of the hotel, I didn't request a non-smoking room, because I mistakenly thought that no one even had smoking rooms anymore! They moved us that night into the only other room available, which was closer to the pools and action, but there were 2 twin beds. We stuck it out for the week. Too exhausting to move again. The beds were hard as rocks. Cheap mattresses. Also, the resort is all about saving money, so the only way your lights, ceiling fan, and air conditioner would work is if you left your door key in the slot provided on the wall as you came in the door. One day we left our extra door key in the slot while we were at the beach, so that when we came back, our room would be cool. Housekeeping took our key. We called the front desk, and were told that in order to save energy/cut costs, the key was removed so that the lights, fan, and air conditioner were not running. I was angry about this. I am paying money to stay in this resort, and my comfort level is more important than the resort's efforts to save money. So, after that, we just placed a grocery store card in the slot to be sure that our fan and air ran while we were away. We had the all-inclusive package, but the alcohol was watered down; and they didn't even offer premium choices. You had to basically tip every single employee to get anything better or extra, and I'm not accustomed to kissing butt for my food and beverage. I already paid for all-inclusive, so why am I having to go overboard to get just basic needs met? The bad thing is that the employees daily wage is only about $6.00 for THE DAY, so they depend on tips from customers. Why put the pressure on the customers? Just pay these poor people so they can feed their families. The food at the buffets was marginal, at best. You could make reservations for the 4-5 restaurants, but those were a joke also. The food was terrible, the service at the restaurants was extremely slow, and I couldn't order a glass of wine off the menu, unless I bought the entire bottle. What is that about? Again, the resorts either water down all their alcohol, or use the cheapest thing they can get their hands on. After a while, it was almost comical. We took a cab to Playa for 3 different days, and that was worth it. The cab ride was about $20.00, and the trick is NOT to tip the cab drivers, because they are making a lot off of American dollars. The cab drivers will not even pick up their own people (employees of the resort), because they want the tip from the Americans/Canadians. So again, DO NOT tip. Playa del Carmen was beautiful! Next time we go to Cancun, we will stay in one of the hotels right in Playa, because the beach is so much more beautiful in Playa. The resort is about 15 minutes from Playa. Well worth the taxi ride in. This resort is way too big for comfort. And I agree with the other reviews, that there is just not enough staff to really take care of the customers. Also, the Sunset connects to the Grand Riveria resort. They are connected. Part of the resort has been completely remodeled. Overall, the staff were friendly, the sun was great, but it was not money well spent, and I would definitely not stay here again. It's great if you're in the 18-30 range, but not for those of us who would like a upscale place to stay. I give it a 3 star rating, and that's being over-generous."

"This trip was for a friend's wedding/ great time! The staff was on the spot, the entire place was clean and being cleaned all day long. The customer service was top notch! My only let down was the food in the high end restaurants wasn't any better then the food at a buffet. A few friends did not get the upgrade I don't think they missed anything. The chefs in the buffets do a great job! I just would have thought the food at Olas and the other one would have been off the charts but it was fine didn't blow me away with the ingredients they had to work with.
Wish they had more than rojo or blanco (red or white) vino at the restaurants, you had to buy your own nice bottle of wine to make up for the basic meal.
They lay out of the grounds was nice and clean, the beach staff was a lot of fun. This resort was really close to down town Playa Del Carmen and it was a $20.00 trip with 4 or one person in cab.

"First of all, Bookit.com was the way to go! I have traveled all over the world, at a young 25 years of age and just first came across bookit.com. The offers they have are ALWAYS the best prices, value and have many options to include which I really appreciated. The 'Grand Sunset Princess'was an absolutely beautiful all inclusive resort. Impeciably maintained, wonderfully locally, great amenities, contemporary rooms, elegant restaurants, beautiful views, very courteous staff which they all speak many languages. We had an suite for our room and it was worth it, because they you could go to the '3' extra restaurants which were lovely as well. Typically, I am not the 'easily' impressed type, but I was overall 100% satisfied with my pick. I would recommend staying here and also taking advantage of the 'roundtrip transportation' from hotel to airport as it made the transition beautifully. We plan to return again... soon! Enjoy :)"

"Grand Sunset Princess was grand! Great place. Only bad point was that the resort did not want to honor the upgrade offered through Bookit.com. Talking to the manager cleared it up instantly, but be prepared to push for it. Also, they tried to only upgrade the room saying the meal plan upgrade is separate.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this resort. Plenty to do there. Plenty of Food and Drink. Great accommodations. Just don't be a push over!"

"We were a little weary about booking this vacation after reading some of the reviews but I'm so glad we went ahead and did it. The resort is beautiful!! Our room was perfect and always cleaned and restocked. We never had any problems with the staff. They were all very nice. The food was wonderful. Miso was our favorite place! The beach is rocky but you can find places that dont have rocks. The resort is huge and has soo much to do! I recommend going to Selvetica and booking the Razr excursion! Would definetly go back. Awesome resort for how much we paid!"

"Whether you are young or old, outgoing or laid-back, this place is perfect. I have stayed at other resorts in Cancun and also on the Mayan Riviera but this is now my favorite. There was tons of people but so many amenities that there were no lines for anything. If you want up beat music and action then there are pools and areas on the beach for that. If you want peace and quiet, and near lonliness, then there are other pools and areas on the beach for that. If I could change anything it would be the fact that the beach is so rocky it is kinda hard to swim in the ocean. It is easy to walk along the waters edge barefoot but I would suggest some type of water shoe (not flip-flops) if you want to walk out into the water."

"From start to finish it was heaven! Bookit went the extra mile to set us up with the best deal. The Grand Princess is spectacular! The staff was so friendly. The room was great with balconey view of one of the many pools. Two of the restaurants were not so good...but the rest was great. Particularly loved La Fleur. We did great day trips and saw so many wonderful sights and did so many fun things! The beach is beautiful.Saw lots of new wildlife. What a treat. My husband LOVED his birthday present. The only real bad part was coming home! Cant wait to return!!!!!!!"

"I'd read reviews about the quality of the food but I really didnt anticipate HOW bad it really was. By the time we checked in all except chinese and mexican were booked for the next two days. I thought at first that they were open because they were the worst, which was sadly not the case. We went to the italian place and ordered bruchetta as an appetizer. It said tomato and basil so I wasn't expecting much but what I got was heavily oversalted tomato and PARSLEY on a giant stale piece of italian bread. How do you screw up bruchetta? The minestrone soup was full of hard, undercooked beans and...spaghetti noodles? It was bland and unedible as well. The sushi place serves fish....it isn't sushi tho. All the fish tasted like it had been steamed or partially cooked somehow...I would have taken seared or cooked or anything other than that. Basically I don't think a single person at this resort knows how to cook. They really should have a real chef show up to train/help out a few times a year. Even if their only previous experience was at Applebee's. Its that bad. Most of the things I tried are something I would throw out as a complete failure if I cooked it at home. But the drinks were good, the resort was beautiful, and the service and staff was great. If food is lower on your list, I'd highly recommend the place. We had a great time, but I felt like I was starving for real food by the time I got home. Even the airport food tasted gourmet by comparison."

"We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Sunset Princess Resort. Food was generally very good. Staff was great - thanks for all the fun Rolando! Disco was WAY too loud - we couldn't bring ourselves to stay there, although our 19 & 21 year daughters really wanted to hang out. The friends we travelled with upgraded to platinum, and I actually think it was worth the extra cost. They had a beautiful view of the ocean and even though they were located the farthest distance from all the entertainment, there was a nice buffet and restaurant right next door. We did not find the place too large - it just gave more opportunities for additional things to do."
