Shana from Columbia, SC had this to say:
"It was amazing. The grounds were absolutely beautiful with so much to do. The rooms were very nice and clean. They offered a wide variety of food that was, although very different than what I am accustomed, good. The drinks were delicious and plentiful! I would highly recommend it. I plan to return within the next year!! "

Jim from Paintsville, KY had this to say:
"After reading so many reviews on the Sunset Princess after booking it, I was a little apprehensive upon my arrival but my apprehension soon gave way to sheer joy. I simply cannot say enough about my trip to Playa, and the staff of the Sunset made it all the better. The only negatives I could find about the Sunset were the pillows weren`t fluffy enough for my liking on the beds, and the leaking water under the shower which I was prepared for by laying towels down to absorb it. We upgraded to the Platinum suite which I would highly recommend, it`s worth the money. Tips aren`t necessary but are graciously accepted and will get you extra special service which came in handy for us a few times. The entire place was exceptionally clean, staff was all friendly and helpful. They were efficient. Room service (we used it a LOT) was very good. Buffets were all very good, much better than the average buffet and the a la carte restaurants were exceptional. We have traveled extensively and found this vacation to be the best vacation we have ever had. We have never gone back to the same destination twice, but we liked this place so much, we're already planning a return visit. We're telling all our friends and encouraging them to go as well. Two thumbs up!"

SALCIDO FAMILY from WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA had this to say:
"This was a great resort very, very clean. The staff was great they remembered our names the whole week we were there and made us feel at home. Book your tours at the hotel, bad experience booking online. Men if you plan on going to a fancy dinner or wedding you must wear pants in restraunts also must make reservations with the concierge. Eating at buffet was good. Wear shorts and tank top was fine. Great shows and kid clubs, we will definitely be back with friends and family. Thanks for a memorable vacation."

Diana from Oklahoma City, OK had this to say:
"I stayed at the GSP July 22-29, 2009. This resort is absolutely amazing! Yes, it`s very big and you should be prepared to walk to get places, but the landscaping makes the walk worthwhile. There`s also a `shuttle` that operates every 10-15 minutes roundtrip from one end of the resort to the other. The entire resort is well-maintained, most of the staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious, well-prepared, and its presentation is impeccable. MEN: remember to bring long pants to wear at dinner in the restaurants! Also, make reservations for the restaurants before 3pm, as their system doesn`t allow them to make reservations after that time. One other thing: when you enter the buffet areas, there is no signage indicating such, but you should wait to be seated. There is a great deal of variety when it comes to pool options (from a party-type pool with music playing to 1.5 ft. kiddie pools to quiet pools where you can just lounge and read, nap, whatever you desire) and the beach is really well maintained. Note: It would be a good idea to bring water shoes, as there are some rocks both upon entry to the ocean and about 20-30 feet into the water. If you can afford the expense, I strongly recommend upgrading to the Platinum Suite, as the amenities received during your stay are well worth the cost! There were ants, or some type of similar insect, in my room and the A/C didn`t work well (I reported that 4 times, with no improvement, but I didn`t request a room change) but my overall experience was exceptional. This was the most relaxing vacation I`ve ever experienced. I would recommend this resort to friends and family alike, and I hope to return in the near future."

Anita from woodbridge , VA had this to say:
"I just returned from a girls` trip to the Grand Sunset Princess. The resort is very large and landscaped beautifully. Because of the size of the resort, be prepared to do lots of walking. This may be an issue if you have small children. There was a `tram` that ran through the resort to take you places, however, the wait tended to be long, so we ended up walking. There are many pools to choose from and no matter where your room is - there is a pool nearby. There were plenty of lounge chairs and we did not feel the need to wake up at the crack of dawn to put our towels down on chairs to `reserve` them. The beach was ok. Take a pair of water shoes because there were rocks in the water and you could get cut. The rooms were not too bad. We chose to upgrade to the junior suite deluxe so we could be closer to the beach area. The room had a nice huge tub with jets. We did have to move to another room because our a/c was not working - that is something that can happen anywhere. Also, there is no room service unless you are in the Platinum rooms. There were some mornings that I would have rather ordered coffee and breakfast in the room instead of getting dressed and going to one of the restaurants. The food was not too bad. My suggestion would be to make sure that you make your dinner reservations on your first night there for your entire trip. The only problem I had with this resort was that after dinner I wanted to have a cup of coffee with my dessert and they do not offer coffee in any of the restaurants in the evenings. My friends went to the spa and loved their treatments. We all went to the gym and it was well equipped. Overall, it is a fun place to rest, relax, and read. We found that there were many families and I noticed that there was a kids' club were children seemed to be having fun. If you are considering this resort, go ahead and make your reservations and enjoy."

A Recent Traveler from New Orleans, LA had this to say:
"I would not go as a couple during the summer months, because kids are allowed in the fine dining rooms. It ruined our late night dinner dates. It was the parents, not the hotel. Children were allowed to yell and misbehave. The nightly shows are very amateur, like watching a high school talent show."

Rose from Windsor, Ontario had this to say:
"We just returned from a one week stay at the Grand Sunset. It was absolutely beautiful and we would go back in a heartbeat. The grounds are just spectacular and well kept. There is always someone working at tidying something up. The room was wonderful with a view of the pool. We didn't like the view of the first room and were moved within five minutes. The beach is beautiful with lots of fun activities to do, such as: archery, volleyball, soccer etc. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The evening shows were entertaining. The entertainment staff works very hard at pleasing everyone. The food was very good. There is lots of seafood for those who like fish and the staff was very attentive. Playa del Carmen is just a few minutes away, which makes this resort very appealing. Tulum was a nice ride and the airport was exactly 30 minutes away. We absolutely loved our week here and would highly recommend it. Yes, there is lots of walking, but with all the food you can eat, it's a welcome exercise."

"We just came back from Riviera Maya .We spent a week in the resort. The resort is architecturally beautiful. They maintained the resort very well. The rooms were specious and very clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of food, it was tasty, and available 24 hours. We had a huge selection of food, desserts, salads, and drinks to choose from. They had different programs and shows to entertain the guests every night. It was really worth it. I am planning to go back there next year. Thanks, Bookit.com."

sheila from washington , DC had this to say:
"We just returned on June 26, 2009. The hotel was wonderful and the staff was great! I am not sure why some reviews are not wonderful. We found the hotel to be efficient. There are few things they could improve on. We had a hard time trying to figure out what the hotel had to offer: show times, kids programs, how to snorkel or do the other 'included' activities and so forth. If they had a schedule, it would help, if they hand it out. The food was good, but we are not picky high-end eaters. We enjoyed the variety on the buffet, but did go to the sit down options in the evenings just to taste the different styles they had to offer. That service was not the best, a bit slow, but we assumed, that is because of the cut back on staff from the swine flu scare, which did seem to damage the tourism. Grand Sunset has two sides and the other side was not even open while we were there. Overall we had a great time. The pool was clean and not crowded, we always found a chair in the shade and the swim up bar staff was very friendly and served quickly. We are hoping to go back again next summer and take our whole family. I would recommend this hotel."

Rob Barrett from Woodhaven, Michigan had this to say:
"We stayed June 17 thru 24, 2009. I do not know where to begin to explain how beautiful this resort is. The service was awesome, rooms were beautiful, food was great, and shows were fantastic! This place is a five star hotel without a doubt. We are going back. I hope that this review will help someone like me who was desperately looking for a great vacation! My wife and I have been to Punta Cana, Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Playa del Carmen. Last year we stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun and loved it. This place is just as nice, maybe better, but half the cost. You will not be disappointed!"

JMO from Denver, CO had this to say:
"We went to the Grand Sunset Princess to celebrate my birthday. We were a little scared about what the resort would really look like when arrived at the resort entrance (Marquis and entrance sign were being replaced). However, once we got to the hotel we were pleasantly surprised. The resort was beautiful, and the room was even nicer than the pictures. The staff was very helpful and always willing to assist you. The pick of restaurants was nice, but we preferred going to the Buffet where you always had a big selection of foods to choose from.''The resort was very large, which helps keep off the pounds from eating and drinking. Sure you can wait for the shuttle, but why miss all the landscaping and resort amenities - walking around was great. The ocean was just a short walk from our room and very pretty.''We would definitely recommend this resort to our friends.'"

Lori from Spring, TX had this to say:
"This is a beautiful very clean ENORMOUS resort. Beach was very nice The spa was excellent. The gym was very nice too. Lots of pools to either gather with the crowd and be social or find a spot to be alone. Was disappointed that the bars closed at 6pm everyday, except the bar in the lobby which was a hike but... The food on the buffet was not good at all! Took a cab into Playa del Carmone one night b/c we were SOOOO Hungry. We didn't realize the strict dress code required for the restaurants so we didn't/couldn't eat there at all, plus reservations are required at least 24 hrs in advance. I don't like to plan that much when on vacation. There was only one choice of a restaurant each night. Maybe if/when there are more guest you can have a choice? Nightly entertainment was really only entertaining for kids otherwise it was a really bad lip sync show. Staff was very helpful and friendly to us. They were a little slow."

lori d from new port richey, florida had this to say:
"At you first step into the beautiful lobby the warm breezes entice you. The check-in didn't go well. We had to lug our bags to our room which was clear on the opposite of the resort. Boy, did we get some funny looks, no one told us where to leave our luggage (7 of us) so off we went. Once in the suite, it was beautiful, very spa-like and spacious. Overall, the resort is worth going back to but this time we know what to look for. No one gave us a schedule of the shows, or what restaurants were open. Only half of the resort was occupied so that led to some confusion as to where the meals were big served. We made reservations for the Italian rest. (Mamma Mia) and the staff there was not very nice. We all (7 of us) ordered at the same time. Half our meals came, then when we were almost finished, the others came, but my son's pizza NEVER did come. The Mexican restaurant was MUCH better and the nightly buffet was different every night and had some of the best food. The staff around the resort was friendly. We stayed Mon-Sat, next time maybe 7 days will be just right. Overall I would give this resort a 4 out of 5 because of the beauty, the closeness to the beach, the food and the cleanliness. We will definitely be going back as a family again."

Thomas's from Hermiston, Oregon had this to say:
"We stayed in this resort March 2008. Its grand opening was the previous December. We did hesitate to book from reading the reviews but are very glad we took the chance. We have vacationed on all the islands of Hawaii, in the Caribbean, and in other locations in Mexico. This vacation far exceeded our expectations. The food was excellent, the staff were so friendly. It is a huge complex and we had trouble finding our room, so one of the gardeners escorted us right to our door. Don't miss the semi-private tour to Tulum with a stop for snorkeling and lunch included! Yes, there are mosquitoes, but what do you expect in a tropical region? The staff came immediately to spray our room the first night, no problems after that. The swim-up junior suite was perfection. We walked down to the beach one time our entire stay and spent the rest of the time in the expansive saltwalter pool. The best vacation ever. We'll be back!"

A Recent Traveler from St. Louis, Missouri had this to say:
"I recently returned from my stay at the resort, I thought since there was a low occupancy it was somewhat nice, because my fifteen friends and I could do whatever we wanted. We stayed in the platinum room where our sheets were always dirty and had to call a maid, the room smelled awful at times, and it always seemed like someone was coming in your room while you were there. The food was awful, never warm and mostly very bland, very American-ized when we wanted authentic Mexican food. The place is very beautiful and the staff was very friendly probably because I can speak Spanish pretty well... I hope the food gets better and even some of the drinks very boring, always want something exciting when you go to the beach, but it seemed like just your normal but with pools and an ocean."

kathy k from pittsburgh, pa had this to say:
"I can not give this resort enough praise! It was a wonderful 5 days in paradise. The food was great, buffets beautifully displayed, nice combo of American food and Mexican food. The entire resort was spotless. The staff was very helpful and always trying to please you. I also liked the availability to schedule excursions right in the lobby area through best day travel representative on site. I made all arrangements so that all I had to do was show up in the lobby and wait for the van at the scheduled time. The resort was not very crowded due to the swine flu scare or the economy. All we came back with was a mild sunburn. If you are contemplating a trip, I highly recommend this resort. Can't wait to go back.. "

Tonya from Portland , Oregon had this to say:
"The resort is absolutely beautiful and the service was great. There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our stay. The only problem was since the resort was about 1/3 capacity there was only one a la carte restaurant open daily, along with the buffet and several of the bars were closed One of the reasons we chose this resort over a lower priced resort was the variety of restaurants and bars available. "

Kelly and Chris from Riverview, FL had this to say:
"This hotel resort is beautiful and people are friendly. The only downfall is the FOOD. All the restaurants are horrible. We had to leave on 2 occasions just because the entry was non edible. We ended up eating in the buffet immediately after making dinner reservations. The poolside service was a little slow. If the restaurants would get some real chefs cooking it would be so worth it. Sad to say we were highly disappointed with the food."

Travis from Greenville, SC had this to say:
"DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This resort was so amazing! From the time we pulled up, to the time we left, it was just everything we could have asked for and more! The drinks were great, the food was good and the service was nothing less than a 5 star resort should be. We only had one bad experience, and that was QUICKLY handled. The grounds were manicured to perfection all day long, the pools were cleaned every morning by hand, and the staff was so unbelievably nice. 'The people who gave bad reviews should have stayed at home, and do not know what an all-inclusive vacation is! We are definitely going back!!!! The rooms were so beautifully designed, beautiful amenities, and there were monkeys in the jungle outside the room a couple of mornings. You definitely have to visit this property! "

"Beautiful resort, excellent food and if staff is little slow for some, so what? its Mexico, it's supposed to be relaxed. I'm sure that all the people that complain about food and accommodation, at home they don't even have it close and probably eat crappy McDonald and fast food most of the week, on the run and don't complain about it. Especially when you consider that we stayed for $79/day/person, all inclusive! (We probably drank that much in alcohol alone.)"

"We went here on a short 4 day stay post surgery. The resort was absoutely beautiful and relaxing. The restaurants which requires reservations, were horrible. The food was bland and tasted old. We ended up eating at the buffet breakfast, lunch and post dinner. We ended up walking out mid service from 2 restaurants. The pools were nice and clean, the people were friendly. The spa was very relaxing as well. If it wasnt for the food, this place would have been exceptional. Need better cooks and staff at the restaurants."

"This place was beautiful and huge. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was ok, what can you expect from an all inclusive? There's jetskiing available down on the beach for much cheaper than booking it through the people in the front, and the shuttle to 5th Ave where all the shops and restaurants are at is free. Overall I really enjoyed myself, and the upgrade to the platinum room was definetly worth it!"

"I just returned from my alone time at the grand sunset princess. I was a little apprehensive at first because i was traveling by myself without my family and all the talk about security in Mexico but....I never felt safer! I felt welcomed from the moment I got there and very safe. The Grand Sunset Princess is beautiful. The staff went out of their way to make you feel at home and they were very friendly. The room was beautiful and very spacious. I loved the fact that a waitress would come around and take drink orders whether you are at the beach or poolside. I have been to other all-inclusive resorts and at this resort you don't have to fight over chairs at the pool or the beach...plenty of chairs. If you are looking for a resort with awesome food this won't be your place except for the homemade gaucamole and large prawns. You can go to the other restaurants and pay a la carte but to be perfectly honest I was there to relax and not there to eat gourmet foods. The beach is awesome but bring some water shoes because there is a lot of coral when you go into and out out the water. I wish I could have stayed longer!! Bring a hat and a good sunscreen and enjoy yourself at the Grand Sunset Princess!!!!"

Clara from Cleveland, Ohio had this to say:
"This place is beautiful. We stayed at this resort along with 2 other couples. Upon our arrival prior to noon, our rooms were ready. Once we arrived in our rooms, we called the front desk to upgrade our rooms to the Deluxe Junior Suite Pools. The front desk quoted one price on the phone and then increased it by the time we went to pay. All the poolside bars, pools and beach close at 6:00. Even if you stay in a room with a pool, there is no swimming allowed after 6:00. If you want to have additional drinks, you can go to the sports bar or the outside bar that is located between the 2 buffets towards the front of the resort. You only get 2 beers in your fridge daily. They provide drinks in small cups or glasses. So, bring big mugs from home. The staff is very courteous, but please beware, this resort does have thieves. There was something taken from the rooms of 2 of the other couples. "

"The resort itself is beautiful... The staff 'not so much' My teenage girls were so harrassed by the entertainment staff, we chose to leave the hotel. My experience may have been very different had it just been my husband and myself. Our girls were 16 and 18, both very shapely and pretty but no excuse. It made us so uncomfortable, with no help from the management. Thanks to bookit.com...we were able to get into another resort and get a refund for unused nights. Also, parents beware..Many topless sunbathers, which made our teenagers uncomfortable."

Robert and Kimberly from newberg, OR had this to say:
"It was our first time in an all-inclusive resort and we were very pleased. Our room we would live in if we could. Beautifully decorated. It was the laguna villa suite. Room service was good, sometimes took a while but then again it is a big resort. Love having a private pool for only the villa rooms. The pool was my favorite area to be. What more could you ask for, food, drinks, great people, wonderful weather, and a nice place to soak it all in. Enjoyed the 5 restuarants we ate at. The buffets were okay, nothing special. But overall would go back again. The one thing I would of changed would be the transfer transportation. What a waste of time and money.....Would only do it if you want to spent your precious travel time sitting and waiting for your transportation to arrive then go to many other resorts to drop off the other people to their resorts."

J. Belanger from Papineauville, Canada had this to say:
"I have only good words to say about this resort. I had booked the Platinum suite, which was absolutely perfect. Gorgeous, spacious, romantic. From the champagne and the private area at the check in to the private pool and designated area on the beach, we were treated like Royalty. The private concierge and bar was phenomenal. We paid a little extra for the platinum but well worth it. The buffet was average. We also had some extra gifts as described under the Platinum suite amenities. The room was stocked everyday to its maximum and the bed turned down every night. I will not recommend to go to Coco Bongo with the animation staff as we almost missed the show. Just go on your own... Don't forget to book your 7 dinners a la carte right after you check in...time flies and they do not accept reservation after 3 pm. even if the restaurant is empty."

A Recent Traveler from Portland, OR had this to say:
"Okay first i'll start with the few good things..... the grounds were beautiful! The pools and beach is great. The platinum rooms are nice and spacious but they all had two double beds. Now for the bad.... First off when checking in, the guy at the front desk was extremely rude, they need to spend some money on customer service training. When you get there they dont give you a list of any activities that goes on so you have no idea about anything that takes place. We also got no map so anytime that we wanted to go anywhere we had to ask where it was. We also had money come up missing out of our room. It was in my purse zipped up, it wasn't a large amount but, it disappeared after the maids cleaned. So if you have any money or anything worth value make sure that you put it in the safe. The food for the most part was awful.... the buffets were not good at all unless you want to eat fruit. Also they have a platinum dinner once a week that they invite you to and it is the same as eating at the buffet.... they serve jalepeno poppers and pizza. The only good thing that I ate from the resort was the fruit and at the Japanese restaurant. And also at the buffets everytime i would go to get food i would end up picking up five plates before i found a clean one.... so they also need a new dishwasher. And don't expect to be able to eat when you want to eat because the buffets and restaurants are only open certain hours and the only thing to eat is a hamburger and nachos from the 'sports bar'. I'm not a very picky person but I would never recommend this place to anyone. If you are looking for great service you will not find it here. This place is not a 4 star... it only deserves 1 star."

Lura from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania had this to say:
"The resort is beautiful and very safe; quite a walk between the restaurants/main lobby and the beach /pools. We arrived at 10am, but unfortunately they have check in at 3pm, so we wondered around the resort for 5 hrs b4 got to our room. we got our bracelets right away so we could eat and drink w/o problem but couldnt do much else in that time. I suggest u arrive to hotel around check in time cuz it would be a nuisance otherwise. The environment is awesome and very relaxing. Everyone is very friendly and staff helped us w any questions we needed answered. Sure it helps to speak the language but where isn't that a plus? The breakfast and lunch buffets were good for the most part, with a lot of choices. U have to make reservations for dinner at the restaurants, which is easy to do, and can do so for all the nights u plan to eat there at once. They are all in one spot so it's really easy to find them also. The food was good, except The International one. Would recommend skipping that. There r also dinner buffets, which are open til 11pm. The sports bar is not worth a zip. Don't bother going in; pretend is not there if u're wondering for food. Night life is not happening here, but for those that want clubbing, the place offers shuttles to CocoBongo, the biggest show-club in Cancun center city where it's buzzing with people. $50.00 USD for ride roundtrip and open bar in the club is not bad. Bad thing is that is 40 min away from resort. :(. If u want to go to different clubs, cabs are available right outside the resort, u can ask the front desk for one. Clubs don't close until 4am or so. Clubs or resort, the cocktails werent that great; weak bc they don't want people to get dehydrated. Drink lots of water, cuz booze and sun are never a good combo. Ask for special local concoctions. Our deluxe Junior suite w/ pool was amazing, trust me when i say it's worth it; very spacious, with jacuzzi, shower, and a safe in the room for your valuables. On the balcony, u have your own 2 lounge chairs and a table and 2 reg chairs. They provide u w beach towels, which u can change every day, if u want, free of charge. The fridge had soft drinks and water replenished daily; the pools were great, the view even better, esp at night time. There's a desk where u can sign up for tours and day trips. My boyfriend and I purchased the Catamaran trip, $92.00/person, best time ever. We had ride roundtrip to marina, open-bar on the sail-boat, snorkeling equip, lunch on the island we stopped and parasailing, all included. They offer many other trips which were great, although if u want to do all, it might get a bit pricey. the town of playa del carmen is only 10 min away and is great for souvenir shopping and dining if the resort food is too common for u. We had a blast and would definitely return for longer stays. Enjoy cuz this is an awesome place to relax."

Zach from Hartford, CT had this to say:
"This was the second Princess Resort I have stayed at. I was very happy with the first (Caribe Club Princess in the DR). However, Grand Sunset Princess was a big step above. The food, the restaurants, the selection and the amenities were all first class. I could not have been happier. I didn't have an issue with the whole digestive system thing in Mexico either. I would recommend this resort to anyone. I wish I was still there. My only complaint had nothing to do with the resort. There was a lot of coral in the water, which made things a little uncomfortable while on the beach. Also, be warned that the total time round trip on the bus from Chitza Nitza is 4-5 hours. "
