"Nice place but be warned, the drinks and beers are severely watered down!! This is the first of my many all-inclusive stays where not one single person was buzzed never mind drunk. I'm not saying that one has to be inebriated in order to have a good time on vacation/but I sure would like to have the option. I had to pick up a bottle of rum from a nearby mall after my girlfriend (who rarely drinks) felt that a glass of milk would contain more alcohol then her Pina Colada did. The resort is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. The food was a little less than average but I expected that because of the low all-inclusive price tag. The pool activities and shows are well thought out and added to the charm of this beautiful alcohol-free resort."

"My husband and I took our two teenagers here for a weeks stay. We must have picked the right time because we did not have the annoyance of 'spring breakers' even though we were there the first week of April!

The hotel was nice and clean, food was good and staff were friendly. We received everything we expected i.e. ocean front room with a balcony, unlimited drinks and food! I suppose there are nicer hotels in the area, however for the price we paid...I think it was a pretty good deal.

We were able to do a few excursions and tours and loved it. We will be back to Cancun soon as we felt very safe and well looked after."

"Avoid the Barcelo Tucancun, there are much nicer hotels for the money. I will not be staying at a Barcelo again in the future.

I stayed at the Barcelo last week with 5 friends. We had booked two rooms. When we arrived we were told we could not have rooms near each other, which seemed strange given this had been requested and we had booked nearly 4 months in advance. But the front desk told us our rooms were in the same tower so we went with it. But this turned out to be a blatant lie as we had to take two different elevators from different parts of the resort to reach our rooms. The next day when I asked to change one of the rooms they informed me it would be a 150$ fee.

The room itself was fine, but quite outdated and worn. It also wasnt clean when we showed up, they had obviously done a very speedy once over from the prior group. There was long black hair all over the bathroom and the floor. It felt dirty. After the first day I thought the maid service did a nice job cleaning and tidying and making the beds.

The food is fine, its edible but nothing to write home about. There is one main buffet that's open breakfast lunch dinner which is probably the best but they serve the same food day in and day out so it gets a little old. Theres one restaurant that requires you to make reservations, which is actually good, but you have to make a reservation early in the morning as they only seat about 5-6 groups every hour or so. The other two buffets are lack luster and something is supposed to be open 24 hours but that was never the case. The drinks were as to be expected at an all inclusive resort - sugary drink mixes and low quality alcohol. I was a little wary to see that the platic cups used at the bars were washed by being dunked into a sanitary solution with a quick brush and then rinsed in clean water - not so sanitary in my opinion.

The outdoor areas were nice with three pools to choose from - one very quiet with a neat swim up bar, one medium quiet with an infinity pool that looked out onto the ocean and another bar off to the side, and the last pool the party pool with music, lounge chairs in the pool, and another bar. The beach is also RIGHT there which was nice and it was beauitful, clean, and lots of chairs provided.

Most of the staff at the hotel were quite friendly and nice, some were downright rude like the hostess at the main buffet who literally closed the door in my face several times while I was waiting to be seated. I understand at places like this that they have to have some rules and fees when you lose things - like beach towels, room keys, and so forth - they see a lot of spring breakers this time of year - but i was very turned off by all of the stipulations and learning what was and wasnt included and how much it would cost me to do this that and the other. They were also really stingy with the water which was strange to me. They provided new bottles in your room each day, but its hot in mexico and we were drinking a lot of water and the hotel front desk would sometimes supply you with some but other times lie and say they were all out of water. And i would see someone from another party go up and receive another bottle so i knew they were lying again.

Also disappointing was the hotels refusal to validate the Black Friday special promotion we were promised. We were told we had 200$ per room to spend on spa services, dinner, and a few other things, but when we checked into the hotel they handed me a coupon booklet offering a few dollars off on things like internet, spa services, and so forth. A coupon booklet that still requires me to spend money is very different from 200$ is services.

Overall I would recommend you look elsewhere, I've stayed at nicer resorts for the same price range.

"We stayed 4 nights. Me, my wife and son. We get there and are room is not available which was suppose to be the 2 room villa. Instead they gave up two separate rooms side by side ocean front view but we had nothing in th rooms that comes with the Villa. The Hotel staff was not helpful. The first day was horrible and half of the third day. The Beach was wonderful and the island was very safe. We were worried about the Cartels but the government has a tight hold on the Cancun island at night time you had Police every where and made us feel real safe. We were told by some of the Locals that the Police is real good to the tourist."

"I have vacated in Mexico for the last 10 years. This is the first time I have been so let down.
You can see by my ratings what I think of the Hotel. Cheap food and drink, the so called entertainment consisted of blasting cheap noise at ever chance. In one bar there was a man with a recording and a Saxophone I have seen better in the streets of any city. The so called DJ at the main pool just blasted every octave he could for the drunken kids around the pool. The room was only cleaned correctly when we went and looked for the cleaners ourselves. Example I cut my foot in one pool and it leaked blood on the bed spread which I asked to be replaced, it took two days. The first aid person was the only good person that works there.
I have stayed at the Barceló Rivera Maya, and that was a really nice place. So, it goes to show how you can lose your good name so easily. This Hotel is not for anyone older than 19 and is not a drunken lout.
Do not go there and please do not for pity sake allow your children to experience this hell hole. If you enjoy noise from drunken louts all night up to 4:30am then go, but if not do not frequent this expensive hovel!
