It saddens me to write a critical review, when so much love went into creating the Penaga. And there is still a lot to like ‚?? the mix of antique furniture and contemporary art in our room, the comfortable bed and bedding, the fast wi-fi, the hot shower, the view over the garden from our balcony. But the love that once was there seems to have disappeared. The first inkling we had was when we checked in for our 5 nights in a Hutton Room. On reaching the reception desk, the greeting was a singl... Read more

Lovely hotel. Rooms are clean and bed was very comfortable. An excellent boutique hotel that maintains the charms and architecture style of old Georgetown. Their small pool was absolutely refreshing to escape the heat of Malaysia and drink a few tiger beers. Hotel food was good. I would stay here again if visiting Georgetown.

Stayed from 18 Dec to 20 Dec. First booked Hutton Suites but was given a free upgrade to Transfer Suites! How nice. Smooth check in, room facilities were all in good condition, the surrounding was serene and quiet. We were also given a free transfer to the airport on the day of checking out. Didn't try the buffet as there were plenty food choices nearby, but did had a quick lunch in the Cinnamon Cafe on the day of leaving, food was tasty, fresh and inexpensive. Overall a good experience wi... Read more

Very nice boutique hotel. Chinese decoration in the room, which I found it different and interesting. Rooms were big and comfy. Good price value relation. It has a restaurant and bar, but there are plenty of options near de hotel so we didn't give it a try. A true boutique hotel!!!

We visited Hotel Penaga for the second time, this time with our kids. It's such a beautiful, friendly oasis, our second visit didn't disappoint. We weren't sure it would be as family friendly (it's beautifully decorated and perfect for adults) but we loved it so much the first time (as a couple, two years prior), we thought we'd take a punt. It was as wonderful as we'd remembered. The staff were very accomodating to our family's needs. Whilst not right in the Heritage district it's only a short ... Read more

Chose this hotel after considering all options within the area since It's my first time in Penang after so many years. Stayed here for 2 nights and I've to say that the hotel provided splendid service right from the first day I reached the hotel doorstep till my last day. Moreover, post check-out, the hotel helped me to post some of my clothes which I left behind in the hotel room back to my home address!. Will definitely revisit this hotel again in the future, given the choice.

Booked Hotel Penaga after reading TA reviews, and as usual was not disappointed. Spacious room, excellent air con and in-room wifi with spa bath. In an excellent location - easy walking distance to anywhere in old Georgetown - and although the traffic was sometimes manic, our room was really quiet (and we were directly facing the bike repair shop which another poster mentioned). Lovely helpful reception staff. Did not eat in the restaurant as there is so much choice round and about but menu ... Read more

The hotel is great, very nice style and great design. We stay at Penaga Suite and it was beautiful: two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one with jacuzzi) and tv/reading room. We arrived at Hari Raya in the evening and our welcome was fantastic. The kids loved the pool and the environment at the hotel is nice and relaxed. Breakfast is nice, good to have Milo!!! We just love it. The staff were great, willing to help and serve all the time, and location is great near to main attractions but far from noise... Read more

Old style and "robust" hotel located Old Town in George Town. The area was very noisy because renovation at this area. Rooms are ok but not luxury. The dining room and food: excellent! The location of this hotel is good when you wat to see Street Art nearby. Just normal cosy hotel but not luxury.

A nice respite down Hutton Street, at the intersection with Transfer Street. Rooms were spacious and the bed was firm and very comfortable. Wifi was strong in the room - important for us. A shout out also the the very nice service staff at the front desk who helped us immensely with a booking glitch. Pity they weren't able to accommodate a late check out due to a full booking the next day. In spite of what's been said, the pool was lovely for quick laps to work up an appetite before gorging o...
