It is undeniable that the room has seen better days. However, although the decor is tired, the rooms are huge if a little basic; certainly more like 3 stars than the stated 4. As unremarkable as I make it out to be, this hotel is a gem. Their garden rooms have balconies that are sufficiently private for sunbathing, and are literally at the edge of the beach. Get one of the upper floors and while lying down on the bed, your view will be of the ocean meeting the sky. If you keep the curtains open,... Read more

It is quite an old hotel, however the interior is acceptable. The place is ideal for the family as it is not that too close to Feringgi which is too noisy and lots of night activitie such as pubs and night market.

At the outset, I was caught by surprise at how far from town (Georgetown) this hotel is - it's typically 45 minutes by bus. However this does have some advantages - it's quiet, it's close to Batu Ferringhi, and that same bus which runs just outside the gate will take you to Penang National Park as well as quite a few other attractions. To be sure the hotel has been around a while, and some of the furniture is a bit old. So what? I had a very comfortable sleep, and true to the hotel's claim e... Read more

I had to travel to Penang for a short event near Batu Feringghi, Since it is the first day of school holidays in Malaysia, most hotels are either fully booked or become more expensive. Checked into the hotel at about 9.30 p.m and since room was pre-booked, checking in was a breeze. I find the room neat but a bit old fashioned. I travelled with my spouse and expected a double bed but was instead given two single beds. It is beyond me why the reception desk did not even ask about my bed prefere... Read more

May and June are the winter rainy season in Penang. However the Copthorne Orchid still sees many visitors, mostly at weekends. Midweek it is reasonably quiet, except for the school holidays. One thing which determines a hotels star rating is the variety, quality of its food and restaurants. In the quiet season there really is only one restaurant open the Terrace Bay. There is another offering but it only opens on a Sunday lunch basis. So let's examine the menu offered at the 24 hour terrace ba... Read more

I would say the hotel is dwelling betweem 3 stars and 2 stars level. The room condition is still ok but the furniture are extremely old. A bit disappointing is the pricing. Looking at the room condition, I would expect the room rate to be something like RM125 to RM150 max. But the price I paid was higher than this. Therefore, it's not worth unless you have no choice as most hotels are fully booked.

The hotel is by the beach, it has a beautiful view but the sea is not clear; so we went to the pool. It's far from the centre ( 20 minutes by car). The room has old furniture and it isn't refined. The moquette was not very clean. The breakfast was good.

This hotel is the best hotel we stayed in our Malaysia tour. A very nice well maintained property located at a prime location overlooking the sea. The staff is courteous, the rooms are nice and spacious, an attached balcony with a nice view of the sea. The property is very well maintained. Overall it's a wonderful place to stay.

I checked in the hotel, was not very sure what would be my experience after reading others' reviews. Eventually it turned out to be a great one. I got myself a deluxe room on the 6th floor at the terrace with a perfect view to the sea and the beach. The room was spacious, bright and clean, despite the furniture is a bit tired. The beach is nothing to shout about, but I am very satisfied as I wanted a beach which is quite, not too crowded and this place just met these criteria. What I enjoy most ... Read more

Anthony Malchiorri of 'Hotel Impossible' would have a fit with the decor, furniture and cleanliness of this hotel. The furniture looks old and tired and the bathroom isn't too spic and span either. The wi fi is also painfully slow. The air conditioning is centrally controlled so cold guests cannot turn up the temperature as they please. The fitness centre has three machines, one of which is broken. The great thing about this hotel is firstly, its friendly and courteous staff. The beach is nic... Read more

The hotel is in a great location and easily accessible by bus but one can also explore by foot the different foodstops around the area. The staff were great although we the room we got wasn't the best from what I heard from our other friends. Different issues for the first couple of days like clogged sink and bathtub, and lack of amenities but they were quick to respond when we did call their attention :-) I would go back :-)

Penang is divided in three section as for my experience. the town, the country side, and the middle. Copthrone in the middle. there is nothing much in there except the beach. the hotel is good as it is a resort with average price. So you can enjoy an okay stay with a private beach. Room: Okay. quiet, reasonable clean. the bathroom has some hair on the floor. the room is very very old but everything is working. First impression of the place was that it looked a little old. Had the feel of the late 80s or early 90s, I think. Design aside, the place was comfortable and welcoming. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Had a bit of a laugh to see some old-school arcade machines at the entertainment section, but it's pretty decent as they were all fully functional. The shower head was weak. The shower tap mechanism was faulty and required extra care to avoid too hot water and anyway only a weak stream came out. The b'fast fare was mediocre, bland and unappetizing. It doesn't take much to have an average cook whip up some excellent eggs, roti canai etc. Only the croissants and Danish pastry were OK. We stayed here for one night only and the hotel were able to give us interconnecting rooms as requested. Our room was a great size but looked a little dated.
