Stayed here for 2 nights and don't have one thing bad to say about the place. It's like taking a step back into time. There are so many intricate details to explore if you're a history and heritage buff. Definitely recommend joining the tour so you can fully appreciate the history and the restoration. A must see and a must stay in Penang.

The Blue Mansion is named after its former owner, Cheong Fatt Tze who was a wealthy Chinese tycoon from China in the 19th century. He built this magnificent mansion for his eight wives and family. The house is beautifully designed in traditional Chinese style based on Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese environmental science of design and geomancy. It is spacious and ornately decorated with intricate carvings and fine pottery mosaic friezes. It is worth joining the house tour to learn the history of ... Read more

We had a lovely stay at The Blue Mansion. The history of the Blue Mansion was what attracted us to making our choice to stay there. Our room was huge, the bed was comfortable and the amenities were clean. We enjoyed the meals we ate in the restaurant and enjoyed the complimentary Blue Mansion Tour. The staff were very helpful and obliging. The overall ambience was awesome.

This was the highlight of our trip to Penang. The mansion is beautiful and transports you effectively back in time. The tours (especially the one run by the owner) is fantastic. The location is good too and it's easy to get around. Staff are smiling and helpful. Would love to stay here again and explore other rooms in this majestic property.

Located in a great courtyard, with beautiful plants and furniture. The menu is pretty poor, just 10 dishes between entrees and mains. The food is typical malaysian. It's worth a visit, not sure about the meal. Service was good and the prices very low.

We booked way in advance through agoda and got a decent price. The place is BEAUTIFUL and we love it. decided on extending another day but it is all full. Service was so good and they are very thoughtful. There is guided tour free for resident. The breakfast is sumptuous. If you have an opportunity, visit there, or stay there. It was our comfiest night.

I always make it a point to stay at The Blue Mansion whenever I am in Penang. Besides it's convenient location to some pretty awesome coffee shops (Joo Hooi for cendol, asam laksa, and char kuay teow / Sin Kheng Aun for traditional Hakka dishes), I look forward to be surrounded and living amongst a building that is quite literally, living history. Service of the mansion is impeccable and the staff at the Blue Mansion take great pride and care in ensuring a relaxing stay. I stayed on the righ... Read more

Cheong Fatt Tze was a rich Chinese merchant and this is the mansion he built for his seventh wife. The central part of the hotel is like a museum and has three guided tours each day, free for guests of the hotel. The rooms of the hotel are in the wings of the mansion. We stayed in a standard room and it was beautifully decorated. The staff are attentive and the breakfast included was varied and tasty. The location of the hotel is also very convenient to explore the sights of Georgetown, most of... Read more

What a fabulous place and great conversation piece to say that you have stayed there. Our bedroom was fab and we received a lovely welcome upon arrival. Of course there are a few quirky things to overlook as it is a renovation of an amazing old mansion but nothing that isn't worth it. The only downside for us was the breakfast experience; very poor and needs a massive improvement if they want to keep guests coming back. I still give it a five though as again it's a fabulous place. From the indigo blue walls, the magnificent building, stained glass, tiles, iron lace work, spiral staircase, the courtyards, crimson lanterns and superb renovation, just to enter the Blue Mansion takes your breath away. The room I stayed in was like a room in a palace with an intricately carved wall sized screen behind the bed, crimson, black and gold. I loved all the staff and was treated with such kindness and care. Sweets would be delivered nightly with a handwritten message on a frangipani... Read more

This tour was about 45 mins. You basically look around the main courtyard of the mansion and the upstairs and get lots of interesting facts about the family who owned it and what it is now. Some interesting artifacts and info are displayed as well. You get a glimpse into what a mayalsia mansion looks like and how they acquired and maintained it years ago.

Very impressive heritage architecture that takes you back in time. Has an interesting history. Nice backdrop for a photoshoot. We had western food ( I guess because it was a conference) and it was just mediocre. Nothing to shout about. Food rating is simply average .... It is the architecture and ambiance that gets the very good ranking.

Pat was our tour guide. Very funny, makes the tour interesting. I'm not into heritage and the likes but I found the tour interesting! Our guide went onto explain out the past owner GFT and how he became so successful. Worth 45mins of your time. At worse you will get to see a nice old building!

Firstly, I come to Penang often for business and leisure, and I've stayed in a number of Penang's converted heritage/boutique hotels so I'm comparing my stay with other stays in similar hotels in Penang. I think this place was one of the original converted heritage houses in Penang, but it is being given a run for its money by a number of other houses which have been converted. As this place is a museum+hotel, it has an interesting vibe to it. The place is full of history and signs indicating ... Read more

This place is poetry in the form of architecture. It's a beautiful mansion. An old Chinese mansion turned into a B&B with the best decor, comfort and service. The staff is incredibly friendly. The location is perfect as well. You can just walk to all the key places in Georgetown. It is also surrounded by nice restaurants and eating options. The mansion also provides daily heritage tours which are worth taking. It's worth every single penny! We had a really good time here. There'd be some days ... Read more

With such spacious grounds, comfortable room and friendly staff, my daughter and I will definitely return to stay on our next visit to the island. I found Cheong Fatt Tze while researching Penang online. The opportunity to stay at such a historic place is uncommon, so I immediately booked our stay. The staff were extraordinarily helpful, providing all necessary accommodations and taking extra care to ensure our stay was pleasant. The provided breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant of note. In fact, it was the best dinner we had throughout our two weeks in Malaysia. We would definitely go back!

It's a really beautiful hotel in a historic building, the room was amazing, ths staff is nice, the breakfast is a really good buffet. It was a really good value for the price. Perfect.

We stayed here with our parents, who had usually stayed at E&O. I was nervous that the rooms wouldn't be comfortable for them, but instead, we all found the accommodation to be clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Beyond that, the Blue Mansion itself is a historic monument worth wandering around. It was amazing to stay in the midst of such history with all the modern comforts and minimalistic design that we prefer. We'll definitely book here again.

This is an amazing building and is actually a living museum, where tours are conducted three times daily explaining the history of the owner and the building. We had our room next to the Red Garden night food area, and it could get quite noisy up till 1230 am, with live bands performing nightly. The room itself was large with lovely high ceilings. The king sized bed was comfy, though the aircon was not cold even when it was set to 18 deg. We had to run the ceiling fan nightly, though there s... Read more

More than 30 tourists crowded around a guide whose job was to talk, not to make sure she was heard. We couldn't hear the explanations, so the place lost interest, and the Mansion is quite small, the "museum" part involves only some posterboards and some contemporary objects without much value and the hotel area, quite beautiful, is out of bounds. We felt it was a rip-off and a waste of time. Maybe with a smaller group? Or maybe not at all.

Romantic, atmospheric, attentive and in spite of the visitors not intrusive, comfortable and clean. Only downside is slightly noisy aircon in the rooms.

We stayed at the Blue Mansion for 3 nights/4 days. It is stunning and a truly different experience from other hotels. The original house has been restored with great care and thought and the hotel offers modern facilities within the old house. It is good location for seeing Georgetown. The hotel staff are very attentive and Poh, the Assistant Manager, really is caring and gives a brilliant customer experience, even getting us tickets for Georgetown Festival. My Penang friend recommended me this mansion as it is considered one of the most interesting heritage places well restored and preserved. We arrived on 17Aug morning 11.10am but unfortunately were denied access as the session has already started. The guard told us that there are only 3 sessions available ie 11.00am, 2.00pm and 3.30pm for weekdays and only English speaking guide available. So no choice we left and came back for the 2.00pm session. When we returned, there were already close to ... Read more

Whatever you do, don't miss the Blue Mansion. Dating from the latter part of the 19th century, this mansion combines extreme solidity and great elegance. Renovated in the last 30 years, it retains all of its original form. Not the least attraction was the truly wonderful tour guide, an English speaking Chinese lady with an impish sense of humour,a performer's art of anecdote and drama, and a historical breadth. Our Penang experience would have been incomplete if we did not choose this beautiful mansion. Such significant historical architecture, restored to its former glory and we had the privilege to fully appreciate its beauty. We stayed in one of the Liang rooms, "Escoy" which in my opinion is the best room (very private and quiet), friendly hotel staff to assist us throughout our stay and perfect location with most attractions within walking distance in Georgetown.
