Traveled over new years so was limited in affordable options in Tokyo. Oak was ok, but the rooms are very small (even for Tokyo standards) and the bathroom, well think of a bathroom on a plane and it is not much bigger. Hotel is not new, so facilities are a bit dated. We were allocated ground floor rooms which made our stay a bit noisy as there are 2 lounge areas downstairs and reception that generate noise. Position is good, close to JR Ueno and Skyliner and even closer subway (but only stairs ... Read more

Location is good near subway and JR station. We also liked to take a walk to ueno park in the morning (15 min) rooms are small but that's Tokyo. It was all clean and the staff was nice. There is a small kitchen and you can use the dryer and washingmachine

Stayed in this hostel because of the good reviews. However I was disappointed when I checked into a room that has awesome smell. The are some noise due to the aircon or heater in the middle of the night that continues throughout. Never mind about the small dormitory room and bathroom, but the staff should do something about the hygiene and the noise. However, like the rest of the reviewers agreed, the staff were really friendly and nice! Oh by the way, their bicycle rental is cheap. 300 ye... Read more

Basic needs for my stay. Room is cheap (sgd53 from agoda) Theres a deposit of 1000¥ for the card to access your room which will be returned once you check out. Room equipped with toiletries, towels, japanese tea, kettle , tv (CNN channel only but seriously, who watches tv when you are on a holiday right?) Bed and pillow was a little bid on the hard side. But for the price i paid, this is the best bargain. There' s a kitchen with microwave, toaster & washing machine. Living area with simple couc... Read more

Location is excellent: short walk from major train terminals including the terminus of the airport express. About 10 minute walk from Ueno Park with its several museums including the excellent Tokyo National Museum. Staff provided a detailed explanation with about 2 dozen photos showing how to get to hotel from train station. Room was clean, comfortable, with aircon, refrigerator, computer & wifi, and hot shower. It was quite small, but anything any larger would also be considerably more expensi... Read more

I Stayed at the Oak hotel for just one night and I really liked it. The vibe of the place is great: casual, no-frills and yet enticing: the staff is gentle and attentive. Location wise is strategically positioned: a stonethrow from Inaricho station, in a quiet residential area but at walking distance from Ueno Park and Ameyoko market on one seide (even Akihabara if you feel like stretching it) and the Senso-ji temple in Asakusa and its bustling area on the other (and close enough to the Tobu rai... Stayed 5 nights in a single room, Japanese style. Everything is clean and relatively well maintained. Location is pretty good too, very close to Ueno station. It's more like a hostel, so very budget friendly. Value for money is good, but as a backpacking traveler my standards are pretty low. This is not for people looking for a relaxing or comfortable hotel.

The room is small and clean , close to restaurants and shopping , only 12 min walk from the JR train station and 5 min from subway . It is a youth Hostel but you get your own room and bathroom . Stayed with my son in 1 large bed Japanese style ( queen size ) but it was only $75 a night not bad if you are looking for a place to crash in Tokyo for the night or 2. It looks all the youth travelers like it

Room very small but very clean and absolutely adequate for a few nights stay. Food dispensers are available & laundry, but we found it always busy. Very close to metro and a good but very nice walk to the various sights nearby. We found it a great place from which to set off in a morning on a long walk to other districts. Tokyo is relatively flat so it was easy to do. Locally there are many small traditional restaurants and also laundries to get washing done. Very cheap also. Staff were kind, h... Read more

Great start to my Japan trip thanks to the staff at Oak, I went with a private room, Japanese style and it was great. The best part of this place though was the front desk staffs area knowledge and ability to help me figure out how to buy some soccer tickets! They went above and beyond, also nice that when you check out you can leave a bag there for a couple hours while you explore the area!

Oak Hostel is a good place to rest your head and get ready for your day exploring Tokyo. The hostel is located a short walk to the Metro and a bit longer walk to Ueno Station. There are plenty of facilities included in your stay here including kitchen, laundry and vending machines. The bed wasn't the most comfortable ever but if you sleep on top of your blanket you will be fine.
