My last stay in Japan was at Tawaraya in Kyoto so I wasn't expecting too much from this Japanese style hotel. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the experience. We stayed in a Japanese room with futons and were half board. The good sized room was beautifully clean and functional and came with a useful foot massager. The meals that were taken in the dining room were delicious and were works of art served in various design creations. The staff were discreet but attentive if you ran int... Read more

Pros:- 1) Superb Location - 5 min walk from the Kintetsu Nara Station which we arrived at from Kyoto. - Higashimuki Shopping Arcade is just next to the Kintetsu Nara Station, and you'll find shops, cafes, restaurants, a supermarket, Daiso, and a big drugstore amongst other things. 2) Wonderful service staff - We checked in on the actual day of my birthday and we got a free room upgrade. They also gave us complimentary alcoholic drinks during dinner at the hotel. That truly made my birthday sp... Read more

Initially we were going to go to Nara for just a day trip from Kyoto but decided to stay overnight instead. I am so glad we did as I feel we really got a true feeling for this lovely city. We arrived via the JR line as we had a 7 day rail pass and this hotel was a quick 5 minute taxi ride from the station. The Kintetsu line is right next door. They are very strict about the 3pm check in time but were more than happy to store our bags until then. On check in we were personally taken to our r... Read more

Lucky to book a room during the Nara Marathon. The hotel is almost right next to the Kintesu station and also the covered shooping street. It's only a short walk to the Nara Park. Breakfast was great, was Japanese set. There was a large outdoor pool in Japanese style. Though water was not real onsen water as the hotel already notified on its website, still great experience. On Marathon day, hotel provide free bananas and hot pads for guests joining the run. Staff were all very helpful and friend... Read more

The care, the cleanliness, the service, the tatamis and the futons, and of course the Toto Washlet toilets would have been pleasure enough. But the way everything was perfectly constructed, the aesthetics of the place, and the interactions with the staff turned our stay into an uplifting experience. The dinners and breakfasts made it truly extraordinary, never to be forgotten. A young woman named Fumi went above and beyond the call of duty to exemplify what it means to serve others with dignity,... Read more

This was simply an amazing service level - was the best I think I have ever experienced at any hotel in the world. As an example we went to a restaurant - at the restaurant we asked for recommendation for dinner the next night - the hotel not only called the restaurant to make sure that our dinner went well found out about the next night reservation restaurant and when we came back, they already had directions etc. Very impressive service - luxury hotel with luxury hotel price but service to be... We spent one expensive, traditional, and lovely night here. We chose a Japanese room and Japanese meals. We were greeted with iced green tea and hot towels. Our room was gigantic (we splurged for an in-room, outdoors, private onsen, so we didn't have to be naked with other people), and had two toilet rooms, a little kitchenette area, a living room with a couch and massage chair, a room for something else (we never figured out what, it just had a mirror. Dressing?), and a dining room/bed room tha... Read more

This is one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had in my travels. The hotel staff were accommodating and attentive without being intrusive. I encourage everyone to experience the traditional Japanese hotel and to partake of the amazing dinner served in room. The food is some of the best I've had. The baths are not to be missed. This was truly an amazing, unforgettable experience.

The hotel is in a most convenient location being just up the hill from the Kintetsu Nara station. (The JR station is a few blocks away.) Our room, 310 was very spacious, and could be called a fusion of Japanese and Western styles, with permanently set up western floor mattresses - two king singles, and two low chairs and coffee table in the sitting area . The bathroom was exemplary and contained a wooden bath which was most comfortable. The view from the room was over roof tops and nearby tree... Read more

Kasuga hotel is just up the road from Kintetsu Nara Railway Station and major bus stop; very close to interesting shops and restaurants; and a short walking distance from Nara Park and National Museum and shrine. Service was excellent and attentive, and traditional breakfasts really beautiful. Our room was very comfortable, with both western shower, and an 'open-air bath' --which was a great hit with the grandchildren. However, it is expensive, and you certainly pay for the location.
