Located directly opposite Kyoto Station this hotel is close to both the central train station and the central bus stop making traveling around Kyoto a breeze. The rooms are large for a Japanese hotel and very comfortable. The only drawback is that you can hear the louder trains from the rooms but you tend not to notice this too much. Would definitely recommend if staying in Kyoto.

Hotel is located just across the street for the main Kyoto station (south/shinkansen entrance) and has two large malls with many good restaurants just around the corner. Due to its location, the area outside is quite busy. The hotel itself is very large and busy. There are a lot of people rushing around on the lobby floor at any time and you might have to stand in line to access the reception. There are three restaurants that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but you're bound to stand in line ... Read more

The hotel is centrally located in Kyoto, just across the street from the huge Kyoto train station. The room is somewhat small but very clean. The beds are very firm, which I found to be a bit uncomfortable. The air conditioning seemed to not work as well as times, especially at night. The room was warm at night, even on the lowest setting. There was one night the smell of cigarette smoke could be smelled coming through the air conditioning, but thankfully it was only for a brief few minutes... Read more

4 nights in May 2016 were spent here, located immediately adjacent to the railway station (but not to be confused with the Westin Miyako Hotel), the room was surprisingly quiet - especially considering the traffic and the elevated railway tracks. Do not try to book in prior to 1400h at which time the queues suddenly grow, but handled with admirable efficiency. Room had two large beds of western length and chairs, tables. Don't expect the TV to be other than in Japanese (I didnt try the rental ch... Read more

This is my first time to New Miyako Hotel. Impressed by the cleaniness of this Hotel. And everyone is so helpful and speaks good English. My twin bedroom is acceptable with more room space to move around for a couple. From here we took a train at Kyoto Station to Kameoka, Arashiyama to take a boat ride on the Horozugawa river ride, lasting 2 hours, then to Bamboo Gardens. A beautiful trip, and return in the evening. In Kyoto station you will find lots of good food. McDonald is also there. But... Read more

Although the hotel is in a good location with many, many department stores and 1000s of restaurants, the rooms are very small. There is no lounge area for you to wait in, if you have an early arrival or late departure, which can be very tiring. Western style breakfast was good. Huge hotels and tiny rooms seem to be a part of Japanese living!

A friend advised us to stay at New Miyako Hotel when visiting Kyoto. It was great advice. Directly opposite the train station and close to the local bus terminus (which is on the opposite side of the station), the hotel is ideally located for getting around Kyoto. Hotel facilities are impressive and our room, on the ninth floor of the main wing, was very spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Whilst it was not a problem for us, we were surprised at the degree of noise transfer from the s... Read more

From the outside the New MIyako Hotel doesnâ??t look like much, but inside the hotel functions as a well managed five-star hotel without the glitz. Although one of the older hotels in Kyoto, my standard room had free wifi, was large with a modern bathroom, and comfortable bed with a choice of hard or soft pillows; an added feature was a humidifier. The carpet was clean, and the room was quiet. The hotel has more than 1000 rooms but guests have a choice of three restaurants for breakfast: western... Read more

Hotel has a feat location next to Kyoto station and a shopping mall next door. Rooms are large and if you are at the front you face the station. Staff were friendly and helpful and there is a specific desk for luggage forwarding which made things very easy. Lots of tour groups use this hotel so breakfast can be busy although there are 3 restaurants to choose from so you can just go to another. Really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay again.

We got a south tower room with a little more space which really helped. The hotel is right across the street from the Kyoto train station which makes it very convenient for bus and train connections. The hotel room was remarkably quiet considering the traffic in the area and the climate control made the temperature and humidity a non factor when in the room. The buffet breakfast was wonderful with lots of choices for both western and Japanese items. Everything tastes great and after the buffet w... Read more

Visited this hotel while under renovations so apart from there being a line for the elevators everything was fine! Very clean and modern rooms. There were three of us and the room is quite cozy (as most Japanese hotel rooms are) and with three suitcases laying flat on the floor it was quite hard to move around. When it's packed up its okay though. Service was amazing. A power adapter was provided for us as we had broken ours and they were very fast with the room service. Staff was so accommod... Read more

Functional hotel. Staff are friendly but we had to wait a half hour to check in. I would normally expect to check in immediately even if the rooms were not available but wait for th room. At check in time this led to long queues and a further long wait to get the room key. Breakfast reminded us of the style of much cheaper hotels. When arriving a half hour before breakfast finishes you are reminded of this fact and 10 minutes before the deadline the staff go around all the tables reminding peopl... Read more

Fortunately we were eventually portered to a very clean and pleasant room, away from main road, though air conditioning hadn't been turned on... I enjoyed my stay. The twin room in the older building was spacious for a Japanese hotel. I booked the breakfast included. I had 3 choices and they were all good. I dined twice at Japanese style restaurant. Then once at western style. Then 3 times at the western & Japanese buffet style. It was my favorite because I could choose both. The New Miyako Hotel had much going for it. The train station was across the road with all its restaurants, bars, convenient stores, gift shops and grocery stores. Accessibility to public transport was easy. The rooms were spacious, baths deep and room service unobtrusive! We had full buffet breakfast every morning as the assortment of Japanese and western food sufficient for anyone's dietary preferences. It is a large hotel with high turnover and it manages this quite well!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights while on our honeymoon. This hotel seems to be geared more towards business and tour groups- it meets just the bare minimum of satisfactory. We had a room on one of the premium floors which was fine in terms of space, but very noisy and sparse. Maybe the rooms in the newer wing are better? The train station next door is great for grabbing some quick food or doing some shopping in the multi level department store.

The New Miyako is located right across the street from the Kyoto Train station making it a great jumping off point for exploring the area. If you want to maximize the time in Kyoto, staying at the New Miyako makes perfect sense. Exactly across from the station, nice ,big , clean rooms, friendly staff and at a reasonable price. Located opposite the train station, it is surrounded by malls with lots of places to shop and dine in within walking distance. Nice room with a cubicle size bathroom and no aircon when we were there in March as the hotel staff told us to open the windows so that cool air can come in and eventually provide the aircon and ventilation we need. Comfortable beds and clean room, but check in is strictly only after 2pm.

Our family just didn't like this hotel. We admittedly had just come from the Tokyo Hilton so we'd been spoiled, but this place just felt sub-par.
